      It doesn't matter how much you study things, you have to implement them over and over. Practice them during the day when you're not dysregulated so you can actually remember they exist when you are dysregulated. It's like hacking a path through the jungle, you can read about the proper way to cut vines all day but that won't replace the necessary action of hewing a road. 1.Take a time gap before taking any wierd decision.

    I used to have ADHD as a kid, and then I was re-diagnosed later in life with just ADD. My emotions as a child didn't show themselves as much a problem except for maybe one or two tantrums, but now that I've seen this video, part of me wonders if my ADD still proves to be hyperactive when it comes to my emotions.... it would explain a lot of things.

    • @XelionGraves
      @XelionGraves Před rokem +4

      The very same. I grew up having ADHD, then ADD. I've always been a quiet child, but felt like I wasn't allowed to have emotions, which may not have been true but that was how I internalized my situation. A few decades later and I finally get therapy and find out I have clinical depression and social anxiety. I hope that you do not have or develop these problems. No one deserves this demon.

    • @novinovi-
      @novinovi- Před rokem

      I have adhd and yeah, I got the hyperactive side quite a lot and it sucks but I the fact that the internalized version is often overlooked is a shame.
      I would do things in the moment and then I’d hate myself for it. I would feel so bad and since I was still in second grade at the time this struggle peaked before I was diagnosed I would get mad at myself, which led to unhealthy self harm as a way to punish myself.
      Eventually I got diagnosed and got meds which were life savers- The aftermath of finally being more in control led to an insane bottling problem as I had internalized emotions=bad awful side of me to the point where I still struggle to communicate my emotions. I still fight that unhealthy mindset that I’m a monster that needs to control themselves to this day.
      Even if it isn’t as overt(like in my case) that mental thought process is extremely painful on its own and is just as much of a struggle as outwardly being impulsive!

    As someone with BPD, this is something I struggle a lot with. Mostly impulsivity and emotional irregularity. I can't just tell people "Hey yeah please be patient with me I have BPD". They wouldn't get it. Not even my family does and it's hard to really talk to them about it. They think I don't have anything I need to be emotional or depressed about. I don't tell them everything that happens in my life. They just judge. I'd like to think if I found a better place to go, my mental health would improve greatly. I just feel like this prisoner in my own house.
    Edit: I finally moved out with a friend and I started going to college. I just got broken up with a few days ago so my mental health has been spiraling. But, I hope everyone's doing good! CHANGES DURING ADOLESCENCE
    Adolescence is the period when a child becomes an adult. In order to understand it and recognize it more easily, you need to know what changes it brings with it.
    The first important change is physical or better known as puberty. Adolescent age begins with puberty, which represents a period of turbulent biological changes and is the most visible sign of the beginning of adolescence. Puberty refers to all the physical changes that occur in a person who passes from childhood to adulthood. The average age at which it starts is 10 years for girls and 12 for boys, but it is very individual for each child. In girls, it lasts a little longer than 18 months to 6 years, while in boys it lasts from 2 to 5 years. The physical changes that are evident during this period are caused by sex hormones. In both boys and girls, the production of sex hormones causes rapid growth and weight gain in this period of life. Biologically speaking, puberty refers to the period when a person becomes capable of sexual reproduction. In boys, a sudden growth of the testicles occurs during puberty, as well as the appearance of pubic hair, and later there is the appearance of hair on the face and body, and the voice becomes deeper. This period is accompanied by internal changes related to the production and ejaculation of sperm. In girls, the first sign of sexual characteristics at puberty is the appearance of breasts as well as pubic laxity. Internal changes refer to the maturation of the entire reproductive system. The first menstruation usually occurs later, usually around the age of 12.
    The second change is cognitive. Thinking changes from concrete to abstract and this gives the adolescent completely new possibilities of mental operations. Their thinking becomes more advanced, effective and complex. Adolescents become more capable of thinking about what is possible and not just about what is real, which means they can think hypothetically. He can think more and more about abstract ideas, which means that he understands riddles, metaphors, analogies, etc. more easily. He has an increasing ability to think about interpersonal relations, politics, philosophy, religion, etc. In this period, the person is more and more occupied with the process of thinking - metacognition, where the result can be emphasized introspection (noticing one's own psychological processes). A potentially negative product of this phase can be egocentrism - self-absorption. Thinking itself is becoming more and more multidimensional, without staying in just one area. And what is a big difference in the way of thinking compared to childhood, adolescents understand things more often as relative and not as absolute, they question the intentions of others and do not accept the absolute truth.
    The third group of changes includes emotional changes. Adolescence is characterized by numerous emotional changes characterized by a changed way of experiencing oneself and an increasing ability to function independently. Only intellectual maturation and changes in the way of thinking lead to the fact that the adolescent begins to experience himself in a different and more complex way. When they were children, adolescents described themselves relatively simply, while now, in adolescence, they describe themselves much more complex and abstract. As their perception of themselves becomes more abstract, they become more interested in their own personality and behavior. During this period, the adolescent exhibits significant and rapid mood swings. Changes in body, way of thinking, relationships with others disturb the adolescent who often perceives them as frightening. Emotional instability (caused by all the aforementioned changes and additionally increased hormonal activity) is a part of growing up and adolescent events. Depression is very common among adolescents, often as a result of a loss, divorce, etc. The most important loss in the life of an adolescent is the change in relations with parents, but the cause of moodiness can also be relations with friends. You can read more about emotional changes in this age of life here
    Social changes are reflected in the importance of an increasing number of peers. During this period, the relationship with society changes in importance and structure. The time an adolescent spends with his peers is getting longer than before. Socializing is now in increasingly large peer groups, and school serves more to locate a friend within its social hierarchy. Peer influence is increasingly strong during this period and it can often be negative when the adolescent begins to do things that are not socially acceptable. During this period, the need for intimacy increases, where confiding in friends becomes very important. One of the significant social changes in adolescence is the emergence of romantic and sexual relationships. For most adolescents, the first sexual experience falls into the category of "autoerotic behavior" that they experience on their own, which includes erotic fantasies and masturbation.
    The last change that accompanies adolescence is a change in a person's behavior. Various challenges in this period of life lead the adolescent to experiment with new forms of behavior. This experimentation also results in the appearance of more risky ones forms of behavior that represent a normal part of adolescence. These behaviors are in the service of the adolescent to shape his identity, try out new decision-making abilities, develop a realistic assessment of himself, gain peer acceptance and respect. However, some risks pose a great danger to adolescents and therefore always require control, guidance and direction by parents. Certain negative forms of behavior often lead adolescents into problematic behavior such as alcohol abuse, unwanted pregnancy, communicable diseases, school failure or dropping out of school, crime, delinquency and similarly.

So in a certain way, attention-seeking behaviors come from a place that most of us can understand. Sometimes the attention-seeking behaviors are motivated by a feeling of loneliness, and social media is a fake solution for that.

I really feel guilty for behaving with my parents like that. They are nice. But no matter how hard I try to control myself... I will behave rudely with them. The reasons could be that I hold grudges towards them... Or something like that or maybe it's just has become my habit? I really suffer intense guilt for doing this... I hope I could change.

This matter continued for a few seconds, and he looked away and continued his way, perhaps, but then she looked at her friend and said, perhaps he was looking at her friend because sheHe was close to her and she thought he was looking at her and she was also looking at him or she said maybe he wasn't looking at her either And he looked behind her, and there was something or his friend behind her, or he was looking for the class in which we would study, and he finished. So in other words it's more about how much trigger resistance you have rather than what techniques you use but yes if you manage to think calmly about the situation you will certainly come up with a better solution compared to an outburst...

And there lays a strange concept that knowledge tends to make think in a more absolute way, yet absolute thinking is not bad but knowing how to apply it like a seasoning is the trick often sat in perception yet also perception can stick to what has been seen before hence knowledge and experience are two distinct yet interconnected concepts but methods in what is applied may not be flawed as much as knowing a that it must adjust to situation.
    Am I an overthinker? Yes, but it can be an asset.

    I watched this video because my current job is in jeopardy and my boss says it's because I have trouble with "emotional regulation." I'm autistic and I had a much harder time controlling my emotions as a kid, reacting very loudly to mean or unpredictable things when other people thought it wasn't called for. I'd like to think I'm better at handling these things now, but apparently it's not good enough for the office, so at this point I don't know what to do. All my life people have been telling me to think before I react, but that's way easier said than done. My thoughts and plans for the day are like a house, a safe place that I built, and the mean or unpredictable things other people do are like someone setting the house on fire or crashing a car through the window. That's not something you just react calmly to. Any advice?

    @silkyflower3188 Před rokem

    While this does explain the massive decline in emotional health compared to previous decades, there are definitely some things that I do not agree with here.
    1. People are not all either conflict-avoidant or conflict-seeking. Nothing about the human mind is black-and-white like that. In fact, I find that most people are somewhere in between. A truly conflict avoidant person despises conflict to the point that even things like competing in a board game does not appeal to them. They will engage in conflict only when absolutely necessary. My mother is this way. On the opposite side of the coin, people who truly seek conflict, like my dad, will instinctively contradict others and switch sides in an argument, just to keep the argument going. My sister, a special education teacher, says that this is very common among people with Asperger’s Syndrome. More toward the middle of the spectrum on conflict seeking/avoidance are two types: the “go-getters” and the “go-with-the-flow” types. The first group consists of people who are highly competitive. They don’t shy away from conflict, but they don’t necessarily enjoy it either. The second group is able to compete for fun, but tends to shy away away from other types of conflict when they can. I am more of the first type, but my best friend is the second.
    2. Being “dramatic” does not mean you are attention-seeking, nor does it mean that you lack the ability to regulate your emotions. SOME of us just have very lively personalities and cannot help but be a bit dramatic at times. If emotions are a form of energy, then ours cannot help but burst out. That’s not to say we can’t control our outbursts-we learn how to clamp down on our more negative emotions to prevent them from running amok-but it does mean that ALL of our emotions are very big. So when we’re happy, EVERYONE knows it. It’s not that we have ADHD (for many of us, our attention spans are perfectly fine), but we do have a lot of energy, and we don’t often bother to contain that which doesn’t cause any harm. Incidentally, for people like myself whose lively nature means that our emotions are very big, being able to clamp down and contain our reactions temporarily doesn’t mean we can get away with not releasing them later on. We have to take time to unleash that energy in a safe environment-whether it’s crying and screaming into a pillow or beating the mattress with our fists, that’s part of how we process and work through our feelings. Just because it doesn’t LOOK like emotional regulation from the more mellow person’s perspective doesn’t mean that isn’t what it is.

    • @silkyflower3188
      @silkyflower3188 Před rokem

      With regards to my second point, I will point out that while I am dramatic IRL, I am actually very private about my emotions online. Likewise, being dramatic by nature does not make you a gossip, nor does it mean that you enjoy gossip. I actually abhor gossip and generally avoid people that I know are prone to gossiping about others, spreading unfounded rumors, or simply failing to check the facts.
      Yes, I am dramatic by nature, and yes, I do have trouble regulating my emotions as a result of trauma-though this is partially because people often confuse *regulating* emotions with *suppressing* them.
      But I’m also private about my personal disagreements and I despise gossip.

It’s not that I didn’t appreciate it but I didn’t know how I was supposed to react. Other times even at the tiniest things I would start throwing a tantrum and start screaming throwing pillows. I guess I’m not really good at acting for the least of it 😅 I really do want to be able to control my feelings and have normal reactions to things at the right times. this was a kind of weird, unempathetic view of emotional dysregulation. I sent it to a friend so he could understand my bipolar and then i was watching it and had to message him and tell him not to watch it. What is up with calling people drama queens or implying they are manipulative for having these issues? really tacky.
