Mitch Henderson was my great great grandfather. I am the great granddaughter of his daughter Elizabeth Lenore Henderson Randant. I was looking up the newspaper article to show my son and found your CZcams video. Thank you so much for making this!
I can't believe 3 people died and they are buried in 3 different abandoned cemeteries. That's just sad. So much lost to time. I appreciate Heather and you bringing these stories to us ! Thank you !
What a sad story, and would have been lost, if not for The Hillbilly Files! Please do more in Logan! These old stories are so important, the past needs to be remembered. Thank you Leo for climbing those hills for us, you are a real trooper! Well done!
Leo you are a trooper in finding these old cemeteries. Love these stories & finding their final resting place. And sometimes they are unmarked. Thank you Leo & Heather
And thats why we love you and Heather, Thank you for all you do getting out and showing us our beautiful West Virginia and mentioning the deceased, breaks my heart that cemetrys are not kept up anymore....but for an instant their names were mentioned by you Leo, that's all you can do 😔
For myself, it is very sad, to see a cemetery to become overgrown and abandoned. From what you have said in the past, there seems to be a lot of cemeteries in that region that fit that description. You probably were close to their graves. Mitch would probably had been better off just taking a bar of soap 🧼 and washing 🙄 his son's mouth out with it. Thank you very much Leo and Heather, for telling this story. Take care.
So disgraceful to see that no one is maintaining that cemetery. After all, it’s barely a 100 years. My grandmother lived to be 98 years old. In one lifetime, they are gone from memory.
Glad you go out and climb those mountains because visual aids are the real deal making your stories come home for us viewers!! Thankyou!! BTW Leo here in northern Wisconsin we have a town with 5 houses i think right in town plus a working post office but the state want to.close it down so not sure for how long !
Another grand video...them ole lost graveyards are so pretty.. reason why I think so cause of the history of so many folks from yrs and yrs ago.. and Leo sure does have a deep heart bout him. You express urself from ur soul when talking bout life. That's a great quality to have.. thank y'all for sharing.. and a sad story
Great job you guys! No doubt his father went to his grave driven by grief. Spur of the moment incident or accident the tragedy led him to his grave. So sad!
Isn't this the church where Mrs. Thurmond's funeral was held??? It just looks familiar from a former video that focused on her. You are right about Logan County being violent in the past due to coal and yes, the railroad. I wonder why Logan County or individual cities in the area do not take care of their cemeteries. I remember when you and Heather went to find Mrs. Thurmond's grave. My goodness! That was a real adventure for both of you that day. This video was awesome. Imagine being killed for cussing. Thank you for another piece of forgotten WV history. Loved the photographs and music.
Love this video! Y'all's work is very much appreciated, especially in presenting the dearly departed's history (where possible). I BELIEVE that Mitch's D.Cert. says HENLAWSON, not Henderson. I believe there is a cemetery AT Henlawson, and if that's what it says, you might find him there. Keep up the good work. Thanks, guys!
What a tragedy. Leo you are a great story teller. I could listen to you forever. Heather you are a great researcher & editor. I could never find half of what you find. I don't understand all these unmarked graves. I know enslaved people were buried in unmarked graves. After the civil war the south was devastated for a generation. But by the early to mid 1920's the south had recovered & the great depression hadn't occured. So why unmarked graves? You both always provide excellent videos that i find fascinating & enjoyable. Thanks for the hard work
Love seeing these hidden cemeteries come to light. I see there's a yellow cratebby that tree. Maybe someone goes and visits. That's a nice thought. Thank y'all for sharing!
Thank you to you & Heather for this video, it truly is a sad story to lose a child in any circumstances. I lost my son Peter nearly 7 years ago this September age 38, also Leo i was watching one of your other videos where you mentioned when your birthday is. You & I share the same birthday on the 28th February but we were born in different years, keep up the hard work you both put in to your videos 😄
I really appreciate you all. I was born in Logan well up Whitman. I can remember as a little girl the town would be full of and I love going to town in Logan it Christmas. It's a shame that the cemeteries are like they are it's disgraceful Foley cemeteries worse than that but I love when you go around my town so I can see it again I'm getting up there in years I don't know if I'll be able to go home again anytime soon or before I die but I still call Logan home. I live in Georgia now and sometimes I really get homesick for the mountains
Hey Leo and Heather, I’m pretty sure we drove that road when we were in the Logan area. It just breaks my heart that these cemetery’s are abandoned. Thanks for the video guys.
Leo another good trick is to look for fixed bench marks on a map, coordinate that with your post office location and known Street locations, then you can trangle lat the area of what you are looking for is in,
The name of cemetary looks like Henlawson, which is outskirts of Logan. Born in Logan, graduated from Williamson in 80. Just don't do a story on my family and murders!! We're even in the books thru history, unfortunately.
I'd love to see you tell the story of the murder of my Great Grandfather Hansford in Gorman, Grant County, WVA. I've heard that the county lines have been constantly reorganized and the death certificate is hard to find.
All I can think when you are walking in these area is TICKS! I remember when my hubby took me to his grandparent’s graves on top of a mountain in Valley Head, WV, we were going up a very narrow dirt road with lots of switchbacks. I kept telling him there was no way there was a graveyard. We popped out at the top of the mountain and there was this tiny graveyard.
Found this video very weird but have t heard worse. Question for you two though; back in the day, especially during the depression, did folks need to use a funeral home to bury their deceased or could they handle the burial themselves after informing the proper authorities of the passing? Just wondering. Thanks and enjoy your channel immensely!!😀👍
Maybe you can get with lawn care juganat and Al Blaze lawn care even BB lawncare and CJ lawn care they are on CZcams also they do free mowing for CZcams content they may get together and clean some of these grve yards up for their channel they are good people .
And if the first shot hit the wall and he noticed maybe he outta not have the gun in hand. Hmm who was drinking really? All around sad knowing other kids lived without family. I wonder what happen to them and their grandkids?? Job for you girl lol we know you can do it
I wish there is a grandchild of someone that has been told the story. Their grandma or pa or g mama or pa was there. And maybe they was there can tell ya. Ohhhh You know what I am going to say. Lol Spirit Talker up there.
🙋🏼♀️Great great grand daughter of Mitch Henderson here. What he has said has been what was told to me as well. He never got over shooting his son. My grandmother has dementia so unfortunately I can’t ask her more questions.
That's why I want to be cremated. Spread my ashes in the smokies for dad's side. Moms family cemetery in WV and somewhere here in Rockbridge Co va where I've lived longer than anywhere ❤👩🌾🫶and I really like these stories.

These “forgotten” stories are my favorites on this channel! I love all the content, but these stories are the best!
Glad you like them! more to come!
I can't believe 3 people died and they are buried in 3 different abandoned cemeteries. That's just sad. So much lost to time. I appreciate Heather and you bringing these stories to us ! Thank you !
Nighbert Memorial Methodist Church was where my mother went to church after daddy died in 1999. Beautiful church.

Thank you Leo for sharing this story and showing so much respect ❤
The history of other areas is so interesting Thank you for sharing and showing us.
Our pleasure!
Thank you for taking us along on your videos. Truly appreciate.
I wasn't good at history in school. The older I get I love history. Thanks Leo and Heather this is a great video 😊
Our pleasure! Same here, we have developed a love for it too
Another heartbreaking but interesting story - wish these folks could be found 💕thanks for all ur hard work , Leo and Heather
Thank you!
That's a very sad story. I don't think I could have lived with that. Thanks Leo and Heather!

Interesting story even if very sad. Thanks for telling about it. I love hearing about different history and people.
Thanks for watching
A split second decision ruined so many lives. Thanks for your video.
What’s especially sad is that Kearney had so many friends, but he chose to deal with his issues by getting drunk. What a horribly sad story.
You are quite the boyscout to find this one!! Thanks for sharing 🥰
Hey y"all ❤. Code 84 is " an act of unsound mind" . James committed suicide. What a tragic story, they are in the arms of our Lord now.
oh wow thanks
I wondered about that. Tragic.
So disgraceful to see that no one is maintaining that cemetery. After all, it’s barely a 100 years. My grandmother lived to be 98 years old. In one lifetime, they are gone from memory.
Prayers for the family for answers and justice. Stay safe and thank you for the video.
Thanks very much for traveling out to these places - brings the story alive!
You bet! thanks for supporting us!
Leo and your wife y"all do these great stories and bring them to life thank you
Glad you like them!

@@thehillbillyfiles You are welcome Leo. Wish we knew more about the three people who died!

Thanks so much
The use of liquor didn't help and pushing his mother. Thank you Leo & Heather
You are so welcome
Hi Leo. Checking in here from Indiana. Enjoy the work.
Hello there!
The clean up & restoration of some of these cemeteries would be a good boy scout eagle project or girl scout silver award project.
Leo was a tracker in a past life !! Great video.
Yes! Thank you! Haha
Thanks
Beautiful church. Sad story RIP

Thank you so much!
Thank you for this educational video. Rip Amen 🙏.
Leo, you and Heather have some good history to tell . I’d love to visit West Virginia and surrounding area some time.
You should!
Leo another good trick is to look for fixed bench marks on a map, coordinate that with your post office location and known Street locations, then you can trangle lat the area of what you are looking for is in,
Thanks!
Thanks so very much!
I think its horrible they don't maintain graveyards. It's horribly disrespectful.
❤ ur viedos of Virginia 😊
Great Job
West Virginia is such a beautiful state!!!
Going to these places give it more meaning, reality.

Oh ticks can be a issue, but luckily not always
Wonder what happened to Kernie's wife and child???
With no photographs of what a person looked like their appearance is lost forever ♾️.
I know, I hate that
That should be Henlawson cementary I think
Would interested to see his wife an daughters graves an what happened to them as well as his mom
His mom's grave is in a worse cemetery, we have gone through it all last winter
Glad I didn’t live back then, being the son of a Sailor my cussing comes naturally, although I’m worse than Dad ever was!
Nice car! Greetings from STATEN ISLAND NY! An afternoon with you would be quite interesting!
Born in Chapmanville
That was a crime of passion.
Come back in the fall and see what you can find
that curvy hill you were on is Trace Mt lol
How does a person die of insanity?
Nice Mustang.

So sorry to hear that. Sorry my delay just saw this. My notifications suck here. Prayers up for your Grandma.
Mitch lied.
