Letâs talk about how you can get vitamin D without taking supplements and without the risks of skin damage from the sun.
Melanin is a pigment in our skin that helps block UV radiation. If you have darker skin, you have more melanin-if you have lighter skin, you have less melanin. The more melanin you have, the more natural protection you have against UV radiation.
Letting your skin burn in the sun can cause skin damage and increase your risk for skin cancer. Chronic exposure to UV radiation can decrease your vitamin A, alter your DNA, and create free radical damage.
However, if you can expose yourself to sunlight without sunburn, you can decrease your risk of cancer.
Nineteen thousand genes in your body require vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential to decrease your risk of viral infections, autoimmune diseases, depression, and high blood pressure.
Ways to help protect against sun damage and skin cancer naturally:
⢠Consume foods high in vitamin C
⢠Consume foods rich in vitamin E
⢠Get plenty of folate, niacin, and magnesium
⢠Do fasting
⢠Get on a low-carb diet
You can also try homemade sunscreen if you frequently get a lot of sun exposure. Here is a fantastic DIY sunscreen recipe.
Ingredients:
⢠1/4 cup coconut oil
⢠1/4 cup olive oil
⢠1/4 cup sesame oil
⢠2 Tbsp zinc oxide (non-nano)
Mix all ingredients and apply the natural sunblock to your skin-itâs that simple!

Dr. Berg, my fiancĂŠâs brain is having neuronic problems.
I suspect she has neuronic degeneration.
She has trouble with:
1. Perception.
2. Balance.
3. Spatial awareness.
4. Almost random, Involuntary spasms.
5. Noise and light sensitivity.
6. Sensitivity to cold.
7. Has trouble standing straight when sheâs tired. Sheâll lose her balance if sheâs not holding something.

I have Irish, pale, freckle skin that burns quickly. Went keto in 2018, stopped all processed oils in favour of natural fats and expeller pressed oils. Result - I can do yard work in summer for over an hour in mid day and I donât burn anymore. Crazy to me.
I read somewhere once that it's possible skin cancer is the result of our chemical laden food in our bodies reacting with the sun.
Wow, great information. Thanks.
Thats awesomeđđŞđť
the same for me. I'm a red headed pale skinned and since I'm on keto it takes longer to get sunburn, it's faster to cure and the sunburns don't hurt as much
yes true. my dad has the same. but theres still uvA that we need to protect ourselves from
The sun sustains life.
Sunrise and sunset rays are the BEST in my opinion! They just reach the soul and make me stop whatever Iâm doing and just be.
How can you not love this guy!?!
I do love him...he is awesome and very handsome! I love to listen to his voice. It is very calm and relaxing and he is really informative!!
I love his information!
Heliophile here. I love the sun. Always have!! I have said for years that I am solar powered. Laying in the sun feels amazing to me and generates so much energy and mood elevation. It is one of the best doctors there is!đđ
A heliophile too âď¸ đ
It does the opposite for me :( I wish I felt like that. I feel so drained and sick⌠it makes me get very emotional too.
Our family stopped using sunblock. I noticed my kids were playing outside for short times in the sun, coming in and out of the house. They never burned, they just continued to get tan skin. Over time, it would get more tan. So my husband and I did the same. By our first pool day, we didnât get burnt. No sunblock. Just shade breaks. I also stopped wearing sunglasses, which I believe helped big time.
Interesting. How do you believe the sunglasses helped?
@@Davo198 I read somewhere that our eyes help determine how much sun is ok for our skin to handle. So if we wear them all the time, it messes with that internal filtration that we have. Iâve also noticed, when I donât wear them, I feel better, mentally and my eyes seem to handle the sun better. One more great change Iâve noticed, is the color of my eyes is more vibrant. I have blue eyes, but noticed over the years that my eyes have been gray, not blue. Since Iâve stopped wearing sunglasses, theyâre blue again.
â@@melissajackson9458 don't mean to burst a bubble but 1. U will get tan but the damage is not apparent, eventually the damage adds up and u get increased risk of skin cancers and 2. The colour of blue eyes doesn't come from a pigment but rather from light reflecting in certain ways and so when u wear sunglasses the light going to ur eyes is less and so they appear less blue or gray
I must say that the more I listen to your videos, the more I am amazed at how incredibly complex AND beautiful our bodies are when properly taken care of. God put so many intricately woven pieces together in our bodies that synchronize so well with our natural environment, that it is truly baffling, incredulous, and awe inspiring! Thank you for your research and explanations.

@Eucharist Angel
Dr. Berg is welcome to his belief! But he could also be simply stating the truth that human bodies have adapted to our changing environment⌠I simply give all the glory to God as my creator, the one who sustains my life through this world.
Our environment is becoming more and more toxic ⌠The sun is letting off more radiation due to solar flares, we have more pollution, chem trailing, poisonous GMO foods, weather manipulation ⌠nothing like the simple and clean life of hundreds of years ago. Our bodies have had to adapt (âevolveâ if you will) to a lot of unnecessary external forces.
I am african and in my family we don't avoid the sun and we don't age prematurely nor get wrinkles easily.
Exposure from 6:30 am and 10:30 am then after just don't stay too long outside
Early morning sunlight is best IMO
This is the reason why so many succumbed to Covid or got very sick. Your reasoning is spot on.

@@rajeshkab Don't forget the more viruses you catch, the stronger your immune system gets. It's called training. Everyday we catch hundreds and thousands of viruses everyday in everything we touch and breath. I've seen this video before. At almost 72, the last few years, no suntan lotion(too many chemicals). I get out for an hour or two whenever the weather is nice. It makes me feel so vibrant and healthy. I am careful not to
burn as I do have a fairer skin tone.
This makes so much sense as to why I need 10,000 Vitamin D. The typical Doctor recommendation didnt do much for me being tan skinned.
The sun is incredible!! I feel alive when Iâm in it. Iâm moving to Florida!!! Canât wait!

Yes indeed đ
Hi Dr. Berg. I have been watching you for many years. Thank for the plethora of knowledge that you shared with us. I have stage 4 melanoma that spread to the bones and lungs. You did an interview one time with a gentleman that had a case similar to mine. He said he beat the cancer with food and diet. I sounded Spanish or European. I would greatly appreciate if you can share that interview with me. You might save my life. Thank you and God bless you and your family
Dr your amazing ! Awesome factual information ! Thank you đ
I love that you included the recipe for a diy natural sunscreen as good ones can become costly. Unfortunately I am actually allergic to the sun and itâs even more crucial for me to put on sunscreen so I can minimize the effects that it has on me. I cant wait to make it next spring/summer!đ
An English neighbour burned every year from the Aussie sun until our Greek neighbour told him to take a dessertspoon of olive oil daily. He started in winter and the first summer did not burn once. Everyone I've told about this has had good results.
That is AMAZING! What a great tip.
đ¤ I wonder if it works taking coconut oip or MCT oil also? ... because that is what I use to make my keto coffee.
Wow thats incredible!
Dr Berg , I was just thinking about the same issue. How can we get VitD without skin cancer. Glad you made video.
Always learning something new on here!! I like to get 30-90 minutes of Sunlight per day in the spring and summer. The fall and winter start to change quite a bit where I am, so I don't go out as much since there are minimal levels of rays of sunlight. Fresh Air and Sunlight are important, so I like to walk at the tracks outdoors while I still can, weather permitting.
Thank you so very much for this video. Iâm 63 years old. Grew up in Florida on the east coast. Two years ago a growth appeared on my left shin and it grew rapidly. Turns out it was stage 3 malignant melanoma. At the time it was diagnosed I was also diagnosed with hypertension, high cholesterol and pre-diabetes. I started intermittent fasting and the Keto diet. I still have hypertension but am no longer pre-diabetic. I also lost 48 pounds. But my oncologist and dermatologist both warn me against going out in the sun unless Iâm fully clothed, slacks, long sleeve shirt, hat. Too hot for all that in the summer months. So thank you again for the video. Great information. đ
Too much vegetable/ seed oils may help form melanoma. Read about Prof. Peskin parent seed oil research.
Too much citrus or acidic food (tomatoes) causes me to burn easily and get red blotchy skin.
I hope you beat the melanoma, too.

This is great. I was already doing most of this, but getting the full break down is a big part of why I watch all of Dr. Bergs videos.
I just had skin cancer removed from my nose with mohs surgeryâŚ. I NEVER go in the sun as an adult & wear 110 spf- but as a kid I was in the sun & got bad sunburns-- so it laid dormant in my body for 40+ years
My dad has lots of skin cancer and he has been covered up since I was a kid. He used to lay out in the sun a bit but I donât even recall him burning so Iâm wondering if it happened when he was a kid maybe. Heâs 90 now. ⤠hope you do well and donât have any other issues!
I use a cream from Apricot Power, it's about $60. but worth every penny! Does great for removal of ALL skin issues!!
I will always blame chemical sunscreens for this.
Better to use a zinc based physical sunscreen. You can check for a safe one on ewg if you don't want to diy your own.
@Bumblebee yes! I also believe that chemical sunscreens have caused skin cancer to be so prevalent. I usually recommend Badger brand
I grew up on the Texas coast on the beach, and still have a pool and love the sun, pink the first day, then tan after that. Im educating my Drs on statin drugs, and how its hurts my recovery from sepsis. The good news is he's willing to learn

I am fair skinned and have typically burned in the past, where now since hiking more and watching insects in the foliage it seemed to me that was the secret. being able to switch from sun to shade often .. but the ideal location seems to be straddling the edge. the exposure, radiation, temp is naturally diffuse. it bounces off the surrounding surfaces (which is why you can still get roasted in a t-shirt at a cloudy beach) results are healthier skin, better eyesight, less fatigue.
I have a cousin who burns because they are a red head, freckles, etc. recently told me their hair has now changed color (getting older). interesting.
the Irish have a lot of red heads, and they get a lot of clouds.
the darkest skin cultures are at the equator.
the in-between skin .. in the middle (except the inuit)
nature has dialed in the melatonin pigments pretty spot on, and thus when different skin colors are living in different locations they can def get deficiency issues and need to supplement.
def need to get my blood work on that done (then will explore more D3 / K2 concentrations)

From everything I've read and studied, you are spot on on all of this! Thanks Dr Berg... So far this year I've logged 105 hours of sunlight over the summer. It's the BEST mood enhancer, relaxer and healing recovery tool IMHO.
Short consistent naked blasts to maximize your exposure without over doing it. With that said, I remember seeing a study that people who work as landscape gardeners had lower prevalence of melanoma than office workers, which is interesting as it seems counterintuitive on the face of it. However, not so much when you realise the outdoor workers are always exposed, and so they keep a tan and don't burn continuously, they have benefits of consistent exposure. On the other hand, office workers are indroor away from the sun most of the year, but then rush out on a holiday a few times a year and burn like mad, then hide from it again. They don't keep consistent exposure, and so get more damage and less protection over the course of the year.
Thanks for the DIY sunscreen recipe.
You're very welcome.
Thank you Dr Berg, your videos are a blessing. đđ˝
Very glad to be of help.
Some of your old videos on Omega 3 to protect against sunburn made miracles for my skin. I think you made them in 2017. I used to burn within 30 minutes of sun exposure all my life until these videos of yours. Now I can stay many hours under the sun without any burn and my skin looks so much better too. Up to 35 degrees Celsius, thatâs 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Italian type weather. I have seen best results with 3 tablespoons of cod liver oil a day (from cod liver cans). Since I have not seen another video of yours on using cod liver oil to protect oneâs skin against sunburn, I wonder if you have seen undesirable effects or insufficient results from ingesting cod liver oil as an anti sunburn tool. â¤
How are you using it, internally or externally? Internally I assume, otherwise I can't imagine the smell. đ¤ˇââ
That stuff tastes awful though. Bought one can of King Oscar cod liver and it stank up my fridge so bad. i had to throw it away.

I got burned a bit when I was a kid. Those burns have come back to haunt me with 3 basal cell carcinomas removed already in my 30's. Am 42 now and am having a small suspicious mole removed in a couple weeks as a potential baby melanoma. That said, I absolutely believe that SOME sun is crucial. I believe that the cancers I have had (all small and superficial by the way), have been the result of DNA damage as a kid. Since then I have been very careful with my skin and rarely, if ever got burned. I feel amazing after 10 minutes in the back yard getting sun, with bare feet on the grass and dirt. My diet mostly has been paleo, but recently switched to mostly grass-fed meats, some fresh fruits and berries, eggs, fish, chicken and zucchini, cucumber and mushrooms. Feeling amazing now. Hitting lots of personal bests in the gym too on my major lifts. So the extra protein is obviously helping!
I use to be out in the sun a lot, but always protecting my face. I noticed rapid hair growth from spending time in the Sun.

@@KattryyyneLAikoO people would do better to ignore their dermatologist. I mean donât go out and fry yourself but slathering all that sunscreen on is not healthy either.
I've never had problems with the sun, but I know some people have had good results eating saturated fats and more protein and excluding seed oils and excessive carbs and sugar.
The changes help you avoid burning in the sun more than any sunscreen ever will. The protection is everywhere, no risk of missing a spot.
