- 641bhp BMW M2 review. With a massive 40% hike in power, this Litchfield Motors modified M2 is one of the wildest cars I've ever driven. But could it still be used on a daily basis?

Silver/light wheels colours are so much more preferable to black wheels! Had my G81 black wheels painted gun metal and it improved the look dramatically
Especially true on wheels you want to run with all season tires all year round. Took me a while to find front polished black wheels with a "winter ready" rating from the manufacturer that I would like. All black wheels only work if the rest of the car is also blacked out completely imho.
Agreed. Black wheels on all the G8X cars are not the best choice.
Black wheels work great with certain colors.
The same is true for our demographics🤨
Black wheels are the worst trend ever happened to the car industry.
They're not "sporty", they're not "racing", they do not "work on certain cars".
They're just preferred by owners so they don't have to clean them anymore.
What's the point of an expensive wheel design when it disappears in a massive black hole on the side.
It just makes every car sad and unoriginal, just as most so called motorists nowadays.
I don't think I've seen Harry laugh as much during a review, ever. I think that says something about this car.
Because Harry is a different kind of reviewers compared to Chris Harris.
Save Silver Wheels!
Amen to that!!
Cant really stand looking at black wheels anymore.
They don't do anything at all to show off the design.
Just had mine redone to silver on my W212 Wagon.
Looks better and will last longer but I do miss the Matchbox Car look.
No just no . So dated
Most smiles I’ve seen on your face driving a BMW for quite some time 😎
Agree - since he drove the F87 M2 when he had an even bigger smile :)
It's wonderful. To see him so happy
Impressive feat of engineering.... Simply marvelous
I'll have to be financially stable in every sense before purchasing my first supercar. The best thing to do with your money is to invest rightly because money left saving will end up with no returns.
No doubt being financially free cannot be overemphasized, making smart plans and setting up diversified investment portfolios is quite essential.
The best advice that i learned from Manny Koshbin is don't buy a Super or Hyper car until you have 10 times the price of it in your Bank account, when you purchase a Super car you add a car to your garage but u add also maintenance and unexpected damages that can happen in future
If you got 10x the price sitting in your bank account... you already making bad financial decision.
You need to get a financial planner to aid diversify your portfolio to commodities index funds, digital assets etc, to provide illumination and guidance in the financial markets.
It looks okay in black.
I like it black as well
True
Until one day after you have cleaned it 😂
The purple looks best imho
yup😊
Tens seconds into video and this looks like proper old school no messing motoring
Proper old school magic back again!
@@moinhaider1496 Yeh. Finally a tasty piece of kit to want, all this later stuff no horn appeal
@zzhughesd reminds me of the 1M 🙂
Old school as in British Leyland? because thats about accurate to describe the built quality and robustness on these. My Neighbours has had a new engine under warranty the first one ingested its own oil filer and had coolant smell from the exhausts from new. New front discs and pads as they got warped immediately, the second set got warped within a month they are wanting him to foot the bill for them now. The gearbox became noisy after the engine replacment and has got worse they have no idea what the noise is. Some of the interior got slapped off when his dog was in it wagging its tail and the thing makes loud crackilng and popping noises in his garage after hes used it and BMW said "thats normal but if you smell anything let us know"
I mean my British Leyland comparison is 100% justified i feel.
@@bigduphusaj162 yup. Good old BL engineering. Born 77 sadly I didn’t get to see the crap ness. I know Mini Metro wings rusted through before 12 months old !!! Lovely
I read an interview with Frank Stephenson once, where he said no car should be painted black because it hides all the careful work of the designer. I can't believe how much better this looks in black!
Because it hides the careLESS work of the designer.
Exactly 😂@@EvoraGT430
That just shows, Frank Stephenson knows exactly what he is talking about.
I think that lovely darkish purple colour BMW do, would be another good
colour for this M2.
Although. I'm not sure if its even offered on the M2?
Yes it’s the opposite, black hides all the awful front and back ugly clumsy body kit, !!!
What has happened to BMW styling department, they seem intent on making very ugly cars, which just jar with any view, grills are massive on some this has ugly what looks like the 80’s after market body kits, (cheap ones!!!),the first generation M2 competition with its wide track and beautiful rear arches was stunning, I never heard a bad review of its looks, or performance, a true classic, this certainly has a lot going for it, but I couldn’t live with the looks., great review clearly shows Harry enjoying it.
The black disguises it so well I had initially thought they had put another body kit on there. What a difference.
The fact that you have to disguise it in black really speaks volumes about the look of a car...
Harry is spot on as usual. Man, do I hate that stupid mile long instrument cluster screen.
I've found it really good to use, albeit, in an IX rather than the M2. It's better than what VW / Audi are shoving out currently.
@@SecksJayyou bought an ix, that's inexcusable
Exactly.
@@Matthew-ll9ke It's a very nice place to be, plus you don't have to look at the front of it from inside.
@@SecksJay a range rover is a splendid place to be, yet doesn't look utterly hideous from inside and out
Really starting to like this car. Also really nice to hear people complimenting Iain’s work (he’s an old school friend), he’s an absolute wizard in getting the best out of performance vehicles with his team.
That’s why I bought one. It’s far from stock have eibach springs, 550hp, standard exhaust but valves open 100%. Manual and track pack. I have the bi color wheels and a bit of carbon. It’s in red. Every track day I get everyone asking about it and I think it looks angry and terrific. It always makes you smile driving it and in 5 years people will say wow should have gotten one while I could… got to be manual it’s just fun even on track! Don’t think of it in stock form pimp it a bit and you will have a perfect drivers car for a whole lot less money.
Great review thanks Harry. Keep 'em coming please!
Just liking to see you have fun on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Thanks, Harry.
Interesting review - but great if you would revisit the 1M soon too Harry.
Gorgeous car. Black with silver wheels is a great look. Horrible digital dashboard would be a deal breaker for me though. Bring back analogue !
I have an lcd screen in my 2020 C63. It looks great and works perfectly with a range of information displayed just as you’d like it. The current BMW setup is nowhere near as good though.
I have a BMW with that dashboard, it's great!
@@AlfaGTA156 Huh? As someone who owns a Z4M and an i4, the "ipad" that you refer to is far superior for a daily car.
@@AlfaGTA156 Oh yeah coming from the guy who owns a car from the company that can't figure out a limited slip differential.
Dystopian looking display. Awful and cheap.
Wonderful review, I really appreciate the effort put into the different camera shots etc Thank you! Can't wait to own one.
Wow...I haven't seen that much enthousiasm in a while. Love it! 🙏🏼
Spot on with all your comments Harry! love this madness!
Are you having fun, Harry? That review gave me goose bumps. I think you got them too. Cheers 🇨🇦
Another fantastic video.
One of the worlds most respected motoring and CZcams journalists working with one of the oldest and reputable tuning companies that is Litchfield and we get a video like this.
This vid shows how you should treat long established reputable tuning companies and this vid is the result.
Thanks harry! Wouldn't be Sunday without your video :)
Harry your infusiasm is amazing, it makes these videos so much fun to watch, thank you so much what you do.
Great video, Harry. It's a black beast and looks pretty cool.
Props for the manual gearbox too.
Another thorough review, the smile says it all !
Thanks for this Harry! Looking forward to your Vantage video!! Soon?
With those wheel if you squint there’s an essence of a Sapphire Black E46 M3 CSL
Gotta squint really really hard
@ronin84 I've squinted so hard and not even my mind's eye can see it.
Yeah if you squint so hard that you close your eyes and imagine a BSM E46 M3
Squint & turn around maybe
I have to squint looking at most BMWs or my eyes catch fire.
It's nice you mentioned Shamal: I adore it's predator stance and how aggressive it is looking on you
Another good video. Thanks Harry 👍
Love the optional black tape over mph! Another great video and good looking car with the upgrades
Love it! Hope there’s an Alpina review in the pipeline too!
Love the manual, proper car 💪🏼
there are cars for drivers and cars for posers; each and one of us knows who's who.
The wheel choice is spot on
I really like the interior. I can only imagine how much fun it would be to drive. Great video Harry. Might I add you give us all the pros and cons on these beautiful cars and you do it so well. Drive safe buddy.
dont let your dog neae it or its tail will slap the interior apart. Dont ask
Harry enjoying a bit of Hooligan Life!
That much power in a 2-Series has to be Glorious.
Harry you seems to have more fun with this car then with other super cars that costs severeal times more. Thank you to share your experiences
I don't think it needs more power, it needs less weight and much better dampers - Just my opinion, M2 F87 Competition is the sweet spot still, better design, you can update the iDrive to ID6 if necessary and add carplay etc, just a more punchy car and better looking - S55 is well understood for tuning now and the bonus is that it not only looks much better but you're not voiding the BMW warranty on a car that's still very much under warranty
F87 M2, with KW Clubsport coilovers (or Intrax 1K2), with different pads and some Apex wheels is just top tier for me.
Agreed on the weight, but they both sound terrible.
Literally the only thing I’d take from the F87 is the exterior looks. Interior, engine, chassis, etc I would take the G87.
The first thing any modern BMW needs is built correctly.
@mountjoy23 yeah , doesn't sound the best. Can be fixed with Equal length downpipes. Totally transforms the sound. If you haven't heard, check it out on CZcams 😍
@joetacchino4470 fair enough. I respect your opinion. I'm a "modder" so for me I think I can make a significantly better car for significantly less money with the F87.
Also, doing all the track days I do / want to do (time limited) - tracking a £40k F87 (with mods) is much less financial risk than a £70k G87 stock. Plus warranty etc.
Absolutely love everything about it. Looks so good in black. Just need to get rid of the virtual dash for some proper dials and buttons and we're there.
I can’t get on with the design of any of the new BMWs , the only positives are fat wheel arches and mirrors in the right place, and hats off to BMW for still making 2doors! But for me the last 2 series was a far better looking thing, Oh, and the wheels are lovely, agree with you on black wheels 100%
Thank you BMW for also still offering manual gearboxes and rear wheel drive. This car is insane in a good way. So all Litchfield did for the engine was advanced chip and exhaust? I wonder how the reliability will be after boosting the engine 180 bhp?
Agreed, I wish they would go back to nice round headlights of old. I do quite like bits of this model, but the old 3 series E43 is still a much better looking car, I think. The IX has to be one of the ugliest vehicles known to man; that thing has been styled by a 2 year old and an old cornflakes box.
A lot of people dont like the look of this M2 but I like it. It grows on you. And this particular suped up M2 is a beast!
best in black by a mile
Im not sure see my neighbours is as chocolate as it gets its abysmally unrobust
Harry, been away for a year, back to the channel. Great review, you're looking healthy and producing sharp material. Thank you. The M2 looks a bit awkward but with the stick transmission, and in black as you noted, its interesting for a run around vehicle. Cheers.
Looks ace, mega power, loads of fun
You looked genuinely enthralled Uncle Harry! You had a smile throughout the review. Great work @Litchfield
Oooh, a manual! That makes it more interesting! I don't like black wheels either. I aslo think much less tinted class would look a lot better too. Great review Harry, thanks. :)
Amazing 😍 and G87 looks great imo
The best we need more cars like this
I love the engineering side of it, but design-wise....bring back the F87.
It looks like an F87 that's been crashed heavily, then rebuilt from memory with playdough.
BMW has completely lost the plot. Their cars can only be described as hideous.
Vous êtes lourd avec votre passé
Engineering side? all German performance cars are an R35 copy & Paste now even the rear hookers. No joke mate a DSG gearbox is 1970s tractor tech tractors now have 50+ gear 6 clutch powershift boxes😂 What engineering are you meaning because all i see is a copy & paste parts bin car with the reliability and build quality of a British Leyland car from the 80s. How do i know that? well my neigbours is on its second engine already, the gearbox is about needing warrantied and hes having to pay for the front brakes now because the first set got warped immediately and done under warranty and within a month the replacements were warped. His dogs tail wiped out half the interior one time and it makes noises like a frying pan in his garage after hes used it and BMW dealer that sold him it their advice was "if it starts to smell then dont drive it let us know"
Thats some real good engineering mate that
@@AB-80XI dont even think this one looks that bad it looks a bit boxy and odd like a new Defender in the flesh but its not completely hideous. What is hideous is the build quality and its robustness. These things might aswell be made by a team up job between Fisher Price and 1980s British Leyland. As a spray painter turned coach/ boat builder the orange peel needs seen to be believed.
Love it!
As a previous F87 owner I wasn’t a fan of the G87; until now.
It’s definitely faster on track out the box however I’d still take an F
I remember seeing this very car at Litchfield not long after they'd taken delivery of it. I actually quite like it in black too.
Great video indeed. This is BMW at it's best with some help from Mr Litchfield. Supercar power at reasonable price. Harry's face says it all how much he likes it.
Thanks Harry for giving this class of car another look, I ordered a 23 G42 x-drive and it is a great daily, plenty quick, efficient and usuable here in New England. Your right about the looks of the M2, this was a little too dear for me, but again the platform is great for tuning and thanks for another spendid video, smiles all around
Brilliant vlog what a cool car for the cash this is the shiznit😉mind blowing performance at half the cost of a trumped up super car. Harry I’ve not seen you grin like that in a while. 😂🎉🎉🎉Boom m2
Great video the car has a lot of power.👌👌👌💪💪💪
Cool car, and I really like the Luminor you’re wearing too! 👍
Looks great in black. I think it looks great from the side but rather clumsy from both back and front which is disguised in black. Great that BMW still give the option of a manual. Fantastic car.
‘I think I have to revisit this.’ Fabulous.
I prefer the previous model, looked spot on.
Harry, love that CBX against the wall.
I drive a 116i with the ZF 8speed. Seeing this makes me think I now have a bucket list car to pine for that seems logical. logical? Thanks Harry. Your giggles say it all.
That is a wild but controllable car. Full marks to BMW. Harry looked very pleased.
At least it’s not an EV this week!!!!😊 I’d take the current BMW styling over no engine noise any Sunday, Harry.
The Devil will buy a snow shovel before i buy an EV.......
F EV's
Best judgement of the design of this car so far!
Love the styling, so square!
Looks very nice
Those HRE wheels are a must in my eyes. I've always liked the G87 but this one in black with those wheels and the Litchfield mods is next level.
Very cool the manual gearbox makes it 👍
Looks great in black with those silver alloy’s
Looks super alive and exciting
Looks Killa & Power ❤
Looks awesome in black
You can feel the power watching this car driving
A happier Harry than when he was talking about the UK food strategy! 😂
I have a brand new BMW 330e tourer hybrid and its my first BMW and I must say it's an absolutely amazing bit of kit. I'm very pleased with it and surprised on how well it goes and how economical it is for what it is. Iv never been a fan of BMW but this car has changed my mind about them somewhat...
She looks fantastic! WOW
My God, it looks like it wants to kill you with every full throttle application. I will have to take Harry's word for it that it's "more controllable than it has any right to". That is some serious power and torque upgrade without any mechanical mods. I hope all the engine internals are up to the task.
I reckon the clutch and other parts of the transmission will be in for a hard time. Maybe the clutch is uprated, at least with stronger springs?
see my other comments on here. They are as chocolate as it gets.
Your Infectious enthusiasm had me chuckling Harry😂
Nice video - to get more feel/linear control steering on comfort, brakes on sport for the stock model. Guessing the same might work better on the modified
Definitely - the only - colour to have the M2 in. To hide the awkward lines. Really like the silver wheels too 👍🏼
Odd how a black smudge appeared over the digital speed readout 😂
I think he does it in most videos 😂
BMW electronic gremlins I'm sure! 😀
Can’t have plod 👀 at the speedo can we 🤣🤣🤣
That is a beast of a car. I love the sound of it when accelerating.
I drove the test route last week and lo and behold there was a black BMW parked in a gateway. Aerial on top. I passed within the limit, thankfully.
Looks friggn great
I follow what harry recommended... after watching this episode i put a down payment for a black manual m2 n already made an appointment with Litchfield 😅😊...tq harry
Harry is having some fun today. Turbo BMWs love frying tyres
Good looking rig.
Another great video. Would love to see your review of the M550. Last of the V8s I suppose with the new M5 being a hybrid.
When last did Harry look this excited about a car?!
Really like it in black and with those mods
Another great vid from Harry, love the genuine enthusiasm. The question I’m left with though is why didn’t BMW choose to do this?
The silhouette of the car is beautiful, black perfectly hides its imperfections
An awesome car. On my wish list to buy.
M2 is… is something more than M3 👏👏👏👍. With this car appears that feeling . YOU MASTER THE DRIVING .
Excellent review Harry, you closet boy racer 😉This car's well conditioned all right - on first glance I thought it had a bodykit. I'm with you on the wheels: go for stock and paint them silver. That is some tune - comp and CS variants of this M2 down the line won't be near that sort of power.
Wow, it shimmies on the upshift to 2nd and 3rd like a Cerbera.
At 385bhp/tonne, it’s even a bit wilder - nice one.
It’s nice to see an older gentleman drive a modded 600 hp car. My heavily modded 2018 Honda Civic Type R which puts out 685 whp on a Motec M142 and powered by a Garrett g30-770 in a fully forged internals and ductile iron sleeved copper o-ringed block. Being that it’s fwd the Motec traction control works very good in keeping traction to the road. I plan on buying a 2024 rwd M2 or wait for the 2026 M2 Xdrive.
I think it looks better on the outside than many new BMW´s. It´s the interior and that laptop screen behind the wheel I can´t stand.
True about the exterior but that's not much of a comparison 😀
Great video. Harry I was wondering, would ever do a video on your watch collection, maybe on a side channel? Cheers.
Looks like a very fun car.
Great car!
Just 1 thing:
The large info screen looks ridiculous!
It looks like a stretched tablet simply screwed onto the dash!
They should integrate it more, or segment it.
Very good video as always!
Cheers
That looks so meaty. It's the first time I've looked at the G87 and gone 'phwoar'!
That….is a lovely little niche car. Looks fab! *runs off to classifieds!
