Thanks for posting. I have to disagree on the bad engineering part though.I've had one installed (same unit) on two different Tacoma's for 19 yrs. no problems.I would agree it's all about how much the installer cares about his work.

No more for this guy either. Bought a pre owned Pontiac Something that had an aftermarket, Avital, I believe was the name, remote start system. One night she decided to crank, and crank and crank and crank and keep on cranking, even after the car was running. Ruined my starter, melted the cables and the battery exploded under the hood, which I assume is what burned up my alternator.
I would only consider a factory remote start system now, I had a Chevrolet Equinox with the factory remote start via the key and the OnStar phone app. That factory system worked perfectly until I traded her in with 87k on it.

Thank you so much for the video. I bought a Buick regal and it had that installed. Well after a few years I couldn’t even start my car with the key anymore. It triggered the theft deterrence system. I had to go to the dealer and have it removed. Hopefully that fixes the problem 😩

2017 Toyota tundra crewmax 52k miles. I just uninstalled my start x remote start, a plug and play system. My abs light, no traction control and bsm sensor "see dealer" code. All started the day after install by a mechanic. Now these pop up after 10 minutes of driving each time. I cant find anything on forums. Do you have any input? Anything I can try? I've looked at all the connectors and unplugged the battery for an hour, didn't help anything. Any help would be great. Thank you> and I love your videos.

A few years back I owned a 2011 Jeep Wrangler with the V6 and 6-speed manual. Unknown to me when I bought it, it had an aftermarket remote start system. To this day I'm not entirely sure how it would've worked considering it was a stick shift and due to Daimler Chrysler's terrible engineering it had to be parked in gear because the parking break on that generation of Wranglers don't work. But anyways-one day a month after buying it while I was driving, all of a sudden my gauges just started turning on and off, the radio stopped working, and eventually I lost power and had to have it towed to the dealer where I bought it. The dealer took a look at it, and it turns out it had an aftermarket remote start on it. Whoever had installed it, did an incredibly bad job and it basically shorted out the computer of the vehicle. Thankfully the dealer repaired and replaced everything for free for me, but it's quite the lesson of why those aftermarket systems are so bad. Thanks for the video"s!

@@repairvehicle yeah I figured as much. I understand completely that is the main reason I have no respect for most professional services which require licenses to do the work legit. even the dang dealership techs are lazy. I brought my chrysler 200 in that hasnt run for a few years now and the dude tells me that they cant diagnose the problem cause there is no compression so I needed to replace the VVT which would be 2100 total just for and then they could diagnose. I said well if you cant diagnose it how the hell did you come up with the VVT needing to be replaced? Couldn't really give a good answer so I towed it back home replaced the part that cost 900 and wasn't too bad to replace but still not starting.

@@repairvehicle I don't know anymore, it has just been sitting since I changed the VVT. It cranks but just wont turnover and start. I had changed out the thermostat I believe it was 3 years ago now. I changed whatever was causing my vehicle inspection to fail got it changed then it started for a minute then died and never started again. It had a bunch of codes when I checked but I was thinking it was ECM but apparently they checked it and updated the computer when they "diagnosed" the undiagnosed VVT.
