With Tottenham Hotspur still aiming to qualify for the top 4 and Champions League football in the Premier League - it is clear to say Ange Postecoglou has improved a lot around the club in his first season.
The Australian who managed Celtic, Yokohama F. Marinos, Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar has implemented his style of play on Spurs and Ange Ball is taking the PL by storm.
But a lot of people had harsh predictions for Tottenham and Big Ange at the start of the season - especially with Harry Kane leaving for Bayern Munich they did not trust that Spurs could be successful.
So today I will be exploring how fans, pundits and rivals got Spurs so wrong and changed their minds on the club, manager and players.

One of them brought up a really good point about defenders wanting to play for Ange/Spurs because he allows defenders to score. Micky did just that and he was elated. Tell me what defender doesn’t want to feel that.

    Great video!
STAGE OF SPURS’ REBUILD: absolutely correct, we are only just at the start. It is a shame that some Spurs CZcams channels are critiquing the performances as if we were many years into the development of the squad
ANGE: it is vital to listen to what he actually says. He summarises everything very very well. Again, it is a shame that CZcams commentators are not listening to what he is saying and not understanding the underlying substance behind everything that he says.
OPINIONS: hopefully, if CZcams channel commentators evolve, they will realise what they are doing. They are taking the previous two or three performances and extrapolating them to see what’s going to happen for the next year. Absolutely the wrong/lazy way of doing it. Need to have a much greater understanding of the subject you are trying to forecast the performance of - sadly, 99% of commentators do not have the understanding (if they realised this, they would not embarrass themselves by expressing their opinions without qualification publicly).
LEVY: need to put one self in his shoes. Most of us fans cannot even run a bath, let alone run a multibillion pound football club. How do we know how best to run the club, we only have, at best, a very very small peripheral understanding of what is involved? He does not give a lot of interviews, but try and listen objectively to the ones he gave late last year, in particular the one to Bloomberg TV
AMBITION: fans should take the lead from the manager and the hierarchy as to what the club’s aims are on the pitch. In my view, this fixation with inferior trophies (Carabao and FA cups) should be, for the time being, dropped and we focus on building the squad into a winning team - to win something meaningful, such as the Premier League. Ange (and the hierarchy that appointed him) has absolutely the right mentality for ultimate success - the fans should buy into this.

Ditch the fa cup and caribou Cup while talking about ambition is confusing. Tottenham fans would love to see spurs winning any trophies as Man City and Liverpool would !!

      @NA-WHL Před měsícem

Whilst I was a kid at White Hart Lane School, I remember having a discussion with one of my peers about whether to take O-levels or CSE’s (which was an inferior examination at the time).
His argument was if you failed the O-level, you got nothing; however if you don’t do well in the CSE you still get a certificate.
I did try to tell my classmate the CSE certificate was worthless (to someone aspiring for greater things in life) and you might as well go for O levels.
In the same way, Spurs fans keep going on and on about having to win an FA Cup or carabao cup, as if this was some great achievement or worthy ambition. This is my point, it is not. Fans should have greater ambition, like the manager and those who appointed him.
I did post something on this on another channel a few days ago:
There is no doubting the true measure of a successful club is winning the most difficult trophy, which has been the division one/Premier League title.
Winning this title requires consistent high quality performances throughout a long season.
Contrast this with winning one of the domestic cups, where a team could just have a very small number of good performances and a huge dollop of luck (in which teams it faced) and can still be deemed ‘successful’.
For example look at Wigan back in 2013 - they won the FA Cup and were relegated from the Premier League in the same year (and are now languishing in 13th place in the third tier, playing the likes of Port Vale in a 0-0 bore fest).
The vast majority of Spurs fans have become fans of the club, not because of Spurs’ tradition of winning Premier League titles. Fans for the last 60 years have been brought up on a diet of winning domestic cups now and again.
These fans expectations, by definition, is generally: just to win the odd cup. They will be satisfied with this. Some may deem this is an example of ‘low aspiration’ or being ‘negative’.
One might say, well winning one of the domestic cups is better than nothing - but our aspirations must be higher than ‘just above nothing’ (in football and in life). If all of human kind had this aspiration, we would still be living in caves.
However, trying to improve a club, that has not been blessed with a tradition of winning Premier League titles, into a club that will challenge for such honours is actually a very admirable thing. It shows aspiration that is far greater than just wanting to see a domestic cup win - which after all is what sport is about. Wanting to achieve something difficult that you have not been able to do in the past.
And therein lies the conflict between the aspirations of the present manager/hierarchy within the club and some of the fans (who would be happy with just a domestic cup win).

I hated Ange being an Adelaide united fan watching him take roar to 39 game winning streak then taking Melbourne Victory to their heights , our mortal enemy. Now refined his style and taking Australia to Asian cup winners. Then did same for Australia in world cup nearly beating Holland. Then he did the same in japan with Mariners. Knew when he went to Celtic he would transfirm them into his all attack play. I shouted with joy when he was mentioned as a possibilty of taking management of spurs, a team i followed since birth being luckily at 3yo seeing Jimmy Greaves play at the Lane. I was ecstatic when he was given the job and only laughed at all the short sighted uneducated punters saying wont work be lucky to survive the year. I knew what would happen. Bribg the dare ro do and transform the club and team. Do not be surprised if spurs do not challenge next year and win it 3 years. He is that committed and great a manager.

When Ange showed up Spurs fans were saying top 10 in a rebuild year would be a success if they are playing good football. Dreaming of a top 6 miracle. I knew nothing of Spurs. The fans were weird, they talked about success being euro qualification. They loved an individual player over team play. Every time a clown went on a run slowing progress showing off their stepovers the fans thought he was the greatest. Spurs forwards can't do what Ange wants but there are glimpses with BJ and TW. Watching Spurs was frustrating preseason. Players were static and didn't move into space. With some players like Skipp having the amazing ability to find space when the opposition had the ball. We didn't see Son on the wing go to the back line to cut the ball back till Spurs played Newcastle and Son got two assists & MOTM when he finally did it in that game.

To be fair I though 8th-9th ie Europa/Conference league spots pre season. The preseason did not look good, the squad was underdone I felt and a lot of upheaval with the Kane circus. Mickey came very very late into the window. Same with Brennan Johnson. I thought the 1st 10 games were going to be rough and put the team behind with a tough chase to get back up the table but the team would get better as the season went on. Though following Ange's teams historically the team still feels not quite there. I feel there's been only a handful of games with 90mins of excellence. That stretch of games between Nov to Dec 2023 really hurt. Still feel whatever happens the season has been good so far, but can be great one depending on how the run in turns out

They foolishly underestimated his profound football expertise. They couldn't resist poking fun at him and even took a jab at poor old Spurs. But now, my friend, it's time to revel in the sweet taste of victory. For Ange, with his unwavering determination and unparalleled knowledge, has proven them all wrong. And as we watch them eat their words, we can't help but chuckle at the irony of it all. 😄✨

People often talk about the signing of Maddison as if he was the only change from last season - but we’ve got a new goalkeeper new CH new centre mid new LB two new wide attacking players - if you look at the first choice starting eleven now only Romero and Son were first team regulars under Conte - Bentancur Kulo and Richie are on the periphery of the current first choice team atm and Porro and Bissouma were both second choice for Conte most weeks - whichever way you look at it that is a huge amount of change and we’ve already made our first signing for next year with probably two or three more to follow - small wonder then that all of those so called pundits got it so wrong!

Had to be one of the most frustrating things watching the predictions preseason without any outsiders (and even fans) taking note of the way that Ange plays.
It was already going to be a huge change for the way that we play, mostly positive. It assisted in getting a lot of deadwood out of our club, and brought some players who were already into our system performing at their best again. Take a look at Son for chance, last season he was close to a downfall from holding onto an injury for the most part of the year, but the system now has been based around him.
Of course when Kane left it felt as if your own child had died, but it was the needed reset. For people that don't watch our games, I'm not worried because they don't have as much of a clue of what's cooking apart from those that do. Watching where Ange has taken us from where we were, to where we are now was destined to happen. It's fantastic that finally the footballing world has come to respect what he is and what our club is. I hope as a fanbase we continue to back him.
Keep him as long as possible because he is the greatest manager this club has ever seen. Give him time. Give him the right players. Give him a backing.
This man made me love watching my club all over again.

The early takes were all obviously terrible, basically based on being uninformed. None of the Spurs podcasters I know--who all follow the team much more closely than pundits who try to cover the whole league, thought Spurs would be terrible or that they would end up lower than 8th. I always thought that Kane's departure would make less difference than people thought and expected Europa League.
