A little info on Marion county where they moved to WV from, it is West Al. right on the state line. Its right next to the Talladega Natl. Forrest, so it must have been a very beautiful area. Plus I'm guessing they moved to WV to be coal miners as I couldn't find any mines near where they were in Al. Most of the coal mines here in Al. were strip mines, thus didn't need as many employees. Most of this is just my guesses so take it with a pinch of salt. Love y'alls channel.

Wonder what happened to the boy?

I grew up playing in cemeteries. I know that may sound awful but we grew up with our cousins as close as siblings and decoration day in the south was a big thing for us. The church didn't have no play ground, so we visited unknown graves, picked wildflowers for those that didn't get any decoration , cleaned headstones and made up stories about those we didn't know. I wouldn't take nothing for those days. Appalachian Alabamian.

My parents was born and raised in Mingo County I live there from the mid-70s to the late 80s

Forgot to mention before, at 40:36 in the video, you're looking right at the building that housed the club that Mamie Thurman was supposed to have frequented in the late hours. It was above the old G.C. Murphy's location, which was in the three buildings on the end of the street. I think the club was on one of the upper floors of the center building.

Thanks for a great follow up to your other video. This is another story that always fascinated me. From what I have read over the years and what I remember some old-timers telling me years ago, there were likely multiple people involved. One old guy even told me he thought most of the Logan police force at the time was involved in the cover up and making Clarence Stephenson the patsy. I'm not necessarily saying this was accurate, but there were a lot of corrupt law enforcement officials in the coalfields in those days. Stephenson might have been an accessory, but I highly doubt he carried out the whole crime. I can't believe how overgrown they've let the Logan Memorial Park get. The last time I saw it was probably close to 30 years ago and it wasn't anywhere near that bad. There used to be a big stone arch at the entry of the cemetery years ago. The interesting thing about the Steele Mausoleum is that it never had anybody entombed in it. Noah and Maude Steele ended up being buried elsewhere. I'd wager that truck sitting there without plates may be stolen. On the subject of law enforcement of the past in the coalfields, if you all can find the information, another interesting story may be the two officers of the Williamson Police Dept. who were killed in August 1927 by new officers brought in to replace them. I remember my grandfather and several others of his generation talking about this. It now seems to be forgotten since it has likely passed from living memory.
