If Laura and Simone were neighbors they'd be unstoppable. Such a great dynamic.
the atlantic ocean is the only thing keeping utter chaos at bay
Well... we all know what happens when two good neighbours get together... czcams.com/video/PvVjTjMZzo0/video.html
They would have too much power!! The universe isn't ready, that's why they need an ocean between them
Laura made a video just recently where she shipped a cart, some supplies and tools off to LA for unspecified future “big exciting things”. I’m kinda hoping (given she is LA based) Simone is involved in whatever that is.
they are already unstoppable, but there's dogs involved too
Laura: Builds a house entirely with clay walls.
Also Laura a few months later: I've never done anything with clay!
Well, everyone builds an entire house out of clay. That's like the first thing you learn to do as a toddler.
Lmao that was my thought exactly
I cannot get enough of Simone and Laura working together! It's so fun to watch two talented and creative makers have a good time making things together.
I love watching Simone’s videos. I love watching Laura’s videos. Watching Simone + Laura videos is hard because of the tears rolling down my face from laughing so hard! Love it!
Unless it’s an led, those flowers are going to die and turn brown really fast.
The trick with clay is that it must dry very slowly and evenly. It's common practice to wrap the clay part in some badly sealed plastic bags so you keep some moisture inside as it dries over about a month (sometimes you can cut it down to about two weeks depending on what's in the clay).
Friend of mine built a clay oven over an entire year. It's a pretty damn amazing oven!
Another ceramicist here! The clay was also under " stress" because as it was shrinking from the water evaporating, it was wrapped around the glass lid which had no give, so clay typically has a shrinkage rate of around 10%, and without that extra space to shrink it cracked along any weak point it could find!
I was a Play Doh expert when I was 4, you needed to eat the clay after making something with it. I guess. I have no idea really.
so you're one of the "clay people" simone talked about ;)
I came here to say that! (engaging comment)
You two are so great. I did something similar in college, in 1973. Once the flowers died and dried, I found out it became a fire hazard. Now, with LEDs I'm not catching anything on fire....well...
I hope you learned that the easy way, at least.
that was my first thought when i saw it, id be worried about that bulb burning the flowers especially once they start drying out. im hoping simone thought of this?
I thought about this, and then “oh yeah LED lamps. Everything is LED now”
So yeah I guessing heat from the bulb isn’t going to be a problem
Yeah, I was also surprised that they didn't use LEDs, and was worried about flammability when I saw the finished product.
@@greensteve9307 probably a fake bulb with leds in it
This looks amazing. You could even just sell a lid to go on a standard jam jar.
😊
Jar sizes aren’t standardized I don’t think? 🤔
@@lnt305, mason jars in the US are a pretty standard size.
@@lnt305 Ball Jars are. They're the kind you use for canning. They sell very standard sizes with standard-size lids, and they're extremely common, at least in the US.
Edit: emma already said this. Oh well, reinforcing her point.
I feel like it's not even necessary to screw on the jar, it just needs to stay on top ov the vase/jar.
That way size wouldn't be a problem. It could be compatible with everything that can hold water and is deep enough for the flowers.
Any day is a great day for a Simone + Laura collab!
@@tjb94try doing some work. Beggars are losers.

Not a minute in and Simone bursts into laughter. We know where this is going, and it is called delight.

The shot of Simone looking down at flamp in the dark while it's on is so beautiful. Simone looks so at peace, that look of contentment and awe. So beautiful.
This is Simone in her happy place.
❤
Also when she got the idea of the Flamp - she looked just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz!
My favorite happy Simone video is still the one of her taking the zero G flight
@@JudeFergy Good choice! ❤
@7:59
There's something heartwarming about the way Simone, Laura and also Adam Savage show their childlike (said as a compliment) enthusiasm toward building stuff, and knowing things that makes me feel some hope for humanity. Also Destin from smarter everyday
The word you're looking for is childlike
Should use a led bulb that doesnt get to hot, the heat from normal bulbs will hurt the plants and or cause a fire to dried out plants that could have been forgotten
*Damn 350+ up votes, never had so many in my life lol thanks*
absolutely a good call for anyone wanting to do something like this.
LED bulbs are "normal" now, in Germany (where this was recorded) incandescent bulbs are only allowed for special applications anymore.
Came to say this. I also think it would be cool to design bi-directional lighting, where the lower array interacts with the water to light that up. Especially if the LEDs have color options.
That's exactly what I thought also.
Looks pretty low wattage it would be fine.
"But this I would enjoy watching die." Hahahahaha you are such a crack up. Your interaction with Laura is a delight. Loved this.
Simone and Laura together have a sweet vibe, amazing you remembered the password after a month
I love the confused look on Simone's face when they both beheld their first version of the Flamp. "It's really pretty...more than I expected!"
Actually flamp solves an issue for me, which is that I do like flowers but don’t keep vases around for them because then I have to keep a single function object around and store it when not in use and it’s just too much for my tiny brain and tiny apartment. But flamp is not useless when there are no flowers because it is still a lamp. It would just need to be a good lamp when flowers are absent and not a glaring naked bulb. And flowers do deserve more than just a random water glass, and the gentle glow from within is beautiful. Bonus points if flamp has a dimmer switch or color changing LED options for maximum bouquet customization.
Simone and Laura together is just pure Maker gold.
Hi, I'm a clay people and I watch both of your channels, love them! there is no wrong way to work with clay, just working in clay gives you an appreciation of the medium . . . thanks for all the joy
Thanks for speaking out, clay person. Stay out of the rain so you don't melt.
Literally dropped everything when the SImone Giertz notification dropped - AND it's a Laura collab? Glorious day, wonderful lamp!
As a clay person you did great! Creating a watery clay mix is called a slip and that's used to attach clay to clay
All this time I thought it was so Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore could get dirty.
Wow, how did a statue type this comment?
who brought you to life
Don't you mean slib with a b?
That is what mud/dirt on the waterfloor is called here.
Be careful what type of lightbulb you use as some lightbulbs can get quite hot and as the plants dry out the lightbulb could ignite them.
Best bet would be to use LED lights as they do not give off heat.
LED light bulbs actually give off quite a bit of heat, which one will quickly learn if one ever tries to unscrew an LED bulb immediately after turning it off without letting it cool down, though aiui most of that heat comes from the supporting circuitry instead of the LEDs themselves (I think they call it a ballast by analogy with CFLs even though it's… not really a ballast). They just give off like 90% less heat than an equivalently bright incandescent, and also still a lot less than fluorescent. For a low-power bulb like this one, it's probably not a fire hazard, but I couldn't say that with 100% confidence. I'd probably compare it against the power rating allowed for christmas tree lights to determine safety if I were doing this myself.
I would not have put the white ones in either. Fluitekruid we call them in the Netherlands, the cloudy stuff, the tiny tiny crumblike white flowers. Once they dry out, or ferment, they have súch a strong cat-pee smell.
"I'll enjoy watching this die." Few statements are more quintessentially 'Simone.'
Thumbs way up and thanks for posting!
2 of my favorite people having fun? Yes please!
4:00 just feels like the soundtrack of Simone.
"huh?" - *whack* - "oh yeah" - *smash* - *giggles* - "good job!"
This will forever be one of my favorite channels. I enjoyed it even before you did a fundraiser for Puerto Rico when hurricane Maria happened. I'm from PR and it was rough. A lot of people needed a lot of help. I will never forget that so thanks again.
The friendly chemistry of Simone an Laura always makes me smile! :D
That Meow Wolf hat is making me smile so hard (so is everything else). Not enough people have gotten a chance to experience the joy of that insanely ambitious project. I’ve been to three, and each one is brilliant. It does not surprise me in the least that she is a fan, and I could absolutely see this lamp being in one of them.
Meow Wolf is definitely in my top 5 of best lifetime experiences. I enjoyed it so much I have framed art from several of its creators in my home so I can be reminded of it every day.
@@whoopsydaisy6389 right!? It’s absolutely mind boggling

Simone & Laura videos give me hope for humanity.
a new Simone+Laura collab to make my whole month ⭐
i was just binge rewatching all your videos yesterday bc i missed you
Simone seeing you so happy really helps my depression. Never stop being you.
It was a real moment of realization to see that all the flowers they picked in Cologne, Germany also grow wild in my backyard in Idaho. #columbianexchange #globalization
Do you know what flowers those are?
@@jacobetter5573 I saw what I think are the following: dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare), yarrow (Achillea millefolium), and buttercups (Ranunculus). There's also a purple one in there that I can't identify.
Always love Simone/Laura videos. The energy between you two is so good
Can I just express my absolute joy in seeing the Rode mic/Hat fixture being adopted and held onto tenaciously since the big live stream you did back (in L.A.?) Anways Rode Wireless Go 2 on the hat band, every chance you get! 👍
Simone and Laura is my favourite super hero team. You guys are such a wholesome delight, please more of this! (I haven't even watched the video yet, but I know what to expect!)
The 2 little tiny glowing blue lights from the microphone transmitter on Simone's collar just absolutely made the dark scene epic. ;)
This is great because it’s a manageable DIY, or you can get the Giertz Store one when it comes out!
Hey, for cutting glass bottles you can cut two short planks and screw them together to make a v-shaped channel. Clamp your glass-cutter to the end of the channel, place the bottle in, and rotate it for a perfect circular score. You often don't need to even tap or heat-shock the bottle - after a few full turns the end just pops off.
Think I'm going to stick a desk lamp in the pot of my indoor Monstera while I wait for my Flamp. Should project Swiss cheese shadows all over the room. Flamp is a legitimately great idea for fresh flowers, so easy to pick wildflowers or foliage (where allowed) when out for a walk and replace each stem as they get old. Perpetual bunch of flowers! I hope there will be a 220-240V version. You two are awesome together.
Love the videos and your sense of humour.
It is actually quite dangerous. The metal shroud of the lamp is free, which could be connected to the phase conductor on an unpolar system. So if you touch it you will get an electric shock. Depending on the power of the lamp. it is also a fire hazard.
Yeah, it does need an iteration, I imagine the Flamp in the store will probably have a led light. But as a concept, I think this is really nice!
Yeah. Sometimes the problem with making things that rarely or never been made before, is that there could be untested problems with it
@@arjenlaan4103 Simon already answered another post, that V2 has 5V LED
I personalky would never put electricity above "vaporing" water, like that. Youknow?
@@Widdekuu91 no, I see not problem with vaporing water.
This is excellent. I've made a bunch of paper flowers in the past, and this seems like it'd be a fun way to display them.
That sounds like an amazing idea! especially tissue or thin paper flowers, the light would shine through, might look like they're glowing! gosh, now I want to try it. any tips or ideas for making sure the light doesn't overheat and catch fire to the paper? unless it's the kind that's not constantly on, I've never put flammables next to lightbulbs 😅
@@minnow468 I'm thinking if you do an LED bulb, they mostly only put out significant heat around their heatsink at the base of the bulb, so you could make that be on the opposite side of the plate from the flowers with just the cooler bulb sticking through. That way the hot part is only ever near the wire stems, which aren't flammable (and probably can't transmit enough heat to the paper to be dangerous.
@@russellaltizer6944 tysm; I'll try it!
Simone with Laura is 2x the laughs! That was a fun project. I love the Flamp.
those two are such a wonderful chaotic duo.
Great work on the Flamp, looking forward to the final product!
I’m realizing I have a box of mini LED strings with teeny battery packs and I could totally weave them into my houseplants to make them look happier in the evening. Yay!
On a timer. 😉
"This I would enjoy watching die" needs to be the tag line for Flamp once it goes live on the store.
Just love these kids. They're wonderful, creative, smart, beautiful people. The world needs more of that.
I love the drill on the wet clay. haha I'd buy a flamp, but i'd like a LED bulb to avoid fires lol
or even buy a kit to make our own........
So cute 🥺 it could totally be a real product
Simone and Laura is always a good time, and I do believe I heard Felix cracking up there too haha.
I love this because it's not your job to know how to work with clay in the best way possible. This inspires people to try stuff even if it's not going to be perfect. It's experimental, it's fun, there are no pressures of quality control or any need for it to really be successful. Go out there, people. Buy materials, use your creativity and enjoy the process, even if it fails. It's supposed to be fun!
These two absolutely warm my heart.
Beautiful work on your FLAMP. 👍👍
I loved this simple yet classic design ❤
"...But this I would enjoy watching die." Made my day! Please never change!
Yay! Another Simone video! Also, a nice quote: "This I would enjoy watching die."
This is so lovely!
Now I wanna build a flamp too! But more like a flowerpot with a living plant, for my bedside or coffee table or something :3
Ooooh, like an aquaponics/hydroponics lamp? (I don't remember the difference)
@@dolphin64575 (Had to look up what that is :D) hmm those seem to be special lights to help flowers grow?
Not quite what I had in mind - i mean something purely decorative, like Simones, just with a potted houseplant instead of a water container with cut flowers :)
(But now I'm thinking, I COULD use such an aqua/hydroponics lamp, I mean why not..?)
Will the light help the plants live or the heat kill it faster? Good luck flamp!
Aww, Flamp is really cute!! With plastic flowers you (or I) would not need to worry about flowers to die.
"But this I would enjoy watching die." Simone and Laura are the best! Great video my friends!

Yeah, this is gorgeous. Off to my 3D printer. Looking forward to your design to purchase, too.
Flowers are great because they are something nice to have in the house that won't interfere with someone's diet, and won't clutter up the place.
You could look at it as something to watch slowly die, but you could explain owning a dog the same way. Instead it's something to enjoy in the brief season you've got it to enjoy.
"How would I know what you're thinking?" while also being totally cool with the answer is a great way to sum up the dynamic between these two. 🤣
Beautiful! I must submit for your consideration, the Flot. A version with potting soil. Wait, that's just a flower pot. But with a lamp and a more creative name. Living Flamp? As always, love the video :)
I was expecting an inner lamp body that curls up from the base to hold potting soil. Like a terra cotta pot with an oversized bowl as the drainage catcher, but not.

Hi! 😃🤚🇸🇪
Flamp has a real fairy-tale vibe. I feel like glass robot arm and flamp would get along well.
7:30 i love the apparent confusion and disgust in your faces while saying „aww, it looks so pretty“ 😂😂
I love how confused/concerned they both look when it turns out to be really pretty.
Really like how Laura and Simone work together in this one. You could tell in the first 60 seconds they are best friends and just work well together. Great work!!
Specially adapted for children... You both nod. I love it!
The moment you turend on flamp for the first time was just adorable.😍
The flamp is beautiful...Thank you Ladies
This is so cute!
❤ it when Simone posts a new video she rocks!
i would love a flamp that was like, an actually flower pot. So you could grow stuff in it and it was a lamp (with a LED bulb or something to help stop it burning/killing the plant)...Or even one of those lights that are meant to mimic sunlight for indoor plants!
I just realized Laura is wearing a Meow Wolf hat!! I FREAKING LOVE MEOW WOLF! I go there every year!
Laura: "How would I know what you're thinking?"
Subtext: "I'm not that crazy."
But, really lovely and creative. I like it.
I LOVE THIS! I have owned my house since 2006, and it is on a lot a bit wider, but 4x as deep as the house. Every year since I arrived, I dig sod & replace w/ MI wildflowers and perennials. All but a small section has been converted from lawn to garden. Looking out most windows gives one a gorgeous view of MI meadow, alive with birds, butterflies, and fireflies at night! This is the perfect FLAMP for my place! BIG LOVE to you both!
I love it when you guys get together, you always make something great, and I can tell you have fun while doing it!

Cool. I love looking at the sunlight through the leaves of trees. This brings the effect inside. Genius!
OMG, I'm so excited to see there may be a variation of the flamp available in the Yetch store! I was going to suggest it before I got to the end of the video!!!
I think I've got at least one of every item from the Yetch Store ... except maybe for the socks.
Fevs are back with another collab! Love these so much.
I never liked getting flowers either, until I inherited a bunch of flowering plants when I moved, and discovered they will flower longer into the season if you cut the flowers off...then bring them in the house to enjoy (as they die), while new ones grow outside. It makes the plants healthier (or live longer), by cutting off the flower, and they are going to die anyway. Gave more appreciation.
