  • This is how I fitted a switch wire to my new car stereo. Been working fine for over a month so I though I'd share. Look for blue wire under glove box.

It connects to the ignition relay and is the switched electronics feed to the BCM. Having looked at the diagrams it is pretty much the only choice for a switched live. I looked at the power roof as I don’t have one but that isn’t switched as it relies on the power saver to disconnect it. Using this wire would be an issue on a head unit that actually draws power through the switched live but otherwise fine. It is fused by a 20A fuse (F41) in the engine fuse box which if blown or disconnected causes the immobiliser to arm so bear this in mind again if you have a switched live that draws power on your head unit.

Could you please explain how the switch wire you've added connects to the wiring at the head unit? Do you just connect it to the red or yellow? I've been trying to get my stereo working all weekend and it's driving me mad now. Turns out I'd been trying to do this method but using the wrong wire at the head unit, blue and white (which I now realise is purely for sending a signal for the amp to power on, not the stereo itself). I can get the stereo to power on by plugging the red wire into the double plug on the yellow (sony head unit). But obviously I want the stereo to power on/off automatically with the ignition like you've managed to do.

To the switch wire on head unit. Think it will be yellow or blue. if no switch wire you need to connect switch wire to permanent live and use the stereo on off switch

@@waynehendry9782 I managed to sort it. I bought a piggy back fuse and plugged it into a switched live fuse slot in the engine bay fuse box (rear wiper). Then ran the wire through an existing hole in the bulkhead to the live wire from the stereo. Works perfectly now, stereo switching on/off with the ignition. Cheers.

So how did u connect to that blue wire exactly and what is the wire for? What do you mean you cut a bit of wire off I'm confused I want to change my stereo to aftermarket. Are there any other blue wires

Just used a sharp blade to cut the outer plastic sleeve off (4mm ish long) exposing the inner wire.. Dabbed a bit of solder on to fix new wire to act as a switch wire. Put a zip tie around the old and new wire so it don't pull off and taped up to insulate. I did not want to cut through the original factory fitted blue wire that I read others use as a switch wire.

      Large wire
      It's a thick wire.
The thinner blue wire in video is mine I run to stereo. As luck would have it I had a roll already. Never noticed any other wires other than a thick blue one.
