- Shipwreck Skillet Casserole - Cheap 1 Pot Dinner in 30 Minutes - Hard Times - The Hillbilly Kitchen
Shipwreck Skillet is a Hamburger Casserole that you can cook on the stove top without heating the house up. It is a simple, one pot dish that is perfect for any weeknight dinner and you can have on the table in less than 30 minutes. The variations are virtually endless. It's easy, affordable, and delicious. You can make it with the ingredients that you already have on hand. No need for a shopping trip in a specialty food store. This is the kind of meal that I grew up on, and I raised my 4 kids on.

Makes me feel good to see a good ol' country girl who's not embarrassed about her faith in Christ having over 800,000 subscribers.
Encouraging.
Maybe the country hasn't gone down the tubes quite as much it seems👍🏻
Having come out of an abusive relationship. As a bachelor, I'm now needing meals and came upon this and I thank you for your devotional that you put in the middle of your program. Thank you very much. Pray for me as I deal with my recovery and healing from covert, narcissistic abuse and learning to live on my own alone retired at 61.
Mr. Steve, Its been 2 months since you wrote this comment. I pray that life has gotten better for you and you are thriving! God bless💓
I also am older and come from a similar situation as you. Becky has given me some great ideas for cooking for one. She has a quick 2 ingredient spice muffin, that is yummy. I hope you are healing and enjoying your new journey. 😊
Bless you brother God has you and with his lead you will recover to an amazing sense of joy. God will heal you and lead you, look forward for Gods plan in your life. Focus on the Saviour and all will be well. Keep looking up.❤ 🙏
I'm praying for you, Dear Brother. God Bless You Always and continue to be your Strength.✝️❤️🛐

We, here in Europe face the same difficulties as the American people...
I stumbled into this recipe and did some cooking tonight (one person cooking), added some pepper and garlic to it, and it turned out delicious.
Now I have 6 extra portions in the freezer (for later use) and it cost me less than a dollar for a portion.
God bless you, M'lady 😘
God bless you Martinis.Thats a cool name. Its great to hear someone from another country identifying with our culture here in the US.
Thanks for the freezing idea. 🙏
Way to go!
I’m alone …hate cooking for one . Never know what freezes well ..thx for letting me know
Not all of us sound like this lady does, just the sweet Americans that still care for the land and lord❤️ and make the taste buds shout 👑
Bless you! I am flabbergasted. I watched through. Felt like I wanted to speed past the Bible verse. Then felt the need to rewind. And all that you shared, in that part of the video, touched my heart incredibly. I’ve been so down. Felt very worn. But am trying. Praying and praying and doing my best. I came here to see a shipwreck skillet…and yet, what I got was so much more. Actual answered prayers by a real, heartfelt woman sharing honestly and with Grace.
Beautiful expression of Gods love and blessings.
I’m so glad you shared this… it is a sweet “Glory to God!” testament of His amazing ways of love and individualized attention. So happy for His blessings through Becky’s Hillbilly Kitchen Videos!
I tune in to Becky at night sometimes just to hear her voice and message. So soothing to my soul 🙏🏻❤️✝️
Praise the Lord, God bless you for having an open heart to his word! I'm glad Becky is here to help so many.💜💜🙏🙏
@@babzee7111 truth! 💯
I feel very at home in this kitchen, thanks for letting me watch
My mother was a child of the Depression and she raised 8 children of her own on a shoestring budget. Mom always said, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without." Good advice for the times we're in now. Thank you, and God Bless you!
I'm going to write down your Mom's wise saying. It's a good reminder of what we need to be doing in these times ❤️
Mmmmm. My grandmother used to put leftovers from dinner each night into a jar and at the end of the week she would make a soup or stew
Exactly the way I heard the phrase. My grandmother was born in 1900 and had about 7 children. Although technically not part of the Depression of the 20's, with the loss of my grandfather to a roadside accident when my father was 12 years old... the family suffered and was helped by local angels as well. I saw the lessons of my uncles effects of that upbringing often. No waste was a normal lesson.
Thank you for your story also!
Amen!!!
I totally agree.
I love this idea. It reminds me of the way my mother fed a husband and ten children, beginning in 1930 and all the way through the great depression. We ate simple meals but never were we hungry. God provides!
Amen ❣️
That was just beautiful it went straight to my heart
Thank you for that.
I have always loved casseroles.
"god" didn't provide !
Humans did, in whatever
way they could...
" god" was not involved at all !

Becky, We are watching from Israel! I'm from NC and now live in Jerusalem. My girls and I just found found your channel within the last month and we've been cooking your recipes here in the Holy Land! I love that you are getting the food boxes from here and I'll be praying that the Lord would make it possible for you to visit. Maybe you can stay at my house and teach us a few things! ❤
My mom raised 6 kids with only my dad working. She would plan her meals around the meat that was on sale. She always taught me to stock up one week on meat sale/reduced, and the next week buy your pantry items. It's saved me a lot of money with my 4 kiddos.
Thank you for these beautiful struggle meals and the godly encouragement! It is so refreshing to have this fellowship in Christ our Savior! Many abundant blessings to you and your family! CORAM DEO💛🙏
Good to see some latin! I attend a Latin Mass and it's just a beautiful language. Gloria in Excelsis, sister!
I love the name “shipwreck casserole” 🥘 God is so good all the time and His blessings are abundant. I look forward to hearing the verses you share. Many Blessings!
This is the first time I've seen your videos & I can honestly say it's the BEST cooking video by far. THANKS FOR TALKING ABOUT THE LORD.Thanks for making me feel like family

It's easy to get caught up in all the bad things going on right now , we need to be thankful in these hard times even more. This looks so yummy and simple to make. What a great idea to buy ground meat in larger quantity cook it up and divide it to freeze . God Bless and take care.

Becky this looks so good! I'm by myself so I can have this for a few meals. Thank you for your Godly encouragement. And you're awesome recipes 🧡
Me too, bless you Ma'am. 🤠🖖
Yes! I couldn't have said it better.
you can also freeze left overs too so you don't get tired of eating something 3 or 4 times in a row...I use freezer bag's and lay flat to have more room in the freezer. I call them my home made t.v. dinner's they are much better and healthier too. 😉
@@tammyhoushour8070 It's bonus meals!
I often look at a recipe with "is this freezer friendly? " in mind. At the moment, my fridge freezer is full of made-up dishes and I have several dump-and-go bags in my chest freezer. Even though I am single, a freezer is a must for me.
My Mom used to call this clean out the fridge meal! Lol!
She would clean out the fridge and throw it all in a pot and make a delicious stew. That’s what we grew up on!
I never thought to make a casserole out of it.
Thank you Ms Becky for sharing this recipe! God bless you and yours!
My mother kept a thing in the freezer and left over in most times she had 2 one would end up casserole and one would end up soup. When we canned if side had a little bit of this and that it went in a jar for soup.
My granny called it " poor man soup" if you had the stuff
I kept plastic container in freezer and when I cleaned off the supper table if there were leftovers in amounts too small for another meal such as a spoon or two of spaghetti sauce, spoon of corn or green beans I would toss them into my freezer container. When it was enough for a pot of soup, I'd dice up a couple of potatoes, open a can of tomatoe sauce, dump in the container have soup for supper, practically a free meal or 2. (TASTES better than soup made from all new ingredients)
I keep a big bag of frozen mixed veggies to use in dishes like this. I almost always reduce the amount of ground beef and throw in a can of pork & beans. The sauce in the beans adds to the tomato flavor, and the beans of course increase the protein.
Thanks, Becky, for sharing these economical and easy meals, and for sharing your faith...you're a blessing. May the Lord Bless & Keep You, Make His Face to Shine Upon You, and Give You Peace. Amen.
I love pork and beans. I learned from my British friends to bake a potato and top it with pork and beans and a sprinkle of cheese. A very filling main dish that tastes great.
@@happycook6737 has anybody stirred else taken a couple T of parmesan( spaghetti)
cheese and stirred it into pork and beans? Friend taught me this little trick, gives an entirely new taste to things.
@@happycook6737 That sounds really good.
I like the pork and beans idea. While she was making it, I was thinking of what canned beans I could add to stretch it more, not bcos of the cost, but bcos I want to eat less meat and I love beans. I think I will try that just with a little tomato paste, as I’m not crazy about diced tomatoes unless they are in a stew that cooks for a couple hours. Thx for the comment.
@@carblarson8868I’m the same way about diced tomatoes. I usually just buy crushed tomatoes and adjust how much I need to use. But I like the idea of maybe just some tomato paste. Thank you!
Becky, I just came across your channel & I feel so blessed I did. Woman of faith who teaches us how to cook with what you got!! What more can you ask for😉 My grandparents are deceased now but they went thru the depression & I spent alot of time in the kitchen with them. Im blessed bc of that now. Leftover spaghetti sauce? Mini pizzas!
Divide English muffin. Top with a couple dollops of spaghetti sauce, add things like pepperoni, mozzarella cheese. Use whatever you like as Becky says. Just make sure to drain, squeeze out anything that is wet.
Microwave about a minute until cheese is melted. So easy and fast for a singleton.
Oh that sounds so good 👍👍 thank you x

Becky you are such a Proverbs 31 women. Love your recipes & your sharing of God's Word. THANK you
This looks very good, and without knowing I pretty much made the same type of dish last week while camping by throwing together what we brought. I didn't think about the veggies but that would have been good too. I browned a lb of hamburger, an onion, four jalapenos from my garden in my instant pot, then added two boxes of mac n cheese, a can of Rotel medium tomatoes and chiles, and just enough water to cover the noodles. Set the IP to 7 minutes, then added some milk and the cheese mix along with some shredded cheddar. Sprinkled some "Slap Ya Mama" cajun seasoning over it...and wow. :)
I love Slap yer Mama seasoning , use it lots even on top of fried potatoes, in my meatloaf, its just that good!
I love how she's basically talking about how so many of us need to start budgeting now. Everything has went up in price so I love to find recipes where I can throw in our leftovers.

Looks delicious Becky! 😋 I have been through hard times and good times. My grandmother never forgot how terrible the great depression was. She said she always found ways to stretch a buck. As she grew older there were good times but she always lived like a person going through tough times. She was very frugal and so was my mother. I find myself always trying to save money and stretch dinners too. Your frugal recipes are great 👍 thanks
I always say I make the pig squeal! I make those expensive proteins stretch, I don’t have too do that any more, but still do. So thankful my husband eats leftovers. I can’t imagine people not using their leftovers.

My grandmother was the same. It is wise not to be dependent on the things of this fickle world and its money system.
My grandmother never forgot the depression either. We used to giggle at her frugal ways. Now with a family of my own, I appreciate all the tips and tricks that wise woman taught me.
I have so much to be thankful for. A family, food on our table, and a dry roof over our head. But most of all we have God watching over us. Thank you for this good recipe. I make something very similar. All Gods blessings to you Becky. 😍

Thank you, thank you. I really needed to be reminded of that scripture today. I’ve been struggling big time lately with being thankful. Bless you for all you do.
I love your scriptures and encouragement. I think you're going to hear, "Well done, good & faithful servant!"
I would gobble that shipwreck right up!
I just bought some zucchini and yellow squash. That would be good in it too. Anything really.
Thank you for your videos. Love them.
Just awesome we need more people like her
I can’t thank you enough for adding the scripture and talking about being thankful. I’ve just gone through a very tough time after losing my mother and I’m living alone in this big old house by myself. I miss my life of the last 20 years taking care of my parents. I miss them and I miss the life we had together. I started falling into a deep depression and I couldn’t seem to pull myself out of it. But I knew where to turn and I called my church and asked for a counseling session with one of the pastors. talking to him was like talking to my dad and all he did was remind me of God‘s love for me and that He has a plan for me. I know all these things, but yet sometimes we do get discouraged and that’s when our friends need to hold us up in prayer because we are weak sometimes. God has blessed me with some wonderful friends. If I can believe something that seems so ridiculous that someone dying for me tothousand years ago and they know every hair on my head, then it should be nothing difficult than to trust that His word is true! I still have that peace that passes all understanding. Thanks for sharing your faith and your yummy recipes.
THANKS FOR SHARING. JUST BEAUTIFUL
Praying for you, Judith. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
In my opinion, Judith, instead of going to the Preacher and letting them give you a pep-talk. What I would do is look up a Therapist through your health-care provider that can assist you. Maybe, even ask the assistance of a psychologist, because I think that they are the ones who can prescribe medication. You might have clinical depression and it won't just get better by a quick talk from someone in the church, because it will come back and won't improve -- if you don't resolve the chemical imbalance in your brain that has occurred from the external trauma. So, I'm suggesting all of this, because I did same thing as you. And, it kept getting worse. So, deciding to really fix the problem -- instead of just "talking about God's Love" and a temporary "Feel Good" pep-talk, isn't what I needed, because the assistance from the clinical side who have degrees and medical training to really resolve and eliminate the problem.
So, hope you don't take offense. If you want to interact more, just write back. Sincerely, I do hope you get better.
I went thru what you did. Lost my last sister. Now I have no family. I went to a therapist. All it did was break me. I will never do that again. They push pills on you. Coming from a family that pills broke them. No way. I took my Bible out and just started reading. Now I'm going thru stuff and getting rid of junk. I'm cooking making jelly's and jam. And I feel so good. And yes I catch myself calling my sister to ask about a recipe. Than I remember. But I'm gonna be ok. Keep believing in yourself and take walks. God is always there. You don't have to go to a church you can always talk to him. Good luck
i absolutely am in awe watching you use the papertowel or cloth to absorb the grease, i am 81 yrs old and i have never seen anyone but me do that. i had someoneover one day making fun of me telling me he didn't eat paper towels no matter what the ingredients were. l have done this for year, i don't put grease in my sink, i don't have a disposal either. i take all the grease out of all my pans and dishes before they are washed, i don't have stopped up sewers and i have been in the same home since 1973, for a few yeas as the kids got older we had a few problems in the same spot , once i found the problem and showed the kids it never happened again. same in the bathroom, sign on the cabinet door, nothing goes in the toilet but toilet tissue and what comes from you. we can't help being poor but we do not have to be stupid. thank you so much for all the help on feeding us, and remember i can't be the only one that loves that accent.
I make something similar to this, but add cream of mushroom soup and use a can of water so the pasta will soak it up. I also do the same with my ground meat, budget friendly and such a time saver.
I sent this to my son who has 4 kids and is adopting 4 kids all of them under 13. I told my daughter in law this will save her butt guaranteed❣️
Oh my gosh I am so thankful for you today! I needed to hear your scripture today and this meal. Never stop ok and God Bless You!!! Thank you! Thank you so much!!! I am glad that I just clicked in my despair.

This sounds and LOOKS sooo delicious !!! I remember my Mamma making a dish quite the same, but, she did use thin sliced potatoes or rice in it sometimes when we didn't have any boxed Mac & Cheese to use. And, she called it "Garbage Can Stew" or somethin' like that. 😋 It was a funny name, and, we loved eating it when she ever made it when we were kids back in the 70's. Being a family of six, we had to stretch our meals, bunches. I had forgotten about this dish, and, when I watched this video, it brought back so many memories. Also made me wanna make some tomorrow - or as it is, later on today cause I'm up watchin' this at 4:22 AM. (I have insomnia - ARRRGH !!!) TYSM for reminding me of this delicious meal. I appreciate your help and advice. GOD BLESS YOU ALSO !!!
I have been doing a lot of prepping and building up my pantry. All of these recipes are perfect for the food I am buying! Thank you so much! I think this is your calling! God bless you!
Me too! I have a deep pantry now! I bought the foods my Mother used to to keep us fed. Hard time food is comfort food to me. When I was first married I made my husband navy beans and corn bread for supper one night, his question when I serve the food was where is the meat? His family had meat at supper every night, mine ate out of the garden.
@@tommiejones1072 my husband too. He can't imagine a meal without a meat focal point. I made a pot of beans & threw in a piece of smoked brisket from the freezer. Best beans I had ever made. Delicious. Hubs was even happy.
Nice dish :)
For myself, I like to add frozen peas right at the end (of any dish), as they dont really need to cook (just heat through). That way, they stay firm and 'pop-y', keep the green color, and most important, help cool the dish down to eating temp (hot food + frozen peas = warm ready to eat :D )
Cheers

That looks delicious. Reminds of meals at home when I was young. Momma always was mixing stuff together. Lol thanks for sharing love and prayers to you sweet lady. 🥰
Thank you Holy Father for all of your many blessings. Thank you for running water, toilets that flush, central heat and air, food available in our grocery stores, electricity, my eye sight, my ability to walk, the change in the season, flowers, trees , blue and grey skies. Thank you for rain, snow, warm sunny days, and the autumn leaves. Thank you lakes , rivers and streams. Holy Father if we were to list all of your many blessings the list would be endless. Thank you for forgiving me of all of many sins. Thank you Jesus for all that done for me to spare me from Gods righteous judgment. Thank you Father. THANK YOU. THANK YOU , THANK YOU LORD JESUS, MY GOD AND SAVIOR
I make something similar and use rice instead of pasta. I am so thankful for coming across your video. God has blessed me and my family. We have our health, a roof over our heads and are employed. Not every one is this blessed.
Thank you so much for this recipe. I made it last night (we like seasoned foods, so I used Salsa lizano and Wegman's everything but the bagel and water with Maggi powdered chicken bullion)...my husband, who is not a fan of hamburger, ate 2/3rd of the large skillet. I had thought I would have this for a couple of days, but my son and husband just finished it off along with their breakfast. Shipwrecked is a huge win.
You are exactly right. Just to have a roof over your head is a blessing and it’s all around us. 🙏🏻 God bless you Becky and everyone else who is struggling now.
I just recently discovered this channel and I am absolutely loving these recipes. This is definitely something I could just throw together with what I already have in my kitchen. ❤️
Thank you so much for always reminding me that God is in control and loves us through everything!! May you always know the Peace of God!! Bless you!!
Becky that is so cool when you pulled out the red spice. I have it as well. I had gotten those Isreal packs for about a year. I had to quit a couple of months ago as I cant afford them anymore. But they are so interesting, I loved mine. It really was fun to almost feel like a tourist to get their products. I am glad that you are advertising for them. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks!
I love your videos…..growing up on tomato gravy and biscuits from scratch…. One pot dishes… yummy
How do you make tomato gravy?
As you were talking about trusting God, the lyrics of the song, Through It All, came to my mind. The last line of the chorus is, I've learned to depend upon His Word". Yes! We need to depend on Him and His Word! Thanks for the reminder and the recipe.
TY for your wonderful recipes, your Scripture messages and your delightful pearls of wisdom! You are such a sweet blessing❤
Becky, I love this so much, every single one of your recipes are wonderful for such hard times! I always feel so blessed just watching and listening to you. 🙌 The Scripture verses, your shared faith, how calming you are in these times. Thank you so much for being such a blessing! 🙏❤️🙏
all it took for me was the names on the recipes. I grew up the last child of ten. my momma was a wizard in the kitchen. I still love good home cooking and I have developed the talent of combining new ingredients in a pinch and making great new dishes. I'm sold. lol.
Amen! 💗
I love this recipe....seems very versatile with the variations you can do with meat and veggies. Also, love how you share your faith, it is so very encouraging. You, Becky, are a treasure....I am blessed to have found this channel. Love all your recipes. Thanks again!! I will be experimenting with this recipe for sure!!
@Debbie Reitmulder, I totally AGREE. She is a BLESSING to us.
Thanks for being a sharing Christian!!
First time seeing this lady (4/20/24). I needed this today! Currently struggling! So happy I saw this today!
It's been a little while back that I finally realized just how blessed I am. I fall short of being truely grateful for all I have been given and have.
Made this for supper tonight, we all loved it! This recipe is a keeper.
For anyone who is buying the canned tomatos, please watch your sodium content on the side of the container. A lot of brands seem to think they need to drown the juice inside with salt. It makes a big difference to your flavor, aside from being not very healthful. I have made this sort of recipe before, Becky. So glad you shared it. I usually keep at least one diced frozen onion and a few mixed colors of diced bell peppers in the freezer to add to anything I'm making. They add nutrients, flavor and body to the meals. Hugs!
Yes, and please watch your canned beans for excessive sodium as well, some have astronomical amounts, and others very little!
Thank you for sharing the Lord and counting blessings! You are so right miss Becky. I Thank God for everything, the good & the not so good. Everything is a learning experience from our Lord! God ess you & your family Miss Becky! 🙏❤️🌹
May our Father Bless & Keep you safe! You are such a blessing to us all! Prayers for you always, in great gratitude for you❤️🙏
I have to tell you thank you especially for this recipe specifically as well as a few others. I have a young child with autism who has many food aversions. He and my other kiddos watch your recipes along with me. He saw this one and the Hoover Stew and was like, “Yumm !”
He was impressed and loves it ! I praise God for every food win I come across. But I have to give credit where it’s due. So a very big
Thank You !
I’m gona try this for my son with autism
Thank you!!! I was planning on spaghetti tonight, but this sounds great and I have Mac and cheese on hand!!! God’s richest blessings to you, Becky!!!!💗
I miss my Mother so. I see her in all the comments. Bless you and yours around your table.
Thankyou! This is better than “hamburger helper”!
This also works well for our Sabbath group shared meals, as there are 25 young children under 10yrs old. ☺️ 6:55
Made this for dinner tonight. Wow, it was really good for a low cost meal. Yum! I enjoy learning from you. My grandparents died when I was young and my mother was a nurse, so we had tons of box dinners. Thank you for all that you have taught me in how to cook from scratch. It really is pretty simple. God bless you. 💕
Thank you ,it's what's for supper tonight!!!
Bless you for sharing the WORD with your meals. There is no way that meal would feed us all but I know a man who can. HalleluYAH. Be blessed
Becky, watchin you is like going home. My mother was the product of the depression and food like this is what I was raised on. Somethin else, I was probably about 4 before I figered out that not everbody talks like that! Bless you
