fatma army OMG HIIIII
+Aline Derez hallo :)
+Aline Derez :D
hallo!! 😁
The speculoospasta was develloped during the tvshow De Uitvinders (The Inventors) some years ago. It was an ordinary officeworker who came up with the idea. She started up an agreement with Lotus, the Belgian company famous for it speculooscookies. She earned a lot of money with it. Lotus made the speculoospasta big in Belgium and later on the rest of Europe... Too bad for our Dutch friends but speculoospasta is really a Belgian invention.
On-voor-stel-baar. Die arrogantie! Not cool!
geert van puyvelde Its so funny that u just copy our Dutch Stroopwafels and call them Honey Waffles, in real stroopwafels there is no honey.
Sander Valk yes its as funny as the dutch copied the white beer from hoegaarden ...lol
Anne Zomer There are a bunch of products that could be categorized as both Flemish and Dutch, and stroopwafels are one of them. They've long been a staple of fairs/carnivals in Flanders, oldest use of them that I know of is 1848 (which, granted, is a few decades after their first recorded use in the Netherlands).
Dutch (sic) dumplings/oliebollen/smoutebollen are another example of a product that has long since been popular in both countries. As are candy apples/toffee apples/pommes d'amour/kak van Maria/whatever other name they might have.
The Chips, or french Fries, are not French, the "French Fries" in France are disgusting, like their beer
What?! Do the French actually make beer?...
Geert Delmulle no, they just call it beer but it is really just pisswater...
TheTomtaru that made my day
True
+NEVER_AGAIN it is believed that US soldier named them as french fries because they were served by french ( and thought they were in France) speakers in wallonia during WW2
When you walk on the Meir and you smell the waffles in the entire street
+Chloé Eleonore The little waffle store :)
zo waar
This makes me cry? I miss Antwerp!!
Please please please English people, stop saying 'French' fries. Please. This is not correct. Fries where created in Belgium. Or in France. nobody knows. But it is definitely not France (yes I'm Belgian). Just say fries. Without the smelly 'French' before. From the heart of the people here in Belgium, thank you.
PS: It's always funny to ear french word from an English mouth XD, but i guess it is the same the other way around. And by the way, it is 'omelette AU fromage' for those who didn't know.
Sorry for any mistakes, i still learn English.
God you are totally right! Fries were not invented in France!! They are NOT french fries. I am also half belgian and I hate it when people say french fries.
G. Dewert the term "French" was introduced when British and American soldiers arrived in Belgium during World War I and consequently tasted Belgian (Flemish) fries. They supposedly called them "French", as it was the official language of the Belgian Army at that time, believing themselves to be in France. So the term "French fries" was growing popular but we (Belgians) prefer the term Belgian or Flemish fries.
I think "french fries" 'cause they are made in the french part of belgium = wallony...
In fact... I am in the flemish part btw
Billy Bob I live in Romania btw :)
He should have eaten a Bicky Burger.
Inderdaad inderdeed
yup true !!!!!!!
Die dingen zijn zo goed
Leen Landerloo indeed* 😉
I didn't know about that microwave trick. Thank you, Amber!
Amber Dyck Misschien best eventjes Nederlands spreken. :p
Heerlijk :)
Jane Diamondnose al die goede ideeën hier !
I went to Belgium 2 years ago and stayed near Ghent, all the food was delicious! (if you're on holiday near Ghent then you should definitely eat at Amadeus!) I had a cote d'or chocolate probably everyday and I even tried the Belgian fries with mayo and they were so good. definitely recommend Belgium if you're into food and interesting and pretty places
Im from belgium !

I'm so proud of my country , we just have the best treats in the world! ♥
Fries we're made in belgium NOT in france
Its made eceryshere , but the best are in belgium , and the name .. I dont now why it is "french fries" and not belgium fries
Everywhere*
Levy Bals 50 percent of belgium is french speaking, and a french speaking belgian invented it
Put the Fruit Syrup thing on toast + a slice of cheese. Actually a dutch thing called "appelstroop" (Apple Syrup) and adding the cheese is very old fashioned but so so good
I'm from Belgium and it was funny how you pronounced some words.
ja echt eh 😂😂😂
same lol
+Merlino ja he
I am from belgium and i feel so good right now it is a great compliment tanks🤗
Would love to try some British treats. Thanks for all the great videos Barry. Your biggest fan - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA.
Yup...Belgium has the best food in Europe....take that France
Tim Heye not only from europe. from the entire world. :)
What about Neuhaus and Leonidas? How could you forget them??
Jane Diamondnose I don't speak dutch, I only speak French and English
o alright , i said what is neuhaus, cause i never heard of that before
Jane Diamondnose Neuhaus is a really old Belgian chocolate. You should try it
alright :)
Barry Lewis (as you mentioned) you can get the Lotus biscuit spread now from UK supermarkets, in both smooth and CRUNCHY!! Oh very yes.
I'm from Belgium too (I'm from the german speaking community DG) and it's quiet sad, that Leonidas hasn't been in the video...anyways, you did a great job! Greetings from Belgium! :D
That wig's reminding me of what your hair used to look like :D
He said côte d'or so wrong, you have to say it the french way.
+lieven Van loo and thats te problem. its like a dutchmen trying to talk english or a flemish with a heavy accent speaking frensh, aint gonna happen
+lieven Van loo To be fair to him, that 'd' looks a bit like an S
Little story about the ''speculoospasta''. Speculoos is a very famous cookie in Belgium. And a couple years ago there was a show, ''de bedenkers'' (translated: the inventors). People who invented something could enter the show. And this wormen used to make a kind of paste of the speculoos cookies. She won the show and the company Lotus now makes the paste. The woman gets €0.01 for every pot thats been sold. A,D because so many people buy it, she now is very rich. GREETZ FROM BELGIUM : D
Omg I'm so happy you tried and loved our Belgian snacks!!!
8:50 that moment when my screen actually smells like belgian waffles
+Gumballshark Same here :D
lol
Speculoospasta is from belgium, it was on a belgian tv- show " the uitvinders" or the "invetors
. The chocolate bar is sold in other countries but is from belgium.
Speculoos is amazing! It can also be found in the States as well, which makes me immensely happy. There's a similar spread over here made with Biscoff cookies, too.
A few things are not aspecialy belgium like the first chocolate on a stick. They sell them all over in holland at the lidll. And the speculoos is totaly dutch . And the stroopwafels are soooo dutch. Yes they maybye honey instead of stroop but anyway it is dissaponting to see there are not like belgium bonbons or chocalete where belgium is fammous for. I am from Holland so i now. And those patatochips are also sold all over holland. In a.h and other stores. They are tasting really good but they are not aspecially from België but oke it is nice you send that to barry. And this is no hate mail Just my observation. So don't write all b.s because it is a waste of time
Ben jij ook nederlands?
Tuoi Cao yup
What annoyed me the most is that they decribed friet speciaal as mayo ketchup and onions... ketchup... really :( its curry sauce.
when are you and Ashens going to do another video together?
yesss, as a swiss girl that used to live in london a couple years ago, i would looooove some british treats!
cuberdons. ... OMG I love it!!!
I would try some Britiah treats! I'm from Holland;)

Did u know that Gin is a failed way from Britain to recreate "Jenever"?
That Guylian seahorse brand.. I think i have finally found out what brand of chocolate it was i tried many many years ago. That deliciousness has been haunting me ever since. I must see if i can acquire some of those..
Love speculoos spread and guylian is def loved around the world. Fun video, thanks :)
I'm proud to be a Belgian ;)

Yes me 2
Me too
If you want to know, Speculaas and Speculoos are two different types of cookies. Speculaas is more like gingerbread and is softer cookie with loads of spices in the dough while Speculoos goes for a softer taste but a crunchier cookie!
We get the cookies in the UK supermarkets. Surprised he didn't mention it!
I would love to receive some Belgian treats!!! I absolutely love watching your channel. Your videos brighten my day and encourage me to try new things and recipes!!! Absolutely love Ya!!!!!
You wanted to know how to pronounce Guylian - it's "ghee-lian", a French word in origin.
Thank you :)
Just fyi:) : the chocolat company was started by Guy and his wife Liliane.
LauraLoele There you go, the more you know!
Ohh those hot chocolate sticks. Want a box stat. They are cool!
what's a box stat
10buffster
That's the Belgian equivalent of the Deluxe range of foods from Lidl. Just go to Lidl and get them haha
Stat as in 'right now' it's an abbreviated Latin term. Apparently
Jake Townsend haha or I could just buy a block & put skewers in the pieces ✌️
10buffster
Oh I see! I know nothing about Latin
That pug mug is everything !!!
YES!! Trying British treats would be amazing.
i want him to taste eat ethiopian food so i send him nothing
Stroop Waffles are from The Netherlands not from Belgium and speeculoos is a remake of the Dutch Speculaas. And I can know cuz I'm Dutch lol
DarkFlames +EnjoyMyProfile The honey waffle doesn't taste like Stroopwaffles, and you can't attach Speeculoos only to Holland (there is also a speculoos-like cookies in Germany). It's absolutely ridiculous to believe that the current political borders between our countries have anything to do with culture and traditions, especially in countries that aren't even 1000 years old as they stand today. We share a common cultural background because we live so close together in the same area of the world and we have been mixing and sharing for thousands of years. It's useless to try to bring up hate and nationalism over food. We should enjoy it as something we share, not as some identity item that we need to fight over.
Eden Zak I didn't hate about it I just said the truth lol
*****
Get off your nationalist high and get an education. Your racism is making your country look bad.
*****
It wasn't meant as an insult.
*****
You need to learn your History lesson. But I will leave it at that, because I'm tired of getting notifications from you ^^
cote d'or best chocolate ever. You really tried the best of Belgian food.
Speculoos are ginger biscuits.
The speculoos spread is recent, it's like in the uk they decided to take the humble digestive and turn it into a spread.
In france or belgium when you order a coffee at a café they usually give you for free either a speculoos biscuit or a piece of chocolate :)
If I'm right, Meli (the name of the honey waffles) just means honey
'Meli' is just the brand. 'Honing' means honey.
Oh sorry :) I just thought because I'm portuguese honey is mel so it would have made sense logistically
meli means honey in greek
Oh okay that makes sense so I was kinda right lol
Yeah it does i know bcs my name is simular
Hey Barry!
You're always welcome to stay with me in Berlin. Just get in touch!
I would love a box of British treats. I love trying new things. Ps, Ive just dicovered your videos, and your energy is crazy contagious!. Keep on keepin on!
I Did research about stroop waffles and speeculoos and it originates from the Netherlands so the person that sent you this made a mistake and actually fries were first made in the Netherlands
She's right. We have cookies called speculaas. And Stroopwafels have caramel in them. Not honey. :)
Chips (BE) or french fries (AE) were invented in Belgium lol. No clue where you did your research, but nowhere is stated that they were invented in the Netherlands.
valentina del bello Hard to say were speculoos originates from, since you find it in Belgium, NL, North of France and West of Germany. The difference is the recipe, personally I prefer the soft ones from Belgium. Btw, I guess the original recipe dates back to when Belgium and Netherlands were one, this might explain the blur on the real origins.
Wow, typically dutch people, I agree with the stroop waffle but lotus is a belgian company and they make speculoos and if u actually learned your history lesson about food, French Fries were actually invented by belgians.
I'm Belgian and at every treat (except the last one) I was like "oh yes this one is sooo good!" You've got some of the best food of our country! Come here to taste the others! :p
Even British, german, treats from all around the world!!! I would love the experience!!!!
i am a belgian, i learned something from this video, to warm my suzy waffels !!! thank you!!!
Loved this video and now have to go and find and eat Belgium food , great video Barry !!❤️
Greetings from Liège in Belgium :) The Sirop de Liège is soooo delicious! Here we also use it for a sauce which we eat with meatballs and fries!
omg... I love Speculoos... my grandfather is from Belgium and I've actually been there twice.. i had the cookies, but I dont ever remember seeing the spread... i'd love to try some of that. Belgian chocolate is like the best ever... I remember how good the fries were.. mmm and yes i do get the whole dip them in mayonnaise thing from my grandfather... yum.
omg... butter crisps! those were definitely my second favorite snack out there aside from the speculoos cookies . how i wish i were back there right now
Thanks for the 30s trick, as a Belgian I honestly didn't know that.
Lived in Belgium for a year - amazing food!
Here, in Belgium, we use "le sirop de Liège" to cook the "sauce lapin", it's a sauce you do with beer, meatballs and onions. You eat it with Belgain fries. It's really delicious, you have to try it!
Yes please, pLease do the British treat box and send it to your fans! That would be so cool. ..
I laughed so hard when you ate the "Luikse stroop" without anything (like blocks of old cheese)
I am so happy that I live in belgium because of al those sweet thinks
Barry, Barry, Barry... You would be even more awesome than you already are if you did a Lord of the Rings theme cooking thing! PLEASE DO IT!
That choc block on a stick is something you can get in the UK- in Holland and Barrett. And we can get biscotti spread
I'm not back in the mother country that often nowadays, but you're DEFINITELY not supposed to eat the sirup by the spoonful. Not unless you're in uni and being promised a twenty for finishing the jar in five minutes. It's basically jam concentrate; a little goes a long, long way.
Gi -li-an. They're sold here in Australia too. Quite pleasant.
Love Belgium
this video is amaaaaaaaaazing !! :D greets & love from Belgium =)
yasss! speculoos lotus spread! LOVE IT
@MyVirginKitchen I really love what you were able to do with this video. I love that you were so respectful towards Belgium and I really feel that you your video is not only informative but also fun to watch ! You nailed it :) I hit the like button and I hope you'll get many more. You're awesome and I subscribed to your channel :)
I'd looooove to receive some British treats from you!
Great idea!
A few years too late, but sirop de liege (aka "poepgelei" or bumsyrop) is great on a slice of bread with black pudding aswell.
Lol Barry, at the end, I think that though your body is telling you "yes", your tastebuds might just be shouting "no" at that assault xD
I've had something akin to those honey waffles, though they had caramel in the center. Really quite tasty.
Yes please I'd love the box of treats for my dad's birthday he loves sweet things :D
Barry we don't look like that in belguim xD love the video !!!
Hi Barry , I just wanted to say that you inspire me so much and always make me want to try something new ! Thankyou so much for making my day :)
P.S your so funny
You @ home and Treats = BEST!
👍 From Germany
What a coincidence! I came back from Belgium a few hours ago!
yes pasta is paste and it is also dutch. dutch and belgium languages are almost the same exept for a few words. klappen means talking in belgium but in dutch it is praten.....
Ahah, Barry classic opening to the video, but great rest of it too.
Because some people in the world have a heart and they could give that candy to a special kid and make them have a smile on their face
Love these videos Barry! Are you doing any more GIANT FOOD videos? :)
Cote d'Or not Cote s'Or ... it's 'goldcoast' in French ... the place where the company originally got their cacao from.
Omg, yes, it would be awesome to get some British treats, or treats from anywhere. I live in Arkansas, so a lot of things that you get that look good aren't available
Yummy stuff! Love you Barry.
Yes please Barry
omg, the way he pronounces neuzekes XD
it is soo nice that you liked all of our food
Do you now get why I love my country😂
I would love to receive some British treats! Love your videos!
Yes, I would love some british treats!
i am glad you like the food you can buy here in belgium
Hey Barry that spread is called Biscoff in the UK ans USA as I have seen it in Sainsburys and a youtuber called Kawaii sweet world uses this spread.
Half new Subscriber around here! ^^ loving your videos (they make my mouth watery :x) keep it on!
thaha the way he pronounces 'speculoos' haha...hilarious!! I'm belgian ;)
Speculoospasta is indeed a paste of spiced bisquit.
Cuberdons are too sugary for me too.
Jenever means geneva.
Guylian is pronounced Gillian. (Like in Gillian Anderson)
Honey waffles are indeed similiar to stroopwafels.
Luikse siroop or Sirop de Liège is not that good in my opinion. But I get why people like it.
Nice vid. ^^
jenever means gin not geneva...
I think they use both words =)
