- Machiavellianism refers to a personality trait that is characterized by an ability to be extremely manipulative, deceitful, and cunning as a means to achieve one’s goals, such as POWER or STATUS, and It’s one of the three tenets of the Dark Triad, which includes narcissism and psychopathy. Individuals with a machiavellian personality profile can be incredibly manipulative. Put it this way, if someone with the machiavellian trait was a soul reaper, manipulation is their "zanpakuto". Its safer to be feared than loved if you cannot be both.

POV Mewtwo
But obviously, both are preferred.
@@venmis137 how do you become both loved and feared?
@@mr.e2962 idk I've never tried to inspire those emotions myself.
But it's definitely possible. The love could perhaps come from a respect of the person, or an appreciation of all the good things they have done and their good nature. The fear could come from a knowledge of that person's authority, and their willingness to use it to harsh effect if you disrespect, disobey, or step out of line in any way.
The Church does it with God I think, where you're supposed to be both "god-fearing" and loving of god simultaneously. It's a dynamic in traditional father-son relationships from what I've heard.
I'm not sure which is better to cultivate first, personally I lean more towards fear. Fear is safer on its own than love, then once you're secure in that you can use a softer hand, and the subject will be grateful and adoring to you for the relief. By contrast cultivating love first is a more insecure position, and once you have to instil fear it is probably much more likely to instil resentment in the subject, who will probably feel a sense of betrayal.

The scariest thing about machiavellianism is that, unlike other dark triad personalities, such type of behaviour actually makes sence and really beneficial. Or is it just me? :O
Narcissism is useful too 😢
@@clarapena1484 I wouldn't say so, not in a long run. Narcissists end up alone and hated, sooner or later.
Lol.
@@MrCurlz no at the end of the day people will hate you for choosing work over friends, and try to make me look like the bad guy even when I’m not using any other of those tools so now, I just don’t care when I use all the tools in my disposal.
@@TheOverLord2x well I think it would be more indifference than hate, so if you don't want any friends at the first place it could work out
I always find it funny and sad because my family is made up of the dark triad. Just about every female in the family (grandmother's/sister's/Mom/cousin's) are Narcissistic, what was funny was how ALL of them always accused my grandfather (Narcissistic grandmother's ex husband) of being Narcissistic when in reality all of those who accused him of being one were the real narcissists while he was actually Macavalian.
Edit: I love the fact that a handful of people feel like I'm the Narc projecting when I'm literally going by the 20+ therapist & psychologist that practically raised me 75% of my life because of how bad/toxic/abusive my family was. No CYS/CPS didn't care about the drugs and abuse going on so I got to live in that hell for 20 years of life.
What's funny is that my eldest sister who is Narcissistic also chose a partner that's also Machiavellian like our grandfather (the pattern between the men and women in my family had always intrigued a good chunk of my therapist and psychologist growing up).
But yes I'm totally the Narc here that's projecting, I mean I'll have to tell all of my past therapist and psychologist that they were wrong about me all these years and some teeny bops with no degrees online clearly have a better understanding then them lol
I have no idea what happened in ur family but take this a piece of advice from a complete stranger:plz don’t share your very personal problems with anyone especially on internet i know it can be hard when you don’t have anyone to open up but hey, things will get better anyway
Same 🙄
Assuming it's true, that is one very interesting and unfortunate family dynamic.
@@mouhamedboudjahem what ?

The ironic sad part of "Machiavellianism", is that Machiavelli was demonized for his observations and recording them down. The common interpretation of his work is basically, "This is how to be the villain." However, rephrase this interpretation to, "Dear reader, if you see these traits, this is someone who is acting villainously!", then you get something very different. His work comes across more as a warning and a 'red flag' system for anyone to look for, kind of like a 'training manual for whistleblowers' in some ways.
I'm more inclines to describe someone who has a 'Machiavelli' personality type as one that is extremely observant and analytical, rather than manipulative and villainous.
How would you confront, or help someone who is going through 'Machiavellianism', or is doing it, but unaware of it?
now you got me interested in reading the Prince, lol! I always thought it was a boring book about how to become a ruler or something
I think you’re on point about the “Prince” serving more as a warning for future politicians and about a Machiavellian being more observant analytical than villainous.
I feel that this video failed capture that and that most characteristics listed out are more indicative to Narcissism or Malignant Narcissism rather than Machiavelianism.
When I took the Dark Triad test, I scored low on every thing else but came out as a High Machiavellian but I don’t really do the things suggested in this video.
Thank you so much.
I was wondering if its only me or does anyone else in the world see it the same way.
Very reassuring.
@@georockstar09 I know its been a year, but care giving me the pdf, I want to read it
@@LeHunter70 the Prince? Should be on project Gutenberg
I remember scoring “High-Mach” on a Machiavellian test at school and liking his book “The Prince”, but I typically don’t go out of my way to be Machiavellian. Truthfully, I just want a peacful life to do things I wanna do
Wow, me too, but I like “48 rules of power” it kinda felt like home, like happy that someone understood that there is another tactic, by nonetheless it made me not alone.
Same here. I too have read the Prince and excerpts of the 48 Laws of Power.
I’m an INFJ and when I took the Dark Triad test, I scored extremely low for Psychopathy and Narcissism but scored higher on Machiavelianism with a 62%.
It’s interesting because I don’t think the suggestions in this video really fit me.
I don’t go about gossiping about other people, I’m not that competitive to point where I hurt other relationships, I don’t use insincere flattery (I try to be irrevocable with my word most of the time), and I’m not regularly manipulative.
Could I do those things? Sure but there’s no value to it. All of those characteristics listed in video sound more indicative to Narcism rather than Machiavelianism.
For me, Machiavellian strategy isn’t really about being villainous or grabbing power but rather using survival strategies, understanding circumstances, and being street smart.
@@Jackal_El_Lobo34 I agree with you, after all why use every force you have when your only getting a little portion of it. At first I thought having a Machiavellian personality is a bad thing but you shed a little light that it may not be the case. If we are talking to mbti is it common for infj? Because I’m intj and I’m not well informed about Mbti right now.
@@Why-nv2js Probably not. I don’t thinks it’s innate for INFJ’s to be Machiavelianian. I think Machiavelianism is actually a learned trait and that any personality is capable of it.
For me, it started as a child. I came from divorced parents and lived most of my formative years with my mom who was an abusive Narcissist.
Thankfully, I had an intervention as my dad got me out of that environment but when I went to live with him, I came with cluster B traits.
While most of them have gone away through counseling, my parents noticed that I was capable of being opportunistic during my teens.
I think it really came from watching my moms behavior. While she didn’t directly sit me down and tell me “okay son this is how you can be manipulative. Now go and do it like a good doggy”. It was more like she was regularly exploitative and that I picked up on those cues regarding its effects on specific circumstances.
I don’t know how other people became Machiavellian.
@@Jackal_El_Lobo34 well in my case, when I was elementary grade 2 where I transferred school to private school. It was my first time meeting them and I was happy to meet my classmates family even the other teacher. My mom said that I was bright emphatic kid. But it all went down. The first time I was accused of touching her pp, mind you at that time I don’t know what they were talking about. And my mother interrogated me for a week, it felt torture as no one is coming to comfort me, even my father is busy at his stocks. Because of it I felt despair as no one is here to comfort me. And later on I was mentally drained and I comply everything they accused me of. After that one of my teacher used this opportunity to alienate me and hove more nice view on himself, but I didn’t think it was bad, because it helps them to have more connections to the classmates. But he is a good teacher as he is the only teacher I could play and have fun, rather than the other teacher using there harsh words and their disgusted view.
Thanks to this I’ve been alone for a decade, right now I’m trying to fix myself, but it’s hard to change your habit that’s been with you for a decade. Because of this I’m only good at math, science and civic because this teacher are really nice, but the rest I suck because of there treatments on me.
Basically I’m afraid of people who are easily misinformed or manipulated, as they will cut ties with you without a warning, maybe that’s the reason why I’m afraid of having a real friend, when you’re surrounded with people who are easily manipulated. As it could damage me and my other connections.
I guess I felt relief that there are Machiavellian out there, so that I could understand if I did wrong to other people. When I was a kid they have a negative point of me because of my race, I guess that time they were racist, but I didn’t believe that they were racist, because I had a classmates of multiracial people, it made me have a good view on humanity, and I didn’t believe about racism at that time, I don’t see different about there face and race, but until I went to the private school it felt I was the different it felt as if there league is different from me.
Even to this day I’m afraid of people.

Same! I have a main character who's a machiavellian type of person in a lot of aspects
i literally came here to comment this exact thing lmao
DUDE, SAME! Almost everyone in my OC's family is part of the dark triad one way or another
this is a really good idea for writers
Makima, Griffith, Homelander, Omni-Man, Stormfront, Junko Enoshima, and many others are chilling examples of these…fiction just gave them superpowers or in Junko’s case, a whole lot of money and a massive ego.
Kisaki from Tokyo Revengers is a great example too, he's very smart but uses his perceptiveness and adaptability to manipulate people from behind the scenes and to turn them against each other for his own gains and influence.
@@KitsuNerezza And then there’s also Light Yagami and Yuno Gasai (Future Diary) and both of them are basically anime versions of The Joker without the clown motif.

Sometimes we can't avoid people with this kind of behaviour for example at work. Combatting Machiavellianism by being authentic.
The most important advice is to remember our core values and to adhere to principles and set objectives that meet these values. Focus on displaying our positive personality traits and strengthen our own self-worth.
Couldn't agree more to this. 💯💯💯

Sadly it seems people in positions of power that we cannot say no to tend to be Machiavellian.
Not just toxic but a fake friend I've had many of them just stay away from people like that
Fun fact, Machiavellian himself whom this term is named after was in reality just a pragmatist. He believed that democracy/republicanism was the ideal thing, but simultaneously believed that an autocratic king might be what was needed to unite Italy into a singular kingdom so that a republic may arise. Basically a person who wanted the best, but accepted that more nefarious means might be required for the end goal
This girl is my desk partner…She actually pushed me out of my seat to let someone else sit there 🤕

I work with a female and a male who exhibit these traits to a freggin TEE!!!!!……Always in everyone else’s business (needlessly), sucking up to the bosses, talks behind everyone else’s back, bullies to make themselves look good…Just rotten people, but weak if you really call them out! Most of us in the company avoid them like the plague….Ironically, they both are best friends…LOL. One recently got voted into a “meager” position within our Union, while the other one manipulated workers into voting for “his” candidate…😏. Both spread lies, and manipulated a lot of young workers into those votes…….Glad I watched the video.

Hang in there I'm sure you can get trough this !!
I know a family infested with both covert and overt narcissists. It's either they're infallible or the woe is me type who claim to be the most victimized in history and would down play the struggles of others, even if they are kids dying of cancer, while refusing to help themselves or seek help.
your voice is so calm and sleepy it helps so much for relax
Great video! Machiavellianism seems to be similar to narcissism in a lot of ways😮 The animation and writing is great!!!💕
Thank you! :) Glad you enjoyed the writing and animation!
I was married for 12 years to someone with the traits of a Machiavellean. He was also a covert narcissist. I am a gentle, sensitive and highly sensitive person. The marriage nearly destroyed every aspect of my health. I escaped one year ago, and am now dealing with the aftermath, which includes complex post traumatic stress disorder. Please let this be a warning!
My situation is identical to yours. I was married for 13 years, he left me 2 years ago once he'd acquired my life savings, a substantial amount of money. He also took my home. I have CPTSD, and have become a recluse because i feel ashamed that i was so gullable.
I wish you well in your recovery.
referring to someone as a machavellean and self diagnosing them with a personality disorder.. you come off as clueless and toxic. No one can be a machavillian. You can be scaled low or high with machavilliasm. It's not a disorder. Anyone can be scaled for machavilliasm. Personality disorders like npd have to evualted by professionals. Bipolar, ADHD and alcholism have to be ruled out or comorbid to be diagnosed with it. It's not determined by how toxic or crappy of a partner they are. Anyone can be that way without any disorder playing a role.

Awesome art style and animation
I’ve seen stories of people being machiavellians. The problem is they think they’re on top level of everything and think they get can get away with anything, no matter how it affects others. That’s just how I see it.
Machiavelli gets a bad rap these days. “The Prince” was basically just a handbook for lower-level royalty figures during the Renaissance period on how to avoid being assassinated
the thumbnail wud be a great cover for a BL Manga 😭
whoever did this art did AMAZINGA
I mean this is pretty accurate. People are often foolish. Behind almost every action lies an irashinal emotion which makes it easy to manipulate someone if you know which strings to pull. People with traits from the dark triad are actually a lot harder to point out. They tend to mix pretty well in crowd.

Welp! This is my boss to a T!!! 😭 I have a very difficult time dealing with her, there's been a lot of times I have to go cry in a different part of the building, I feel like she does or says things on purpose to get a ride out of me. Or if she see's that I'm feeling good/confident at work she finds a way to bring me down- which sucks because confidence is something I struggle with. Sometimes I feel like she hired me to help me better myself but other times I feel like she's a double agent and not really on my side? I feel she's playing mind games with me and testing me constantly. A friend told me that it's a very toxic work place and I should get out of there. I don't really know what to do. I recently caught my boss faking a rumor, to what end? I have no idea! But it made me mad, again, some kind of test against me. 🤷🏻♀️
Sadly I live with one. My fiancee's mother has 3 out of 4 of the traits. But I have 4. So she and I go back and forth. My life in this house would be a great drama that's for sure. So many stories I could write about. And believe me I would so love to write on what has happened in the last 14 years. That's how long me and my fiancee has been together for

i hate the fact that i already knew what he was doing, noticed all of his manipulations on other people to go against me yet i ignored it all and considered him because i believe he could learn, regret these wrong actions and someday mature into a better person

I'm Machiavellian and I'm not a piece of garbage. Your personality can align with this construct without it meaning you're automatically evil. I have very deep, meaningful relationships. But do I sometimes plan so far into the future that it almost doesn't make any sense for right now? Yes 🤣. We are patient people who are not impulsive and will work very hard for a long time to get what we want. There's nothing wrong with that.

Lol. It’s okay.
I like this channel but this is one of the few times where I have to differ. As a High Machiavellian, I don’t really do the things mentioned in this video.
Most of things suggested in the video sound like things a person would do if they were on a ego trip which is kinda narcissistic than Machiavellian.
“The Prince” as it is is more than scheming to the top for power. It’s a how to rule manual that stipulates instructions for survival in politics and how to deal with specific dubious people in society.
To put it bluntly, it teaches you how to be street smart than villainous.
@@Jackal_El_Lobo34 thank you!!!! I thought the video sounded more along the lines of psychopathy and narcissism too. It's honestly quite difficult to spot a Mach because it would thwart our plans to be found out lol
I am too. However when it gets serious we do whatever it takes to eliminate and win. Only when there’s high stakes I’m not ego chasing every victory.
I was wondering if you could do an informative/suggestive video on this topic:
I have a friend who is recently confirming that they are depressed, and they are an online friend, but I feel like they are attention seeking, in a not so good way. I was hoping you could do a video on what to do in this scenario, if you had a friend like this? Thank you and love your videos
When I was in seventh grade, there was a girl that went to my school. She was supposedly friends with one of my two friends that went to school with me at the time. The two of them and I were in the same class. That girl kept my friend away from me for a lot of time. I could see she was manipulating my friend and telling obvious lies and gossiping a lot, but I was and still am very introverted and didn’t want to say anything. I knew something was definitely wrong with her. She and my friend stopped being friends the summer afterwards (thank God). Because of this video, I know that this girl is most likely Machiavellian.
As soon as I heard how to protect myself from Machiavellians, my heart dropped, because all those things are the opposite of what I do with my peers and friends. I’m going to keep watching for any Machiavellians, thanks psych2go!
Machavillians aren't a thing. Machavilliasm can only scaled low to high with people in general

I am currently in the 2nd semester of the 4th year of HS, and we just discussed "The Prince" by Niccolo Machiavelli. So yes, I can confirm this video is accurate
Thank you for watching!!!😊❤ What was your favorite part of the video?
I'm only Machiavellian on competitive games that include survival skills and have parts that are easy to manipulate people with, like Elimination voting and stuff, using private chat. But being Machiavellian in real life is a horrible and hard thing to do!
Really love it when Anime is included in these videos 😂
Jst feels rather wholesome
Early!
My narcissistic mother and sister have signs number 2, 3, and 4. They say I have anger issues when clearly, they do themselves. However, I am unsure if that counts as excessive gossip. I am surviving by learning new skills and getting more help, especially from therapists.
That hylian shield 😍
I've got an invisible hylian shield to protect me from manipulation and gaslighting. Forged in years by experience and learning.
One of my(past) friends is a Narcissist , my other a Machiavellian
I think I might might kinda be a machiavellian, but I don't wish to harm any others. I only do things with reason and I have a understanding of human morals, and avoid trespassing said morals. I don't gossip about people, or atleast not consciously and never share/use their secrets in anyway. I try to give as much as I can in any relationship I'm in, to try and make up for my, negative(??) behaviours, but I of course also gain something. What should I do?
As a High Machiavellian, I don’t really do those things either.
I just have an understanding of how some people work and know how to pull strings if needed.
Otherwise, I don’t really make it my mission to exploit people.
So how did you decide that you are high Machiavellian? What traits do you see in yourself ?
@@Jackal_El_Lobo34 I've always been one-sided in life and have 'chosen' sides to those who can provide me with stuff i want. I've always disregarded arguments from the other person's side by ignoring right and wrong for the sake of getting what i want. It's survival, but it comes with a price. I only cope with listening to both side's bullshit for my end, otherwise i wouldn't even care to bother if it wasn't for my leverage. I'm friendly by nature, but have a zero tolerance policy to not getting what i want, and sometimes chose the worst decisions for others misery i'm not proud of. I'm certain others who have high personality traits of Machiavellianism have been in this situation before.
I vaguely remember reading about a person named Machiavelli back in high school through a college course. I'm assuming machiavellianism is named after him, right?
Sometimes I'm not even interested in the topic of the video, but nonetheless I play it, because I like the sound of your voice 🤭

I dealt with it by divorcing him.
They are very dangerous people, avoid sharing personal info with them, they can use anytime, anywhere without remorse
They tell dangerous lies against others to cause separations , for power and for control.
The background music if very nice
I married one. So damn sad. I still have PTSD from the narcissistic machevailian
What if I am this person...
I try to learn more about myself and be better. I'm tired and trying my best to live well and be authentic. In my opinion, I will attempt to resort to this sort of behavior when there are perceived inadequacies in myself. I guess what I'm hoping to find is info that'll help me fight against this behavior within me and what personal care could be used to subvert my own behavior if I recognize I'm currently behaving in such a manner. The answer seems clear to me, but like I've said, I'm tired ( also fighting off situational depression at the moment) and would like to know more about this sort of behavior. I'm working on being more grateful and trying to make happiness within myself for myself, one step at a time. Knowing the right information can make a big difference.
if you're worried you're machiavellian, then you're probably not
Tetta Kisaki from Tokyo Revenger has Machiavellian personality. Anyway, most of my family members are gossipers and treat others who have a lower status like shit. I am glad I separated from them 13 years ago.
just trying to heal and severe that superficial relationship, which sadly, because I trusted and fell victim to the BS i opened up fully, and so healing has been very difficult, and the abuse enraged me finally, and now....
one day at a time, hurts tho, as I did love this person with all my heart and looked up to them and we had a relationship that endured for years, to say it was all bad and BS would be a lie, F'n hurts tho! :( separating the good from the BS is difficult, I don't believe this person is evil, just immature/ignorant....
Its crazy.I have finally extracated myself from someone who i just thought was a narcissist. But after watching this I realized that he is actually machiavellist.I feel so lucky to have gotten away when I did.
Aizen Taicho. Nice 😊
I had a friend like that, i am a dark empath. So i was able to understand what she was. Tho i am a dark empath but i still have empathy for others. But when she use to spread rumours against others and me , i threw her like tissue.
Ok I previously thought that I was on the lower side of being a psychopath but now I think I am a Macavalian….
I already knew that i am Machiavellism personality , i use everyone around me. I have manipulated my friends so many times to get what i want , i try my best to get every information about my friends . But the difference is whenever i manipulate the specific person that person also gets benefitted from my manipulation . I have never told any information of mine which can exploited in the future by my friends. So, basically i have manipulated everyone one who even likes me a little bit.
Aizen was the perfect example
