    A) You shouldn't rely on some umbrella looking thing to finish lining up your gooseball. You should hit dead nut on your own. B) Gen-Y does have a Automatic coupler cable pull unlock just click the option box.

    I'm gonna disagree with most on here and will likely be purchasing a Gen-Y 5th wheel to Gooseneck Torsion hitch. For me, the reasons are exactly opposite. I don't mind having to line up over the ball - I do that all the time already with other haulers I have. The big seller for me is the torsion... as it will make the trip much more enjoyable and reduce wear on my truck over time. It seems that Gen-Y now has a auto-locking pin/latch and no need to climb into bed for manual locking now. With your Andersen... you still have to climb into truck to manually remove the frame if you need to use the truck bed when not pulling your camper.

      I know this comment is two years old...but I've just purchased a new 5th-wheel and upgraded the pin to the Gen-Y...for all of the same reasons you've mentioned. I was VERY close to pulling the trigger with an Andersen hitch. Some additional research/conversations with people that have used both the Andersen and the Gen-Y and none of them regret moving to the Gen-Y

    I started with a Andersen Hitch, it destroyed the pin box on my 5th wheel, Lippert wouldn't cover damage nor would Andersen. Used a B&W for a little over year, but due to surgery couldn't lift it anymore. Been using a Reese Goosebox almost 3 years now, absolutely love it . Wish I had started with it first.

    I am running the Anderson and love it. Easy to pull it out and get my bed back whenever I want. I also currently own 2 5th wheel trailers. It is pretty easy to move the ball coupler back and forth when I switch trailers. I could also just buy a second one if I get tired of moving it.

    Great video and review. For us, the Anderson was also in the running but we went with the Pullrite Superlite 2600 which has worked great for us. Almost a reverse Anderson and also has the cone and doesn't require perfect hover. I was starting to like this Gen Y hitch until the two flaws. They've gotta fix that. I'm not climbing in the bed to connect.

    Thanks for the review. A couple of things:
    1) Your title states this is for a short-bed truck yet it is being used on a long-bed truck so there is no way to see if this would actually work on a short-bed truck. I went to their web-site and don't see any reference to short-bed trucks.
    2) You need safety chains! When using a gooseneck style connection, you should attach safety chains to the pin-box and to the bed.

    Reese Gooseneck for the Win! LOL This hitch has been amazing for us and you don't lose the bed of your truck, just like the Gen Y X but without all of the negatives. Plus it doesn't void your trailer frame warranty if your trailer is new. :)

      The Gen Y doesn't void your warranty either. I called Lippert directly because I was thinking of getting the gen y. Those 2 negatives are pretty small. I tow with a gooseneck on the farm anyway, so I am used to it. The plus over the reese goosebox is that it cost $500 less. Also, no airbag to fool with.

    We have a b&w companion in our ram 3500, it takes up a lot of space and is too heavy to take in and out, but it is really easy to hook and unhook, plus that gen y system makes it so you can store anything behind our ball because the gooseneck needs room to move around in the back. That gen y looks like such a pain to put the pin in, I’m way too old for that, thanks for showing the good and the bad. Larry

    Heads up. Your Andersen locking pin system is the weak link of the Andersen!!!! When your unhooked look at your locking pin under the red cone. I grew up on a cattle ranch, hooking up a gooseneck is no big deal at all it’s what we use to tow almost all agricultural trailers. Gen y has now offered a auto lock so you don’t have to crawl up in the bed. Another advantage of gooseneck over a fifth wheel is the grease. No grease plate for your kids to sit on or get all over everything nor is there a pin sticking down to get grease in the wife’s hair. No need to chalk the trailer because you don’t need to push into the hitch to Load. Nothing to store when you unload and need the bed space. I never liked the idea of storing a $1500 fifth wheel hitch behind the trailer at a national park ground when I need to make a trip to town where I need the bed space.

    Does anyone know if this Gen Y hitch voids the trailer MFR warranty? I heard this hitch cause torsion issues on the pinbox that you don't get with a conventional 5th wheel hitch and this is why it may void the trailer MFR warranty.

    I'm no expert but the Anderson hitch raises the mounting point much higher to take the tension off the front of the camper this is just pretty much a regular goose neck..

    I noticed gen y has a 5th wheel box as well. I wonder how well that would ride with your Anderson? I have an Anderson on a 40ft 5th wheel. I do experience chucking but less than my traditional hitch. Just thought this may help if someone would review it.

      GEN-Y's Executive works amazing with the Anderson hitch! You can check out how it rides on The Fast Lane Truck's channel! The TORSION-FLEX technology instilled within this product eliminates chucking as well as gives you a smoother ride!

      I would ask Andersen about it. They don’t want you using a rotoflex pinbox without a lockout kit. Might be something about the extra movement in the shock absorbing pinboxes that they don’t want you to use it.

    So, cool write up. My 2 complaints and lack of motivation to watch other videos is this: your title claims its best 5th wheel hitch for short bed trucks... but you tested with a long bed...... Was really hoping for some action shots of you turning with the short bed to show how close the trailer comes. And measurements from the generator door cover to the center of king pin and then center of gooseneck coupler would have been fantastic.

    I own a Anderson hitch for my 44 footer I like it due to the use of taking it out of the bed very light so it doesn’t bother me it’s not like it weighs two or 300 pounds so yeah I’m Anderson hitch type guy only complaint I think I have a bout the Anderson hitch is the ball that it comes with is made of aluminum I really wish they would’ve been a stainless steel ball

    So what was the reason of choosing the Gen Y instead of the Reese Goosebox?

    • @mobileadventures1813
      @mobileadventures1813 Před 4 lety

      Nathan Nelson only issue with Reese, the gooseneck puts extra torque on the 5th Wheel frame in which it was not designed for. This hitch (Gen Y) has a torsion system that releases that pressure off the frame of the 5th Wheel.

    • @Fuzzy_Noodle
      @Fuzzy_Noodle Před 4 lety

      So the air bag and the shock absorbers don’t help enough? Does the Gen Y keep your factory warranty?

    • @jameschrist3954
      @jameschrist3954 Před 4 lety

      Mobile adventures: that reasoning isn't correct. If you draw a free body diagram of both Gen Y and Reese Goosebox you will see a similar moment about the pin box brackets. The torsion bar and the airbag only lessen the dynamic loads on the frame from road input. I know that LCI has certified the Reese for use on their frames, but don't know about the Gen Y. Both look well built, but the Goosebox has a better latching mechanism in my opinion.

    They don't seem to give me an answer on what model I need I have a gvwr on my trailer of 16500 pin weight of 2500 to 3000 they keep telling me to get the 5500. I guess will ride quality suffer from have torsion.

    • @10001694
      @10001694 Před 3 lety

      I’m asking the same question with Gen-Y. I’m going to a CAT scale and getting the weight of the truck and trailer and then another weight of just the truck. That will give me the true tongue weight . If you have too heavy of a hitch then the torsion hitch will not work the way it should. I have a Solitude and I’m figuring my tongue weight is 2500 - 3000 max so I’m probably going to end up with the 21K and not the 25K (5000#), but I’m going to wait for the scale results first.

  • @royallen9698
    @royallen9698 Před 4 lety

    Andersen is the best way to go in my opinion. Although it does take up a little room in the bed of the truck it's very light weight and very easy to remove as well as attach my trailer. It's even easier to hook up to the trailer if you have an air ride system and auto opening tailgate.
    I believe Reese has the same type of hitch, but you can lock and unlock it from the tailgate area without having to get into the truck.
