    For some reason, I'm just absolutely terrible with this plane. No matter what I try I can't get anything right with the armament's position, and never get any good with the plane. Hopefully this video will help me and as always, thank you for making a video on this plane specifically.

    Great vid mate, one of my favorite mid tier planes in the game. A true joy to fly, and very versitile, as you can shift between boom and zoom, energy fighting and dogfighting at will. my best game without dying, was done in this spit, and i couldnt recommend it enough :)

      +Jengar this plane is such a clubber. It is sort of like a first-gen P-51 that can turn : P In RB, it's a different story. it is a very good plane but I find I lack the discipline/experience to NOT break the wings off pulling up from a dive.

    Ok I'll admit, even with my average 12 kills per match in a spit, I still found this useful for the bomber part. I usually stayed away from bombers as if they had the black plague. (Mostly because of low CNN ammo, you can squeeze 4-5 kills if attacking fighters but only 1-2 when attacking bombers) To be fair it was designed as a fighter plane, not a bomber interceptor.

    Hey Long5shot, after finding your vids tonight I just want to comment to thank you for putting these up. it seems you provide well informed and produced videos in an easy to watch format.Thanks for doing one on the mkIIb spit, I played with it and the other 3.7s for a while before 1.53 and you highlighted my own musings on the changes. Spitfire Mk.IIb
    Spitfire Mk.Vb/Trop
    Typhoon Mk.Ib
    Mustang Mk.1A
    Boomerang Mk.II...
    My 3.7 Brit line up that i simply adore and consider both my favorite BR and my favorite line up for the BR, It can do a bit of everything and the cannons are super, super fucking amazing, sure the Mk.IIb only has Mk.I cannons rather than Mk.II so you have to deal with Stealth rather than Air belts, but that's not too big of a difference for me and both work as well as each other.
    You use 300m convergence, is this just a standard across all your planes as you always seem to be using it, yet I seem to have better luck with the 'default' 400m on all nations except German (lower muzzle velocity), personal preference and ping I guess?
    Had an epic match with 1 of your subscribers a few days ago while flying such a line up, full credit to him being a PS4 player and fighting so well, I hope he learns a bit from this video because he's an excellent pilot (way better than I was @ level 38? or 34.. something like that) but he took a Spitfire against my A6M2 and let me spiral climb to his alt, without B&Zing me.. poor play on his part but we both congratulated each other after the battle for the interesting dogfights we had.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety

      +RexalLB 300m, sometimes 400m, does seem to be my default with wing-mounted weapons. I guess its just the kind of range at which I'm most comfortable engaging. Also if I get in closer than that, a longer convergence would make it very difficult to land any hits at all.

    • @Rexal_The_Saltiest_Brit
      @Rexal_The_Saltiest_Brit Před 8 lety +1

      I prefer to lead my target and let them fly into my bullet stream, which means a longer convergence... It just doesn't work on German guns because their best ammo is full of tracers... the Americans too, especially if you use the Tracer ammo (API-T

    • @captainnyet9855
      @captainnyet9855 Před 8 lety

      +long5hot I always lean towards the longer convergence ranges, 600 is usually my minimum, I even go as far as putting 700 on my FW 190 with the 4x20mm gun pods.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety

      +harald s Yes in any interceptor that's strong in head-ons, and FW190 Antons certainly fall into that category, you'll want a longer convergence. Same goes for the P-47s.

    • @captainnyet9855
      @captainnyet9855 Před 8 lety

      +long5hot it's not even that, I am still getting used to the mg151's and as such I avoid head-ons at all cost right now, but I very often like to engage bombers at max range with them, coming in from far below.

    how do you press all these button for manouvers and look at the enemy plane as well.do you use enemy tracking camera when shooting at them

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety +2

      +russell lowe I occasionally use the tracking camera, but not as much as some other players as I find the "snap-back" disorienting. Looking around while maneuvering is easy - provided you have a rudder or elevator key pressed, mouse aim is inactive & the plane will ignore your mouse movements. This means you can move the mouse around as if you're in free-look mode. It also means there's no snap-back when you release the tail-control key(s) as Mouse Aim kicks in and flies the plane towards where-ever you've got the cursor.
      I also have my keyboard mappings setup to make it as easy as possible to hit the various keys & combinations - Q/E for rudder, W/S for elevators, A/D for roll.
      I suggest going into free flight & practicing keyboard maneuvers while looking around, you'll soon get the hang of it :)

    @GeorgePrince Před 8 lety

    The issue is I do not know when you are online and do not know how to look you up..
    Today I realized I simply cannot hit a single plan, I can unload a whole ammo on at a plan leading him ahead of the indicator slow or fast and simply cannot garner a single hit. I move around to find that hit spot and still cannot hit a plan, while you can dispatch a plan in a second or two burst..I simply have tried everything..messed with convergence..like you other video demonstrated..messed with load out but simply cannot hit any plans even if there are well within 1000 meters. I have a very fast internet connection as well, there is no lag as well, the results are the same, bottom of every list with max out my plans in death with nothing to show for it..help me please?

      +SpearHead1011 Depends what I'm flying, how far away they are, and how fast I am. If I believe I can outclimb them, that's what I try to do. If I'm faster than them, I fly away & lead them on a merry chase. If I can't do either of those things, I dive and take my fight to low altitude while keeping an eye open for any chance of climbing again.

    This is bad news for me. Every time I meet a Spit at altitude, it beats me. It seems like no matter what I do, they always kill me. They always out climb me, they win in head-ons, they manage to catch me in dives, they out rudder-turn me, even when I'm flying bf 109s, they out turn me when I'm flying a zero. They altitude performance decrease. They're too OP.

      +Alex Moss In order to kill them at alt you'll either have to draw them down or out climb them. I've been going 5+ and 0 regularly in the Vb/Trop

  • @ciphowler8370
    @ciphowler8370 Před 6 lety

    Would most of, if not everything you said still apply to the Mk.IIb as of Update 1.73? Cause whenever I take this aircraft out, I find myself being on the receiving end of enemy fire. Head-on attacks I know must be avoided at all times, but no matter my altitude I always get shot down, then I'd have to resort to the previous Spitfires and Hurricanes which I have a lot better luck in. And its incredibly frustrating given I'm still trying to upgrade this particular Spit and the Vb.

  • @zxbc1
    @zxbc1 Před 8 lety

    The Mk Vb is now a better plane. It used to be less maneuverable and has similar top speed and climb rate, now it's better than the IIb in every way.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety

      +zxbc Well, it should be, being a later model & a tier higher. However in flying them together I haven't noticed much difference, but that's just gut feel & I haven't run any tests to compare them.

    • @zxbc1
      @zxbc1 Před 8 lety

      long5hot
      They are very similar now. Back then the Vb had very bad turn rate and climbed worse. Now after the changes they're much closer, but the Vb is a notch above now. It actually climbs to 5k about as fast as a 109 F4, which is insane, considering that it can beat an F4 at the same altitude. Plus it has better ammo (air target) than the IIb, even if it's just a slight upgrade.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety

      +Leaver pool I had the Vb in the lineup, which made it a T3 3.7 lineup rather than the 3.3 T2 it would have been if I hadn't included the Vb. So its very slightly uptiered, not a whole lot though. The Spit 2B tends to suffer if its pushed too high, as it loses its climbing advantage, its lack of speed becomes really obvious, and its reduced to a "matador" role like a Zero - except it can't perform that role nearly as well as a Zero.

    • @leaverpool8059

      long5hot ok that's why i noticed p63 ;)

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety

      +Leaver pool P-63 is only Tier 3. BR 4.0, so you can see them anytime even if you're flying the Spit 2b in a T2 3.3 lineup. You can also see the Ki-43-III as well without having to uptier the Spit.
      What you won't see unless you uptier are any T4 planes such as P-51Ds, P-47Ms, Ki-84s, A6M5s (I shot one down in the BnZ examples), Spit XVIs & several Griffon Spits, La-7s, FW190 D-9s (be afraid, very afraid), Yak-9Ps, F8F-1s ... all of these become planes you'll potentially see as soon as you add the Vb to your lineup.

  • @GumMagnum

    3:25 I think the altitude may have something to do with that. Being at low altitude seems to make the plane a lot more maneuverable

    • @TheStig47
      @TheStig47 Před 8 lety

      +long5hot Agreed. Many B-25 and PBJ pilots are very aggressive in these bombers, actually initiating head-ons and turn fights, and pursuits, even. They don't usually last long in any turn fight but they are pretty good at sniping an unaware pilot, which I'm ashamed to say has been me on too many occasions... lol

    • @frankneugebauer6455
      @frankneugebauer6455 Před 8 lety

      Not really. If a Spitfire is too low and too slow a He-112 suddenly can outclass it in turnfighting. I recommend to watch Grmlz older AB/RB videos about it.

    • @GumMagnum
      @GumMagnum Před 8 lety

      Frank Peter Neugebauer >older AB/RB videos
      The Spitfire used to be one of the best turnfighters in the game after the Zero. I doubt this video would represent any valid tactics in War Thunder today.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 8 lety

      +Muddy Fudger True, his AB vids must date from early 2013.
      What you said about altitude is correct - at 1000m the Spit IIb can overlap its smoke trail in an elevator turn, which it can't at 3500m. It'd still be out-turned by a He112 though, provided it was a V-5 or A-0. The B series have improved turning in this patch, but not enough to tangle with a Spit.

      Try to keep your movement smooth & subtle - hard turns cost a lot of speed. Also unless you know your opponents are low on energy, continue your dive after the attack and only gradually transition to a climb once out of range. The most common mistake people make is pulling up quickly into a climb while still in guns range of the enemy.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety

      In RB planes have larger blind spots, which means you might not see a plane (either on the overhead or marked with red text) if they're below & behind you or dropping from above. You therefore have to really keep your eyes peeled, as you need to spot moving dots which is rarely needed in AB (only in cloud thunder battles).
      I'd suggest looking at the replay, switching to the enemy's plane and watching to see how he managed to sneak up on you.

    • @long5hot

      Engines cut out with negative Gs, otherwise they shouldn't. And only in RB/Sim as well - for some reason they decided not to include that feature in AB.

    everyone should just fly around really fast and lurk in the clouds, then the matches could last days, maybe never end.

      I am eagerly looking forward to your findings about the XP-50s optimal climb speed. Not that I ever had an issue to climb to space with this thing. But I am afraid, I could had done even better than 270 km/h.

      @long5hot  Před 8 lety

      +Frank Peter Neugebauer I can tell you that right now - keep as close to 245km/h as you can, use the Assaulter Spawn point ... and be amazed as it climbs like a space shuttle.

    hahaha, why make a spitfire video? it is so easy to use these turnfighting sealclubbers, and any person who watches your channel has probably figured out how to use it already.
    have you tried your american premium canard plane this patch?
    because my J7W1 has become a lot mor fun to fly, having lost the jerky elevators and the terrible urge to do a 180 degree roll when making minor course corrections.
    it has since become one of my favorite planes in WT, though it Does require quite a few upgrades to become competitive:
    without engine injection it can not climb enough to claim altitude and the Type 5 cannons are absolute garbage if when stock.

      +harald s The Spit 2B has been on my list for quite some time & indeed was requested not long ago.
      I flew the XP-55 not long after 1.53 was released, and found it a little improved. As you said, the jerkiness has gone - and it had a little more elevator authority too - but it still locks up big-time in a dive and would struggle to out-turn the Titanic. In RB apparently its able to dance with Spitfires and win, but that's certainly not the case in AB.

      +long5hot well, at least the J7W1 has gotten better this patch, it ised to be nearly impossible to get kills because of how terribly it followed the mouse, now I have already had a 13 kill match with it.
      those 4 Type 5 guns are really devastating with the tracer belt, I have been consistently getting kills at 750 metres, and in head-ons I very often kill my opponent at 1.3km

    i am really starting to hate this game,if its not russian its slow with rubbish guns,ammo,amour.
    tier 1 planes russian first plane is a 20mm,other nations you have to grind thru 3-4 rows of planes to get anywhere close to 20mm.its pathetic really.cant play morethan 3 games without exiting now.

      @long5hot  Před 8 lety

      +russell lowe Well, its not for me to tell you to love or hate the game, that's your call entirely. However, I disagree with the reasons you've given. Russia gets 20mm armed planes at a battle rating of 2.3. So does Germany, and its 2.3 planes are as good as the Russians in my opinion. Japan also gets them early in the form of the Ki-45s, with an agile turnfighter appearing at 2.7 with the float zero. USA doesn't need 20mm, as it has its flame-throwing .50 cals and its early fighters are quite good. Its only Britain that has to wait, and that's not the game's fault - its due to Britain's obsession with banks of light machineguns at a time when other nations had already adopted the cannon.
