"From lemons to ham, salt is a handy food preservative." Man, that article knows what's up. Can't get enough of those SALTY lemons.
@Fun With Minerals Brine lemons sounds like some kind of final fantasy enemy.
I think it may be a reference to putting salt on a lemon wedge, taking a shot of tequila, and eating the salted lemon. Or maybe thats just me
@Fun With Minerals Did you meant "troglodyte?" A Luddite is someone against technological advances
Popular Vietnamese soda flavor is salted lime. Similar thing here
Just need the tequilla now!
That "sexy bin" story brings a new meaning to "talk dirty to me".
More like trash talk.
HA!
8:45 I have a cousin who briefly owned a cow they named Cena.
The 'briefly' part makes more sense when you realize _cena_ is Spanish for "dinner"
"Your time is up, my time is now"
Well, apparently in this case, Cena's time was up. :-X
â€are we too dumb to cover this?â€
Me: remembering the article about chesse nailpolish which they never read a single word of... Nah you’re probably fine
"I'd love to go have tea with your mother" I'm f****** DEAD
I wonder if any tangents will be animated, like ye olde YoGPod
Ye olde ye olde goonsquad
Most of the animated podcast clips I have seen were made by fans, not the people in the original clips. You either have to get luck and someone posts the animation you wanted on the subreddit, or you make it yourself.
Where's Fred Malm, then?
There was one a fan made that they posted to their twitter
Wonder what happened to Fred malm
Simon and Lewis are a massively underrated comedy duo.
The phrase "Nightmare Blair Witch Humpty Dumpty" is officially my new favorite thing. 5:50
The automaton uprising will begin when bins are forced to say “chuck your muck in to meâ€
Regarding the salt, Lewis could be discussing one of two things: one, the Great Dying, which separated the Permian and Triassic periods about 250 million years ago; or two, and the more likely one in my opinion, he's mistaking it for the Cambrian Explosion, when life went absolutely crazy in the oceans about 530-540 million years ago. Only about 300 million years between those two.
well they're both in the past innit
@@lotoreo You've got me there!
He definitely meant the Permian-Triassic extinction event, and that vague memory was triggered by hearing the word Permian - what with him talking about extinction and it being the largest extinction event ever, by far surpassing the extinction of the dinosaurs, at the end of the Cretaceous, with 90% of all life on earth dying out in the P-T extinction (wiping out giant swathes of evolution and taking ages to recover) vs 50% at the end of the age of dinosaurs. The silly thing is that the article is saying this 'life' is 800-ought million years old, but then there's summat about Permian salt which as an era was much, much more recent than 800+ mya.
The most interesting thing I could see coming out of this though, is - if that air is actually trapped from that long ago - they could capture a true sample of atmosphere from that era and what concentrations of which gases it consisted of, and compare it to theories.
We had those same rubbish bins in Denmark, But it made a Crunching noise, as if it was eating it instead, My younger siblings loved them xD
I’m starting to think that it’s when there’s an episode where they *don’t* have a collective stroke that we should be worried
I think Lewis means sulphur-*consuming* life forms, not sulphur-*based*. Simon is right, I don't think sulphur could possibly replace carbon as one of the core building blocks of life, but I do think those oceanic vent microorganisms can metabolise sulphur compounds, or something like that.
Yeah. I thought it was common knowledge that sulphur metabolizing bacteria exist.
AFAIK the whole silicon replacing carbon thing is like early 20th century thought experiment stuff, but not likely actually feasible. IIRC, there was found "arsenic-based life" in the sense that it used arsenic like phosphorous in its DNA backbone? That's similar to the silicon-life concept in how they relate on the periodic table
For anyone wondering about the salt crystal section.
Earth formed about 4.5 billion years ago and life appeared as soon as it could’ve. With estimates putting it as early as 4.3 billion yrs ago. But this first genesis didn’t survive the heavy bombard of 3.8~ billion yrs ago. It’s theorized that life either first formed in warm tidal pools like Lewis said, or the ocean bottom hydrothermic vents. Heat + Chemicals + Time = Life
Also the Permian period was from 290 million years to 250 million years ago with the dividing line being the Permian mass extinction at the end of it. 90% of all life of the earth was killed off which is why it’s given the name of “The Great Dyingâ€.
Lewis went 'it predates life' and 'this was before DNA.' No Lewis, Therapsids were the dominant life on land, there weren't quite mammals or dinosaurs yet but life wasn't so different at that point.
@@cameronwilsey9334 He was talking about viruses, no?
You can generate energy from processing sulfur compounds and still be a carbon based lifeform, that just means most of the organism's building blocks are made from carbon. Simon is right, it's mostly silicon (and germanium) that are proposed as an alternative to carbon, although their inability to form long, stable chains poses some problems for that theory
If I ever get so lonely and comfortable in my life I keep a potato in my freezer for 5 years because it's smiling, I hope someone would put me out of my misery.
I won't keep a potato if I get lonely, I'll travel to sweden and pick up trash
Put me out of my misery, I haven’t done anything wrong but everyone else has.
That Lorry Briggs isn't lonely, she's married. The article mentions her husband.
Just a heads up! There are "male" voice versions of the bin as well, the one in the video is female.
I hope the bin is clearly marked as to whether it's a male or female version. (ಠ_ಠ)
Did you just assume that bin's gender
Lewis shows, his huge range of impressions, doing both Wheel-Boy and D. Beckham---
AT THE SAME TIME !!!
Those CGI effects, so good that the Corridor Crew needs to talk about them on their couch.
We all know lewis laughed at a "spoonful of c*m" because he was thinking of saying it too lmao
If Simon has a twin does that make his twin the filly filly hole man?
Sounds like we found Simon's porn name
Together they build foundations for homes
"I am a giant and I'm filling a hole,
Filly filly hole, fiiiiiiling a hole."
Sound like his twin brother is living a more exciting life. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Woman
I feel like that's a Heston Blumenthal cooking tip waiting to happen: Freeze your potatoes for 5 years for the best chips.
I decided to look it up, and there was the Permian-Triassic extinction event that caused 81% marine species and 70% terrestrial vertebrate species go extinct. For example Trilobites went extinct during that, so good job vaguely remembering that Lewis
So if children throw away trash, the parents have to talk about the birds and the bees when they get back home XD
Man I tried to cut a frozen cake once, I broke the knife in half.
"It's pronounced Chip... Chip... Chippenham..."
I don't think it is mate!!! 🤣🤣
Boi I haven't watched you guy's stuff in years. It's very nice to hear you guy's voices again.
Just FYI they did try having it say nice things like "thank you for helping nature" at first, BUT IT DIDNT WORK!
I heard that the algorithm likes exclamation points! It makes it think I care a lot! And I do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look how much I care!!!
When Simon was coming up with things a sexy man bin would say, I genuinely had trouble maintaining composure at this airport I’m waiting in
loved it as always. Thanks guys
As Karl Pilkington would say “Get ya knickers offâ€
The convos these two have are always super funny. LMAO
I want to hear more of Lewis’ thoughts on “pre-DNA†life 😂
First I listen to the pod and then I watch the video to se wtf they talk about. 😂 dubble the fun
Oh man, 11:00 was the perfect opportunity for a The Picture of Dorian Gray reference..
Simon and Lewis: Masters of Seduction.
Isn't this the 3rd time Simon has said "What's it called, Pareidolia?",
on this podcast?
I once dated a fly that could only get turned on by trash
I wonder what tea Lewis is drinking.
Inquiring Yognauts need to know!!

Mushroom Tea
Happy Friday/Saturday y’all!!
Holy shit your still active! Goddam its been such a long time. But you guys will still be heros for me thank you for all the fun content you have made. It made me to who i am today.

Love the modern yogpod that is peculiar portions :)
Simon needs to see the film Malignant 😅
Yes Simon, we all have that twin in us. It's called our belly.
Kära nån ... 😅
Whenever English people try to pronounce a Swedish word they seem to instantly
turn into cavemen or lose control over several parts of their voice box, and it's hilarious😆
So long George and thanks for all the sausages
As someone studying science at university. I am loving these scientific discussions.
You know, I'm something of a scientist myself
That potato is like a Dark Souls boss. Peter the Frozen Starch Lord
Fastest I have ever caught one of these haha. These podcasts are always a great listen when riding to and from work.
will forever love you guys miss old minecraft days yogs labs thank you for making my child hood
I need a Simon Lane/Rich Evans crossover event.
Boy am I glad that I switched from speakers to headphones before the bin thing happened.
I think.. Simon's voice is what I hear when I read text in english in my head. (I'm german.)
Simon talking about The Dark Half reminds me a lot of that movie Malignant 🤔
_"I LOVE Mike Bricks!"_
that potato reminds me of a bhelit from berserk
In another swedish city called växjö the trashcans sound like small children. In the middle of the night it is very scarry, It can make you cold sweat. Just hearing 4 year olds when you trow away trash.
I love Peculiar Portions, please carry on making these!
I had heard about the bin story myself just a few days ago, but had no idea how it would be received by a couple of brits.
lets just say Simons face is the price at the end of a million mile race (13:56).
perfect balance of scared and choked.
Now we need Crab News.
Crab news, for Crab people.
the bins actually do have male voice versions/lines already
They found one of em alien crystals they did!
"I like science!" - Lewis Brindley, Chemist
The potato is just Yoko Taro from Nier
Hey unrealated question but why are you old songs like diggy diggy hole and moon quest no longer in spotify i was really sad seeing that as there my two fav songs
Completely irrelevant, but Lewis' outfit this episode is 👌
I love this podcast. It's like YogPod never lost its magic :)
Life started pretty much as soon as the planet cooled down.
Lewis kinda says Tjøbenhavn like a Bornholmer would say it, very nice.
how to sounds sexy as a man: “So tell me about your day.â€
best CGI i've ever seen!
Why don't they plant the potato, so The Spudman can grow.
I have no trouble eating things that I've named, I've personally named every yeast colony I've made into bread and I have no trouble getting a nice piece of toast
Psychopath
3:40 hahaha
Boffbins 😂
Yay potatoes in the news
24:29 Are you saying it is perm-eated with water? ;p
the 'woman on the telly' aka Lori looks a little like Mia Austin if anyone was wondering or... you know... science
My parents friends who had pigs in there garden... The pigs were called lunch and dinner... So the kids never got the wrong idea a out them being pets!
WOOOO!
…I live in Parker, Colorado. Small world
i can’t believe how spot on simon was by knowing lewis didn’t want to say what the potato lady looks like because he was thinking of a porn actress
15:52 Dunno … It would me discourage to use it. Because I think I would end up on another list … (face it, if you aren't at least on one, you probably not having a pulse)
damn mr potatohead really let himself go.....
Is that older bouph in the picture with potato
31:11, on a loop, forever.
simon wen are you gonna play some games with yogcast? been ages
There are some bacteria that feed on sulfur
Sulfur-based organisms don’t exist but there are a few that breathe sulfur. Mostly microorganisms though. Possibly what ol brewis meant
I wish lewis would do another Minecraft series
Life on earth started over 3b years ago
I've been away from thd yogscast for a bit now when did Lewis cut his hair? ?
Laurie Bricks and Michael Bricks? so Lorry and Micky Bricks?
That seductively talking maning public litter bin is right up there with "Talky Toaster" from _Red Dwarf_ (the 1980s British scifi series). But Talky Toaster was thankfully fictional. And had a male voice.
6:20 Looks like Boba
sulphur based bacteria does infact exist
