I can imagine him singing The Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America every 9/11 if he was alive today...even though he was a French Canadian. That would bring every American to tears...
I grew up in Montreal in the 70s and indeed Mr. Doucet was an irreplaceable treasurer. My personal story of Roger was how he agreed to come and sing live at our church on Christmas Eve in 1977 and sang O Holy Night. Wonderful to hear the thrilling voice of the greatest announcer of all time Mr. Danny Gallivan as well! Thanks for posting
Roger Doucet was a national treasure. As an American, I always appreciated his magnificent rendering of our national anthem whenever the Rangers visited the Montreal Forum.
Roger Doucet was to The Montréal Canadiens what Robert Merrill was to the New York Yankees: both men took pride in singing the national anthem of their respective countries and are still dearly missed today.😢
Roger Doucet, what a performer and a voice. Especially for singing our American anthem and his Canadian anthem. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🏒🇨🇦🇨🇦 Rest In Peace to him and his golden pipes.
And then there was Gerry Cheevers, chomping away at his gum like a cow while checking out the crowd. Way to show respect to the country that made you rich, lol. Might be the single most overrated goalie in the Hall of Fame.
Rene Rancourt of the Bruins is one of, if not the best to do it in the USA, and Doucet the best ever in Canada. When these two teams played they should have invited the other teams anthem singer to come with and do their country's anthem.
"We stand on guard for rights and Liberty." This was when Quebec was willing to succeed. They changed the words in the national anthem to this phrase for that.
all of Canada needs that now to protest this present era of lockdowns. If we have any more winters with no fans allowed at hockey games, Gary Betman will move all the Canadian NHL teams except the ones in Alberta to US cities.
Hey buddy, did you even saw the original lyrics before saying that we changed these in Quebec? Check the facts before you comment and even more, before you reply, you'll look more intelligent!

Chills!
We miss his golden voice .
We stand on our guard FOR RIGHTS AND LIBERTY~!!! Loved it when the crowd cheered that part. Oh Canada

I love the sound of the organ

Great comparison.
He had a beautiful voice. Nobody can sing our national athem like he did with such pride.
Absolutely NOBODY sings both Anthems with the passion of Rogue Doucet RIP
The Best
Amen!
I'm sure you meant ''Roger'', not a Nissan model! loll
There was nobody like him and there is nobody like him now.
Roger Doucet, what a performer and a voice.
Especially for singing our American anthem and his Canadian anthem. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🏒🇨🇦🇨🇦
Rest In Peace to him and his golden pipes.
Roger Doucet and Jim Cornelison are hands down the BEST 2 anthem singers of all-time!
I'd take Wayne Messmer in Chicago. Roger Doucet was the best though.
Roger Doucet paid the highest respect to the US and Canada by his beautiful and moving singing of our anthems.
Yep!
Still gives this flyers fan Goosebumps.

@@mikeprevost8650 Weird, but it looked like he was half singing and half chewing.
@@mikeprevost8650- in fairness he did for both anthems and you should see them today if that bothers you lol.
We miss his heavenly voice a Quebec treasure Roger Doucet. 😩😩
The Montreal Canadiens always had the best sounding organ.
Definitely something about the way it sounded during anthems and games.
They still do.
I just love how the organist follows HIS cue, not the other way around!
That's the way it was doing when he was there in Montreal. Great stuff.
Slower tempo than normal, maybe because the game was so important?
His singing of the Canadian anthem and the American anthem as well was incredible, never matched.
He also did a fantastic job singing the Soviet anthem in Russian, during the 1972 Summit Series.
When hockey was real. Now we are Stuck with Kenny Albert and Zegras.
He was the BEST !!

Raincoat was a French American and arguably one of America's best!!
last part of O Canada was weird but I respect the first part of it and the American national anthem.

@@lakeeriesailor2852 - I agree. For "rights and liberty!!!"
O Canada was composed by a french canadian and maybe you should check the original lyrics and then you'll discover that what you wrote is wrong!
Did you even listen to the video? It's right there at the end of the anthem. I don't care who wrote it As the words have been changed many times.

Oh and they played hockey too….
Roger Doucet quebecs national treasure.
Nobody did it better.
Nope
Nobody can sing the way He could
Thoughts and prayers to the NDP Liberal coalition government
Sounds like he slowed down the tempo of both songs for some reason.
I wonder if this was after his brain surgery and return? I remember commentators talking about it during the timeframe.
It's called interpretation. And IMO it worked. US anthem singers need to go to school on how he sang it.
It's Doucet, not Ducet
Thank you for that. I have no idea how I had it incorrect in a few of my posts. Even found an n on one. Thank you for the correction!!!
Couldnt stand the frog
Ok well he was still hands down the best anthem singer period. That guy in Chicago is almost as good though....
@@RDriver2.0 Maybe if your from the east. Everyone here old enough hates that frog.
