  • Fixing a squealing screeching condenser AC fan motor without replacing the fan motor is possible. This video is a temporary instant repair until you receive your replacement fan motor. How long will this work? I've seen it last anywhere from a few days to a few months. You will eventually need to replace your motor...

    I saw this last winter and my 14 year old son and I took the fan off similarly to your instructions on the video and oiled the shaft. It's been a whole year and it didn't squeak one time!! It was very rainy and freezing weather this past week and we heard it squeak a tiny bit. We are gonna do it again tomorrow and have a fan motor for back up! Great video, much appreciated!♥️

    Wonderful Video. Thank you Sir for taking time to share.. DIY videos like this are so valuable. Don't know about you but my hair stands on end when I have to call an A/C repairman. It is hard to trust someone when they say your AC is toast & you need to come up with $10,000. My fear centers around my ignorance of heating and A/C. I have actually replaced a fan motor before. It saved me hundreds of $$$. Just make sure, as stated in the video, you cut the power.

    Man, Just did mine in no time! Thanks! Went to use the toilet which is near the window of the A/C unit... heard a rattling, screeching sound. I'm like,, "Great... A/C is breaking. Sounds like a bearing or something!" SO, yeah just removed the 4 nuts from the guard, (did remove the power shut off, of course!) flipped the whole thing over, and all I had was some really good gun oil, synthetic, so I poured some of that in. No more noise so far!"

    Thanks for this video. I did exactly what you did for myself but I used bicycle chain spray and then lubed with some left over motor car synthetic oil I had from my oil change. My thinking with the lubes were WD40 would lube the bearing but also clean it and therefore drain out and dry more quickly. Bicycle chain oil will clean but not run out. Then the motor car oil will be thicker and not thin and run out quickly. Also motor car oil is made to perform at lower and higher temperatures. I believe a worn bearing will generate higher temperatures and therefore drain and dry out any lube like WD40 in comparison to a new bearing which will operate at a lower temperature.
    The fan motor is now quiet. Thank you.

    This is the reason I don't like permanently lubricated motors. The bearings fail due to a lack of lubrication, the motor then has to be replaced. The old ones had a front and rear oil port, you oiled them about once every other month or so and they would last many many years, but people don't want to do maintenance on things, and companies don't want things to last, so they made "permanently lubricated motors, the only difference is the bearings are sealed, so you can't easily and properly oil them.

    • @richespino6042
      @richespino6042 Před 2 lety

      Oh, wow. I didn't even know that was a thing. I would definitely prefer having oil ports instead of what we have now where disassembly is required.

    • @WalterKnox
      @WalterKnox Před 2 lety

      @@richespino6042 yeah, it is sad that they don't have them anymore. but the truth is (especially for smaller motors like in window units) they generally say to lubricate them yearly, and if this is done with the proper oil, they will last for a long time. The issue is that even though the oil ports are easily accessible, people did not do it, and the bearings went bad quicker as they are not sealed at all. Also, people would use the wrong oil (like WD-40 or 3 in one multi purpose) and that would also cause pre-mature failure. So yes, if everyone did what they were supposed to do, it would be a much better thing, the truth is that maybe 10% of people would.

      That would be the only thing that could make a sound like that. It's dry bearings. The rest of the components aside from the compressor have no moving parts, and the compressor would make a very different sound and, in my opinion, is far less likely to wear out. 20 years ago that would have been fixed by lubricating the bearings which would last another 2-5 years till next lubrication. Now it's just replace stuff and toss it in the trash. Society has gotten so anti-environment nowadays. We should be more green.

      I turn the fan motor over and drip 6 drops of 3 in 1 down the shaft. It’s a closed bearing, but it solved it for 6 years. Just had to drip some again after those 6 years. I’m running it until the motor dies or the bearings seize.

    WD-40 is NOT lubricant, it's a solvent!

      It's possible to be more than one thing...but should I use my liquid teflon instead for this job?

    I am unsubscribing. That very unpleasant screeching noise caused me to go deaf. I am very unhappy with this.
