  • Trash On Everest Left By Climbers is SHOCKING
    On average, each climber generates about 18 pounds of trash during their mountain marathon. And sadly, most of that waste gets abandoned, littering the slopes like a trail of breadcrumbs. What are the ecological consequences for Mount Everest? And will all this trash cause more deadly accidents?

    Everywhere people go they transform it into a trash pile and toilet. Way to go mountaineers. Kudos.

    So disgusting,they dont care about the beauty of the place,the reference to the mountain,they only care about reaching the summit. Why are they not required to take out what they take in?

    People forget that Mt. Everest is a sacred place for many people of Nepal and not cleaning up their garbage is an insult to them. Can you imagine camping out at the Vatican or Westminster Abby and leaving their garbage and literal shit behind when they leave. More respect needs to be given about this issue.

      @Accident-stories  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I completely agree with you. The government of Nepal needs to take more action!

    • @Beaker709
      @Beaker709 Před 11 měsíci

      @Mountaineering-stories Unfortunately, Nepal 🇳🇵 is a poor country and makes a lot of money from issuing permits so it is in their interest to issue as many permits as possible. Since most climbers are usually well-off financially and come from wealthier countries, there is (or should be) an expectation that climbers leave the mountain as they found it for others to use. Climbers have to remember that they are guests of Nepal and their citizens (including the sherpas) so need to act that way. Unfortunately many climbers think of their climb is more important than treating the mountain and their peoples like their own property.

    One solution is that Tibetan government require climbers to inventory they supplies they bring on the climb and make a $2000 deposit. If the climbers return with their used supplies, they get their deposit back. If not, the money will be used for clean up operations of the garbage on Mt. Everest. That is if it is at all possible due to the altitude.

      I don't think it is appropriate to refer to those climbers as "mentally ill". They are selfish, disrespectful, and rude to do this but saying they are "mentally ill" is a disservice to people who are actually suffering with a mental illness.

    The Himalayan authorities are certainly ok with this. They hand out permits at record numbers, pocket the cash and then pretend to complain about the trash. And guess what, they do the very next thing the next year. When they get more serious about the environment than the money, then something might be done. I refuse to get upset about other's incompetence and corruption. AND by the way, the climbers don't care either, they don't have to-they're rich.
