UPDATE: My sincerest apologies to all Washingtonians/people of the Pacific Northwest for my incorrect pronunciation of "Spokane"!! 😂😅
For all the times I had read about the place, I don't think I ever heard it pronounced (or at least, didn't notice its pronunciation). I actually really try to make an effort to get all proper names of people/places correct as much as possible (when you grow up with a name as different as mine, it tends to come with the territory). Thank you to all the people who kindly informed me on this one. Proper pronunciation will be noted for the future, promise!! 😇
it's all good, nothing but love here on this end lol - it took me a year to pronounce Puyallup correctly, and I lived there
Thank you.
😆Not a huge deal- just made me chuckle 😉 Love your channel!
It's pronounced "spook-anny!"
I live in Spo - Can, the 'e' is silent. The local media is saying, according to Howard's Attorney, he was dropping off a rental car at the airport. Yeah right....
I’m from Canada, don’t travel, and even I know how to pronounce Spokane. I’ve never encountered anyone who doesn’t.
@@BavarianRage Well there has been few TV people that have come to town to broadcast Gonzaga Basketball games. And they get rubbed the wrong way when they pronounce Spokane the wrong way..
But it's the Spokan'e Tribe of Indians in the area that defend how the name is pronounced. 😉
Bear in mind that airport rental locations close much later (~midnight) than city locations (~5pm) or have weekend opening hours-I happened to return a hire car to one on Sunday afternoon. On the other hand, /my/ ex-wife is still alive...
It's pronounced "spook-anny!"
as a former Washington resident who got railed for this: "Spoh-CANN" not "Spo-CAIN"
Oh shoot, thank you!! Noted for the future!!
@@LegalBytesMedia Lotta names like that in Washington, so beware if ya do another story outta here. 'Tulalip' is 'Too-LAY-lip', for example.
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 Don't forget Puyallup is Pew- Al- Up.
I was gonna say, I was tickled by Alyte's pronunciation 😅
It's actually pronounced Spo-Compton, or Spokanistan
Grizzly True Crime has been covering the trial in full. She’s not a lawyer, but has been doing a great job going over the case from the non-legal side (Dan Howard case).
Mr. Howard made things worse for himself. Fleeing shows signs of guilt especially with work related experience.
Just an FYI, Spokane is a Salish name and is pronounced Spocan.
As an ex-cop he knows better. Yikes!
Being a cop myself, I wonder if he was one of those complaining of bail reform?
@@SEAZNDragon thank you for your service!
Wow, I never heard of a defendant trying to run away during their trial before. I wonder if it was international flight too, I assume he didn't have his passport taken away when he got bonded out.
Why was he on bail?
From what I seen in the past it's possible for a murder suspect to get a bond, albeit a really high one, if they have a clean or relative clean record. Remember the couple were fighting over a $2 million estate and I wouldn't be surprised if he used some of that for the bond.
He put up a huge property bond, which is now forfeited and was fitted with a gps tether.
The jury needs to hear this. This is evidence of guilt.
"or is a danger to the public, courts are not going to allow that defendant to stay out on any kind of bond." If only that was true for Darrell Brooks.
I can't say the courts always get it right. That one was unfortunately one that got it very, very wrong, allowing him to go out and harm a lot of innocent people.
I didn't hear of this one 😮 thanks for covering it!!
Spokane international airport is not actually international, except for cargo. So his first destination would have been domestic. He was likely heading to SeaTac and then perhaps on to Alaska. He’d flown that route many, many times. It would get him far away without need of a passport
He was most likely going to alaska...he used to work up there and knew the area well.
Can you comment on it being a “property bond”? On the Kootenai County court website they have his bond listed as property, conditions and amounts. While Spokane (WA) is less than an hour from Kootenai county (Idaho) it was clear he was not allowed to be within 2 miles of airport. No international flights out but there was Alaskan flights where he found work after having to leave his trooper job for lots of “integrity” issues. 😅 Grizzly TC has great coverage but would love to hear your legal view as well.
Are there no longer international flights from Spokane International Airport (GEG)? When I lived in North Idaho a few years back, you could get the occasional flight to Calgary or other Canadian cites.
I guess not. I just looked at their website. I wonder why they keep the name?
@@jayfrank1913Cargo still flys internationally from there, maybe that’s why
Any plausible explanation would involve him asking permission.
well... he might also go for a temprary insanity defense - "i was so distraught by the death of my spouse that i completely dissociated. at that time, i was convinced she was at [destination], and that i was going to meet her there!"
Yes it seems shady as heck, of course, but… idunno… I don’t like the idea that it’s legally automatically regarded as the person “knowing that they are guilty”.
If you know that evidence is stacked against you even though you also know you are innocent, you might well flee because you don’t have any faith in the system. Which is, to be frank, VERY FAIR.
Unlikely the evidence would be stacked against you if you were innocent.
He said he was returning a rental car and that he wasn't at the actual airport but rather the rental car agency near the airport.
Lawyers. Always throwing around those complex legal terms. “Supercooked.” 😂
I'm guessing he's now considered a flight risk???🤣
😏“Spokain, she’s alright, she’s alright, cocaine”…
oh, absolutely shady. But then, if he was innocent and felt he would be framed and thought this was his only way out...
Washington state place names are kind of out there. The other one to detect people who are just encountering the place name is "Puyallup." (The slogan and theme song for the Washington State Fair back when it was the Puyallup fair: "You can do it at a trot, you can do it at a gallop... Do the Puyallup". Pew all up.)
Oh and Sequim, pronounced "skwim". (stuff a K in the middle of "swim")
He was going to find the one-armed man
That reference is meant to be sarcastic. In the movie The Fugitive, the one-armed man actually DID do it.
I haven't followed this case only bc the audio sucks in that courtroom... in 2024!
SPOK ~ CAN!
Couldn't fleeing be interpreted as likelihood of a guilty verdict rather than consciousness of guilt? I could see an innocent person fleeing for reasons other than consciousness of guilt.
This guy seriously trying to go on vacation 😂
I would love to see you cover the trial and sentencing of Chille Decastro of DeleteLawz, did he get what was coming to him???
Donna Adelson too!
He knew he was screwed and that’s why he fled. No lawyer necessary lol
I'm sorry, you should not get bond for violent offences.
Edit: I would assume it would have to be a domestic flight. Surely they would have taken his passport, so he wouldn't be able to fly internationally.
Except for states that have no bond.
What do you think, is this evidence of consciousness of guilt, or do you think there might be more to the story?
He violated his bond in an attempt to flee the jurisdiction. I would think that everywhere that would be considered evidence of consciousness of guilt, even if there is 'more to the story'. I
To me personally (if I was a juror) it would have to be a pretty convincing reason to not draw the conclusion that he was trying to flee because he did what he was accused of. It would be one more puzzle piece in overcoming reasonable doubt. Not 100%, but it would contribute.
Isn’t there the saying not to attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity? I don’t know if it applies, and I can’t imagine his lawyer ever approving of such a trip, but are we sure he just isn’t an idiot?
@@LandOfForeverSummer No it's not possible. He's in the middle of a murder trial, he has an attorney, is a law enforcement officer, made an agreement to be let out of jail, and up till this moment has no mental issues.
Plus, really it doesn't matter. He did it, and there is a penalty for doing it. He's done.
I hope defense is ready to explain because as a juror I would be very suspicious!
His defense lawyer said today that he had his ankle bracelet on still. Do u know for sure he purchased a ticket?
It’s not a good look and it don’t smell right either. His lawyer is probably ready to strangle his client
It will be interesting to see your point of view on the whole iilluminaughtii escapades and saga. I feel like it will be interesting to get your point of view.
It was shady and not very smart shady. Drive up to the Canadian border like in North Dakota and walk across the border then get a plane ticket under an assumed name for some place like Equador that doesn't cooperate with the US. Or Cuba would be a good option too from Canada.
My thoughts exactly.
I mean, he would have to have a damn good reason to be there. But I personally cannot think of anything.
Meeting someone at arrivals? But he's not supposed to be there in the first place. Someone from my hometown in England was recently convicted for murder. The day after the offence was committed he spent a lot of money on clothes and bought a one-way plane ticket to Kenya.
Some people think they're above the law. Apparently Mr. Howard is among that troop.
There's no way anyone told him this was a good idea. I wonder where he was going. Definitely looks like he was trying to evade trial and it won't do him any favours.
No your honor, I was flying to a non-extradition country for a vacation, not to avoid the rest of the trail and jail.
Spokane is pronounced Spo "can" like tin can
Oh, he was “cooked” before this! This was him taking his one desperate shot.
Go Army, Beat Navy? So you're a ring knocker from the gray fortress on the Hudson? How's the cow? How many links in the Great Chain? How many gallons in Lusk Reservoir? What's the definition of leather? ...😁
Definitely shady. Very informative.
Pronounced Spo'can'.....not Spo'cain' .......although I know its another one of those english words that don't sound like they appear.
Lotta those in Washington, lol. 'Tulalip', anyone?
Yes Yes yer right. Like Detroit. Detroit is pronounced Detoilet 🚽 cuz it is a 🚽 😂
Cop thinking they are above the law? Say it ain't so!
Crazy!!! ✝️🦓🥄
State did not prove its case. Guilty but should be found non-guilty.
Ps-he did not book a flight.
His goose is cooked. :)
yikes
BET HE FELT DUMB BEING AT THE AIRPORT 😂😂
I read some of the comments on the coverage on L&C Trials channel. Got a gist of his character, though I take comment sections with a grain of salt if I don’t watch a good portion of a video. He seems to be a piece of work for an LEO. I don’t know if he was professionally, but privately he sounds…unpleasant. Same with his son. Again, grain of salt. It does sound like the prosecution is doing a good job and that they do have the right person on trial and it wasn’t a self-deletion.
It kind of seals the deal
He did it.
It’s pronounced SpoCAN.
FYI, it is pronounced Spo-can'. Not Spo-kane'.
Yes ,yer right and Detroit is pronounced Detoilet 🚽
Spo-can (not "cane")
Not the brightest bulb. Of course it could add to his defense in that it proves he doesn't know a lot about police procedures.
Yeah that's not going to fly, he's literally a former police officer. And if I'm not mistaken he was actually a State Trooper😂😂
That's funny!
D'oh
Spokane sounds like spokan
He messed up royal 😕
Cop ~ 2 million dollar estate?
He messed up his estate 😮
Don't drop the soap!
Would love to hear your take on Trumps cases
It's pronounced Spo-can.
More like Daniel Charles Coward kkkk!
Am I the only one who is tired of people saying unalive?
📚📽️🕵️🧑🔬
Please just stop saying “Spo-cane.” It’s Spo-can.
the fact you keep pronouncing Spokane wrong is bugging me
The same thing happened to a doctor I knew, in his case it was a one-armed man.
Elizabeth Holmes could do it and she got away with it. Set a precedent.
I'll never understand the entire idea of bond. If someone's enough of a suspect to arrest them and put them on trial, there should be enough reason to keep them incarcerated until the trial is completed (and after that if actually convicted).
If there isn't enough to keep them incarcerated, there shouldn't be reason to drag them in front of a court.
Same thing with plea bargains. The entire concept is sickening and only leads to perversions of justice (both in favour and to the detriment of the defendant).
You need to learn how to pronounce Spokane!!! It is NOT “Spo cane” but “Spo can”!!!!!
As soon as I hear unalived, I know not to watch the channel.
Spokan is how it’s said. An no ane. 🫡
