Lol
"Feelings are like farts - you gotta let them out while still being respectful of the people around you" might be my favorite quote of the year.
Thank you! Heard the "feelings are like farts" quote on Tiktok, but added the second part.
lol that's the part that makes it a poem
I want that on a throw pillow
I follow a ""talking" dog, using buttons and he combines words for new meanings. Eg: Farts are "poop play". 😂
Yes, let it go but don't make a big fuss about it
Imagine you get home from work and the light is on for a new message, and you're expecting something super heartfelt, but it just says "don't forget to take out the trash"
10/10
at least you can claim you never saw it once it has been shredded ;)
I like that the note would then become more trash
@@NotTheStinkyCheesethe fact that it's shredded is proof that you have opened the box and have read the message.
@@svenwouters9547
...
what message?
You could put this in an art gallery or museum. Have visitors write affirmations for other visitors. It would be such a fun interactive installation. Even have the paper shreds build up and in the end fill the entire room, forcing people to navigate trough the physical representation of words. I would love to have this.
wow that's an amazing idea
Love this concept!
*opens lid*
note: “bitch.”
*bzzzzzzzzz*
Someone please do this...💗💖♥️
this is some marina abramovic level performance art
Two things, I feel like this needs to make a regular appearance in your episodes now. As transition screens, or for sign offs. Imagine "three weeks later...." then it shreds. So good. Second, I would certainly buy this if you made it and sold it in your shop.
Okay, a third thing. I would write "I want to tell you a secret. Flip me over..." By the time they read it, and learn they need to flip the paper, it will be shredding, and leave them with the existential dread of never knowing. I'd only use it for my enemies though...
I'd put my worries into the box. write down the worry, put it in the box, turn the light on. Go and reflect on the worry, and come back to shred it when I've processed and let the worry go!
That's really nice! I like that it becomes a 2 step process
that's fantastic
Love that. I think this is Simone's most poetic project.
Perfect!
That's so smart. When I have something that's weighing me down I usually write it down on a piece of paper and burn it. That has been my process since I was about 14 (I'm 33 now). It works for me.
"Few things are more satisfying than when two things that have nothing to do with each other, perfectly fit" is basically what a relationship is.
Word
LOL yeah you're right
I would love to experience that at some point.
And the fun part of a relationship
"I'm either about to have a really good idea or I'm about to sneeze. I can't really tell which one. No, it's just a sneeze." - this spoke to me on so many levels
I once made a suggestion box for work that used a long sheet of black vinyl in an s-roller configuration to store written suggestion papers submitted on one roller while simultaneously releasing pre-shredded paper from the other roller into a clear plastic bin, below. It was hilarious watching the reactions of folks who saw their suggestions being shredded. But it was even better when they started making requests and asking questions like, "Tell me the meaning of life, the universe and everything." on their 'suggestions' and then seeing a stickie on their desk , the next day, with, "42". Eventually, they figured out that if they submitted suggestions on yellow legal paper, the shredding was all white paper.
You are so smart
make another one that shreds the real note, but has a scanner first and just emails you the pdf ;)
@@scheisstelefonful I have a portable Neat scanner that might work but I'm not sure how to handle the emailing part and wonder if the slower action would enhance or take away from the experience of watching the 'shredding'.
as a non maker but a big thinker of doing things that is genius
"I appreciate you all so much, and sometimes when I think about everything you've done for me I get really overwhelmed & worry that I'm not enough. But I've also worked really hard to set boundaries around my work life & I'm sorry that sometimes affects our relationship. You're the best."
thanks I was looking for this
Me too! 😊
Genius, thanks!
Missed 2 or 3 important words.

When I find myself violating work/life boundaries, I remind myself that I am a mentor and a role model and should model heathy behavior.

I couldn't figure out "set boundaries" thank you
Thanks, bud!
i turned up the resolution to max, and still couldn't get every word, but i got the sentiment at least. thanks for getting what i couldn't!

Ahhh... Yea set boundaries makes more sense than spit rainbows 😂
"I'm about to have a really good idea or sneeze." has to be an all time favourite quote.
What my note would say: "Simone is one of the most honest and talented makers out there."
"What did the horse say when it fell down? Help I've fallen and can't giddy up." This is what I would write for my kids to find in the box.
I didn't know Laura's obsession for Aluminium Boxes was so contagious 😂
hehehehehhe 😀
I also wondered which feelings she wanted to cofess to Laura by using an aluminium box 😂
It's quite _Al_ consuming.
@@Sonnenbogen_Henni Glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought this was Laura related, lol
Everyone loves aluminum. Fascinating metal
Out of all the things you've made, I feel like this is the one I want to personally own the most. It's just extremely cute.
Hopefully it'll hit the Yetch Store.
This or the puzzle table for me! I love puzzles. Haha.
"Agent Phelps, should you accept this heartfelt note or not, it will self-destruct in 5 seconds."
See that L. May MFG. aluminum lunch box warmed my heart so much! Made in my hometown so miners can take their lunch underground and have a place to sit to eat. These lunchboxes are engrained in memory of my Grandfathers, my dad and uncles. And seeing what you did with my grand-papa's old lunch box, something that the women in my life would fill with food/love, was amazing, sentimental and absolutely made my day.
Merci beaucoup!!!
What you make is always an inspiring good idea!
SURPRISE ELECTROBOOM!
So are we going to see a video where you make a similar device except that the paper turns into smoke and flames under an electric arc? (And not to forget triggers the smoke detector) all on the premise of not having to deal with those stupid paper shreds?
well that really does explain alot!
“What I like most about you is how you keep every card, letter and even all the tiny hand written notes I’ve ever given to you. Please don’t ever change!”

You're way more than enough, everything you have done is an inspiration. You're already a role model as is, everything you do now is appreciated but not expected.
Simone, we appreciate you too. Thank you for the kind note at the end.
Also I feel like I can speak for most of us in saying: you are enough, and your videos bring us joy whenever they appear. You living a healthy life and having the spoons to put into making a video is more important than any perceived obligation to follow a schedule. We will still love your videos and your perspective and your ideas and your passion, whether they come out once a week or once every blue moon.
I remember a previous video where you and Laura are talking about your respective processes, and you are both questioning whether you can refer to yourselves as artists, and I dunno if your feelings on the matter have changed since then but I just want to tell you YOU ARE and THIS IS ART and THIS IS VERY VERY GOOD ART
YES THIS.
Agreed: this is the overlap of art and engineering
Such good art. Please see this Simone and start entering some art competitions; you will win. You have a gift, AND you've worked to build creative skill in yourself. You're an inspiration

I go to a retreat where we have a "burning bowl ceremony". The fire gets to eat anything (written down) we want out of the fronts of our minds, our lives... It can be traits we want to work on removing, negative self talk, divorce papers, etc. Our fall retreat doesn't always have dry weather (the bowl is really a outdoor fire pit) and this would be a perfect rainy day stand in. Not having your skill set, I wonder if you would sell this. Or maybe have detailed plans that someone in our group could follow. Hopefully. There's an indoor fire place where we could burn the shreds, not needing privacy at that point. We could sure use your genious❣️ Thanks, Simone.
this could be such a cool museum piece. each person leaves a message for the next
"I will fois gras words of affirmation down the throats of everybody that I love" is the greatest phrase I've ever heard and also hits way too close to home. I feel that so hard.
About your last note: you are the only youtuber i have notifications on for and when i recieve one it makes my day, thank you and anything you do is incredible because of who you are, dont put yourself into pressure to keep any level of quality you think we expect
"Ahhhh help me! I'm being shredded! I am just an innocent piece of paper!"
I would use it to start a detective movie.
Victim walks into the room. Sees the metal lunch box. Is curious and opens it. The note says "The killer is behind you", they turn and scream. Camera does a close up of their face. Cut to black, and start the intro credits, with light jazz in the background.
it would be great for a murder mystery or escape room
Lol it’s a serial killer, and this is his signature move. Movie is called THE BOX.
I'm so glad Simone is happy and healthy, always inspiring!

I'm so glad that you're glad that Simone is happy and healthy, always inspiring
"I appreciate you all so much, and sometimes when I think about everything you've done for me I get really overwhelmed & worry that I'm not enough. But I've also worked really hard to set boundaries around my work life & I'm sorry that that sometimes affects our relationship. You're the best."
That's really understandable Simone, we'll always be here to support you. Keep rocking.
Something poetic about the clogged toilet one going in the shredder a little wonky. Love this.
I think maybe I'd use the confession box more as a "things I need to let go box". I'd write down something that I am struggling with letting go, place it in the box, and when I think I'm ready to watch it go away, let the box do its magic. Also I think I'd add a slot in the lid to feed the message without opening it. I'm already designing that part for 3D printing even though I don't have the skill to make the box itself. P.S. You're great!
I’m thinking “incinerator”… but also thinking of the massive fire hazard that could cause. Lol! But I like the idea!
@@TiffanyLeClair I think your incinerator idea might be something to put in the "Let things go" box. I don't know you but I can confidently say that neither of us should be making such things lol. (But if you do it I wanna see)
Love this
I like the idea of a “things I need to let go of box” because there is just some stuff I-and my entire family-have been holding onto for too long, so it would definitely be nice to see them shredded away :).
This may be the most brilliant build you've ever done, Simone! Perfect idea; perfect execution (especially the ideas self-talk!); thoughtful/charming/elegant structure achieved!!
Aw thank you!! Always feel a bit insecure about videos so hearing that means a lot.
@@simonegiertz Don't forget it Simone you're the GOAT!
@@realcreature3D, agree. I'd buy both, probably.
My note to my partner would be: "this box & shredder combo accurately represents how my brain handles memories, but to me you are unforgettable" 😂 when I started dating my partner 8+ years ago we used the phrase "trash compactor brain" to describe how my brain handles many long-term memories. 5 years of data can condensed down into maybe 1-2 things I am able to remember from that time (trauma and PTSD do not work wonders for the mind). I love this shredder concept!
Your library ladder brought back so many memories. I scaled them at the U of I archives. They were wider and with handrails but were far more difficult to move: Giant stacks of shelves with more writing than could be read in a lifetime. Reality as it is, we are always reinviting because life is rich. Live your own. Create your own.
Love it! It's like Banksy designed a lunch box for Ethan Hunt, and you somehow also managed to make it heart warming!
“Feelings are like farts you gotta to let them out but still be respectful of those around you” is genius way to put it I will be using it for helping kids with big feelings
I know exactly where I need to shove this can of febreze at now.
As a grownup with big feelings, just keep in mind that traumadumping is something you can't really controll, so the guideline is nice, but kids need to be able to let feelings out whenever they need to, unless it is a really exrreme occassion.
@@Widdekuu91 you'll love this story then, a DJ at a local radio station here felt the need to trauma dump on everyone during the morning drive-time by announcing over the air that his dog had died and he started crying on air. I mean wtf?
Sounds like someone with a heart, unlike you. @@FLOODOFSINS
@@Widdekuu91This. Minus the 'unlike you' part.
That press the button on open mechanism is so satisfying. So simple and effective.
I don't typically give words of affirmation to too many people but I'll give it a shot here.
"Your beauty captured my eye, but it's your brilliance, creativity and quirky wit that truly captured my heart."
About the note at the end: You will always be more than enough. You are an amazing person who makes wonderful and inspiring videos, and I love every single one of them. I know it's hard not to worry, but I also know that I and I'd bet an immense amount of other people are really grateful for you. So, thank you! :)
If I had a confession box I'd leave it for my mom. "hey mama I'm trans and I'm scared that you wont love me the same if you knew"
She's told me countless times that nothing would make her love me less, and she's been so supportive of everything in my life but i dont know if i could ever get those words out of my mouth.
You'll do it when you're ready, honey.
And if when you do... She reacts in a way that upsets you negatively... You have a brand new lesbian Aunty that loves and supports you very much ❤️
It’s damn scary to say out loud for the first time. I did four years ago, and only after I couldn’t stand keeping it inside myself any longer. You’ll know when you have to, and don’t wait any longer than that moment. I know I wouldn’t be here today if I hadn’t told my ma when I did.
You are worthy. I hope you're able to share this with her one day and to receive the acceptance and unconditional love you deserve.
I hope you can do it, took me a lot of time to do it myself, literally sat silent around my mum for hours until I managed to start the conversation. It obviously took her a few days to understand everything (nobody talks about that stuff here in Egypt) but she's now very supportive of me, we're actually much closer now, the closest we've been in a decade or more. (my dad though, that's a whole other story)
BTW it took me 32 years to figure out myself, it's never too late.
Edit: also one tip that could help, try to remember dysphoric moments from your life that your mum would remember, you might be surprised that she remembers them but couldn't really understand what you were going through (eg: times when you wanted to hide your body, moments when you cringed hard when she complemented your masculinity/femininity or called you a man/woman), this will help bridge the empathy and will strengthen the bond you have.
I'd put in my moms Tuna fish pasta salad recipe.
~MOM'S TUNA-MACARONI SALAD~
1 package (6 or 7 ounces) shell macaroni
1 cup cubed Cheddar cheese
1 can (7 ounces) tuna, drained
3/4 cup sliced sweet pickles (chopped)
1/3 cup minced onion
1 cup mayonnaise
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cloves garlic, crushed
Cook macaroni. Drain; rinse with cold water.
Combine macaroni, cheese, tuna, pickles and onion in large bowl. Stir together salad dressing, salt, pepper and garlic; pour over macaroni mix- ture and toss. Cover; chill at least 3 hours. If dry, add pickle juice.
6 TO 8 SERVINGS.
When I woke up this morning, watching Simone build a love machine out of a paper shredder and a metal lunchbox was NOT what I thought I'd be doing today.
I don’t mind doing this, any day!
Why is this soo cute?!
Hope it gets added to the store ☀️
Seconded.
I'd write, "Quick! It's right behind you!"
"Paper shredding is my kink" would be my submission to the secret box
Shoutout to Don as an unseen but essential pillar of support of this channel.
If I had a confession box, I wouldn't actually write a "confession" on it, I would draw a random picture, then after it gets shredded I would pull all the shredded paper out and puzzle it back together in a new picture and see what I get.
This reminds me of the bit that the old 1960s show "Mission Impossible" always started with where the group leader (Stephen Hill, Peter Graves) would start the show getting the mission from a tape recorder which would then destroy the tape after 10 seconds.
Dunno if the new movies kept this bit - don't care. They just aren't the same.
Amazing as usual!
I'm not catholic, but I feel like this would be a great alternative to spoken confessionals. All the priest has to do is open the little self-shredder box and then pass it back through the curtain.
I love you in exactly the magnitude and direction that is appropriate for a disembodied voice from the internet. That really needs some safety features, like a light gate, because I would totally lose a finger desperately trying to save a message.
If it brings you any comfort I am very embodied
@@simonegiertz That's exactly what a disembodied internet voice would say! 🤣
It also needs more unsafety features, like making the chamber underneath incinerate the shreds.
@@topherthe11th23 I did a jaw drop when I read her comment. I'm pretty sure it didn't mean what we think it means. I couldn't think of a non-awkward response, so thanks for falling on that grenade for me.
It’s like a Banksy machine. Doodle a one-of-kind priceless artwork on a notecard, then they get 5 seconds to appreciate it before it shreds itself.
With a slight modification, this is exactly the kind of message device Dianna would love. The mod - make it produce a message, rather than shred it. When she feels she has the energy for a message, she opens the box, and a preloaded message pops up for her to enjoy. Kyle could load the machine with select encouraging messages from family, friends, and followers for her to enjoy at her own pace.
Take all the love confetti and cast them in resin. A love confetti paperweight? Turn it on a lathe and make a love confetti vase? So many ideas! Thank you Simone.
I'd confess that its me that goes around every workshop on the planet hiding the 10mm sockets from everyone's socket sets when their backs are turned.
This has to be one of the best things you've ever invented. Not only is it silly and fun, it's actually practical in mentally healthy sort of way.
Thank you for making and sharing.
That library ladder is amazing, I need one, even though I don't have things stored higher than I can reach, or a workshop in which those non-existent things would be stored 😂
You might want to secure your hair when using tools with rapidly rotating components. You had me holding my breath as you were leaning over the table saw cutting the boards to size 😬
I feel like it needs a microphone and a sound clip that plays "This message will self destruct in 5 seconds!" in an ominous robot voice when the box opens.
Lovely thing! One step up had to be if you added a thermal printer that prints something positive, from a database, feed from a social media flow or crowd collected "happiness thoughts". Voila, it prints directly to the shredder and you always got something positive to reflect on when you open it :)
This low key / high key GENIUS. You should get these made. My note would say “you are like my bra, you support me and hold everything together”. Great work as always Simone ❤

You need to add a customizable timer for longer messages. That last one was a perfect example of its limitations. Also I love the idea of someone combining this with a Polaroid to just use it as an analogue Snapchat
a stack of paper and a pencil would be nice, bonus if it also has a pencil sharpener.
I think all machines are love machines if you LOVE MACHINES ❤️
I'm going to use this defence in comment court
Not only it's creative, it's also well-executed. If the shredding was too slow or too fast, it wouldn't have this dramatic feeling.
"feelings are like farts: you have to let them out while being respectful of others" isn't the best part of this video but it's what I'm going to remember the longest

I think the addition of the light, showing a new message is there, was a great idea. If you opened it, and nothing was there to read, it would be kind of a let down. Knowing there is something waiting to be read makes this 100% better!
"shred after feeling" I love this.
Wait, I thought BetterHelp had this huge scandal about selling their users‘ sensitive data and also treating their staff poorly? But they keep being featured as sponsors wherever I go on CZcams

Hey, Simone. I just found your channel via PhysicsGirl. You posted an update on her channel, I guess it was 6 mo ago. I mean, an update on Dianna's health, and I just wanted to send her lots of love. I believe this particular video of yours is very appropriate for my trying to convey feelings to someone like Dianna. You being her friend, and keeping in touch with her via her hubsy. Lots of love to her and her hubsy and her family and her doctors and nurses, etc. And lots of love to you too. I hope Dianna recovers fully; she's the kind of person who can restore one's hope in humanity.
This was so lovely and charming, I would 10/10 use a “share hard feelings and/or jokes” box with a partner!!
This is your absolute best yet piece. I was not sure at first description but the end product has so many levels and it makes me smile. Thank you. Another old guy that loves your work.
admitting that i was wrong about a certain argument would be totally my go to note. need to be destroyed instantly and denied it ever existed afterwards.
This may be your most delightful invention yet. Fun and thoughtful at the same time. Thank you for the joy you bring to those who have joined you on your journey, myself included
Please don't chase perfection! Being who you are and doing what you love is enough power to make perfection turn on it's heels and run for the hills. Love you Simone.
Remember, BetterHelp sells your health data to outside companies!
I looked this up and there's a great article from March 2023 by The Verge which explains the FTC case about this. Apparently from 2017 to 2020 BetterHelp shared patient data (IP addresses and emails) with advertisers like Facebook. This isn't anything out of the ordinary, whenever you buy from an online shop the same thing happens. But because BetterHelp promised their customers that their data was being kept private, they're being charged with making misleading claims (up to $8million which will be paid to customers who used their service between 2017-2020). Not sure where the case is at now, the FTC website is undergoing maintenance so I can't check.
Personally I wouldn't care if Facebook found out that I use a service like this and showed me targeted ads based on it. But I'm sure there are many scenarios for others where this could be very distressing. And I absolutely would be angry if I was told explicitly that my data was being kept private.
Edit: I'm not in the USA and I'm definitely not a legal expert, so I have no idea if there's also talk of a HIPAA violation here.
how don't more people know this??
I'd definitely write something like: "Good job for not dying today!" and then just repeat that every day.
That yellow light is the perfect finishing touch. Great idea. Great execution. I mean good job bringing your concept to life. I don't think you killed somebody.
This is a flippin' amazing idea! Ooh what I'd do to have one. But I'm absolutely useless when it comes to building stuff. Or, alright, that was a lie. I'm quite good at it.
But I am;

For my confession note I'd write "Hey, wishful thinker, what if this is Simone's favorite answer?"
I love the warmth and intention behind this build. This really cheered me up today. Thanks Simone
How much joy and laughs, I receive from watching Your videos. Thank You.
This is such a sick little build and fun idea for a shop!!! So much creativity. I’d love to see it rechargeable!!
While I love the episodes where things go....Not Well, and we get to see the "persevere through adversity and end up with something maybe not as originally envisioned but still pretty cool", I loved watching your joy at Things Unexpectedly Fitting Perfectly First Try. It's great to have both kinds of experiences :) Thanks Simone!
In 50 seconds I've never been more called out... or seen... than this.
I love the idea of leaving completely unhelpful notes in there. Then when you get annoyed at the unhelpfullness of the note, it starts to be shredded. Its like you have telekenisis, but only when you're mildly annoyed.
I really love the work of your cameraman and your editor! But of course, I like you more than I like other people. This is definitely more than great!
I would write “you fill me with so much joy that it’s hard to speak sometimes”
You are more than enough Simone. I genuinely see you as an inspiration. I love the crazy ideas you come up with. They are unique and innovative. Creating a work/life balance isn't a bad thing nor should you feel guilt over. It keeps you healthy and sane. Keep being your corky and authentic self.
One of the coolest simplest things you have ever made. It is so elegant and meaningful.
"Feelings are like farts." Simone, I stinking love you!
I see what ya did there.
What an absolutely brilliant idea 💡🗳️! This has to be one of your most thought provoking projects, because it’s something you made to share your inner most thoughts with someone you care about, but making sure it stays just between the two of you.
You're an inspiration, Simone! Keep the fantastic videos coming!
That would be a wild way to receive the "it's not you, it's me" message.
This is so much fun, it might be my favorite of your projects (besides Truckla). My wife and I like all kinds of puzzles/riddles, so I think my note would be something like a top line that says "Have fun taping" with some kind of riddle below that she won't have enough time to solve so she'd have to tape all the pieces back together :P And then the solution to the riddle would be something along the lines of "thanks for helping put me back together when I fall apart"
