To be accurate, Z trains are trains using Type 25T Passenger Cars(160km/h), for Z trains are not fully non-stop at night, like Z236/7-Z235/8 stops at 3 o'clock at Hunan. Some Z trains stop at night in order to switch locomotives, and some Z trains are simple upgrade of T trains that stop at night. Similarly, T trains use 25K cars(140km/h) and K trains use 25G cars(120km/h).

But there are still some trains using 25B or even 22B cars. Some K trains use 25B cars(120km/h) as well, but these cars are upgraded to fit AC devices inside.

Things tend to change. They are upgrading all T trains to Z trains which means Z trains do have a number of stops sometime. Also, most number-only trains nowadays use the same rolling-stock as K trains, which means they do get A/C and modern facilities.
