The Grizzled is the only CMON game I own. Art, theme, game play and getting it to the table make it great for me.
From their ‘or not’ division
Cthulhu: Death May Die, Chaos in the Old World and XCOM... so good. Some of my fav games of all time!
OH, and The Others!
Dang it, CMON has a lot of great games.
I'm in the process of painting Starcadia Quest, grabbed it out of a retail clearance sale. Quite hyped to play it soon.
I completely agree with Tom's top 2 games in this listed.
I played Blood Rage once and really didn't care for it. Never tried the others he mentioned.
Project Elite is a lot of fun, but I find it better with more players. 2 player is ok, but best with 4.
Marvel United is great for the modularity of it. Various locations, heroes, villains, and just endless combos. This does lead to some games where you just destroy the villain, and some games where you get hammered out of the gate. But I've never been upset by that, because even if you lose really quickly, setup is fairly fast and straight forward.
Rising Sun still holds up. It’s a very good game 😊
Far and away #1
Love the Arcadia quest games and I'm hooked now on bloodborne. Sure a bit dark for you but I love the deckbuilding aspect of it. And if you get Tha Chalice Dungeon expansion, tons of plug and play with monsters and bosses.
Yay! Love for Rising Sun!!! Given how so many of these lists have gone, I wasn't even sure if it would make the top ten cut, let alone sit higher than Blood Rage. Rising Sun is one of my absolute favorite, deliciously thematic games, and the first one I've bought that I'd "deluxe-ify" in a heartbeat. Happy to see it's also a favorite of Tom's.
The Others: 7 Sins has the best minis CMON has ever made IMO thanks to Studio McVey. The game is one of the MOST plug and play too with multiple hero squads, multiple sub enemy factions and 7 enemy teams plus multiple big bag nasties. And the icing on the cake is a 1vTeam game that is so rarely done well these days.
The asymmetrical aspect of it also makes it a great game for people who like to alpha game, as they can be their own team of 1. In my top 3 CMON games.
I picked the others up on a clearance sale after it came out for 30 bucks and I’ve kicked myself for never getting any of the other expansions or sins. They are very pricey these days! Love 1vall games though.
Hate has better minis IMO. Still pretty impressive.
The Others is their best game despite having some of the dumbest looking minis. The sins miss the mark on horror and mostly just look stupid.
you mean until marvel zombies come out, right?
I have eveything I could afford and find for Zombicide Black Plague + Green Horde. Very very plug and play. Love this game.
Cthulhu: Death May Die is definitely my favorite from them, although I really enjoy Marvel United too.
Tom doesn't like it very much. Would definitely be in Zee and Mike's top 10 CMON games
death may die...but only.if you have Big Thulhu
That thing is huge. Just saw it a local gaming store and it's definately not mini...lol.
@@donpowers6056 I did a video about mine. It makes my cat look small
Ethnos! We need that second printing
My favorite of theirs is Blood Rage, then maybe Arcadia Quest? I don’t own very many Cmon games because their retail releases often look like you get about half the game. :D
What happened to Sheriff of Nottingham????
Dogs of War might be my favorite CMON game. I like quite a few but that one is a home run with everyone I have played with.
For those who don't know what Dogs of War is: it's not actually a war game, like the name implies, but a stock-collecting / negotiation game about fantasy-condottiere captains placing workers on different battlefields that determine which non-player faction wins a tug-of-war, also by Paolo Mori who designed Ethnos.
Missing The Grizzled in this list. It is one of those games that grabs you by the throat. No minis in this game but should deserve a spot in the top 10.
Missing death may die and Bloodborn in this list ;)
I love modern art. So random from them as it has zero Minis.
Cthulhu: Death May Die is by far my favorite. Can't believe this didn't crack the top 10.
I just don't like it as much as other people, that's all!
@@thedicetower Dump Zombicide and embrace CDMD :)
@@bobbyjustbobby1 jesus, dude...maybe he just doesn't like the game as much.
Love this series!!
Two of my faves are missing: Death May Die and The Others. Brilliant gems.
My favorite are Xenoshyft and The Grizzled.
I can't get over it not being "C'mon."
Disappointed almost an entire list of co-op games, my Top 5;
1. Blood Rage
2. The Godfather: Corleone's Empire
3. Richard the Lionheart
4. Rising Sun
5. Narcos
I always forget games like Gizmos and Ethnos when I think of CMON, despite both being two of my favorite games. Also love Zombicide Black Plague and Looterz.
I thought Council of 4 for sure. I remember Tom wanted it as a Dice Towers essential game.
Kick Ass doesn’t get enough love
Great list Tom
Great List ! I definitely need to try Project Elite ! However i would have liked to see The Godfather corleone’s empire, to me it’s such a great game ! Have you played it Tom or Someone in the Dice Tower ? (Cause I have the feeling that it’s barely mentioned in all the videos i have been watching in your channel). Btw thanks a lot for all your contents.
They did a Miami Dice review on it with Tom, Sam, and Zee, and they all said good things. It's also popped up in a few different Top 10's
Mike C. Thanks to let me know that !
Yes they played it, reviewed it and it appeared not only on some of their Top 10's but also on a few of Tom and Sam's Top 100 lists.
Tom… Blood Rage at 6?!
Seems about the right place for Blood Rage to me.
Well Blood Rage is not co-op or Marvel so there it is.
Ankh, The Godfather and Sherriff of Nottingham would had definitely made my top 10
Great list. I'd have blood rage 1, lorenzo 2, and marvel united 3. After that idk. Rising sun 4 probably. Good picks though tom
Tom love the list but I thought Rivet Wars would be on there. Did you exclude it cuz its not really Cmon anymore now that its with Steam Forged which I cant want to see what they do.
No, it just didn't make the top 10.
I can't take this list seriously without The Others appearing anywhere
I really want to see more funkovere I would love to see you review the new sets or rank all the characters again with new characyers
What does Tom mean by "Plug n Play"? That you can just start playing really quickly?
It's a more antiquated saying now, but it means you can take out and/or add elements to the game easily to make it a different experience. For example, you might want to add two different monsters to the game this time, so you'd just take out the old ones, add the new, and start playing as usual.
My favs are The Others and Bloodborne. Just lovely.
Though OG Zombicide was my entry to modern board games many years ago, so I guess that still holds a (nostalgic) special place in my heart
Man I wish they would have released expansions for both Gizmos and Ethnos!
Ethnos really should've got multiple expansions. There's so much possibility there, because you can just mash-up any mix of races.
Cdmd and bloodborne!!!
1. Rising Sun
2. Hate
3. The Others
4. Ankh
5. Blue Moon City
6. Blood Rage
7. Sheriff of Nottingham
8. Project Elite
9.The Grizzled
10. Ethnos
The God of War card game is an underrated gem
Is Massive Darkness 2 "2nd edition"? I thought 2nd edition was basically the same game slightly tweaked
Nope! It's actually a totally different game. With subtitles like "Second Tide" for Rum & Bones, I can understand why it can be confusing to tell the difference between a second edition and an outright sequel.
You might have had Blood Rage only 6th but your outfit matched the cover really well. Good coordination there.
I like the Xenoshyft games myself.
Good game!
I did not expect to see this on Tom’s list since it is a tabletop miniatures game but A Song of Ice and Fire is amazing.
I love Gizmos. Everything about it is just so cool to me -- the chain reactions, even the marble-dispenser, as imperfect as it is, adds to the fun. Maybe it's because I studied engineering in school or because I was a Systems Analyst and computer programmer or because when I was even a very little kid, I enjoyed building machines out of block. As a 3 or 4 year old, I managed to launch a block into the air and hit our cleaning lady. Also, around 4 or 5, I actually disassembled my etch-a-sketch to try to figure out how it worked. (I was kind of a precocious kid). The game just fits me perfectly.
HATE and CDMD are awesome too
Erm...HATE?
Dogs of War is by far the most underrated CMOM game
So many great games that didn’t make the list. Cthulhu Death may Die, Kaosball, Godfather, Bloodborne (both the mini version and the card game), Ankh, Hate, The Grizzled…one could make a top 20 and all the games would be good.
Man, CMON has to be one of the highest-quality prolific publishers out there. I hope that after Tom is done with all these Publisher top 10s, he makes a top 10 publishers list in general (I don't think he would ever do that, and I wouldn't blame him, lol). CMON would have to be fairly high on that list. I really want to try Gizmos and Starcadia Quest, and I love Rising Sun, Ethnos, Blood Rage, Marvel United and even a couple others he didn't list.
Shocking to not see our favorite game - Cthulhu: Death May Die, on the list. It is an awesome quick cooperative game with an excellent mechanism of combining a boss monster with a scenario. You can also choose between tens of different heroes, adding a random psychic condition to them, which jumps the replayability and fun to the roof. Ah, and the miniatures are exceptional. Highly recommended game.
Lorenzo il Magnifico is a CMON game! But, seriously, Cthulhu Death May Die is my #1 for sure.
If Marvel United system is so good, then would be cool if they made a AQ theme base set and compatibility packs from AQ/SG core and expansions.
It's not that good. It's a quick simple game with quick setup, that's why they like it.
Dogs of War is definitely my best CMON out there 💖
Mind blown
The only issue I take with CMON games is the amount of exclusive content. I'm not just talking about the KS exclusives (though that gets pretty bad), but even the straight to retail games will inevitably end up with some pretty substantial content that you can only get at a convention, or a magazine subscription, or something. It's even WORSE now that they're adding RETAIL exclusive content, so even if you bought the kickstarter you'll have to re-buy some stuff at retail to ACTUALLY be 'all-in'. I'm sure this isn't as big a deal for everyone, but I like owning EVERYTHING, even if I don't end up using all of it.
Is this accurate? Is there a game with retail exclusives that were not provided to the Kickstarter backers? I know Marvel United had an exclusive from one of the stores, but it was a mini backers got.
@@VaultBoy13 I don't think so. Not that I can think of anyway. He might be referring to the Heroes edition of Marvel Zombies that's retail exclusive? I know in that version the zombies are all standees, so the price is super cheap. I suppose standees would be exclusive but if you're getting the minis instead, I don't think you'd consider it as such. Cool to see that game getting an affordable, entry level price point though.
Ethnos is such a fun game... and the art is genuinely great... John Howe is like Mr. Lord of the Rings! The graphic design is where the game needs help.
Pleasant surprise that Marvel United keeps climbing your list!! Great choice!
Ethnos and MD2 I agree with (and yes, Ethnos does defs need a retheme/reskin/refresh!). But I have a feeling MOTU: Clash for Eternia will rise to the top of my list when it releases! ;D
Project Elite is amazing.
We really enjoy Zombicide Black Plague. Backed Undead and Alive.
am I the ONLY person who always pronounced it as 'C'MON?
There was a short time (2-3 years ago) where they were trying to rebrand as "c'mon."
So many amazing games, probably could have stretched it to 15-20 games and still not struggled to fill the list. My nods that missed your list are The Others, Potion Explosion, and The Grizzled. Surprised The Grizzled missed your list honestly. As a person who does not enjoy cooperative games, The Grizzled does scratch that itch.
Zee was the only one in the Dice Tower who like the Grizzled.
Ankh is definitely near my top CMON games.
1 Rising Sun
2 Blood Rage
3 Ankh
4 Ethnos
5 Blue Moon City
6 Potion Explosion
7 Sheriff of Nottingham
Blue Moon City would be one of my top choices, but I have the original, I forget that CMON made the new version.
Black Plague #1, then it's a toss-up between Death May Die and Massive Darkness 2. Then fourth Marvel United.
Show me the minis!
Where's Ankh? The best out of blood rage and rising sun, IMO
massive darkness 2
marvel united
great game
CMON's edition of **Modern Art** is excellent.
Sheriff of Nottingham man man!!!!!!!
Where was Sheriff?
I really love Sheriff of Nottingham. But my heart is with the Arcane Wonders edition.
1 zombicide black Plague
2 cthulhu death may die
3 Marvel United
4 zombicide night of the living deze
5 Massive darkness 2
6 bloodborne
Also, no Council of Four?
Really surprised not to see Sherff of Nottingham here!
Also, thank you for putting Rising Sun above Blood Rage.
My list from the ones I own:
1. Rising Sun
2. Marvel United X-Men
3. Massive Darkness 2
4. Sheriff of Nottingham
5. Ankh
6. Rum and Bones 2nd Tide
7. Blood Rage
Funny you should mention that! Sheriff of Nottingham was a property of Arcane Wonders before CMON obtained the rights. That's when the Dice Tower added it to their essential line. Tom probably skipped mentioning it here for that reason.
No Ankh or Cthulhu: DmD? 😮
Love Rising Sun it’s a blast at high player counts. I actually was quite disappointed by Marvel United. It’s unique in its theme and the card playing mechanic is cool but it feels a bit too toned down and simple for my tastes, probably more aimed towards a family friendly game. Oh and you forgot one hidden Cmon gem…kick-ass the board game 😅
Zombicide Dark Side is a lot of fun. But Marvel United is a great first pick. 👍
First is a simple filler game? Figures. My favourite is Bloodborne.
I'm hooked on this game! Love it.
Good games, unbelievably bad customer service
Sad that Cthulhu Death May Die didn't make the list. It's MUCH better than Blood Rage IMHO. As is Ankh...
But don't worry - Cthulhu loves you anyway... Muhahaha!
Hot takes:
Ethnos is not ugly; the graphic design and art just doesn't match.
Ankh is the best of the trilogy -- and that's saying something.
Tom is right about Night of the Living Dead being the best Zombicide.
Ethnos is ugly. The board is ugly. The neon player pieces are ugly. The art is the only thing about the game that looks good.
Most games the hive mind deems as “ugly” really aren’t ugly. They just aren’t flashy.
Ethnos is probably one of the ugliest looking games out there, so much so it has kept me from buying it as I cannot get past how bad it looks.
Maybe people would complain less if these were named "Top ten ______ games according to Tom Vassel"? I doubt it though....
Well it does say "With Tom Vasel" in the title so it should help convey its his opinion.
However, based on some of these comments, that isn't the case sadly.
For me, Bloodborne The Board Game is my #1 CMON game. I love the video game, the board game perfectly encapsulates that.
Agree!! Great game, just sucks all the kickstarter content is so way overpriced on secondary markets. $75 for a single hunter with cards.
Marvel United love and have already. Want Gizmo and interested in Rising Sun. Zombieside one my family members want to get.
Ankh gods of Egypt is the best CMON game.
Ethnos and Blood Rage should both be top 5. And Project Elite at #2? Speed rush games like this or ugh, Galaxy Trucker 🤮are suited for a very specific audience. Way too high on this list.
Agreed.
Tom was the one who talked CMON into reprinting Project Elite he loved the original so much.
I passed on Marvel United since it seemed like a bunch of plastic. That appears to have been a bad decision. I wonder if they'll ever do a 2nd kickstarter for it.
They did. It was Marvel United X:Men. Now you have to hope they do a 3rd kickstarter for it.
@@AmstradHero Oh no! lol. I really missed out. I'll keep an eye out if they do another one. Maybe since reviews are good and its a popular IP they'd do a reprint.
Marvel United is just boring imo… very overrated. My list would have Blood Rage Ethnos at the top.
Arcadia Quest was so much better
Blood Rage is very boring imo... very overrated.
People have different opinions.
Counterpoint: It isn't.
Haha! You nearly got me. Pure rage bait list. No one older than 10 would put MU over RS and BR. Nice try sir. Better luck next time
This seems like a comment you might have thought twice before posting?
@@thedicetower It seems like a comment that no one older than 10 should be posting.
We loved Arcadia Quest and probably played this more then any other game, but we felt Starcadia was horrible. The plug and play just made the game boring and pointless.
What can ACTUALLY be done about CMON?!?
I had/have 2 ongoing pledges, etc. I changed my address with them months ago on both pledges. I sent them a message just to re re confirm that they had my current address. The first ($150) was sent to the wrong address. And the second has the correct address. WTF?
SO the first ($150) they sent to the wrong address and told me to go there and work it out with the people who live there (over 4 hours away) I would gladly send them postage again to have the game I already gave them $150 for. Nope. Work it out with the people who live at the address we sent it. I don't know who they are or how to ask. No phone, email, nothing. I sent them a letter and never got a response.
Since this is obviously a massive FU to me and I am out $150 and they will not send mine to me, I asked to be refunded for both campaigns.
They told me to pound sand about the $150 one and if I want to cancel the other one ($350) they will charge me 17.5%! Keeping $62 of my money.
So I am out over $200 and told "your parcel has been delivered to the address on the file, so in this case, we have fulfilled our obligations to you in full. We seek your understanding on this matter."
understanding? WTF? What kind of customer service is this? I have spent $1000s with Cmon. Just Sad.
I feel like contacting my credit card and calling the whole thing fraud. I paid and got nothing. Sounds like fraud.
