The speculoospasta was develloped during the tvshow De Uitvinders (The Inventors) some years ago. It was an ordinary officeworker who came up with the idea. She started up an agreement with Lotus, the Belgian company famous for it speculooscookies. She earned a lot of money with it. Lotus made the speculoospasta big in Belgium and later on the rest of Europe... Too bad for our Dutch friends but speculoospasta is really a Belgian invention.

On-voor-stel-baar. Die arrogantie! Not cool! Er zijn vast genoeg *echt* Nederlandse/Hollandse producten die ze kunnen promoten.

    • @GeertDelmulle
      @GeertDelmulle Před 9 lety +1

Als jullie dat denken en het ook écht menen: ga dan naar de rechtbank en haal je gelijk. Voor de rest: stop met onze producten te recupereren.

Anne Zomer There are a bunch of products that could be categorized as both Flemish and Dutch, and stroopwafels are one of them. They've long been a staple of fairs/carnivals in Flanders, oldest use of them that I know of is 1848 (which, granted, is a few decades after their first recorded use in the Netherlands).
Dutch (sic) dumplings/oliebollen/smoutebollen are another example of a product that has long since been popular in both countries. As are candy apples/toffee apples/pommes d'amour/kak van Maria/whatever other name they might have.

Please please please English people, stop saying 'French' fries. Please. This is not correct. Fries where created in Belgium. Or in France. nobody knows. But it is definitely not France (yes I'm Belgian). Just say fries. Without the smelly 'French' before. From the heart of the people here in Belgium, thank you.
PS: It's always funny to ear french word from an English mouth XD, but i guess it is the same the other way around. And by the way, it is 'omelette AU fromage' for those who didn't know.
Sorry for any mistakes, i still learn English.

      G. Dewert the term "French" was introduced when British and American soldiers arrived in Belgium during World War I and consequently tasted Belgian (Flemish) fries. They supposedly called them "French", as it was the official language of the Belgian Army at that time, believing themselves to be in France. So the term "French fries" was growing popular but we (Belgians) prefer the term Belgian or Flemish fries.

Little story about the ''speculoospasta''. Speculoos is a very famous cookie in Belgium. And a couple years ago there was a show, ''de bedenkers'' (translated: the inventors). People who invented something could enter the show. And this wormen used to make a kind of paste of the speculoos cookies. She won the show and the company Lotus now makes the paste. The woman gets €0.01 for every pot thats been sold. A,D because so many people buy it, she now is very rich. GREETZ FROM BELGIUM : D

And the stroopwafels are soooo dutch. Yes they maybye honey instead of stroop but anyway it is dissaponting to see there are not like belgium bonbons or chocalete where belgium is fammous for. I am from Holland so i now. And those patatochips are also sold all over holland. In a.h and other stores. They are tasting really good but they are not aspecially from België but oke it is nice you send that to barry. And this is no hate mail Just my observation. DarkFlames +EnjoyMyProfile The honey waffle doesn't taste like Stroopwaffles, and you can't attach Speeculoos only to Holland (there is also a speculoos-like cookies in Germany). It's absolutely ridiculous to believe that the current political borders between our countries have anything to do with culture and traditions, especially in countries that aren't even 1000 years old as they stand today. We share a common cultural background because we live so close together in the same area of the world and we have been mixing and sharing for thousands of years. It's useless to try to bring up hate and nationalism over food. We should enjoy it as something we share, not as some identity item that we need to fight over.

valentina del bello Hard to say were speculoos originates from, since you find it in Belgium, NL, North of France and West of Germany. The difference is the recipe, personally I prefer the soft ones from Belgium. Btw, I guess the original recipe dates back to when Belgium and Netherlands were one, this might explain the blur on the real origins.

omg... I love Speculoos... my grandfather is from Belgium and I've actually been there twice.. i had the cookies, but I dont ever remember seeing the spread... i'd love to try some of that. Belgian chocolate is like the best ever... I remember how good the fries were.. mmm and yes i do get the whole dip them in mayonnaise thing from my grandfather... yum.
omg... butter crisps! those were definitely my second favorite snack out there aside from the speculoos cookies . how i wish i were back there right now

Here, in Belgium, we use "le sirop de Liège" to cook the "sauce lapin", it's a sauce you do with beer, meatballs and onions. You eat it with Belgain fries. It's really delicious, you have to try it!

I'm not back in the mother country that often nowadays, but you're DEFINITELY not supposed to eat the sirup by the spoonful. Not unless you're in uni and being promised a twenty for finishing the jar in five minutes. It's basically jam concentrate; a little goes a long, long way.

Speculoospasta is indeed a paste of spiced bisquit.
Cuberdons are too sugary for me too.
    Jenever means geneva.
Guylian is pronounced Gillian. (Like in Gillian Anderson)
Honey waffles are indeed similiar to stroopwafels.
Luikse siroop or Sirop de Liège is not that good in my opinion. But I get why people like it.
    Nice vid. ^^
