I'm from Singapore and watching this made me miss my childhood times! Gosh those snacks are hard to find on shelf supermarket nowadays!
faezzah hussin ya ... and usually it's in the neighbourhood mama shops ... some of them
yah! the mama shop snacks are amazing
the mama shop near my house from when i was young closed and replaced with another one ... and now theres lesser variety of the snacks *crais*
faezzah hussin I am from Singapore as well. You can still get them from ur neighbourhood's MAMA shop! :)
serious?! Why so lucky?!!! I guess my mama shop is kind of lousy coz they those have those~ )):
I'm glad you were so open-minded toward other countries' cultures, this is so unlike those other controversial food tasting videos on CZcams. And I've to point out that not every stuffs shown in your video is meant for young children, the lemon tablets rolled up in golden wrapper and the preserved fruit in tiny bits(after Haw flakes) can be used for motion sickness by sucking them slowly in small quantity.
I know some people cannot tolerate the smell of dried shredded cuttlefish especially processed ones, you can lightly toast the cuttlefish as it is on a frying pan without any grease added to remove the raw odor.
Dried cuttlefish is a delicacy but expensive, what was showcased here is just an cheaper version. If you are daring enough to try them again, try to get the superior ones which is often packed in nearly transparent packets, the cuttlefish should be in sheet forms. Keep up the good work. :)
Thankyou
yes!! especially the Spicy Sugary Cuttlefish type!
White rabbit is the best! One of the childhood candies I've grown up with.
loved them
There's supposed to be a small packet of powdered flavoring for the MAMEE!!! There's why you would have to 'crunch it, SHAKE IT, munch it'!! That powder is the BOMB man!
Cool
i tried puting 5 in one mamee ... have you drank salt water after puting more salt in it ? it taste like hardcore salt which is flavoured
I tried putting 7 straight into my mouth...I somehow love it.
I prefer the one with powder, now one dont taste that great
Your descriptions of the treats are always awesome, definitely my favorite part!
cheers always an experience and the unknown
I'm from Singapore. It's hard to find these snacks already! These are the best things from my childhood. Barry, your responses are priceless!
Ah~ the memories ~
:-)
I love how you reply to all the comments! Your the only big youtuber to do that!
I try my best to reply to everyone
Barry Lewis I love you.
no man no! the ling mong tablets u not suppose to chew it unless u need a quick wake up fix other than coffee.jus suck on it for normal consumption.guess westerners only can take in sweet stuff?lols...alot of them are childhood snacks...hard to find some of the stuff nowsadays...
btw ling mong means lemon.
Thanks for info
Ling Mong = Lemon in Chinese. Don't know how licorice got in that. Or perhaps I don't know what is licorice lol. I loved those sweets.
Barry Lewis the last treat was it chewing gums? because chewing gums are actually not sold in Singapore because its illegal
+William Tan are you kidding me bruh. Are you from Singapore at all? And did you watch his video FROM THE START? It's obvious "chewing gum of the orientals" doesn't literally mean that its chewing gum... It's just something chewy that resembles the chewiness of chewing gum. It's dried squid...
yeah but chewing gums are not allowed to be sold at Singapore
Although I'm from Singapore I barely see any of these on the shelfs in supermarkets and most of these look more like they are from Malaysia or Indonesia
Iecon has them
so thats why
they do sell in mama shop! =D
lol
milnnelg ya they do sell it at the mama shop for less then two dollars
I am from Singapore too and I am a big fan. Continue to make funny and amazing videos, you are doing a splendid job of keeping people entertained
I live in Singapore and I love mame and white rabbit! There my faves.
some cool stuff!
I'm from sg too
Try chicken satay with peanut sause ;) you'll love it
I am also from Singapore !
Did you ever eat the chicken satay with peanut sause :P
I live in Singapore. Haven't seen some of the first few sweets you showed. The White Rabbit was one of my favourites too! And Ling Mong is like romanticised Chinese for lemon. The Sochew's are pretty good as well. And the pizza sticks also come in a lot of flavours other than just pizza. Love the Haw Flakes. They're made from the Chinese Hawthorn and sugar.
This is amazing! Brings back my childhood ☺️ thanks for the funny and amazing video! ❤️
I like that you are super honest about how you feel about them. Most people are afraid to say they don't like something.
haha gotta be honest!
All the fabulous food from the olden days of SG....I love it
omg this is all my childhood Singaporean candy! haven't had these in AGESSSS so major nostalgia happening here! I was born in the 90s, so yeah these candies were super popular back when we were in primary school. I'm guessing from the comments that these sweets aren't so popular anymore, but I guess that's because we have more imported candy coming in lately so these are mostly forgotten. Still brilliant though! tempted to go get me some soon too!
I love your enthusiasm!
thanks I love you loving the enthusiasm
Hi Barry , so glad to see you enjoy all those goodies , hope you can try more in the future , I would love to send you some!
Most of the snacks featured, were my fav childhood snacks. We used to save our 50 cents together and share around our friends while we play some football after school. Thank you Barry Lewis for featuring Singaporean snacks. Its great to have your perspective on it. :)
Love your video, come to Singapore some day to try out more of our delicious food! (Coming from Singapore~)
the white rabbit inner wrapper isn't gelatin lol its rice paper :)
awesome
(Btw) you can get the white rabbit ones in London!!! I'm vegetarian so I can't eat them:(
Some people do not know they can eat the paper inside.
Freddy- they contain real rabbit?!?
I watched this more than 5 times and loved it!
I think I'm slightly getting addicted to your channel, I love when you make the giant food with your friend , so funny !!!!!
thanks luke
love haw flakes and white rabbit. actually i like everything in the video lol
ew no except for the cuttlefish
icedwhite mocha the cuttlefish is good. XD i like salty stuff idk why but its good. And he was supposed to eat it like a small little piece. Thats why it was too dry. Just sayinn
Abigael Yong I can't stand the smell of dried cuttlefish idk why haha. love everything else though. brings back memories of primary school tbh :D
yeshhhh ikrrrrr icedwhite mocha

Haw flakes are my childhood love em

I'm from singapore and all those things you tried brought back so much memories!

I'm Singaporean but I only know 2 of the items
it means that u dont have much of a childhood.
I've heard of 5. GO MAMEE!!!!!!
I know most
I knew and tired like 10 of it
im also from singapore but most of them are hard to find already but they do exist in the 90s
Heyyy, this is my first time watching a video of yours, and I really appreciate how you don't criticize any of the food you taste even if you don't like it. I think it is very considerate and really shows how nice you are as a person.
Majority of them are snacks I ate during my childhood days. The best! Love from SG!
Your reactions are cute in a funny way
:)
Omg! The mamee was a childhood fav of mine!
loved mamee
Try eating it without breaking it apart! It's like a hugeee biscuit. LOL! Did you try the seasoning that came with it too? A little salty but it tastes good~
yep seasoning was on there! loved it to try it as a biscuit is a good excuse to get some more
I'm Singaporean and I think this video is quite great. Some Singaporeans here may not have seen it before because they may have rarely been to mama stores, which is not a rare thing. I can remember most of these candies from my childhood so this video was quite enjoyable. (not saying i recognise ALL but yeah basically yeah). Great job!:)
Haha your reactions are hilarious! It's good to know that you like so many of our snacks :)
XD I'm singaporean but I haven't even tried some of those things. Some I don't even know existed
Me too
Shows that you're very young.
they can be found in mama shops like those shops below HDBs and stuff
***** yeah but i tell those in simei and tampines, tampines east near east view secondary and gongshang theres one mama shop behind the bus stop, one in front of ngee ann secondary, one near the library and after one stop of the library, simei theres one near mrt i think n the rest are gone i think
***** nice!
Nice one Barry, some interesting looking snacks mate :)
for sure
wow, the person who sent you the treat is awesome! All these are our childhood snacks from Singapore ;) glad you loved the White rabbit sweet! It is one of our childhood sweets during kindergarten and primary school. hahahaha
im from singapore and im watching this!!!!!yay thanks for likeing our food/snaks
Ling Mong Tablets are essentially lemon tablets! it's kinda sour with a lil salty taste! basically you have to let the tablet dissolve in your mouth, you can chew it, but beware of the sour and salty taste! Haw Flakes are made from chinese hawthorn fruit, it have the lil weird smell but i think it taste pretty okay :D Lastly yes you can swallow the Ken Ken cuttlefish! just eat it strip by strip aye?
I am a Singaporean but i haven't tried the "Ding Dang" sweet yet. omg hahahahaha. I love hawflakes tho. teeheeXD
I don't think you can find the ding dang sweets now. BTW it's called ding dang because it's Xiao Ding Dang aka Doraemon.
Singapore don't sell ding dang anymore.Last time I love to buy at my fav mama shop but now the ding dang no more =(
InfernusGuy Gaming its rare now... The last time I have seen it was like years ago..
ok
Me too
Cheers from Singapore! Love all your videos~ stay awesome! ^^
Haha love your enthusiasm when you try those!
As for the mamee, your missing the seasoning packet! we use to pour the seasoning directly into our mouths haha
lol I eat the noodles without seasoning. I keep the seasoning to make soup and keep in Thermo flask. When I'm cold or thirsty, ta-daaa. Instant noodle soup. :)
IKR XD
They don't have it any more :( they made changes to Mamee and already took the seasoning packet away for quite some time now...
its seperate i think
yea...those were the good old 90s....
dont know if u rmb, there were also small free toys/stickers.i used to keep the pokemon evolving tiny cards until a year ago when i did a massive clean out XD
reminds me of good old childhood memories (:
:(
Ohmygod. Everything you tried were my childhood snacks and candies. Its legend! Its sooooooo hard to find them in Singapore now! You're lucky!
I M from singapore too:D so glad others are accepting our food make me and the rest the singaporeans feel good if u can do part 2 will be looking foward to it
I'm Singaporen, but is it weird I have never ate SOME of them before? 😂😂😂

same i agree
True dat
+Hebe Wxy True. I have never tried before most of them. Except the white rabbit candy, ken ken, yan yan and mamee
90s kids should know all this hahaha
Barry do you what would be funny if you done the bean boozled challenge
I'm singaporean and I got waaaaaaay too excited when I saw the white rabbit milk candy. They are so goooooood!!!
Mikado is just the name for Pocky made here, you're correct relating the two though, the Glico brand makes the Pocky too 🙎
ah awesome
3 minutes into the vid i already knew we had the same taste in food cause everytime i said " You're gonna love that " you actually love it and everytime I said "NO NO THAT TASTES HORRIBLE" to you it actually tasted horrible ahhaha xD
so throughout the vud I kept saying either "You'll like that" or "That's gross"xD
Aliya Aishah omg i love your profile picture #DateALive #TeamTohka
Its because you either ate it before n it tastes horrible n he thinks it too you can read his mind!!! XD
Do you like ken ken basically i only tried hlaf of these old kind, some you can find in supermarket like ken ken, others at ma ma shops i wanna try the magic pops and the POP the chicken cripy thing

You're so funny! Glad you're loving some of our fav Singapore childhood snacks!!! ^^
12:16 ... when he placed a handful, i was dying in laughter, we will only put 1 in our mouth.. hahahaha #SingaporeFTW
Eating a handful is more awesome

WadMizard ZOL i used to do that 😂
I dump a handful jn my mouth though😂. it taste good but for first try of course its a new taste for him
same
Your buddy should have let you try the Bobdog sweets. Sugar loving cigarette looking sweets.
Yeah!Especially the strawberry flavored ones!
great video! watching all the way from Singapore :) watching your video gave me a really warm sense of nostalgia! sadly these snacks are becoming rarer and rarer :(
Omg the memories
I love all the candies!!!especially the eyeglass candy
Barry,Singaporeans like licorice, spicy food like Chili Crab which is so spicy, and they like tea
chili crab yum!
Man haven't eaten that in awhile man. Now i feel like eating it.
Chili crab is like one of Singapores a signature dish
I'm Singaporean and Out of all this,I only tried white rabbit and the Apollo thing.
I'm also Singaporean and those two are my childhood treats
yep the white rabbit milk candies are still & always our favorite!!
I'm from Singapore and LOL your reactions are hilarious! You earned yourself a subscriber :)
Too bad ovaltine is getting less popular cuz i remember 2 yrs back thats were ovaltine in like a packet n u make a drink with it and there are like little cruchy things inside but now there are only those that dont have it. For the cuttlefish theres a type where they put dried cuttlefish with sugar and man! Those taste fantastic!
ikr.. with the success of milo, ovaltine and horlicks are so underrated. :( i remember the ovaltine biscuits. those were so delicious! now i can hardly find then anywhere.
Krissy oh those! Those taste amazing too! But i am not really a big fan of biscuits that are like cookies
Ha the oval time drink got the crunchy small ball things it's really good
Obeyclara Wzw i know right! But i dont see them in cold storage(used to go there and buy),sheng siong, ntuc even prime market which is near my grandma's house used to find it there
Having sushi tonight! :D :D :D I love sushi
Hahah really great to see how others enjoy our food ^^ the reaction to the ling mon was really funny hahah!
Yea , you can eat the white rabbit sweets with the " second wrapper " I love that the most since young !
im singaporean and I've never tried half of those there. and the small disc like stuff that look like ham that are sweet? they are actually imported from china.
and the chewing gum stuff? they can deff be swallowed. chewing gum was banned in singapore more than 10 years ago because people were stuffing gum into doors of subway trains and all over the place. it was too difficult to clean up especially after a long time, the gum dried up and it was like..... Anyways the government thought that it wasn't good for your health anyway and decided to ban it
Are u ryo from Rosyth??
Ya same here @ryo seah
OMG you have to go to the nearest mama shop and get them it's called 山楂 and buy those.
Chewing gum is legal as of a few months ago...
Ling mong is lemon.
Pop one tablet in your beer and it taste wonderful. Try it.
It's sour plum not lemon
DiamondEagle sour plum is suan mei, ling mong is lemon
But is tastes like sour plum(is it unhealthy if I eat it 10 times every week btw)
If u eat 10 tablets a week is ok, not the 10 whole roll
Oh XD what unhealthy stuff does it have?
wow! great video! you make me miss my childhood so much
I have had Haw flakes- in Hawaii where alot of different countries food can be found, I liked them.
Most of these are not really "Singapore" foods
HAHAHA his reaction to the ling mong tablets x'D honestly as a singaporean I have never seen half of these sweet treats before :P
sameee haha
really? i've seen all of them before but some are hard to find now. most were popularly eaten in the 1990s. age-gap man hahaha
im in my teens now. yeah probably i wasn't even born back then, the first 3 i didn't know
All good fun
All of my childhood treats :-) Love this video!
So many old candies that are rarely found in singapore nowadays! My childhood candies!!
I like when ang mohs try asian food and go :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hahahaha hope you enjoy Singapore snacks, actually there are more you haven't taste !
Omg I used to eat them all the time! Reminded me of my childhood days, awesome!!! It's kinda hard to find them now tho
Great video I love watching these! They make me hungry haha!
thanks
I swear some of those sweets are from Thailand. O_O"
Those 'rabbit poo' is basically like sour plum
Ah ok
It is lemonnnnnnnn
no sour plum cause it is sour...basically supoosed to take one at a time cause it is really sour.
As a Singaporean I'm feeling nostalgic watching you eat all my childhood fav food. And I totally cracked up when you couldn't take the licorice :') super funny
Watching this video was so much fun!
Lol I think he's getting high from all that sugar he's eating
Most of these are popular snacks in the 80s which can't be found in regular shops or supermarkets anymore. I doubt the kids nowadays have even seen them before. Didn't know they can still be found until I stumbled upon your vid. Great vid by the way, very entertaining!
I live in SG, and this is like OUR FAV everrr.
These are all my childhood favorite snacks!
Ahhhhhh my entire childhood in this video! :) :) :) :) it's such a pity mama shops are diminishing (can't find one within my neighbourhood) and it's really hard to get some of those nowadays :( btw, I really LOVE your commentary! :)
I live in singapore and some of this stuff are no longer on sale but some are still available at the mama shop.
Ken ken btw is dried squid so its safe to consume.
Mamee is basically deep fried noodles.
And the pretz is just pretzel sticks and there are may flavours actually
Ling mong means lemon, and haw flakes are just made from hawthorns.
i enjoyed watching this vid cos it made me happy to see ppl enjoying treats from my country haha :p
Yay Singapore!!! A lot of these snacks are from my childhood!! :)
Omg! I grew up eating most of them! Such awesome memories... My favourite is the Ovaltine choc tablets!
"can you swallow ken ken"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
glad you enjoyed the singapore treats! hope you can come down here and try more in the future
Im from Singapore.. n im sure glad u tasted sum of our old time favs.. :)
thanks a bunch some great stuff
omg i laughed until i cried, choked getting my breath back, and laughed some more....wow you are hysterical!
Glad you are enjoying our food, you are indeed awesome!
It's quite interesting to hear descriptions of all these snacks we grew up with as a kid by a newbie. The only thing I've never tried was Ding Dang, which just looks like an imitation Doraemon. Ate all the things wrong though.... It lies in HOW you eat it. With small uncoordinated kid fingers and a bit at a time.
OMG. I used to love the eye mask candy thing. My mum bought it in boxes and I would bring a few to school for snacks each day.
You're lucky to have such Singaporean fans , cause some of these Treats isn't so easy to find around Singapore !
Hi I am from singapore and i am glad that you like our snacks:)
