  • World-renowned British street artist Banksy pulled off one of the greatest pranks in the history of the art world. Banksy, whose real identity is unknown, is famous for his mischievous and often satirical outdoor graffiti. Seconds after one of his most iconic works sold close to $1.4 million at a London auction, the painting fell from the frame and started to self-destruct. Elizabeth Palmer reports.

    I think it's brilliant. On the other hand expensive artwork is so scrutinized for authenticity, it's hard to believe they didn't notice the shredding mechanism.

    The Mona Lisa was never considered that great of a painting until it was stolen and returned. In the art world, when everyone is talking about your art, its value sky-rockets. Bansky's prank backfired. Now this piece could end up priceless. It literally could be the next Mona Lisa. For those of you thinking Bansky did this on purpose, you don't know the artist nor his art.

      Seems like banksy or someone on his behalf would have had to be at that auction to push a button at the right moment to turn on the shredder . How else to do this? So the batteries or whatever was powering it had to still working

  • @JB-so5gr
    @JB-so5gr Před 5 lety +22

    Not a prank... It was tactical. The art wasn't completely destroyed, the story around it has vastly increased it's value and now everyone is talking about him... Don't be fooled.
