  • While China's modern stations are all very similar and have a fair amount of English signage, the older stations were built over he years and all look different. In big cities these are very busy stations. They can also be somewhat confusing and intimidating.
This video will help you understand how they are organized so that you can figure it out. We also have many videos on various stations with some tips and shortcuts about these stations. Have a look at our channel.

Love your work, the Chinese railway should thank you for good work. I used them both new and old and it is not that bad when getting familiar with the crowded stations. It is amazing how they can manage 1.34 billion people, not perfect but very good job.

Ha ha, u can't even get into the train station without a ticket n security check.... probs that to control crowds somewhat... and also departure on 1 floor and arrival on the bottom (with ticket check even before you leave)...

The old train is slow, but it is still air-conditioned. barely acceptable. The price is cheaper.

the "older" train stations look pretty well maintained and clean, better than most contries in the world. Many European tran stations are just dump.

Still worth for people with their budget. I deserve to respect them as long as they are peaceful.

Try soft sleeper on those old trains, the cost is the same as a 2nd class HSR seat. If you're lucky you get the whole berth for yourself for hours.
I love travel slow, it feels romantic and nostalgic.

ohhhhhh this brings me back to 1980's when I traveled to my dad's hometown with my parents. the old green skin trains...... so slow, yet it used to be the only way to travel in China.

If you got the sleeper they’ll get the ticket and return it before getting off the train.
