Some of these are horrible. How are they “The best of all time”?
Vogue was compensated by designers.
I think it’s more so a list of who’s publicist has the most connections to the writers at Vogue…
I'm over the sheer skirt styles. Bring back glamour--loved Grace Kelly!
I wouldn’t mind sheer skirts if it had a nude lining and I can’t see underwear.
She was so classy and stunningly beautiful. So tragic what happened to her.
Agree!
Anything Audrey Hepburn wore was amazing
That one Beebs showed actually had a bare tummy!
Audrey put Givency on the map!
She was class!
Most of these look like Vogue just threw dress pics in a hat and picked. Most of these belong on the Worst Oscar Dresses of all time.
Beebs, you should make your own list.
Yeesss, I was thinking the same thing 😊😊😊
Yes absolutely!
👍👍👍
Totally agree ❤❤
Yes please 😁
Amazed that they went as far back as the Oscar's dress that Grace Kelly wore. Edith Head , the designer was my favourite film costume designer. She was truly a wonderful talent.
So many decades of Oscar’s were completely ignored! Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly can’t be the only two from the classic era of Hollywood that made it on the list. Tragic
Now, Nicole Kidman is one of the few people who can rock chartreuse!! Her very fair skin and red hair, perfectly styled as usual for her. Perfect!
I agree! Redheads can pull it off.
I didn't like the bodice on that dress though but the colour was lovely.
I do remember Elizabeth Taylor's lavender dress from 1970, probably because it matched her eyes and she always wore gorgeous necklaces.
The best part of awards shows was Joan Rivers in Fashion Police. I couldn't wait for it to come on and I still miss it. Nobody did it better than Joan and I still miss her. Her daughter did a review this year and she was good. I found her here on CZcams and will look for her again.
I think they were a bit lazy doing research. They failed to mention any of the classic Oscar looks from years gone by. What a shame.
Uma looked like a school marm. Not terribly impressed with this list.
I wanna see YOUR best list, Beebs!!
I would wear Uma’s outfit to work.
This outfit gave me Victorian Governess uniform vibes!
@@karendarosa7032 yes! It would be so cute with brogues. I just love this look on her. If the blouse was a more delicate or sheer fabric… perfection. ❤️❤️❤️ The gorgeous Governess.
Zendaya can do no wrong in her outfits. They are all perfection.
She looked lovely.
I don't know, that brown thing looked like drizzled you know what.
I think this list would have been better labeled as “biggest Oscar statement dresses” because most of these dresses were definitely statements, for better or worse (lookin at you, Bjork). Though, they would have needed to have included Cher’s black Oscars outfit on that list, because that was THE statement.
15:37 If you zoom in on the floor behind Björk, it looks like the swan made a turd on the red carpet. I’m dying! 😂
🤣🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
It was an egg. Love that dress. It was so fun and very Bjork. I would have expected nothing less.
@@phantomthread4385 I agree😁👍🏼 Very Bjørk and I LOVED it😄❤!
@@phantomthread4385 cutest reply ever ❤️❤️
I LOVE Lupita’s ice blue dress. It’s gorgeous on her dark skin. Simple style. It’s made for her!
No to Rihanna.
Agree. Not nice for a pregnancy dress, seems tacky with that belly button while an exposed tummy is not a great look at these events no matter if person is pregnant or not. I wore clothing to keep baby warm and sort of protected while I looked like I had some class. Did not need to advertise in a big way.
The bra type piece inside the bodice makes her look like she has four breasts. Yike. Too tight.
To me it screams bdsm. Certainly not expectant mother.
Not a fan of this one at all.
When I saw the gathering/wrinkling under her belly I instantly thought "wrinkly, elephant skin."
I think it way a way to kill rumors like here’s the proof, goddess energy. But also edgy and admitting it sucks, not sugarcoating it.
Vogue likes to kiss Rihanna’s ass. I don’t get it.
It’s so strange how 80 percent of the dress selections are from the last 15 years. The Oscars have nearly 100 years of history so that’s disappointing they ignored it
Women wearing necklaces hanging down their backs began in the 1930s when evening dresses were very slinky, bias cut, with plunging low backs.
Does anyone else think Zendaya looks like a young Catherine Zeta Jones?
Yes, I thought that it was CZJ at first.
Lupita, Nicole Kidman, and Natalie Portman bring it every year. Always the most classic.
Halle Berry 2002, Julia Robert’s 2001, Lupita Nyong’o 2014, Sandra Bullock 2009, Jennifer Lawrence 2013, Gwyneth Paltrow 1999…..These aren’t in any order, Beebs. Just a few of the dresses that I admired in current Oscar history…..I’m sure there are more! If we could only add Princess Catherine in that Gold dress! All would be well ! 😊😊😊❤❤❤
It's obviously "best dresses of the last few years". What about the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s? I'll bet there are some elegant gems there, knocking recent offerings into a cocked hat.
The problem there is finding the pictures. Most are in black & white & usually not posed. "The Red Carpet" wasn't much of a thing for photography at the time.
My eyes popped out of my head when I saw Nicole Kidman in that chartreuse Dior. The best ever.
Gemma Chan looks like she's drowning in candy floss.
Looks like a pink parachute.
Very frumpy
Love Sharon Stone. Yes, bigger earrings!
Zendaya and Lupita Nyongo can do no wrong, they look good in everything!
Pity Zendaya is actually quite nasty in the flesh. She is so up herself
Completely agree that Bjork should not be on the list. Also agree about Cher, pretty dress but definitely more performance edged.
Anything Audrey Hepburn wore was beautiful.
Most of these dresses were from this century. I'm sure there are photos from earlier Oscar's to showcase those gowns. The jumpsuit that Barbra Streisand wore was sheer and she wore a flesh toned bodysuit underneath. It really caused a stir because it was a jumpsuit and sheer. People did not realize that Barbra was wearing a bodysuit. All of Cher's outfits by Mackie were costumes to shock the Acadamy with huge headpieces and a lot of skin. Rita Moreno in 2016 wore a reworked gown of the dress she wore in 1962 when she won.
A lot of the styles that make the best dressed in the last 20-30 years could have been on the red carpet in early Hollywood but the modernizing of some of them end up making them look trashy.
I'm thinking that Barbra wore that as a nod to her movie "What's New, Pussycat?"
The movie where she wore a bra with hands on the cups lol
I didn't see it, but my mom loved it.
@@flyonthewall8122 Ooh! You might be right.
The last time I vacationed in Boston (2011), on the night of the week when they stayed open late, I eagerly stopped in and spent many happy hours wandering the hallowed rooms of the Museum Of Fine Arts. One of their special exhibitions was of Scaasi couture creations, and the (in)famous Streisand see-through pantsuit was one of the stars of the show. It looked so tiny, like she must have been about a size minus-four!
@merriemisfit8406
In 1969, she answered questions about herself in a tell-all called "This is Me!"
She said she was 5'5" & weighed 110lbs. so not a big woman at all.
The Jennifer Lawrence is one of my all-time favorites! Absolutely gorgeous, and she has the height, looks, and presence to pull it off. Really loving these videos, Beebs!
I love love your reaction to these dresses. I wouldn't awear some of these in a Halloween party.😂😂😂😂
I really liked Kate Winslet's and Sandra Bullock's Oscar winning night dresses, strangely didn't make the list.
No on the Uma Therman black and white!
Beebs, have you done a video on your favorite all time Oscar dresses?
She has not & we need to start begging her lol
5:24 : I wonder if, when Uma showed up anybody tried to direct her to the entrance for the pit orchestra members.
@@merriemisfit8406
😂👍😂
I loved Hillary Swank’s backless dress!
Yes! She looked incredible in that dress ❤
Jessica Alba in the gold dress is simply stunning!
I would love to see Beeb's Best Oscars Dresses of All Time List!!
No "statement" pieces or controversial outfits like those in this Vogue's list , but just beautiful dresses
RIP Vogue. They cannot be trusted to have taste.
anna wintour needs to retire. truly.
@@user-hv9om8gq8x I agree.
Donald Sutherland with Jane Fonda. His tux is great. I remember several of those old ones. Audrey can do no wrong. ❤
I love how all the people in the background of Jessica Alba's photo are green with envy. It's so obvious.
Love your work Beebs-you are my favorite fashion commentator! Would you consider doing fashion reviews on other royal ladies? Thanks❤
Thank you Beebs. I would love you to do a review just covering Edith Head's designs. Pleeeeeeeeeeeese. :)
will you pick your best Oscar dresses of all time and show us. there are so many to choose from
Yes, Zendeya!!!
I was honestly so surprised how much I LOVED her dress this year. Then I really took a long look, over many photos, and I completely get it now lol. It's a great example of excellent use of texture and form. It fits her perfectly. I might prefer the pink color of fabric to be another shade, silk?, I'm not too familiar with fabrics besides the basics but whatever it is, it's beautiful. But maybe another shade would've worked better with the gunmetal sparkle dream of the second fabric! I don't know what that is either lol, but it's also so stunning! ❤❤❤
Most memorable?
What about Liz Taylor's 1961 Christian Dior floral gown. Geena Davis 1990 stunningly red gown, Meryl Streep 2017, Goldie Hawn 1989. There have been some absolutely stunning gowns that weren't even mentioned. Comparing those with just some of the one that were
"stated best", did they actually do research of past gowns?
You included my two favorite Oscar dresses of all time! I remember Mila Kunis’ lavender dress made my jaw drop when I saw it on the red carpet, and it still wows me every time I see it. Also, Nicole Kidman’s chartreuse embroidered dress still looks fantastic 30 years later. The picture Vogue used unfortunately didn’t do justice to that beautiful color.
Completely agress! Those are two of my favorite dresses of all time. Gorgeous!
What a lovely trip down memory lane, and I agree that some weren't the best of all time, maybe they meant something like "of the time" which is absolutely different (ie, Grace Kelly's look, timeless).
My top two are easy. Grace Kelly who made anything look stunning and that lovely lady in the silver dress with the beautiful hood, what really finished it off for me was the incredibly simple but stunning choker she wore that matched the sparkle of the dress to perfection and was beautiful just peeping out at the base of her throat between the folds of the hood.
I loved Sharon Stone audacity with her simple white shirt and that magnificent skirt, beautiful. I'm surprised they didn't mention Ali Mcgraw, she always was the icon of her time (early 70ies). I'm obsessed with her style, she can do no wrong. I saw pictures of her dress at the 1972 premiere of The Godfather... stunning : a total black look, sheer top, no bra, vintage onyx broochs and a crown of black feathers, a coat of black feathers, a long etheral skirt... You could do a serie of videos about the icons of their time and why they were icon ! Ali Mcgraw, Jane Birkin, Robert Redford (how is it possible that if a man today dresses like him in the "3 days of the condor", 50 years ago, it will still be very classy/casual ?)
Yes, Ali Mcgraw and Faye Dunaway
With dresses representing Oscars since the 1920’s to choose from, they obviously didn’t consider many which would have eclipsed most of those they showed.
Lupita and Zendaya have so many wins. Both stunning!
I love Ellie Saab!
Edith Head is the 'Best Designer Ever' the wedding dress she designed for Grace Kelly is the, imo, absolute most beautiful, elegant, and classy wedding dress ever!
I think you were being generous when you said half. Love your commentary.
I agree! It was more like a third. Which is fine with me! I tend to agree with Beebs, but most of all I like how she has reasons for her opinions.
Do review of Oscar s from the 40s, 50s and 60s. The comparison of then and today would be interesting.
I know these celebrities have fittings and take pictures to see how the gown will photograph and then they must have access to a stylist who can recommend appropriate undergarments and jewelry. Your opinions remind me of my Mom and Grandmother watching award shows in the nineties. Both of them sewed, especially my Mother who sewed for others, and they critiqued the gowns without mercy. The lack of shape wear, appropriate lining or fabric that wrinkled terribly would certainly catch their eye.
Uma Thurman's outfit looked like ever Victorian female schoolteacher.
I met Edith Head in my youth, I still have several of her patterns, signed by her, what a talented lady, overlooked by so many today, you have no idea how amazing she was.
Julia Robert's vintage gown. hands down.
I adore the white Tom Ford outfit that Gwyneth Paltrow wore at the 2012 Oscars. Stunningly simple and elegant - one of my all time favourites!
This was so fun! I think the 1950's style is the BEST!!
Love your commentary on all the dresses
Beebs, you should do a video with the Oscars outfits YOU think are the best of all time.
Totally agree with all your comments. Can you do your best Oscars dresses / outfits?
That pink dress at the beginning looked like she was late and wore her bead-spread, Cher looked as if she was coming straight from an afternoon lazing by the pool. I agreed with you in the majority of your assessment because you have a very keen eye for fashion and beauty. Thank you for a fun post 💕💕
Oh Gwyneth, you look gorgeous.
I pronounce them "Woman and Dress!" Talk about made for each other!
What about Julia Robert’s vintage black and white Valentino gown or Angelina’s “leg “ dress? They were moments for sure
Beebs PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can you do a series about Oscar dresses through the decades 🙏 dresses in the 50s, 60s, 70s, etc ❤❤❤
I guess they have forgotten about old hollywood - the time when elegant dresses were the norm. I would pick about 6 or 7 of those shown and look back even if the films and photos are in black and white to pick from the golden years of real movie stars.
Fay Dunaway's Theodora Von Runkle's dress-she had designed all the clothing for various films, including Bonnie and Clyde, and that started a trend for midi length skirts and berets (very streamlined and clean silhouettes as opposed to the hippie/romantic/relaxed type style that had been popular for years. So the dress marked a turning point for fashion, created by Theodora and popularised by Fay. It was also a bit unusual in being all black-that wasn't so common in the early 70s.
Uma’sdress reminds me of what i had to wear in our school choir Christmas performance
I would love to see the glamour from old Hollywood where all the stars dressed to perfection or some of the queen's old ballgowns where she wore tiaras. Loved this but not many of the dresses.
After this, I would love you to do your best Oscars dresses of all times! Please! Nicole Kidman’s two dresses are probably my favourites.
These lists always skew to more recent. 😊
Hahaha, your commentary had me laughing so hard!! Love it and agree with you on all of them!! “Just no” 😂
The Bork dress is iconic. Everyone still talks about it.
I love the mustard yellow dress that Cate Blanchett wore - I generally hate the colour but that was perfection on her!
The amount of time you out ito this is mind boggling !!!! Ad always on Point ! LoveLove Love ❤❤❤
In my opinion, you should have taken the year the dress was from.... the 60s and 70s were a very different fashion era 😊
Zendaya’s looks is a modern version of the Sharon Stone Gap shirt/Wang skirt.
I thought the same thing
I thought so, too. And it was funny that Uma Thurman was the next one, who wasn't channeling Stone at all, she was cosplaying as a waitress!
Hey, Beebs 🌞
You’ve got me thinking about and looking at “under wear”. I still wear slips & slip shorts with all my dresses. 😄
Zendaya knows how to or has someone who does, put it all together well … dress, color, accessories and hair 👏👍🏼
It seems "best" does not mean "most beautiful" as we intepret it. Many of these are just awful! The white cotton shirt with fancy skirt was just ugly. Props to Natalie Portman and Zendaya who always get it right.
I wonder if other factors were in play...like were they winners, popular or just infamous at that particular point in time.
Love your commentary Beebs!
Hi Beebs - if you could design a dress for the oscars what would it look like? Love your show I've learned a lot
I remember Audrey Hepburn in that dress. She was gorgeous. The dress fit her personality. She always looked perfect.
Really like your videos! You are my vibe, lol. New subscriber
Welcome! Beebs is awesome & has just the best comment section.❤
What on earth was Vogue thinking?!? !
Love your take on this and agree with you 100%
The great ones you point out are Fabulous!
Bjork and Billy Porter-gimme a break. No.
Vogue has an agenda…
I always agree with you in these videos!!!
Not sure what is happening in fashion, between the bad designs and the bad editorials, “best of all time”?? A big let down from when Vogue was considered to express the pinnacle of fashion.
Bjork with Leda and the Swan dress was super iconic, beautiful too. I loved it then and definitely still do. Her understanding of beauty was challenging the American status quo!! We need more of this.
You have the best taste Beebs. I have learned so much from watching your videos. Thank you 🤩💗🤩
My favourite was Nicole Kidman's chartreuse dress...fabulous!
Thank you Beebs❤
Thank you Beebs
Why the best of all time? Time is not over yet.
Julia Roberts dress was timelessly perfect
Your reaction to the swan dress is killing me!! 😂😂 I don’t disagree with you, I just love Björk❤
Fun going down memory lane seeing some 90s and earlier Oscar dresses.
I love Dianne Carol 's dress!
Can you please do a review of Princess Catherine's outfits and what she is doing right? I might need some tips haha 😅
