Buy one very lightly used if you can find one. They depreciate VERY fast. I paid $29k with no money down and 0% interest (traded in my truck), and when you sign on the dotted line before you even drive it off it loses a good 20% immediately (with 0 miles). That sting wont be as bad on a 2016 with low miles (mine is a 2016 and has 14k miles).
With that said however, its a fun car. Best looking hatchback in my opinion and if you save a few grand you can spend $3k and get a stage 3 for the cost of a brand new one. Another advantage to buying used is you're closer to the warranty being up and modding it wont matter lol. This is why besides a green filter (with open lid) and a cat back and 50/50 bypass valve (turbosmart) I wont do anything to mine. Springs might be about the only other mod. cjponyparts. com sells parts for good prices for these FYI.

You guys should go with an e30 tune. It will give you another 20hp and 25lbft. I have the e30 tune on mine and I love it! I'll never switch back to just straight 93 unless I'm going on a road trip.
Yeah but nay E over 15 will eventually gum up the injectors and fuel pump, causing problems, CEL, and driveablility. I've been down this road with two ST's.
Yeah I've heard this before so I only run e30 sometimes now. I'm mostly 93oct.
I've run e30 for well over a year never any issues. It still pulls just as hard today as it did day 1.

Keep _boostin I have around 40k miles on a stage 3 tune and I've never had a single problem with the car.
Both cars made good numbers! Typically you'll see JST Tunes make more torque than what we send out here at Stratified, just a difference of tuning opinions :-P

Don’t mess with ethanol unless you run methanol injection it’s a dirty gas yes you make more power but the st 2.0 is bad enough with carbon buildup on the valves

@@totov7325 Do your standard tune if it doesnt have any mods. Get Cobb and run the S1 93 tune from stratified. Stratified has the best damn tunes you can buy and upload to the car. when you get mods then work on going e-30 and your car will become a beast.

Just get a traction bar you'll be keeping it on the road way better. My canned strat tune netted me 275 whp and 361 ft lbs and it use to drag me off the road till I added the bar lol

Thats it, Im just gonna go for it and buy my first mods. Im going to buy a Cobb motor mount (most important part right now to be honest) and an Injen CAI.
No, the intake is a must for the Cobb access port for proper air to fuel ratios while tuned. I already have the tune and the intake is also for the sounds. I'm loving the BOV and turbo flutter. Exhaust is expensive so it's later on the list after wheels.
Blake Bryan I know this already you're wasting your breath. If really want to get gains without upgrading the turbo you'd replace the intercooler.
I just added a Green Filter for about $50 and get the turbo flutter and nice sound (you can leave the end open or the whole lid)...an intake is not worth the upgrade unless you're just looking to dress up the engine bay. The factory tubing is already very efficient on the stock turbo. If someone said you NEED the intake to accompany your tune they're pulling your leg...just curious but what source are you using (link would be nice) that claims its absolutely necessary for gains?
I did put a 50/50 turbosmart bypass valve on it and it hisses A LOT lol...that is pure asthetics as a bov does nothing on stock turbos.

For stage 2, what mods are absolutely necessary, I understand that stage 3 is supposed to be FBO (Inter cooler, intake, downpipe). I have a 2017 focus st with downpipe and an intake on a stratified flash tune. Is it necessary to have an inter cooler before going stage 2?
intake isnt really something you have to have as th factory intake is good for 500hp, intercooler is very first (besides mounts) that you should do (intercooler/mounts, downpipe/catback,hot,cold pipes with tail/hks bov, then intake/big turbo)

I was thinking about getting a wrx but I could s focus st for around 15k and do more to it than a wrx. Plus idky but almost every wrx race it loses🤔
a regular wrx is not great it has realy but turbo lag, A wrx sti os great but is worth 30k wich is not a 30k car to be honest. Also you can get a focus st and with 5k or 8k tune kits you will have more whp and wtq than a wrx sti and More wtq than a focus rs 😅

My buddys WRX just has the following bolt ons::: top mount IC, ETS CAI, grimmspeed catted downpipe.... thats it and a custom tune... he still needs E85, FMIC, bolt on turbo... and if he REALLY wanted to squeeze as much HP out of it he xan go cat less down pipe... with that 3 bolt ons hes pushing 270WHP (on a mustang Dyno!!) on a dyno jet that’s easily close to 300WHP lol
Alyn Romero I’ve kept the stock turbo, just made the housing a little bit bigger and stronger, plus about $3k in upgrades, I did a drag and it’s at 12.9 1/4th I’ve stopped because I’m having a kid. I was trying to break 12.3 cause, if I’m not mistaken, that’s the fastest stock turbo 1/4th in the world. But I mean the WRX are also a good platform, I just don’t trust those damn boxer engines.

Flash tune and custom tune are the same thing. Flashing the ECU is how these cars are tuned
@@almightyt a custom tune is customly made for your parameters being through datalog or dyno. Simple flash tunes are off a same ecu car but for their elevation and for how their car was running at that time. Completely different.

that's bull. exhaust is necessary for proper exhaust flow. If its 3" downpipe keep it 3" all the way out. people think they can match a 3" downpipe to a 2.5" catback. the 2 shouldn't be in the same sentence

I find that strange that in the states you guys are making those numbers with bolt ons but here in Aussie we make 250hp from factory on the St and the XR5 makes 220hp? I know Europe and the pacific gets the top line performers but didn't think you guys would miss out
Logan Ruff this is whp which is generally 10-20% lower than crank hp which is what you're thinking of off the top of my head the focus st here in the states i believe makes 252 crank hp stock

Hi. Its a big difference the cobb tune vs Stratified? I have full bolts on my st but the stage 3 of cobb doesnt make a big difference.
Stratified will take all your mods into consideration and will tune it for those specific mods. They charge $100 I believe but I’ve heard it’s worth it. I’m using Cobbs OTS stage one tune right now, and once I’m happy with all the mods I have I will buy a Stratified tune because overall they are better.
If you haven’t already, the Stratified tune is the best way to go, it makes a crazy big difference you can definitely feel it

All stock parts are swapped. Intercooler, downpipe, exhaust, intake and a tune. Everything in the engine and turbo remain untouched.

It’s pretty well known that the “car scene” loves to withhold mod revealing because they’re overly protective of their builds. Sometimes it’s for competitive reasons but most of the time it’s to make them feel like their build is unique in some way. Me personally I don’t give a fuck if people know what mods I had on my car so I always told. It’s not that serious lmfao.

300+ hp can be done, just takes the right parts and right tune. Stock turbo record is 319 whp by JST Tuning
The difference is in turbo dude. The ST turbo is built for instant boost which is fun but over all CFM lacks. It would be one thing if the head didn't flow or something. Otherwise, its no big deal.
LOL, my 1998 Camaro put down 323whp stock. Someone is always faster. That car is long gone and I've moved on to other cars but the point remains -- just because you put down xxxwhp doesn't mean anything. I've seen plenty of "dyno racing" but it's just a tool, it not a real world performance indicator because of things like weight and driver.
HP isn't even that important. The ST is a handling car, a drivers car. Turbo swap the ST and its safely in the 400hp range on stock bottom end.
The Fiesta ST is the better driver's car, better engine too.

Damn, I made 260whp and 340wtq on a pro-tune from the best tuner on the east coast. I have every bolt on except an FMIC. I'm tuned for 93 octane. Can't believe you guys are reaching 275whp. My tuner says I'm pretty much maxed. Different dynos maybe? I used a Dyno Jet and looks like you're on a Dynocom? *Edit* Know I needed an FMIC but that wouldn't give me 15WHP, maybe a few more at best. Mainly just keeps charge temps down. I sold my ST anyways and I now have an RS.

Shoulda bought a Cadillac ATS.
Those are 38K for the base man.... Focus ST is 21K for the base. Depending on where you purchase the ST you can get them cheap in richer areas, but in cheaper areas they might take advantage. They used to be near WRX prices but now they are WAY cheaper.

You don't have to buy new. ATS is probably cheaper than the ST. Not to mention the ATS has many more options compared to the ST.
I've looked on Car Gurus and you'd be better off leasing the Ford ST new unless you want a beat up Caddy. You want either the 2.0T AWD or RWD but absolutely not the 2.5L engine. There is one near me for 14K about but 88K miles already. Is that a good deal? Doesn't seem like it. If they were the same brand new yes of course the ATS 2.0T is awesome but they are charging that Caddy premium price for the insides in my opinion. For goodness sake it's a chevy 2.0T.

Oh no that is not a good deal lol I got a 2013 luxury AWD 2.0T with 55k miles for 16 grand and that's including walsers lifetime powertrain warranty. And you've got zzp who produces top notch aftermarket parts. I've got their stage 1 kit (intake, downpipe, tune) and I'm just shy of 300 whp on 93. Not just that, but I've heard the cornering on the ST is garbage and its impossible to win a race from a dead stop due to tire spin. On the other hand the launch in the awd ats snaps your head back pretty good and handles great in summer and winter.
I have a pro tuned 2015 WRX I'm just saying from a msrp value it's not horrible... I wasn't crazy about the Focus ST but say you needed cash right now instead of buying a 16K Caddy and could lease a Focus ST for like 4200 a year. That's not horrible. I bought my car outright but sort of rushed into it and of course I love my WRX and the power and the AWD.... there are just factors I'm exploring. The ATS is out of the question. I'd just keep my WRX instead. Near me there aren't any ATS 2.0T for cheap....especially the coupe. There is only one ATS that is around 17K with 34K miles on it. ONLY 1 anywhere near me. The ATS is a nice car though.... I'm not doubting that. Drive it with pride buddy.... :D
The car is nice but the wheels are super ugly.... You do need an upgrade...

Christopher Rogers obviously 276 is higher than most dumb fuck because ITS FULL BOLT ons for FULL BOLT ONS and a CUSTOM tune those are WEAK ASS NUMBERS considering the car comes with 250 claimed HP and FBO only mad 275 ! So tell me if bolts ons and tune doesn’t wake up the car (said no one ever) wtf does then ???
