The timing of this is also very smartly placed. Russia is getting closer to the according to them, elections, and all the heavy equipment needed to counter these attacks is stuck on the front. Its the mud season after all, so good luck getting stuff out of there. Even better is the fact that the roads are mostly intact at the incursion zones, so you can have highly mobile units maximizing their effect.

True. Ukraine has no right to attack Russia just as Russia does not have a right to attack Ukraine. No Ukrainian should be there in those forces. But for Russians, it is their right, their duty and their privilege to fight against injust government. Ukraine should make it very clear that while they give the money, support and material, they respect the border as the law. That borders are beyond good and bad, but sacrosanct.

I would agree, except Putin has allowed incursions in this Oblast many times. Pro-Putin citizens no longer feel safe. Putin has only his private army and people on Moscow that have been CONDITIONED to "rally around Putin".
Most Russians have either lost a son or know a neighbor who has. Thet know it isn't De-Nazifacation. They know nothing is what it seems. Thus, we have the status quo, where neither side can prevail.
Now I'm not agreeing with my analysis, I say hammer Putin and let the chips fall. I'm merely stating why I think NATO leaders aren't in 100%.

Drones, Artillery, Anti Tank Missiles, you name it, they build it.

Artur, I first discovered you through Geography Now many years ago. I am Estonian descendant from my grandmothers side. Great grandfather outran the soviet advance and helped refugees get to what would be west Germany (imagine outrunning the red army...) He helped my great grandmother (also Estonian) in Berlin, and they eventually chose to come to Australia. As you know, Soviet occupation was far worse to the Estonians than German occupation, they never went back home after 1945. My great grandfather was separated from his first family, and we (my grandmother) didn't reach them until after the fall of Soviet Union.

As long as the attacking country are not being counter attacked, their people will not be as affected as the defending side. This leading to the Russian citizens thinking they are unaffected or even for the war. Affective counter attacks (on opposing sovereign territory) are important to the psychological effect it has on the citizens of both Russia and Ukraine.
