- Clandestine street artist Banksy opens a theme park like no other. Inside a derelict lido in Weston-super-Mare, Dismaland features migrant boats, a dead princess and Banksy's trademark dark humour.

The piece that creeped me out the most was the glitchy Ariel, and I don't even know why. It's just so eerie and unsettling to me.
I don't understand why she's like that tho
@@Jai05 probably to add onto the distortion of the entire place. Nah, my biggest question is how on earth did the sculptor managed to pull off that effect because that statue is pretty cool to be honest. Least to me. I legit didn't know it was a statue at all at first, rather a really well done Photoshop job.
Because she is a disney character. And disney characters are perceived as innocent, fun, and beautiful. However when you contort that image, you are also contorting the subliminal links within your mind. A lot of artwork is straightforward. But I like the kind of artwork that has more of a psychological aspect.
tbh i find dismaland an intriguing concept, depressing but a really cool idea
I’d love for this to reopen again. It’s a shame it was only temporary :(
I don't understand why people call it ugly and hate on it? it's brilliant, amazing and creative! Banksy is a genius, but well, not everyone is open mind, I see 😒
It's really not, it's about as creative as a 13 year old girl's edgy suicide squad fanfiction. Literally anyone could do something this pretentious.
smegel limes everybody has their own persuasion of art, I find it amazing, you find it awful, I'll not try to change your point of view on that.
gabounex I agree. This is an absolutely stunning piece of art. It's something no one has ever thought of doing and makes one thing in life better. And that thing is inspiration. Even there's a movie set for it
>This is what hipsters actually believe
smegel limes yeah, yeah whatever.
wish this wouldve opened once a year, would do anything to see the art, banksy is an inspiration
Halloween
This is brilliant. Disneyland is a manufactured happy place showing the artificial wonders of the world. Dismaland is the reality that is facing our very fractured world. And it's a huge wake up call for the everybody!
+no hassle You're right, no one should be happy, we should all be mentally ill CZcams commenters who contribute nothing to society.
+David Richard So that's not at all what he just said.
+David Richard the irony is strong here
bonging Dude it isn't pretentious at all. It's Banksy. It's what he does. The idea of collating his and other Artists work is a great big fuck you to the Elite and their ilk. It's not meant to be a fun and happy place. If you want nice happy parks (I like them too) that's also fine. There are plenty of those including Alton Towers and Disney's very own DisneyLand. It's okay to be optimistic and to look at the good, but you also have to show the not so good. It's called balance my friend. Keep that in mind.
+bonging You would wonder on how many people don't think they are "super obvious social issues".
The fact that an outdated art piece about Princess Diana will "draw furious, offended headlines", and I'm sure it will, shows the media's warped priorities. Refugees are dying today, but newspapers would rather write about Diana.
+Alex Charlton
Honestly connected that to Diana instantly, his art has so much effect on people. Surprising the boat piece with refugees hasn't been in the headlines, we should be more aware these things are actually happening. This park should be better publicized better, there is a strong message to be spread. It will cause outrage, i'm certain of it, a little controversy will do us no harm. We need to open our eyes to this harsh reality that many innocent people are suffering in.
I agree that the media is "warped", couldn't have put it better myself.
Who is princess Diana?
@@iks2515 how old are you?
They are warped and sadly most of the newspapers and the media are owned by the right, rich and powerful people who know that the real issues, the humanist issues, need to be hidden or dumbed down from us all otherwise the masses revolt. For me dismaland really represented capitalism v socialism, the rich painting over the suffering of millions.
@@NomadAngie she has a bear made with signs in its name, what would you think
"Sorry kids, sorry for ... Channel 5." lol u cheeky bugger
munky cheez I hate channel 5 myself. Glad he said it.
Watching in may 2023 and “all that’s left is the media and police” gave me chills!
I would love to see that done in the center of the United States. That is the most outstanding art show I have ever seen! Thanks you for sharing!
Everyone of these pieces are so on point and meaningful
"How else to exit any amusement park without an exit from the gift shop". Definitely not ironic, Banksy's documentary is called Exit From the Gift Shop
Would have loved to see more dressed up characters, with the Banksy touch.
I don't understand why British people are so good at acting dismal. Their country's pretty cool.
TheDrakon glad you love us
I like the Exit through the gift shop reference in the park, great movie about banksy.
i used to make fun of this back then, but looking back this is actually mindblowing. banksy did a fantastic job.
I'm looking forward to a visit here..... I think
Clever, thought provoking, and sinister modern art experience. However, between the 2 videos , I agree, I basically saw the entire venue
This is brilliant! I would totally goto see this.
It was only temporary :(
I know. Shame. I would have loved to see it.
+HazardousFromage what omfg are you kidding me
If you've been to Disney World in Florida it's basically like this. Waiting for 4 hours to get on a 30 second ride in 90 degree temperature and charging $5 for water.
I'm a little disappointed it seems to be more of a spoof of the idea of Disneyland rather than how legitimately terrible the actual experience is. It's a decent commentary but a little unnecessary to see this all you gotta do is go to Disneyland during tourist season.
You can get free ice water from any stand that has cups. Just saying.
After they were required legally to do so.
+Lucetube GPlusStillSux It's my understanding that the policy has always existed at Disney World. Whether by law or company policy, they're not gonna let people die of heat stroke. And it's much the same at every amusement park I've ever visited.
Then you haven't been very often or it varies per segment. Legoland was also required to do it a few months ago.
Interesting take, Lucetube: Disneyland is its own critique. The same way that it's unnecessary for comedians to do Trump impressions.
worlds most depressing theme park wow.
Heather Mac Yeah, isn't it great !
+Heather Mac Are you kidding? This is hilarious.
6 years later and you still missed the point
I'm gutted I missed this. I would have loved to have gone to visit this!
Ironically, this is potentially a great business idea.
Could that guy at 4:05 be banksy, it could be and we wouldn't even know lol
Looking forward to goin here thoug
"hey kids we are going to Disneyland!" show up here, TA-DA childhood ruined.
Hhahahahahha ikr ur friggen funnyyyy
Best day out for a long long time, still in awe - amazing visuals - loved it
I actually really love the concept of this!
One of the best days of my life when I went there ❤️
great at last! `Well done Banksy.
The history of that building in Weston is also very relevant. As a child I used to spend my summers there when it was the lido style 'Pool', we spent the whole day there for 30p and some climbed in for free over the wall. It was always packed with local kids. Then some local councillers sold it and turned it into the Tropicana! The price more than tripled and it never made money. All the local kids stopped going.
The funny thing is that when people say they don’t like it, that it’s ugly, it’s like they don’t realise they’re living in it.
I remember the PTSD Action Man and the rusty car with crochet or whatever over the patches. I was really depressed at the time and it was the perfect event for me to visit.
IVE BEEN TRIGGERED!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS WAY 2 EDGY FOR ME AND FOR THE INTERNET.
OMG...
PLS
WAY
2
EDGGYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW!!!!!!
THANK YOU for POSTING!!!!!
What if that random guy actually is banksy and they're just fucking with us
The staff's attitudes is what really gets to me. End joy.
This feels like every dream I had when I was 8
so...a real life Krabby land ?
I wish I could go to this so terribly
Loved it!
Wish I had visited this place 😃
This isn't particularly deep...the argument seems to be, bad things happen in the world, here are visual representations of it in the form of a parody of DisneyLand. Uh huh. And...what? I applaud the creativity but it's not that novel to take something happy like DisneyLand and just do the opposite of it.
+David Richard Has this been done elsewhere?
+David Richard It isn't the opposite of Disneyland. Perhaps if you had understood that you would also in turn understand the exhibition.
David Richard I always sortve thought the same. It's like you see bad things but okay.... are we gunna do anything about it? Or did you just spend money to mock it. Why not just create a creative solution. Idk but then again art is just expression so it doesn't seem to need to serve a purpose. Idk.
To do it at this scale sounds pretty amazing actually. It's one thing to show it on a canvas in some art gallery, it's quite another to actually stand inside the art itself and experience it.
@@Popopatop Banksy DOES do something about it; he donates most of the proceeds from his art to charities, and so by buying his art or buying a ticket to dismaland we are helping to solve these issues.
Coming back to this years later, it’s interesting how Cinderellas piece mimics Princess Diana death, since the two are rather similar in character. So maybe stunning pieces I would love it to comeback!!!
I LOVE BANKSY`S WORK!!!!!!!
Went here today and I definitely recommend it!
Thank You so much for the detailed tour! I may never make it there in person, this is good enough for me! :-)
If Banksy's "social commentary" were lyrics he would be Sum 41.
Basic middle school level pseudo intellectual bullshit for people to think is so deep. Seriously, this guy hasn't said an original thing in his life. His work is like if Hallmark made sarcastic anarchist greeting cards.
no name Sum 41 kind of have some good songs dude
Mixing the real world with a little bit of fantasy brilliant
Wow
Cool Britania indulging in it's wackadoodle swagger, this bizzare form of expression. Tapping into numerous aspects of Britishness replete with intimation.
3:54 I am dead after watching this line😂😂
Love it!
Fantastic message. A true message
you have any guns...grenades.....unicorns...?
I regret that I never got to see this first hand.
WHYYYYYYYY would you want to work at a place like this?? just whyyyyyyy
Because you can say you worked in Banksy's Theme Park once.
+Decosion here's one reason, aside from the fact you'd have worked under Banksy:
most jobs require you to come in with a go-getter attitude, even if you feel dead inside. at this park, just come looking like you hate life and it fits the theme!
Decosion Beats working at Disneyland.
It is an acting role, they are not real employees.
Do it again?!
That last bit, quite fitting after all these years
the statue in the castle seems like a reference to the death of princess Diana
I really wanted to work here😂
Please reopen ❤
"Exit through the giftshop" xD
It should go on a world tour.
GENIUS.
I love the statue of a sitting lady being attacked by masses of seagulls. It gets a bit like this in the nearest town to where I live if they know you've got some chips.
a great satirical criticism for disneyland, brilliant and original, this would be the perfect place to go in the vacations for Misery (from Ruby Gloom), HA HA HA.
Sleepwalking is playing in the background at 2:05. Wonderful
This is really good even at the start having the people at the entrance so not a part of whats going on they are like minimalised spirits.
The employees looked so pissed off xD
That's the point
Is this an upmarket version of Southport Pleasure beach? On a serious note. Banksy. You're a genius!
can anyone tell me what song is playing at 1:53??? really love the idea of going to this dismal theme park i feel like i could really get into it. lol
Did you find it I’m looking for it
story 11 Found It It’s Ritchie Valens- SleepWalk
Love it
Great great art!
Wow, this has been getting a lot of hate. In my opinion, it seems interesting! Its something different,,refreshing. Something new to experience, don't you think? And to view the art, wow!
Love it, genius.
Even this documentary clip is dismal.
I need to go here. I need to go here right now. This is completely hilarious.
Banksy needs to open one in LA :)
This man is amazing
Tbh, perfect selfie place. For the arts and all
Man that place looks fun to visit.
We all need a little reality.
amazing 😮🧐👍👍👏👏
I feel like the only person who wished they could go. It looked so interesting
have never ever wanted to go to Disneyland but fully support and am inspired by Banksy's Dismaland and will take an F ride to get there.
Brilliant.
I did take my kids there ! It was an amazing experience !
Mummy Mim you shouldn’t take kids there
what is the entrance price?
Go Banksy. Always staying relevant. ❤️ You more and more man.💋👏
anyone know the music playing in the background at about 1:50?
it sounds familier
Appears in Breaking Bad
OBEY THE GIANT. any idea what scene?
+Andrew Rocha I remember that from the Stephen King movie as a child. It scared the shit outta me
turtle79070 Sleepwalk by Santo & Johnny
madcowlicks im disappointed in my self because i was listening to this almost religiously just a few days ago...
brilliant
4:00 Banksy!!! letsgooo
this is call art.. as an artist you express yourself and that is what Disney doesnt want.. so keep it up artist.
what is that song name at 1:56
4:00 that’s him 100%
Well done. :)
man's a genius
I hate that new reporter. He's so full of himself
+MsHarleen Quinzel Isn't he the one that did that terrible Robert Downey Jr. "interview"
Soundwave3000 Yes he is. I saw that interview and yes he is a complete prick!
Soundwave3000 Also the Quentin Tarantino interview where he did terrible terrible job at
MsHarleen Quinzel New? Krishnan Guru-Murthy has been reporting on Channel 4 since about '98
+karmastar06 I know he's not new. I don't remember typing new. I thought I typed damn.
I might have been talking while typing. oopsie.
Does anyone know the song that's playing in the background on 1:58? I know the tune but it's hard to find it since there's no lyrics to it :-(
Patrick Limos same here!
+Niccolo Gigauri I've been trying to find the title for months. If you come across it could you let me know? Lol thanks!
Um, wow. How...edgy.
+Des Don't you find it the least bit funny? I find this completely funny. Not edgy, no. That's.. not the right word..
It's message is obvious and intrusively blunt that it's almost cringeworthy...
Ella S I was being sarcastic.
+Des Calling it 'edgy' makes you look really ignorant.. Just sayin...
bob baloni I don't care.
what did she say at the 2:17 ??
So weird to see how this has gone over so many peoples heads. There is even people in the comments thinking it's a real theme park. The dumbing down process is coming along nicely.
Please come to the United States. The Jersey shore a few hourswould be a PERFECT place for a Dismaland display. It would also be a few hours from my place, but that's just coincidence. ;)
exit through the gift shop
