Four Crazy Blocks That Actually Work! 52 Blocks - Silat - Kali

  • Update: since posting this, I have learned that all these blocks are found in the 52 blocks system. Some are techniques I learned in Silat, but apparently there´s some crossover with 52 blocks, which makes sense, since there are only so many ways to block a punch.
Here are four martial arts blocks that require no talent, skill or finesse. Well, the first three anyway. And the best part is, they actually work! Some of these are derived from Silat or Kali, one from boxing, and one from 52 Blocks of all things.
    1. Parallels.
    2. Peekaboo Plus.
    3. Single Wing or Cover.
    4. Wing and Beak.
Because these blocks are mostly instinctive and require no skill, they can be used in emergency situations when someone throws an unexpected punch. All these blocks are based on simply putting some body mass between you and the punch, and basically taking the hit on your arms or elbows.
    * * *
This is martial arts for the real world! Welcome to Sabeel Combatives with Wael Abdelgawad.
Sabeel combines the highly effective entries of Silat and Kali with the devastating throws and joint locks of Hapkido. There are also influences of Japanese Jujitsu and Karate. In Sabeel we keep only what works and discard the rest.
On this channel I showcase a wide variety of striking, throwing and locking techniques. Please subscribe and like.

52 works because ITS BATTLE tested in the streets and in prison. I’m glad this blocking system I learned as a youth living in crown heights Brooklyn is getting its respect.
My only criticism of the video is I wish he’d use the terminology for the blocks as mentioned in the original system.

Thanks for the upload. Interesting stuff. Silat has a lot to offer even to those from other disciplines. May I ask, how feasible is an immediate transition to a figure four shoulder lock from the last defensive techinque, the 'wing and beak', rather than a strike? I note your other excellent video on the figure four.
    It's a devastating technique.
Your arm/hand is already there and hooking your other hand over his extended arm at the elbow would surely be possible? That's your figure four setup, pretty much. Any chance of illustrating the pros and cons of this in a future video? Stay safe and thank you again.

Of course the names that they give it now in 52 aren't the original names that I knew it as in jail house. Because the style was originally based off of things that were available in the prison like a deck of cards So the 52 variation was inside of jail house but you also had diamond or diamond cutter which was a grandmaster Style or level I'm glad it's making a comeback I hope one day it'll be a complete style again

""52 blooks system"" (surficed in the 60's 70's) wing chun system mid 1600s. One system taking moves from an older one .That is the argument. Older african fighting systems influence chinese fighting systems that is a different argument and may or may not be proven. The elbow move woriginated from Wing Chun known as the bong sao.. 39 seconds in the video he uses it as a "perry". Thats how you use it in wing chun.. America is not the only nation of boxers wing chun is known as "Chinese boxing." Dont debate with Zur people he doesn't use periods or logic and reasoning. HE tried to justify not using periods by saying our brains don't need them and that is real knowledge because the use of punctuation is a new concept but he insistis on using a newer language like english to communicate INEFFECTIVELY.. Blocking is a terrible form of defense. For one thing, a block strives to answer an attacker's strength with the blocker's own; this can be disastrous for the defender, particularly when their assailant's stronger than them or attacks with a heavy implement, such as a crowbar or a baseball bat. Also, blocking can obscure the blocker's field of vision, and being blind during an altercation could be catastrophic. Finally, if you hesitate and cannot decide which block to use, chances are that the attacker's strike will have already landed.
In my opinion, jamming is superior, and it should not be confused with blocking, parrying or passing. To jam an attack, you slam your forearms or hands into the attacker’s assailing arm (or leg) with the goal of immobilizing it. If you are contending with a punch, edged or blunt weapon, jamming the strike at the bicep would be ideal, since the bicep is the driving force behind the movement; jamming anywhere lower on the arm would be ineffective. That same logic applies to kicks and knee strikes, as well; the thigh is the starting point for any strike with the leg.

yeah no shit, exactly the same can happen with jamming the attack, an attacker who is much stronger than you will punch through your jams.
And speaking of baseball bats - i have seen a baseball bat beeing blocked by a high cover like this while simultaneously moving in close range
"Also, blocking can obscure the blocker's field of vision, and being blind during an altercation could be catastrophic."
It doenst matter that much. If done correctly , you wont and even if you do, you are well covered for a lot of attacks
"Finally, if you hesitate and cannot decide which block to use, chances are that the attacker's strike will have already landed."
Yeah NO SHIT I can say this to your Jams aswell or pretty much ANYTHING - if you HESITATE its gonna be to late. wow.
Jaming will only work if you can time the trajectory of an attacking arm or leg perfectly to stop it in its momentum
      That requires
      A) that you SEE the attack coming in time
      B) that you can identify the attack in time
      C) that you are not beeing feinted with the attack , otherwise your arms will just hit air and youll be wide open
      D) that you Hit the attacking limb at the perfect spot WHILE timing it right
There is a reason you dont see these in combat often
A shoulder JAM would be a different story though

52 blocks did not start it in the '60s and the 70s the African slaves knew how to fight when they were brought to America because Africans already knew how to fight the fighting style was developed in slave fighting and the prison that it was developed in was when the slaves was freed and they will put them in prison for breaking the laws which are called The Black codes what you ridiculous laws that you could not break like you will go to jail for not having a job but they do not hire black people and 52 blocks has nothing to do with Wing Chun or salit or anything else your mind wants to try to come up with and African American slaves been using the cross guard and all these forms are blocking and the reason boxing has all these guards and blocks today is because when they started letting black fighters fight white people for example Jack Johnson they said he fought like a coward because he constantly moved up and down side to side dodging bobbing and weaving constantly throwing his jab blocking and as they called it flailing his arms the white boxes did not fight like this that is why they called him a coward and they thought it was strange African American fighters changed how boxing operated they just could not use there full arsenal because of boxing rules so modern-day boxing is just 52 blocks under boxing regulations and you really think some black people knew about Wing Chun when most white Americans did not and we are talking about poor black people who do not have much information

@@zur2016 Sir perhaps there is some historical slave knowledge that started 52 blocks. Where can I read more about it? However, you do know that wing chun started in the mid 1600 right? And the core principal arts that form wing chun are "snake" and "crane" style. Meaning all of the movements in wing chun can be found in these two styles. The 5 animal styles of shaolin originated between 1200s and 13000s. SO, even still, wing chuns manuvers still predates the tranatlantic slave period. I was only commenting on one particular move "The bong sao" Which is clearly a wing chun move. Perhaps you might have better luck finding some connection between the original 5 animal gung fu styles and african fighting systems if you are trying to prove that this particular move (the bong sao) indeed has roots in afircan fighting styles.

At 39 seconds in the video he states " It might just GO PASSED ME OR it might just hit my arm. Its ok" So if he uses it as a perry AND ITS OK and wing chun uses it the same way and out dates it, WIng chun is the original. I like the immediate counter from the inside. But these are ridiculous in my opinion. A novice, and surely a trained fighter will exploit this fraudulent tutorial.
