Olympia man's soulful soup giveaway heals community, lifts spirits | Eric's Heroes

For a time, there in Chris Hyde's home on Bigelow Avenue in Olympia, he felt isolated. Detached somehow from everything. He uses the words "borderline depressed" to describe that time.
The world seemed dark and divided, and wintertime didn't help.
Hyde had retired from his small business. He liked to cook. He played some guitar. He had friends and roommates. But there was something wrong, a bigger lonesomeness to him that he couldn't seem to shake.
Then one day Hyde had an idea.
