I bet the dog can't really tell but people who got bit tends to just run rather get torn apart by the dog, its a good pscych trick to tell if someone is infected.

I think the dog can only smell the infected wound, because they look gross even after a couple of hours from the bite, so that’s probably what they smell. Ellie doesn’t have any infected wound because the fungus is deep in her brain so that’s why the dog couldn’t reach it
Dogs in the last of us are apparently like dogs in the Terminator films: they can tell who’s human and who isn’t

Really glad they have decided to touch on the Joel’s PTSD in this episode. It just reminds the viewer that he is a human and not some superhero, he still experiences psychological issues and trauma like everyone else
In the game he was a fearless and driven man. That's the Joel we know. No reason to put mental illness in this series. Joel got a girl from Massachusetts to Wyoming with this kind of infection going on. He definitely is a super hero. Not many, if any, can do what he did.

I think I’ve been on every ride there except the one that was like a giant Ferris wheel with the cages that spun I think it was called the thunder something or something similar

Curious. So if a scanner can detect Ellie’s infection, but a dog can’t, i wonder what other variety of tests can work on Ellie or not.
My theory on this is the scanner looks for any virus within the body immune or not and the dog just looks for any sign of actual infection (ex : half rotting from a bite, open wounds with viral infection) though who knows
Scanner detects the infection from the blood so its accurate af. The dog can probably just smell the fungus sprouting from the body so since Ellie is immune to that she's good.
I’m guessing at the time she was infected the fungai virus is still in her body but since she’s immune her body fights it off like the common cold or flu. So by the time they get to this scene it’s no longer present .

The PTSD came from the trama of lossing joel daughter, its a real emotion that comes out even now when hes with ellie he doesn't know that he's starting to feel something for the kid. Even after he keps trying to push his feelings away & not feel a connection with the kid he doesn't want to loss another child.
Never played TLOU, but what I do like is how this group runs. Horseback with modern Firearms is a dangerous thing I might say, and they are a good choice compared to having to utilize vehicles.
A lot of post-apocalyptic shows say horses are better, but honestly they’re not. I’ve raised horses before and they are a MASSIVE investment. You’d be surprised how much maintenance they require compared to a vehicle. Post-apocalyptic stories usually have resource shortages, so keeping a horse would only drain what little there is extremely quickly.

@@bsgfan1 by 20 years into an apocalypse like this there would be very few vehicles left that could actually run. The lack of parts, tools and any functional gasoline to fuel them would make working cars a rarity. Horses and other rideable animals would become more popular as would likely the return to steam power.

The smartest thing ellie did was put both her hands up, its a none threatening move when a viscous dog approaches you, place your hands up & stand still its a sign that the person isn't a threat.Maybe that's also is why the dog didn't attack her also i dont think he smell any virus on her so.

Dogs actually have a strong sense of smell. Which helps them identify certain individuals. So they definitely sniff out the infected hands down.

She has a bite scar and some very dormant infection material or sth, so a dog will have a hard time finding that I think.

The show would’ve ended quickly if the dog tore into her, leading Joel to probably fight back and getting himself killed too.

Dogs have a strong sense of smell around 1ooox that of humans. Your dog can smell the food on the fridge from the outside it drives the poor things crazy.
the dog reaction to ellie was of playful behavior she wasn't infected as a baby while she was in her mothers stomach, her mother was bit on the lag & the abilical cord was still attacked to the baby.When the baby came out anna cut the abilical cord but the Cordyceps, had alrady went into ellie brain, later on when she was 14 years old she got attacked by a clicker but it didn't infect her because it assumed she was already infected. Fireflies assumed because of this she had to be a cure for the virus, its not true she's only amune to the virus later on Marlene says to joel that ellie could some day be attack by infected clickers or worse & die. If she has the Cordyceps in her & it didnt effect her with the virus its only acting like a host then she should be amune to being attacked by infected but who know how it works.

Speaking as a walking dead fan, this show is way better than the walking dead. The high budget in this show is much more apparent in this show, it almost makes the walking dead feel “cheap”.

Only bad thing about the episode: Tommy and Maria are not leaders, Maria is the leader. I know it's just an adaptation, but there's so much the same as the game that it's hard to get used to the changes.
Nothing was said about Tommy being a leader in either the show or the game. In the games, Maria apparently "sorta runs things around here". And here, she's a part of a council. Both seem okay to me.

The US, where the story takes place, is a diverse nation in which black women do exist. Maria was more of a minor character in the game, so I don't think it's a let down to anyone (no one's attached to Maria) that she doesn't look like the original character. I don't know what your point is... A story like this that's set in the US really should have racially diverse characters because obviously that's reflective of real US demographics.
