On the most recent fan debate video on The Overlap CZcams channel - Liverpool legend and Manchester United legend and Sky Sports Monday Night Football pundits Jamie Carragher and Garuy Neville opened up a new debate on Spurs.
So the debate has risen again over Tottenham and whether they can close the gap on the rest of the Big 6 and compete in the Premier League with Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool under Ange Postecoglou and if Daniel Levy, Scott Munn, Johan Lange and Fabio Paratici will change.
Tottenham have not won a trophy since the 2008 Carabao Cup/ League Cup and not won an FA Cup since 1991 - Daniel Levy seems to prefer Tottenham getting top 4 and Champions League football.
Flav Bateman's friend Alex from the Fighting Cock podcast debated with Carra & G Nev on the Overlap.
This is all interesting after Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich and with Spurs still in search for Champions League football (UCL)
Do you agree with the points made by Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville?
Tottenham travel away in the Premier League to face West Ham United at the London Stadium next in the PL.
The Premier League is heating up with Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, Bournemouth, Burnley, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Luton Town, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Wolves aka Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham squad include Guglielmo Vicario, Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Emerson Royal, Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojberg, Dejan Kulusevski, Bryan Gil, Brennan Johnson, Son Heung-Min (손흥민) Richarlison, Pape Matar Sarr, Jamie Donley, Alfie Dorrington, Ashley Phillips, Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur, Sergio Reguilon, Djed Spence, Ryan Sessegnon, Micky van de Ven, Timo Werner, Radu Dragusin, James Maddison and Dane Scarlett, Manor Solomon, Alejo Veliz, Giovani Lo Celso, Ben Davies, Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin, Alfie Whiteman, Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, Tanguy Ndombele, Joe Rodon, Lucas Bergvall and Luka Vuskovic.

I don't agree with Carragher & Neville. 1. Ange has never spent big money (recently: "If I had 100 million I would buy 2, 50 mill players"). 2, Del Ali, Sonny, Harry, and many more were not big names until they made their name in football. It's not really what we do as a club. 3, Ange has always created big names in a league. Player reputations are created in an Ange system. 4, I think too many people underestimate how big Sonny really is, I think he gets a lot of ignorance (at best) and casual racism (at worst). Lastly 5, Levy and Ange have a synergistic philosophy, money well spent is better than large money spent. I expect over the next 2-3 years Johnson and Maddison, Bergval, Porro & (insert future signings here) to be the huge names of the EPL. And saleable to Spanish teams at a huge profit. I also expect that this system will win shiny metal as well!
P.S. By casual racism, I mean like and Australian player or a New Zealander would never be seen as a world beater even though these hypothetical players could be world beaters. Sonny is pure class and as important to Spurs as any Marquee player in the EPL. He has taken the Harry Kane mantel and made it his own. And he has had little or no drop in quality.
Sorry lol I will shut up now!

Ange doesn’t need to spend record amounts to win trophies. Having said that we are talking about the EPL so most players are expensive but he doesn’t need
record signing players to be successful. He likes to get younger players who aren’t set in their ways. He builds championship winning teams not teams with champions.

I've been a fan for 50 years and with the exception of a few good periods (Nicholson, Burkinshaw and Pochettino) Spurs have hovered outside the top group of Prem Teams. Money dominates at the top and Spurs are now poised to compete it just depends upon taking that step up. To be fair, Arsenal and Man Utd have been shadows of their great teams under Wenger and Sir Alex and Chelsea are way off the pace. Maybe things are opening up for an ambitious, wealthy club to join in.......why not Spurs.

It's debatable if £100m Grealish made any significant improvement to City. Is Caicedo worth £115m?, Is Enzo worth £107m with Chelsea languishing in 11th?

A leopard does not change its spots. Levy will never spend the dosh. The stadium is filled every home game, he has a profitable concert venue, he has the NFL, he has the food and beverage money without spending big. He thinks why change a winning formula. Nonsense - DL recently spent £50 million on Johnson and £40 million on Madison, however for Ange it's not about how much a player costs, it's about many other factors that Ange deems as being essential to his system. Ange converted Celtic from 25 points behind Rangers to winning by 14 points and spent - £11 million ( yes that is a minus sign), at Yokohama they became champions with the 15 th largest budget in the league and at Brisbane Roar in a salary capped completion where you cannot just go out and buy the best players he won two consecutive titles and had a 38 game un beaten streak.

I don't think it is how much money we spend but what type of signings we can make to fit the system and style of play. You could sign a 100M superstar but they may not be suited to the system or create animosity in the dressing room. Just look at PSG in the past 10 years. What we need is to give Ange full final say in which players to bring into the club. The players need to be young, hungry and strong physically and especially mentally. The last few signings we have made have been extremely good ones. Keep it going and remember Rome wasn't built in a day.

Ange was asked only recently if he would spend 100m on a player and he said no he would prefer 2 50m ones. With Ange it’s about the person as much as anything else, can you get great players without signing the big stars ? Well judging buy some of the players he has already signed I would guess yes. Have we learned nothing? Wtf is paying 100M on one player when you're signing players like Vicario and VDV who after one season are looking like 3x their worth. Absolute nonsense, signing players for exorbitant fees just for the sake of saying you're going for it.
Loser mentality to "buy success"....buy THE RIGHT PLAYERS, NOT THE PRICETAG.

Reality is we’re not far away. Reality is we’re only about £250m of new signings away. Reality is that we can recoup £80-100m from exits, which leaves nett balance of £150m spend. Reality is Levy’s in charge of purse strings. Reality is top 4 or pinching a cup along the way is satisfactory to him. Reality is that Levy has underwhelming ambition ceilings for the club. Reality is expected excitement of summer transfer deals are muted.

  • @AcidAdventurer

Tottenham have been spending the same money as your Liverpools and Arsenals. They've spent over 200m just this season. The problem in recent years hasn't been the spending, but the recruitment and the management. And Spurs have been working to fix that (and have shown good results so far). There's absolutely no reason to think that Spurs can't do what Liverpool has done. I can't believe these guys are considered top pundits when they go with narratives that have zero basis in reality. Liverpool doesn't spend more than Spurs, they just ended up with a manager that is actually a winner, unlike Poch (who should've won something when we arguably had the best starting 11 in the league on 16/17)

Levy has done a good job .. I dont agree with the season ticket prices for pensioners but apart from that FFP not an issue ..We are now Londons richest club so need to kick on with spending. It’s all about recruitment this .. We have spent more than Arsenal over the last 5 years but bought badly .. it’s not down to him .. he rubber stamps the deals. Other teams would give their right arm for where he has taken us .. onwards and upwards..COYS

@@SonnyTalksSpurs i find that interesting too!🤔 I’ve never liked Neville but he knows Daniel Levy does the minimum investment to keep Tottenham in the discussion of elite football but never goes all out or all in as silverware is not his ambition. It is not what motivates him and gets him up in the morning. Neville seems to know this while most fans do not and praise Levy for the wrong things. On the rare occasion Levy breaks the bank to get a profile player these turn out to be abject flops and he cannot seem to get rid of and replace deadwood to strengthen a thin unbalanced squad. Lets face it what other real chairman in real football goes 73 days without a manager, revolves them like a carousel (six in four years?), goes three windows (1.5 years!) without signing a player, and fires a proven winning manager days before a Cup Final? Madness. And fans believe Daniel Levy, a man who appears to hate football, possess disdain for his clubs fans, and an aversion for winning is good for this club! SMH!
