Ukraine To Receive First US-Made F-16 Jets In "Weeks" As Fighter Pilots Complete Training | Russia

  • Ukraine is expected to receive its first F-16 fighter jets from its Western allies in June-July, said a high-ranking Ukrainian military source. However, it is yet to be ascertained which country would supply the F16 fighter jets to Ukraine. So far, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Belgium have committed to sending F-16 jets to Ukraine. The Ukrainian military, facing Russia's full-scale February 2022 invasion, has been limited to a relatively small fleet of Soviet-era jets. For over two years of war, Ukraine has sought US-made F-16 fighter jets to counter Russia's air superiority.

Yeah pretty sure they are going to be disappointed
      Contrary to popular belief
Ukraine doesnt need the F-16 to go blow for blow with the Russian air force
They need the F-16s ability to use virtually any western country weapons for air to ground targets
Russia is using jamming to disrupt JDAMs but the F-16 can use laser guided bombs which are immune to jamming
Since Ukraine destroyed 2 A-50 as well attacked several S-300 and S-400 sites
Russia's ability to maintain A2/D2 over Ukraine has been severely compromised

said game changer isnt gonna be up in the air confronting air targets though, its likely to do hit and runs where it closes a certain distance and drops a smart payload to go towards Crimea faster and larger distances. its a run tactic because the jet is too far from air defenses to be shot down. its only chance of being shot down is if russia deploys AA at the frontlines, its only use on the air combat role would be to go after strategic bombers that wander to deep but like what russia also does, ukraine will just do it also. its like expensive artillery for behind the line targets.

Word is that the English-language training element for the Ukranian pilots has been a disaster, and thus, Western "mercenaries" will actually pilot these aircraft -- i.e., active-duty pilots who agree to take an "early retirement package." As well arises the question of what airfields will be suitable to deploy, rearm, refuel, and maintain these aircraft from. There are none such left in Ukraine. And if airfields in NATO nations are used for this purpose, they automatically become legitimate targets for Russian missile and airstrikes -- as the Russians have already repeatedly made abundantly clear.

The same thing that the USA is trying to do in Georgia now, by the way.

When people will learn that there is no game changer in warfare? All platforms have its vulnerabilities and the way you mitigate them is by use them in combined tactical operations. The F16s are vulnerable to Russia’s S 300, S400 and other anti aircraft systems. Another problem that the Ukrainian have is that you can’t compress years of training in a few months. You can learn the basics but they will not be proficient. Plus, a few F16 will not make that difference when Russia have hundreds of equivalent and more advanced aircraft anyway.
