The shou sugi ban technique is a great way to waterproof wood. Great little project.
That was my thinking about it but what I did it's not as refined 🤣
That's a good solid build Tomasz 👍. The RSPB recommendations that I've always used are for hole size of 25mm for small birds such as Blue Tits and 32mm for larger birds, Great Tit, Sparrow etc and for the hole to be placed 150mm from the base. Great idea to burn it, I want to try that at some point.
Yes there are different sizes of holes for different species. As I said in the video some of these sizes may be locally based. As the blue tits may vary in size. I got a whole bunch of them in the garden and some of them are huge, I must be feeding them too much 🤣
Great video and useful information. The birds will be very grateful to have so nice home.
Than you kindly
Nice and simple, beautifully made, brilliant 👍... although I didn't know they were so picky about the size of the actual nesting box, so no palaces or castles then 🤣
Hehe neither did I until I researched it a bit 😅
Haha no way. I'm currently working on a nesting box as well. Great advice with the finish and glue man. 👌
Hehe that time of the year mate. Good luck with the build. Still got 2 more to make 😅
@@CasualDIY cool cool. I'm planning on building an illuminated bird penthouse 🤣😅. I'm not entirely sure if this is going to work and if any of the "posh" birds will nest in it but it is worth trying 😎.
Fantastic work, Tomasz! It turned out beautiful! 😃
I only disagree about 2 things: glue and varnish in the outside. Like, if it's ok to use tite bond 3 on cutting boards, I can't see why you wouldn't use for a nest. And the varnish in the outside, once it's cured, it's perfectly food safe as well. So... I don't know, but I'd use both. 😊
Oh, and BTW, I made one already, where I used 2 screws in the top of the front lid, so they work as a hinge, and a hole and a nail in the bottom part to lock it in place. But for that the door needs to fit between the side boards... You know? Anyway, it's on my parent's farm and the birds love it!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I think in the end everyone will do as they believe is right. For me, my knowledge in this field is limited so I went with design and guide lines from people that devoted their whole life to this subject.
On a personal level I think same as you but hey as long as the birds use it and it works for them then that's what matters most 👍
@@CasualDIY That's very true! 😊
Nice little project. Thanks for sharing. Where did you buy the shim at 4:44 ? How did you attach the nesting box to the tree?
I bought a bag of them different sizes in Wickes.
Well I used long strong cable ties, I drilled a vertical hole in the back support. One at top one at bottom and put the cable ties through and then around the tree. But they say it's better to just put screws.
Sikorki będą szczesliwe 🐦🐦
Tez tak myślę 👍😅
