  • Every bathroom in America probably had these at one time if not currently. When updating your bathroom you probably will remove them and have holes behind them to fix.
    In this video we show you how to fix those holes with blowout patches or California patches as some people call them.

    Great video! My daughter just broke my ceramic towel bar exactly like your video. My question is do you now install the new towel bar? And if I wanted to put the same ceramic one, how do u do that?

    • @finaltouchdrywall
      @finaltouchdrywall  Před 3 lety +3

      Thanks. Those things are very easy to pull out. They are like a piece of tile. Once the wall is patched, you can install a new one. Usually it’s installed with anchors and screws. To install the ceramic one back in, you can you tile mastic from Home Depot and assemble it on the wall and use tape to secure it to the wall till it drys. Hope that helps

    Great video! I'm so over looking at these ceramic towel holders... Question.. do you allow the mud to dry between coats or do you apply the second and if needed 3rd coat while the mud is still wet?

    • @finaltouchdrywall
      @finaltouchdrywall  Před 2 lety +2

      I use fast set mud. It doesn’t dry all the way but it sets up so you can apply second or third coats. It’s the bag stuff you mix

      Small pieces of 1/2 inch drywall, I used Sheetrock 20 min mud, and the texture was regular drywall mud mixed with water soupy. 10 inch drywall knife, pan, hopper with small tip and air compressor. Hope that helps.

      They sell cans of orange peel for texture at Home Depot or sherwin Williams.

  • @wcgl5595

    is that actually a piece of drywall? does it come in small pieces like that or did you have a full sheet of drywall and you just cut pieces off?

    • @finaltouchdrywall
      @finaltouchdrywall  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes it’s cut off a sheet of drywall. You can’t buy small pieces like that. The smallest they sell is 2x2. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

  • @ev271
    @ev271 Před 2 lety

    What is the orange peel part (just to add texture?) and can it all just be painted and look okay without that part?

    • @finaltouchdrywall
      @finaltouchdrywall  Před 2 lety +1

      If it is textured like orange peel it needs to be. If not it won’t match.

    • @windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823
      @windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Před rokem

      @@finaltouchdrywallWhile we're at it, if you use cheap paint, it won't match, either. Use Behr's Marquee. Yes, it's expensive, but it ABSOLUTELY will match perfectly. Not as expensive as Sherwin Williams, tho! It's very forgiving. Dutch Boy is inordinately hard to make it cover with.

    Aren't these the type that slide onto a track that's mounted first? Just score the adhesive edge, and push them up, to guide off the track. I may be wrong.

  • @trevenscott8833

    Sorry, dumb electrician here. I was taught that a blowout patch started with screwing a piece of wood behind the hole into the remaining drywall, and then screwing the patch into the wood. Is that not necessary?

    What do you do if the ceramic bar is on ceramic tile from the 70's?? I can show a picture if you'd like.

    • @finaltouchdrywall
      @finaltouchdrywall  Před 2 lety

      The tile is a little trickier. That you can’t do the same unless you replace the tile or at least the one piece but you won’t find anything from the 70’s

    • @windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823
      @windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Před rokem

      @@finaltouchdrywallIf it's that disgusting black mastic they used on flooring, I hear it comes off with water if it sits. It does NOT come off any other way that I know of.
      I say that, because cheap people would grab that nasty stuff when someone left it in the basement from 20 years ago.
      Downside? It's LOADED with asbestos. Like 70%! You DO NOT want to inhale it.
      If you keep it wet and don't try to scrape it, it shouldn't be too bad, tho. Circulate air right outside, and leave the HVAC vents covered. You also don't want it through the HVAC system. It might take 5 years to get it out of there.
      Most manly men would just rip it right off, but that's a bad idea. Be real, REAL careful if you're not sure what it is. It can be tested for cheap, tho.
      Don't bother scraping it. A, even a blowtorch won't get it off (asbestos doesn't burn, remember...) and B, stupid people (me) have already tried it. It's NOT coming off.
