A college classmate recalled bologna bowls: fried baloney with scrambled egg in the 'bowl'. She was embarrassed by her single mother's poverty but I found her Mother's homemade breakfast for her little girl heartwarming. 🤗
Nothing embarrassing about doing what you gotta to keep the family fed. If anything, she's ingenious for finding ways.
Somehow that is heartwarming. Something about it just screams “Loving mother doing her best”

We had this in school called bologna boats. Bologna baked until it curled up and filled with mashed potatoes and cheese.
Did James Turner delete his comment?

Nope, but I always end up eating after watching these

I was too. Lol
I normally joke about overly processed foods of the USA but you're helping to feed people in hard times. I've been in positions where food like this is necessary. thankyou sir.
Me too!
I like how you talked so much about yourself like people actually care
@@benk7902 I like how you think Luke Guy's comment was actually directed to people in general, and not the content creator, WolfePit.
I just made this. I used hot dogs instead of bologna because it's what I had. The family approved of it as there isn't much leftover. Solid recipe overall 👍
Reminds me of my grandma's go-to recipe, "mishmosh" - instant mashed potatoes, frozen peas and carrots, and chopped up whatever leftover meat she had in the fridge (half a hamburger, a hot dog, breakfast ham)
Some farm people do their leftoovers that way, combine leftover mashed potatoes, add vegetables and cut up left over meat and mix it all up. Not sure if it is called anything in particular. My son ate this at a friend's house, and I am surprised as he was a bit of a picky eater at home.
Come git yer mishmosh youngins! xD
That takes me back 😭
Fried bologna potato pancakes for the win.

The pancake idea sounds brilliant. Please make them!
I want to see those pancakes being made. I, the person, call for this to be made!
I support you, the person.
Persons for the persons 😂😂😂
I love you the person
The Person has spoken! If there was some way to get this crisp on the outside, and not fall apart in the pan! Maybe if you let the mixture get cold in the fridge? Who would not eat that?
We the people need this
When I fry bologna I cut a single line from the center to the outside of the circle. This way the slice lays flat in the pan and you get an even fry. Perfect for sandwiches with pickles and mustard.
Yes, this is the best way to do it.
As a native of the the land of processed meat (New Jersey), the best way to do it is to cut four little slits on the edges while it’s still raw. It keeps it mostly flat and makes it perfect for a pork roll sandwich.

I would like to see the fried potato bologna pancakes (or baked!). That sounds pretty good.

Potato pancakes are a thing, and I saw a video where they added bacon to a potato pancake recipe. It looked to die for.
I think the fried potato cakes sounds amazing and I’ll bet this casserole would be great with bread crumbs on top or fried onion that you put on green bean casserole 🤤

Winner, winner, casserole dinner.
It was great, I put in fried bits of left over ham and a package of ranch dressing into the potato. It came out like a twice baked potato without having any skins to deal with.
Wow!
I put Kelbasa in there, instead of the bologna, but I can afford it .There was a time I couldn't. Thanks for what you do, brother.

When I got married, my husband only knew how to fry bologna and scrambled eggs, and he loved to make a bowl of the bologna, and put his eggs in the bowl. I think it was a midwest meal he enjoyed.
"Once you start fiddlin' and boppin' your baloney things go downhill" oh boy.
Made this for supper tonight. It is way too much for an elderly couple such as us. But it was wonderful. Does not taste like bologna and I did not find it overly salty. I added no seasonings at all. I had two helpings and hubby is on his third. Good job.
My dads been busing out "Creative drunk" casseroles recently.... they are interesting..
So it's almost Shepherd's pie-ish. Looks pretty good actually.
Since I am usually cooking just for myself I could definitely eat this about 7-8 different times.

For those who've had savory pancakes before, the potato bologna pancakes probably sound like a good idea. But if all you've had is your typical breakfast pancake, that's gotta sound weird af.
Yes as a person that has had the cakes of pan all my life anything that isn't cake like being called a pan cake is just weird.
Add caramelized onion and powdered red pepper in your pancakes it is the best

Honestly, this looks tasty about all I'd do is add either Cream Cheese or Sour Cream (maybe even both) that would make it good...but not sure if that would technically fit the "On a budget" mentality.
Most people have sour cream on standby

I've been silently following your channel for such a long time now and I have to say... everything you cook looks delicious! I am born and raised in the south so a lot of your cooking style is what I grew up around. I really enjoy your videos, thanks for making them Larry!
Chances are your going to get cancer sooner than later. Eating highly processed garbage food like that for long periods of time takes a toll on your body. You can get mad at me but that’s the truth. Because when that day comes it hits you
Adrian. I work in a cancer hospital and it's not something to joke about or take lightly. Additionally, I train and run marathons year round. If I wanna have biscuits and gravy after one, thats my business. Not his entire channel is processed foods, a lot of it is barbecue and southern style recipes. He actually goes in depth and reads ingredient lists pointing out the poor quality and lack of value in processed foods in more videos than not. Life is a balancing act and you... well, you're just a trolling asshole. If you don't like the content get off the channel ✌
Sam Sam exactly it isn’t something to take lightly. More than not cancer is linked to diet. Southern style recipes and barbecue? That’s more processed meat garbage that comes from factory farms where the animal is under enormous stress and that is cooked at dangerously high temperatures. You shouldn’t be eating meat unless it’s grass feed organic meat.
@@adrianb8446 Jesus Christ you have no idea what a southern style diet is. You're picturing a Lousiana style junk food diet. Just because I eat southern cooking doesn't mean I eat processed meat. You can BBQ/ grill an organic chicken breast too. Clearly you aren't from the south because the locals here know how to cook a hearty meal fresh off the farm. I actually worked at a local farm for 3 years in college. The meat and eggs we had were much fresher than any of your organic bullshit from Walmart. By the way, you want grass fed and grass FINISHED. Grass fed alone means nothing.
I need to stop watching this when I'm hungry cause you make everything look good lol
I like watching these videos even tho I'm not on a budget, It just shows me that you can get decent looking delicious food cheaply And it also shows me that you don't have to spend a lot of money
Those “pancakes” sound awesome! But we use fresh potatoes, and call them “bubble n squeak”! This recipe you are making tho, looks very scrumptious 👍🏼👏🏼
Hope you and your family are doing well Larry ♡
I feel like you are the perfect person to make these videos. I don't have to feed my family on a budget now, but there was a time when I had to eat on a budget, and it is very important to eat a filling meal, even if it's not the healthiest. Also, you should make those pancakes. I would love to see it.
You a real one always love from Japan! Moderation is Key! My American bruddah! 乾杯🍻
I cooked in a nursing facility years ago. One meal we cooked was hot fog casserole. Substitute hotdogs for the chicken or tuna in a noodle casserole with noodles, cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup, onions, celery, peppers, garlic powder, parsley , cheese, salt and pepper to taste. Bake in a oven 350deg 45 min. It became my family's favorite.
My dad whipped up Dad’s Surprise (homemade hamburger helper) a few days back and by the gods it was good even cold left over the next day for lunch... just a bunch of macaroni noodles cooked up and ground beef fried out nicely with your seasonings of choice he combined the two and added two cans of cream soup (your choice of flavour) and let it cook together... it was literally a massive pot full of food tasty and filling for a pretty decent price if I had to guess
You had me at a pound of fried balogna. Fun things I've learned in lockdown, a bacon press works great on balogna.
You can also make little cuts into the edge. It helps stop the curling.

I really like your kind, common sense approach. I hadn’t eaten bologna in years, I recently bought a package, I was surprised how many sandwiches I got from it, and set me thinking of my childhood.
Re: the pancakes. Use panko breadcrumbs or crushed Ritz crackers. That would be the BOMB!!! 🥰
Seems very similar to a latke made the way he wanted to do it.
I added panko on the top to give it a crust on the top. mix panko with the cheese then bake as directed. "crunchi-fication"
Missed you Larry, I hope you and your family are staying well!
Ooooh maaan, this looks so good. I'm sure you could easily add some bacon and even top it with some of those crispy canned onions. Definitely gonna give this a shot! Besides, as far as leftovers go, you can easily take a puck of this and throw it in a skillet and fry it up into little hash brown patties for breakfast.
This reminds me a lot of what I call "mountain man breakfast" which is something I make in a dutch oven while camping. You start off by browning breakfast sausage, and transfer it out and saute some onions, peppers, and mushrooms, and then transfer them out too. Then you go ahead and cook some hashbrowns/cubed potatoes until crispy, add your sausage and veggies, give it a good mix, and add in some raw eggs, preferably scrambled, and top with cheese. You then bake it until the cheese is caramelized and the eggs are done. It feeds a lot of people and is extremely delicious.
I love this series! Frankly, I love all the series you do, but this one is my favorite. I truly appreciate you doing these!
Here an italian speaker.....The italian real name of Bologna is "Mortadella", Bologna is the most famous city in which the Mortadella is made, and the pronunciation is Boloña, so it's not G-N but a type of sound the anglophone are not used to....

Love your money saving recipes. Just recently found your videos. Have made the biscuit dough chicken pot pie, and it was very good. Then made your "Hoover" Stew. It was a hit and tasted even better the next day. I made one little change. I added kale (love the stuff). It added color as well as nutrition, and I will be using that recipe regularly, I'm sure. My Mom used to make fried Balogna gravy, with milk, and served it over biscuits, mashed potatoes, or just toast, if that was all that was on hand at the time. Keep them coming. You had me at fried bologna, it's one of my favorite things from childhood when my dad would always get bologna deli sliced like 3/8" thick, oh my goodness I'm salivating now just thinking about it 🤤🤣🤤🤣
Did something similar with ham. Used carrot, onion, and celery. Added eggs.
Turned out like a potatoy omelette. Topped with American cheese slices.
I buy bologna in a big roll from Kroger, cut into smaller sections and freeze to use as needed. It would be great to cut into small cubes, fry, and use in this recipe. Thanks for the idea.

Looks like a winner Larry! As for the pancakes, HELL'S YEA!! I think they would be delicious! ✌️🙏
I personally would have added a box of chicken broth and a pack of cream cheese. Delicious potato soup 😋 Makes it go a bit farther too.
Hey just in case no one commented this already:
Bologna (Bolonja as far as I know) is an Italian city and was an Italian city state that is said to have invented sausage. They were famous for their finely ground sausages which they later took with them when emigrating to the US of Ale. Which is why as fellow members of the HRE we Germans are also all abuut dad Wurst mein Freundchen.
From Germany (German/mostly Swiss emigrants since like half the Swiss population decided to dump their overcrowded factories and find success in the free Americas) America gets the sausage they eat as sausage (possibly even the hot dog).
These budget meals are perfect for quarantine. I'm going to start trying some out.
4:00 "And add a tablespoon of butter"

Yeah I was thinking the same, looked like half a stick. Lol
That's about 2-3 tablespoons based on the measurements of the wrapper on the butter *breaks down how much of a stick you need to cut for the equivalent of a melted stick of butter*
That was between 1 and 2 tbs... a whole stick is only 4 tbs
@@master0poker84 A whole stick ia 8 tbsp lol
This Meal is Awesome. Instead of Bologna I used Hillshire farm andouille sausage, the instant potatoes were 4 cheese and I used sharp cheese as a mix and a topping. Love this channel! Keep up the good work.

Gwaltney's cheap meats are legit good. I buy 'em all the time. This sounds like a dish I could really enjoy! Thanks for the suggestion! (I'd be inclined to add some celery to the onion and bell pepper, to complete the Holy Trinity!)

When I was little, late 60s early 70s, my mom used to get ring bologna (bo-log-na 😁) and cut it into pieces about 4 inches and then filet them. I dont think this is a great budget recipe. A 5 lbs sack of potatoes is $3 compared to the instant potatoes sitting at about 1lbs for 3 dollars. Similarly, the bologna is very low quality meat. You can get chicken for .59-.79 cents a pound on special which is around 1/3rd the price of the bologna.
