Why the Clones Feared Ventress the Most

  • If you asked the average clone trooper what scared them more than anything on the battlefield, they would probably name a few separatist leaders and battle droid models, but deep down every trooper feared the one they call the "hairless banshee". Clutching twin lightsabers which gleamed off her bald head, she was sent to torment the clones and create fear amongst the ranks.

That’s one of the things that makes the Umbaran campaign in The Clone Wars so much more edgy…those weren’t merely mindless droids the clones were fighting, they were living beings defending their home planet doing what they believed was right. Combined with General Krell’s treachery, the Umbaran campaign is arguably the best arc in TCW. It certainly deserves consideration as it has so many elements to it including fog of war, honor, sacrifice, betrayal, friendly fire, strategy and ingenuity.

  • @occam7382

And that wasn't just some random ARC Trooper Asajj killed. That was Commander Colt, leader of the Rancor Battalion, one of the most well-respected units of the GAR in the early days of the war. Colt even personally oversaw the training of many clone units. He was almost like Commander Cody and Captain Rex... before Commander Cody and Captain Rex (really came into their own, anyway). And he dies, not in a heroic last stand (not quite anyway), but is murdered and humiliated by Asajj. That almost certainly was horrifying to a lot of clones, especially those who had fought with and/or trained under Colt. I imagine that while Asajj was well-known and feared before this, after the death of Colt, she became utterly despised by the men of the GAR.

I hope he talks more about how Ventress is much more adept in the Light Side now. As we’ve seen from Rebels, the ability to connect with large predatory animals like that monster that attacked her is no small feat. Ventress, as much as she wants to hide it, has grown much gentler since we last saw her. She’s become a Grey Jedi like Ahsoka, and I think that’s really cool!

Ventress showing up and testing Omega was fantastic. She's definitely one of my favorite characters from The Clone Wars.
She originated from a rejected design when creating a villain for The Phantom Menace and has honestly become a more layered character. As a character in the Star Wars Universe, I think she's a very interesting character. Or was. TBD after her resurrection...
But I'm 100% certain if I was actually IN the Star Wars Universe and met her, I'd not come near her with a 50-foot pole. She's murderous, a little unhinged, angry, unpredictable, severe, vengeful, and aggressive. Those characteristics make for a GREAT character, but in real life, you would not have anything to do with someone like that unless forced to do so.
Everyone in Star Wars has choices to make, and a lot of them come with really awful backstories, and most of them make good choices, good decisions, and try to be better. Asajj made a lot of very, very bad choices, for a very, very long time. Her shift to being a better person really hasn't been that long.
But I'm completely on board for her continuing down a better path. I'm just saying...*stares intently at Ventress*... "I'm watching you."

I honestly really enjoyed Ventress in this episode, I don't read the books and this fits in with what we saw of her in The Clone Wars. I also liked her own way of testing a potential force user which was different from what we have seen before

If even some of Droids survived the end, then there’s hope for Ventress. I never carded for how she “ended” in old canon.
    She deserves to find happiness.

She says she was pawned in the same war just like the Batch and that they all lost. While she was Dooku's, and by extension Palpatine's, unwitting puppet, she still freely and intentionally committed those war crimes and wasn't tricked or deceived into them.

Off-topic, but you should do a video about using space-based starfighters in-atmosphere. It always seems weird to me when TIEs or X-wings show up as air support. They have to transition from miles-per-second velocities in space to miles-per-hour, so much slower and inefficient!

I know it’s not Bad Batch Related, but I’m finally watching Asoka and I noticed that the droids in each faction have “bad guy” or “good guy” voices, and I’m sure this can be carried on to other Star Wars franchises. Is there an in universe reason for this at all?

I still think Ventress is somehow strandcasted from Omega's DNA & her own DNA from Daphamire.

"...A *woman* could create such division, now that was troubling."
    -Sounds about right. 😉 j/k.
It is unfortunate that the Bad Batch doesn't comprehend the significance of Ventress's lightsaber color, that of course being now yellow as opposed to the crimson red which occurs to lightsabers of all other colors (save the Dark Saber) when wielded for any significant amount of time by a dark-side force user. The yellow, as I've researched, is indicative of light-side force users who seek balance between combat and scholarly training/education. As well, I've also found some sources indicating that a yellow lightsaber is often wielded by force users who've turned away from the dark-side of the force and have made strong, positive efforts to operate within the spectrum of the light-side of the force. Pretty significant over all in telling of Ventress's character.
Asajj Ventress and Crosshair share a very similar turning history: loyal to the Separatists/Empire until they were betrayed by those (relative) factions.

is it really the bad batch that have matured since the end of the clone wars, or is it that they have learned to trust omega's judgement when it comes to these situations where she can read people and determine at a glance if they are going to be a threat to them?
