I sure hope that chocolate mousse doesn't make you sick, because that's supposed to be refrigerated! It's also not quite supposed to look like that. :-/
Those sausages are made from beef and horse, you can peel the skin if you want, but isn't necessary. You can serve them with a pre-diner drink (what they are intended for). I like mine with an aged port wine. Best way is take them out of the package, let them rest for around 15 minutes.
I think that the chocolate mousse was supposed to be kept refrigerated. That's why it was so clumpy. Or at least whenever we went shopping to " carrefour" that's how the chocolate mousse was stored. 😯😮😳
You can get chocolate mousse like that in UK supermarkets too, and it's always in the fridge. You can even tell from the container that it's supposed to be refrigerated, no idea how he missed that.
It feels like you don't know that in Belgium we speak 3 different languages. French in the south (so that's why it translates "delicious" as 'délicieux" because it's french, dutch in the north and german in the very east)...
I am Belgian and I am so tired of the language problems, why can't people who speak different languages not just all speak English? We all learn English, and then we don't need to feel like one adapts to the other since we adapt to each other. :)
I'm Australian but got totally addicted to speculoos while holidaying in Europe. My children are also addicted to it.... it's like liquid gold in our house and we are quickly running out of the small amount that we brought home haha
uh....barry, I hopr you weren't sick after this because the chocolate mousse? yeah it's meant to be kept in the fridge. All the tme. That's probably why it had melted into a crater. Whoever sent you this is a health hazard.
I'm from Belgium and this is so nice to watch! Love how you try to pronounce the words! Speculaas is the name for the cookie, speculoos is more the brand name but it is used for the cookies too.
I'm from Belgium and I think it's absolutely hilarious how you pronounce some of the words and I think it's speculoos and it's not 'oe' it's 'oo' like hello you pronounce it like that o ☺️
The Sausage you ate at the end is known here in South Africa as "Droëwors"(Dry Sausage)! You are meant to eat it with the skin/"paper"! It's normal sausages that's been hung up to dry.....! Lol
HEY MYVIRGINKITCHEN FAMILY!!!! It's my 21st birthday today and I'm from Illinois, USA. There is absolutely no better way than to start today when there is a new upload here, and a vlog on the other channel. Can I get at least 21 likes? #IMAVIRGINCOOKANDIMPROUD
Barry I just looked at a 1year old video of you and that picture of fruit is 1year old pic I love it and I'm glad that you keep your kids pictures on the fridge
Belgian and well the french speaking ones might say that, the "dutch" speaking ones nah its actually very different for every province because of the enormous difference in dialects, hard to explain rlly. I would like to see you try our beers tho xD idk if you ever did. Ive tried about +-160 of ours, im a regular at tom's belgian beer bar (in ypres) xD he usually has +-300 different Belgian kinds would it be possible to send alcohol?
Ohhh! They used to sell those dinosaurs in Norway, and soo many liked em. But they stopped selling them like 10 years ago. :( Ill need to order some online.
They are. The difference are the amount of spices. Speculaas had expensive spices (at that time), so the Speculoos version is without the spices. Except for some cinnamon. So, speculoos cookies we're just cookies for people who couldn't afford the real speculaas.
Fun side story. The Speculaas-pasta (I'm team Speculaas) was brought on the market by Lotus after the "inventor" participated in an inventors tv-program In Belgium, called "de bedenkers" and stranded in the semi-finals. Lotus decided to bring out that version of the Speculaas-pasta about a year later and it has been very successful in Belgium and surroundings.
Fun fact about the speculoos/speculaas thingy: we Belgians used to say speculoos but our friends in the Netherlands changed it to speculaas bc the suffix 'loos' has quite a negative meaning (whenever you put 'loos' behind a word, it means that it doesn't contain it, e.g. 'harteloos' (heartless) means that someone doesn't have a heart (figuratively)) and some Belgians started using speculaas as well, so that's why we use both :D
The Kermess sausages are an acquired taste. They are "dry sausage" a bit like "saucissons" in france. They are meaty dried sausage that are a bit like jerky. They are salty and are generally eaten as a snack when you drink beer. LOTS of cafés and pubs in Belgiym will serve you a small bowl of cubbed cheese with stronger beers, and you can ask for these also. Its simething you take while enjoying the Apero with friends around a fresh beer on the terrase
There is actually a distinct differance between speculoos and speculaas, speculoos is small and hard, and usually sold in supermarkets, where speculaas is softer, often bigger and usually sold in bakeries (I'm Belgian).
Just some remarks: although la laitière mousse can be found here in Belgium, they are actually from the Nestlé company, Switserland, and not a Belgian brand, and rest assure, the mousse has the correct texture, but keep it just in the fridge. The battle between speculoos and speculaas is just the difference between the Belgian version and the Dutch version. The double bar of chocolate is mostly used for baking, not to eat like that (but you can). And "délicieux" is French. Lekker is the Dutch word
Speculaas!! Haha, I had so much fun watching this video. The dinosaur cookies are the best! And when you like Leonidas pralines, you definitely like Guylian chocolates. Shaped like things from the sea xD
Your description of the Zwan TV sausages :'D Gosh! We love these! Eat them with paste with just a little bit of crème fraiche and some spaghetti spices and you have the comfort food of my childhood!
Oh my goodness, I was just spreading Speculoos Cookie Butter on a crepe when you pulled the jar out. Too funny that I can get the same stuff in Nebraska, USA.
XD Im watching this and i live in Belgium i was eating chocolate from leonidas Leonidas i was like HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW PRALINES my favorites are the white ones whits strawberry 😍😍
With Those Boni Speculoos Tendres maybe you could try them as a "dunking" biscuit .. coffee or hot chocolate.. just my first thought to moisten them and would subdue the spice
Small note here, most belgian people speak 2 languages, french and dutch. If u wanted delicious in dutch than that would've been 'lekker' or 'heerlijk' . delicieux is french :p as you noted. greetings from belgium :) glad u liked most of the treats
you have have have to dry this recipe: puff pastry pin wheels ! 1 roll of puff pastry - spread it with cream chese tomVERY END rip up some peperoni and salami any thin sauasage meat or even ham - sprinke over with a GENEROUS helping of cheese the roll up from the left to right - cut into one inch slices or smaller for even more - follow cooking intruction on pastry package and enjoy best when hot or cold in a lunch box
Speculoos and speculaas are actually different things, speculoos is made with herbs whereas speculaas is made with only sugar, in the old days speculaas was a substitute for speculoos for families that couldn't afford the expensive herbs.
You can get the Frangipans from places like home bargains and farmfoods. various other places too. I love them to bits. quite dry sometimes but just B-E-A-Utiful!
ps, If you are able to pronounce words of a specific language do it. if you don't (like now... many people got a ear ache after this.) yeah so if you don't just don't say anything just eat and enjoy
1:52 Those are not sold separately, they come in packs of three, held together by cardboard, which has all the relevant information on it. Saucisse de kermesse --> fairground sausage. You can eat the skin, but there's no shame in taking it off. And, yes, some Belgian treats are an aquired taste. :D
That Zwan liver paste is actually a Dutch brand. And it's made by force feeding the animals large and unhealty/ amounts of food up to the point that their liver gets inflamed and grows to unnatural proportions. Its animal cruelty in a tiny can. The reason the Belgian chocolate tasted so rich is because we have a law that states that chocolate has to have at least 35% pure cacao in it to be labeled as chocolate.
Hah, wonderful! I'm Belgian but moved to the UK and it was a delight watching some of my fave stuff. Leonidas is a specialty chocolate shop, expensive too. The whites are my absolute favourite, I buy them in bulk whenever I can. For Speculaas paste you can get in the UK actually, in TESCO you'll find it under the name "Biscoff" (biscuits too) so if you ever fancy some more it's available here :D
Actually Frangipane is a Pastry. There is no drink called Frangipane, BUT there is an almond flavoured Liquor called Amoretto. Never drunk it myself, so couldn't tell you what it is like. I have a feeling it would be thick and sickly.
Před 4 lety
boouhhh I cried to laugh so much, it hurts my belly ^^ thx to you from Belgium (there are 'specialities' there that there are just industrial ones ;) ):)
The mousse and leonidas chocolates need to stay in the fridge though... I would not have eaten those if it took a few days to get to your house lol. My grandfather (rip) used to eat the cote d'or chocolate all his life, it reminds me of him and it's so goooodddd. A few years ago Lotus tried to change the shape of the dinosaur biscuits and there was a lot of protest lol. They are legendary.
Delicious in Belgian haha! Barry, Belgium consists of Vlaanderen en Wallonië. In Vlaanderen people speak dutch and in Wallonië people speak French. There's no such thing als Belgian, they just give you the French translation. :)
you should know we have special laws for chocolat. think it says 40% has to be at least cacao, so no artificial flavor added like in most countries. Even heard in America that per 100 Gr it may contain 5 insect legs. And speculoos isn´t the same as speculaas at all. Spices and way of making is different wich gives it a different taste...

A few years ago Lotus tried to change the shape of the dinosaur biscuits and there was a lot of protest lol. They are legendary.
I'm from Belgium and your reaction to the TV sausages was priceless! 😂 I hope you keep purchasing Belgian chocolate now! 😊
his reaction to liverpate was hilarious. that is a quite delicious thing
