I don't know, for the TV-Series it fits, cause he said over and over again he didn't want the throne, that he's still "Jon Snow" not "Aegon Targaryen", and being outcast to the Wall with Bastards and broken things is perfect for Jon Snow (in my opinion of course)

+hyper His mental state is irrelevant to his judgement. It's like saying that the mad king should have been spared just because his madness and crimes were probably a bi-product of his family's incest. It doesn't matter, Olly killed a knight commander and deserved to be executed, end of.
+hyper It's not a reflection about how how I feel about the REAL LIFE justice system at all. If a criminally insane person were to commit such a crime in real life they would be evaluated and sent to the proper facilities for rehabilitation or incarceration. I Believe that this system is fair as it allows the person to be treated properly before they are deemed guilty by society and the judicial court. But this show isn't real life, is it? He broke the laws of the knight's watch and was punished by those same laws when his plan failed. By their standards he deserved to die.
Don't even imply that you have the slightest idea about a person's opinions on real life issues when you're discussing a fucking tv show. Being all high and mighty about something that is completely irrelevant to the discussion just makes you look like a patronising asshat.
But why? I felt sorry for Olly up until the moment he died. You could see the grief in his eyes even then, even Jon was remorseful about what he was about to do. Olly was just an orphan kid

Grief from Olly? Hmmm... not really. You can obviously see emotional conflict before he stabbed Jon. But in season 6 Olly was a hateful little fucker. When he stared down at Jon I honestly thought he was going to spit on him. And yes, Olly's circumstances are pitiful, but unfortunately he failed to rise above his situation. I know being a 'child' is the popular excuse for his ineptitude at looking at problems objectively, but keep in mind that Jon is 14 when the books began. He was still a child but chose his duty over fighting his brother's war. Jon made a lot of selfless, honorable decisions as a child. Olly's motives were entirely selfish (unless you can convince me otherwise). He broke the law, betrayed his leader and was executed for it. In my opinion, there's nothing more to it.
