Artur misreads Macron completely. 1) He was using a little psychology against Putin - it worked. 2) He made the statement because he's *tired of* the lack of unity among allies on sending troops.

When your generations leave this Earth I will be very sad. I grew up with your generation or older in Ukraine
We grew up very hard working, and managed to survive on limited everything back in the day.
Although we were not broke, we were not rich, and it allowed us to appreciate life.
But, I am watching the decay of my own country, and it's beyond sad.

@@righteousone8454 My grandparents came to Canada from Ukraine in the 1930(father's parents) and 1950(mother's parents). They worked hard all their lives after the war and made decent livings. Not rich, by any means, but proud of what they earned. Growing up, I never realized how fortunate I was to be born in a country that wasn't at war. My grandmother passed a few years back, and the lady in this video has the same eyes, like identical. It breaks my heart to see what my grandparents fled from almost 100 years ago when they were young teenagers has never really ended, and these poor people are still suffering under russian barbarism

@@bored.in.california2111 Stalin was selling the food internationally... Ukraine bore the brunt of the shortages but there were deaths in other soviet republics... nowhere near as many though. Numbers are hard to come by since the soviet government didn't keep records on this for obvious reasons however it's believed around 30% to 45% of the roughly 11 million people that died were ethnic Ukrainians

On the contrary, those who talk about the Holodomor usually ignore the fact that the famine was in a huge territory outside the Ukrainian SSR, for example in the North Caucasus, central Chernozem region, Volga region, central and southern Urals, western Siberia, Kazakhstan, keeping silent about the millions of deaths in these regions. And this is done in order to change the statement that in Stalin's time, the government did not spare anyone, and replace it with the statement that the "Russians" led by Stalin, Beria, Kaganovich, etc. decided to destroy the Ukrainian like ethnic group... Although if we recall that before the famine, the Bolsheviks fully supported and developed Ukrainian culture, language, education, and science over the past decade, then this statement does not make sense. At that time, for the active manifestation of any features of Russian identity they could just as well be arrested and even killed, as happened to religious figures, intellectuals, etc., even those who were loyal to the authorities. Such ideas were supported in the Council of People's Commissars, and Lenin, Lunacharsky, Bukharin, etc., you can find direct quotes on this subject. At the XII session of RCP(b) it was explicitly stated
"As a former great-power nation, we must put ourselves in an unequal position. Only with such a policy, when we artificially put ourselves in a position lower than others, only at this price will we be able to buy the trust of formerly oppressed nations." Russian like nation were remembered only right before the war, and already during the war, or rather, allegedly building "Soviet patriotism" around them, but ironic, instead of Russian national, and if you talk more with old people, then relatively often you can still meet people among them who still think so (that they were not raised Russian, but the Soviet people).

The fact that Lenin had anti Russian nationalist imperialist flavour to his version of socialism does not change the fact that despite stalin's ethnic minority origin was the proponent of the exact opposit .
It could be argued that Stalin's views where more consequent than Lenin's and hence maybe enjoyed a longer trial test but still both where a gigantic failure...yet neither in that regard could stand comparison to Putin's "exercize" , and that irrespective of whether Russia wins in Ukraine and other country's or not.

Arthur. My mother was Polish and was a prisoner in Siberia under Starlin at 14 yrs old
She said there is unfinished business with Russia, and the way to handle a dictators is with strength , not weakness. We in the West have displayed or fears about war, nuclear weapons weapons. So Putin uses these fears against us. We have bought into his controlling speeches like a fish and a fisherman. Nice to see France and Estonia kick Putin with a counter threat. That's how you play with dictators, and Putin didn't like it.

Hi .thank you for the suggestion.
I will look at the story you suggested..
My mother only gave small amounts of information. One day, they could not fill their wagon with the correct amount of logs in winter as they all had the flu. The gate
guards could be shot letting them in. A deal was made to give them working watches.
The problem was they had already traded
thier own. Fortunately, good Russian prisoners gave their watches, which saved their lives .
Otherwise, the Poles would be locked out the following day. They would have died as temperatures dropped to - 40° cel. the rules were brutal for all.

@chaosXP3RT mostly because NATO is a defense force, not an offensive army. NATO has only once in its history intervened and that was a messy situation legally. Ukraine isn't part of NATO so they can't just up and go help, even if they want to, but this does not apply to individual nations in NATO deciding to do so outside of NATO structures and funding.

I don't think anyone who isn't at the front really has anything to say about it (cough, Artur, cough). I saw a vid recently about a soldier in one of the world wars who wore a sword into battle and fought with a crossbow. He was a fearsome soldier, always throwing himself in, he was captured and escaped, it is an epic story. People thought he was weird too, but he killed the enemy a lot and his name lives in history as one of courage. Glory to your brother and to all the heroes.

Artur, in English it's called the Kalmar Union, which was in effect from 1397 to 1523. It consisted of Denmark, Sweden Finland, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and the Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland. You use the Estonian name, which capitalized nouns with an "i" (instead of an "s" as in English), so it sounds like "calamari". Since the Nordic states relay so much on fishing, that name could almost seem appropriate.

And Canada as well. I think Arthur is thinking more of Western Europeans when he said that, to some extent; I was a bit surprised to see that home food preservation was almost an alien concept to the majority of people throughout parts of Western Europe, unlike North America, where it still flourishes, and is almost a stereotype of Americans. I’m not sure how true it is, but I’ve seen it posited that part of the reason why Britons just call everything “jam” nowadays, and no longer distinguish between the different types of fruit preserves, is because very few people were canning at home any more in the United Kindgom by the post-war period. To the average commercial consumer, they all just became “jam”, and that’s how it was marketed, firmly fixing it as the standard term.
