Simple Frostgrave Gnolls - How I Paint Things

- Gnolls are a common enemy in a number of fantasy settings, and the plastic Frostgrave Gnolls kit gives you a ton of options for outfitting these bestial, barbaric warriors. They're also a lot of fun to paint! READ MORE:
There's also a range of metal figures which compliment and expand on the basic gnolls, letting you include templars, trackers, knights or similar in the horde - ideal if you're looking for a Big Bad for your group's D&D sessions or you're in need of a little hired muscle in your Frostgrave warbands. The plastic box is a really brilliant kit, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself figuring out how I wanted to recreate the spotted hyena look on the table!

Gnolls are still among my favorite fantasy humanoid beauties. As always, many thanks for the fine tutorial.
Very nice Paint job, I have looked at getting some of these but I then looked at my mountain if figs and thought NO maybe not.
There's always room for a little something extra on top of the pile, surely! ;D
I just picked up a sprue of these frostgrave gnolls for about £3. Was looking for some painting inspiration as they're mostly covered in leathers and cloth and I wasn't sure how to accentuate the fur parts of the mini. This video was a massive, massive help thank you man.
Awesome!! Just got my box last week.
Love your videos you have such a good attitude towards painting, I would love to see a dragon painting tutorial
Just purchased a box set of these guys. Going to use them in Frostgrave, but also make a few with guns and make a Tribal Warband for This Is Not A Test. Colors turned out great😀
Looking forward to those rangers of shadowdeep!
Now that was something completely different 👍
Great video, I just picked up a box of these guys and should have them all painted up by my next D&D game.
Yay, Frostgrave and Rangers of Shadowdeep!
Thank you , Sonic
I've just acquired some of these blighters so this is very helpful.
glad you're doing a stuff for Frostgrave/ROSD. Awesome stuff.
I'm a little late to the party, but I've really enjoyed what I'm reading through in the book. I think I'm going to take the approach of finding some stand-ins or proxies for some of the miniatures since there is quite a list of requirements, but it might be fun to find some card stands or other markers for dime-a-dozen villains like flies!
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Flies was a weird one.
I've decided to replace the flies with Skaven rat men instead. Cooler mob, nice models and you can easily translate the mobs abilities over.
Nice to see more Frostgrave stuff.
Great video :) would love to see some Orcs painted in your style if they ever happen to land on your desk ;)
Woo! RoSD ftw! ;) And a stellar tutorial as always, mate
great tutorial as always! I want to buy a couple of sprues of gnolls now lol
They're great wee figures. Worth going in with a pal to split a box, I'd say, if you're not gonna use all of them.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio well I've ordered the paints I'm missing, just need to buy a sprue now lol. To Ebay as the local shop to me that sells the sprues is out of stock of the gnolls!
OMG! Did you break into my work area and see the two Wiz Kids Gnolls on my desk?!?! I have been sitting on them for a couple of weeks and I wasn't sure how to paint them! This video was just so timely! Thank you!
You'd almost assume my superpower was to peer across the seas and oceans to see what people were up to, right? Still, I'm sure I could think of more nefarious - or profitable! - schemes than just checking on the work bench. 😂
🤣 1st the Napoleonic’s, then the Gnolls. That’s two for two! If you do a Mando figure, I’ll have to assume you’re “watching” like Santa 🎅! LOL 😂! Thanks again for the awesome videos! 😀👍
Perfect!!!! This is why I love your channel! Simple techniques for great looking models to put on the table! Thank you for the wonderful content! I have 2 boxes of these gnolls, lol!
Excellent! Talk about a happy coincidence, right? :D
i agree, every time i see a gnoll out in nature..... lol. :)
Love the color scheme and plan on borrowing parts of it for some of my Reaper ones!
Happy New Year, thank you and please stay safe.
Been intrested in Rangers of Shadow Deep for sometime. Would love to see some videos on it from you.
Great job. I really liked your paint job for this gnoll.
As always, a quality tutorial with your own unique style. I don't think I can give you greater praise than I have just ordered my first Frostgrave minis based solely on your rather excellent videos!
Ha ha! Excellent. Love to hear I'm a bad influence. ;)
Perfect timing! Just primed these
Amazing work, thanks for the video.
What a great start to 2021! The figure looks very nice and I learned a few new techniques. Thanks for sharing this.
great video. well done
I've eyed the Gnoll box for a while now. I'm glad to see what the sculpts look like painted.
Gnolls don't get nearly as much love as other fantasy races. In D&D, they were never that complicated or nuanced, and 5th edition only saw them _lose_ what little of it they had in 4th. Now they're basically demons in everything but name, rather than people in their own right. Certainly nothing the designers intend to allow people to run as player characters.
Almost out of contrarianism, I've made a point of trying to give Gnolls nuance. Without wholly discarding the demonic connection, as I like to keep certain aspects of "official lore" intact, where it's useful to do so.
"Socks?" Ha, I love it :)
"Beastgrave" should totally be a game!😀 another nice video though. Thanks.
I surprised myself during editing by finding I'd said that... whoops! I don't know, 'Beastgrave' doesn't sound like it'd catch on. ;)
I hate to be "that guy", but Beastgrave is a game... by Games Workshop. It's one of the seasons of their Warhammer Underworlds tabletop game, which started with Shadespire :)
@@theandf really, ha 😀 good shout.
now i have to go back and re-do the muzzles on my gnolls... thanks...
Well, not specifically! Your gnolls just look different. :D
Gnolls where made from a demon named Yeenoghu that game from the abyss to the material plane, not from a wizard I believe. 😉
That does rather depend on which fictional universe you subscribe to! ;D
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio true indeed sir!
GNOLLS!!!
GNOLLS! :D
"Realistic colors"... On a gnoll? 😁
Well, relatively speaking! 😂
Fantastic work know how to paint mine now
I'd love to get these, but they seem to be out of stock everywhere.
Nuts! They'll come back around, I'm sure.
I ha e 2 cat people cant recall there real race name but this should help with painting them
Tabaxi, maybe?
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio that might be it.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Any yes thats the race i just looked at the package on my desk XD
Where did you get your paint rack from?
I wish I could remember! There are a ton of flat-pack MDF paint racks out there, though; you'll find something similar that'll do the job. :)
