July 1978 in Panama City Beach amusement park. AWESOME SHOW ! ! ! First concert I EVER saw live and was a huge inspiration for me to start my own live sound reinforcement company which was very successful from the mid 80's till 2010 when speaker stackin' and flyin' threw my back out. LONG LIVE HEAD EAST ! ! And yes, I feel there is a DAMN GOOD REASON ! ! ! Thanx Guys
I am as old as they are. God bless them. Used to see them in the bars in Champagne and Carbondale. Nice to see them still playing and having fun. Rock on guys!
I went to high school in Rock Falls, IL right across the river from Sterling, IL. Head East, REO Speedwagon and Cheap Trick all started in that general area.
Remember seeing REO in a high school - seemed like it was in a large hallway as the ceilings were low. This was before the singer change. And Head East was all over. First time seeing Cheap Trick was this bar in Schaumburg, Illinois. Thought who the hell are these guys. They were amazing. I was about 15' away from the band and they were just on fire. Went back years later and the bar was now a Department of Motor Vehicles or some such nonsense. The good days. They were just an amazing time.
Always liked this band been a fan since I was a teenager....... had the album this song was on plus their live album .... great version here... thanks Jody....
Jody Schmidt. Thanks for posting. My best friend and I saw them live in Sioux City, Iowa in 1976. We were standing right in front of the stage. Guess who their backup or opening band was? A band we had never heard of at that time.....RUSH!!!! Pretty awesome times. Love it....thanks again!!
@@williameltringham7559 Well said! One needs to seize the moment or opportunity. I think we all have regrets in not taking the time to have seen some of the legends. One didn't even need advance tickets as you would just purchase them at the gate. No internet. Simpler times back then. And way cheaper prices!
Saw rush open for Uriah help awsome combo this new band from England open for grand funk 71 forum l a called black sabbath love head east always good concert like white witch too
Buddy of mine owned a bar and hired them ..in 1999.. They pulled up in there tour buses we partied with them 2 hours before the show ... I'll never forget that night.
Saw them in the 70's , the line up was slade , headeast and black oak arkansas .twenty years later i played drums for david allan coe and partyed hard with jim dandy of black oak .im glad to see jim and guys are doing good they got a new album and so does d.a.c. rock on🎼🎵
So easy for some of you to criticize, but yet they are on stage rockin' and you are sitting on your sofa eating cheetos and staring at a computer screen! At least they are having fun and keeping the music alive!
You are right. @@rneu1978, but many bands ride the name recognition. Age alone, guys touring from the 70's are at least pushing 70 years old now and old guy stamina and a fresh stage presence is difficult to pull off. I (personally) don't mind tribute bands. Generally, the musicians are good and more energetic than the real bands.
KJ I love older music so if members of an older band i like is pushing 70 or in some cases 80 I don’t care because they are doing what you say having fun and keeping the music alive.
Thanks for sharing Jody. Even some thirty five years later this song still kicks "A"... I know it's not all of the original Head East band members but they still put on a great show !!
Roger once said: "I'm not going to stop playing until i can't hold that keyboard above my head anymore " got the chance to meet him and the band after a show in a small club in Wisconsin. Went backstage and Roger was eating a sandwich. He was so cool.
Saw them in Clayton ny with blue oyster cult on a summer tour in the late 70s what a show the pot was a lot different back then also a good joint a 6 pack of high life and headeast on the 8 track what a good time
thx, Jody. a great song. a bit before my time, though. i love this grass roots rock. and for that matter, i love the band grass roots as well - and the guess who - and Three dog night - and the doobie brothers - and.....
Now this is how rock should sound. Great vocals is one guitarist with talent, keyboardist with ability, then best for last the rthymic drummer his timing is awesome I drum he is like a watch in perfect timing what a group and song
I was home from college in des moines iowa 4h of July in about 1985. We walked up to this bar north of i80 because they always had live music. They told us it was a $5 cover. Wtf we said? Who's the band? Head East! What a nite!
Ya I can imagine, I get chills just reading your comment. And I joined the army in 85 should of waited one more year I live 12 miles from Des Moines. When I later managed local bands no longer there a recording studio south of Des Moines is where headeast cut their albums.
I I have followed head east since their inception, I saw them for the first time at a place called The night gallery in Waukegan Illinois in 1975. Never Been Any Reason was playing across the country as a Sophomore in high school! My dates may be a little off but who gives a shit! REO and Head East kicked college row in Mid and Southern Illinois.
Wow these were lucky people I wish I had been there! Saw This band at Superjam 77 at Bush Stadium in St. Louis with Ted Nugent REO Speedwgon Judas Priest etc...
Coming to a retirement home to you in the next 5-10 years. Head East opening for the KISS CLONES and the Journey Heads from Futurama. All the 70 & 80's rockers will be on edibles and Viagra. Long live Rock! It's a sad truth !! My children of Rock. Hopefully by then Pat Benatar will rightfully have been inducted into the Rock N Roll HOF!! With Honors and an apology for taking so Damn Long!!
The guitarist is the only one that is an original. The bass wasnt even born yet and i never saw the others before. This is not HEAD EAST. I GOT TO PLAY WITH THEM IN DENVER 1977.
Your a bass player who is playing bass? Might want to understand keeping music alive and he grew up listening to it till he went to Cali. I think you will be surprised the bands and stages he has played. He didn't need this gig. He choose to keep music alive.
one of the most underrated 70s rock songs of all time,,these guys ROCK!!
