For me, this is Petra's "A" line up. This is the band I fell in love with in the mid eighties. Seeing them perform together is like coming home again.

For me, the 90s Petra lineup was my band, as that's the decade I grew up in. It's really cool how they have evolved over the decades, and appeal to a wide range of ages. Definitely one of the best Christian rocks bands EVER!
Interestingly, you say that this was the A lineup for you when you fell in love with them in the mid 80's, but by 1986, John schlitt was the lead singer, not Greg, due to him having an affair with his secretary. John schlitt actually joined the band in late 1985.
God used Petra to get me through the tough teen age years.

I understand why you shed tears. It's hard to believe the world is where it is today. Those days were like Jesus coming to earth; we were feasting and not fasting. Now, He's lifted those times and we fast and pray. We're persecuted and being tested. But, these days "must" be, He told us. Soon, we will rejoice even more than those days. Those days will seem like a funeral dirge next to where we will be soon. Let those tears flow, they are cleansing tears that will be turned to overwhelming JOY, forever and ever.

In 1987-92 I was in college and I found Petra! I also found the Lord in 1988 and what a glorious relationship I have. Yes, I strayed, many times but He always is there. Petra is also always there too. Thank God. I still at almost 50 rock to this band and I will always rock to them. Praise God for them.
I saw these same guys in 1983 with an audience of maybe 30 people. Talked to them after the concert and got all their autographs. They were all in camouflage for "Never Say Die". It was AWESOME! I was 13.

I had that CD, it was a double CD with "Washes Whiter Than" the prior album.
I still do, just gotta dig it out of my 500 other CCM Great Albums.
It was a stellar album a bit chill but top notch production & creativity - these guys made 33 albums and saw much fruit of God's Hand upon them.
They inspired me to keep the Faith & keep my marriage strong in Christ.
All our 5 children know their songs too.
Future Generations will sing these Heaven sent songs when godless junk music is long forgotten.

the first time I ever heard of Petra was at their "Not of this World" tour in Peoria, Illinois. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. 40 years later, they still sound the same. God bless them.

I was drawn to Petra songs in the early years of my Christian life in early 90's and still is today. Some of their songs really helped me, brought encouragement during tough times of my personal walk with the Lord
I´m from Brazil,in South America. I knew petra in 1990, very things change in my life in this time. But one thing don´t change. When i fell sad, i listen petra and some good happness in my soul, in my mind.
i did see Petra live one time, in Sao Paulo, Brazil (my state and country that i love) and was fantastic.

One of the most loved groups for me as a teen. I am now 53 and I am sitting here listening and praising God for keeping me for all these years in HIS arms. I had a bad home as a teen and your music kept me pointed to God, even though if my dad had found your cassette tape he would have thrown it away and been angry with me for having, the 'devil's' music in our house.
Outstanding to hear Greg Volz sing with the main group. I remember mainstream radio wouldn't play them in high school.
Petra was my First Concert. It was the "More Power to ya" Tour. This Band along with the People that were there, helped me with my Christianity. I owe a load to Petra for their Beautiful Words and voices. Praise God in how he brings people to his Call.

The Not of This World Tour was my first concert. This music has been with me all of my life. Through the ups and downs and long periods as a prodigal, the words stayed with me. God bless your faith and travels until we meet in Heaven.

Greg X Volz, and the whole Petra band are so musically underrated. As far as I'm concerned, they started the "Christian Rock" genre. They opened the doors for people like Michael W. Smith and Stryper.

There were a lot of Christian bands coming up at the time, but their excellence in music and theology set them apart They definitely opened doors and set a standard for others.
I know Greg X Volz kept his chops up for all those years, but wow! For a 62 year old man to sound that good is amazing. He sounds exactly the same as he did in 1984. Not many 80's rockers can say that. Obviously Hartman & Co. are also flawless.
My first experience with PETRA was when they did a concert at Southwest Baptist College (now university) back in 1977. They only get better with time.

Love this! I have to tell that I got to play guitar with Greg X. Volz in the early eighties when he visited our church to lead us in an evening of worship. None of us other musicians were made to feel inferior by him. We all had a great time!

Watching old rockers usually makes me laugh. it's just not job you can do all your life. I take it back. ALL the way back! This concert is amazing. The message delivered as vibrantly as ever. Lead singer's voice is a.maz.ing. It's a blessing when your voice doesn't age, especially for a rocker. But the music! Man! Used to be good, is good, will always be good. Holy Rock & Rollers!
Why is Petra not played on public Christian radio stations? Almost all Petra songs are Bible based. In comparison some new Christian music can be on the fence, especially for new Christians. Petra will always rock!!
@MrAwesome2014, to answer your question, Petra was simply "too rock", with the exception of perhaps the "Coloring Song" to be on Christian radio. Especially during the time of their heyday, Christian radio was almost all adult contemporary junk. To this day, the radio station in my town is STILL adult contemporary with the exception of 3 hours on Saturday night. Lots of band went without any success for many years, because of that mindset on Christian radio.
I was in Christian radio back in the late 80's and Petra was aired at that time, along with Amy Grant, MWS, DC Talk, etc.
Christian radio is extremely "now" oriented, and the stations that will play contemporary music will typically only air what is considered current.
I also completely agree about the quality of the message. I stopped listening about 2 months ago, as many of the songs aired today have nothing to do with God, and in fact have an anti-God message (saying things like I should just be who I am, instead of having a Biblical message that I should be more like Christ).
Anyway, hope that helps. If Petra put out something new that was popular today, it would most certainly be aired.
Tim Ogle tried to get our local 95.1 shine fm to do an archive day a week in memory of roots of good christian music, they told me they have a music director ,decides what will be played,SO SAD ,NO WONDER SINGERS NEED SECOND JOBS,

My favorite band of all time. Such a joy to see Greg singing with them again. Saw them live twice back during the 80's in Salem, VA. These guys always had such Bible based lyrics, more than anyone else. Appreciate their heart for God.

They played at my church a few years back, we tested the sound from the back board with a DB tester. Heh, it was the loudest our church has ever had and we've had some LOUD musicians there. ;-) Loved every minute of it.

I needed to hear these songs and the things Greg said. Its been a long walk in the right direction! Now i am nearly 50 and preach the Word weekly as a pastor for the past 25 years. Only God can do a work in a young man who was so conflicted and angry. Tears stream down my face as I listen to "More power to ya." as this was one of the first songs I learned from Petra. God is good. He is more faithful than any person will ever be! Thank you Lord Jesus!

The stations are so uptite and religious they never played Petra on their radio stations and never will. So sad!

We are un-cool to them, but very Hot, in point for the Lord...today's Rock music has yet to live up to PETRA and STIPER in the technical traditional Rock sound, and others like, Ross Staff, Mylon LeFevre, David and the Giants, Phil Keaggy, Bryan Duncan, Dallas Holmes, michael-w-smith in orders. especially on live performances, and some might even need more depth in their Doctrine. these particular guys,(PETRA )besides being rock musicians to the Excellence of the Craft, they're also deep founded in the roots of the doctrine of Christ Jesus.

I think it was 1976. Traverse City Michigan, cherry festival, Petra on a flat bed truck. I stayed there on the grass all afternoon and just plain dug what they were doing.

This group is too great to ever let it die. I mean even when some of the guys get too old to carry on someone young needs to take their place. I think this group is so important it’s like the James Bond series. And God has anointed these men to touch my generation and I really believe the next generations as well. I liked these guys in the early 80s. Nice to see they did a reunion tour a few years back. They sound really good. And Greg Volz sings every bit as good as he did in the 80s. I still have the original VHS of this lineup. And I know I have several Cassette tapes still.
