Is Sarah Boone's 8th Lawyer Her Final One? | Suitcase Murder Case

  • Sarah Boone, also known as the defendant in the so-called Suitcase Murder Case, has just been appointed her eighth attorney in Florida, after her seventh appointed attorney withdrew from her representation. Could this be her final attorney, or will we see her new attorney withdraw?
    For Context:
Sarah Boone was charged for the alleged murder of her then-boyfriend, Jorge Torres, Jr. Prosecutors allege that in 2020, Boone intentionally zipped him into a suitcase to suffocate him. Boone alleges it was a game of "hide and seek" gone wrong, and that she didn't realize until the next day that Torres was still in the suitcase.

I'm a court clerk, part of my job is appointing attorneys for certain types of cases. Sometimes a client will have very specific ideas of how things should go, and they won't accept anything else. Understandably, this is probably the biggest thing that had happened in that person's life, and they expect constant availability and communication. The public defender has several other cases going at the same time and can't drop everything at the drop of a hat, and the client feels disrespected. Sometimes they have done some research and want specific types of filings that don't make sense at that point in the process, and they assume the attorney isn't interested in their case or even doesn't know what they are doing. Every new attorney delays the process, as the new counsel has to get up to speed, and that will generally frustrate the client even more and makes them harder to work with as their desperation levels rise. I wish there was more layperson education on how the legal processes work, some peoplehave very unrealistic ideas about it and it really frustrates the whole process. Also, attorneys could really do better at communicating how things work and managing client expectations.

I 100% agree with you on all of this. Public education about the legal system is incredibly poor, and that’s one of the reasons for the existence of this channel. And I’ve had those kind of clients before, but in civil litigation, and the only thing that typically quells a client like that is the billable hour. You can tell a client your rate for work in advance of a phone call, but once a client actually sees how much it costs them to rent on the phone, they typically will understand a bit better. Where that limiting factor doesn’t exist, managing the relationship can become so much more difficult.

It sounds like if you don't have money the legal system will do what they want with you. If you have money, you have a better shot at keeping your freedom. If you don't, odds are you won't. Doesn't seem fair or balanced, does it?

As a female divorce attorney with 29 years of experience, and having observed Sarah Boone's behavior, I don't see this going well for Kashman. Boone seems like the type of client that is impossible to control. If they do get to trial, Boone will testify on her own behalf (against the advice of counsel) similar to Shanda Vander Ark, with hopefully the same verdict. And yes, I know defendants are presumed innocent, but as a human being with common sense, the evidence against Sarah is extremely strong, so let's move on, give her the due process she's entitled to and see justice for the victim.

"do not think that she fully grasps how bad that phone video makes her look"
In the interrogation room, first she refused to take a look at the video(s), trying to play the part of the heartbroken lover who can't cope with the sight. Then watched some of the footage, but when questions were asked about her actions (or the lack of them), she immediately launched into the "it wasn't intentional!" line (she must have some awareness of _mens rea_ requirements for conviction on a murder charge). Her defence is basically "it was a horrible accident" -- & no one can prove that it wasn't.
Maybe one reason for (some of) her lawyers quitting is that they tried to hammer out a plea deal for (involuntary?) manslaughter, but she refused all offers because it would involve pleading guilty to something. But if she's a psychopath, then the social emotion of guilt (also shame) has no meaning for her; she tries to emulate them as long as doing so gets her out of a tight spot, but of course the formal admittance of guilt in a case like this necessarily means taking some punishment -- which she won't do. That's for the loser normies, not for a clever one like her.

It seems like at some point the choice should be to hire your own attorney or defend yourself. This game she's playing is ridiculous and is wasting a lot of time and taxpayer money for those poor public defenders trying to jump through her hoops.

And convince the jury that Jorge ended up in the suitcase because they were playing hide and seek. I think all previous attorneys were unable to find a specialist who is willing to lie on the stand about her being a victim of battered spouse syndrome, mainly due to their rap sheet of beating each other up?

I've been following this case from day 1 and like millions of people I have watched her interrogation video and read her letters. This woman very obviously thinks she's smarter than everyone else. No matter what her defence, she filmed the minutes before Jorge's death proving her guilt. I imagine she wants her defence to be "it was "unintentional" which is just stupid based on the evidence. Her lawyers ate probably trying to find SOMETHING to work with and she's not allowing it. She would be a nightmare to work with in my opinion. Let her defend herself. She obviously thinks she can do a terrific job. I really hope at the end of all this she gets a lengthy sentence. She ignored the pleas of a dying man and filmed herself doing it! It can't be any clearer.

I could accept 1, possibly 2 new attorneys. It just should
NOT be acceptable to have 8. That is the defendant running
the court. Absolutely ridiculous. Watching legal tv, it is
so evident that too many judges allow themselves to be
Manipulated. They are too weak and should be holding
Defendants more accountable, at an earlier point. I think
Overall legal system / judges actually contribute to promoting
continued bad behavior. So many defendants get away with
with so much, it’s just infuriating. I know the judges are
concerned about possible appeal issues. But they need to
    Better limits.

I agree with you about tough female lawyers. They are in a male dominated career and are trying to hold their own. I saw the same thing at the hospital with the doctors. Female docs right after MD school were sweet and wonderful. A few years down the road and they got mean. It was bizarre.

I'm not an expert, but I've played multiple games of "hide and seek" in my day.
Wouldn't hide-and-seek require 1 person to hide and the other to seek? How is "helping" another person into a "hiding" spot part of the game when they're supposed to "find" them? The math ain't mathing.
As a side note, are lawyers allowed to talk about their time with the client after the case is closed? If a lawyer doesn't believe that a client is not guilty/ ethically don't agree with defending their client (such as an accused rapist or murderer), are they required to recuse themselves from the trial?

6:27 "the lawyer has an ethical duty not to mislead the court." I find this statement actually stunning in a way considering that I have observed trial after trial and one thing is the same with each and every case I have ever watched:
Every person who testifies must "swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" EXCEPT for the DEFENSE ATTORNEYS who lie and lie and lie and then lie some more.... I have never seen a criminal case where the defense attorney did not lie in an attempt to portray their guilty client as innocent.

Hasn't Boone found a technique that could delay a trial forever, i.e., discarding attorneys? Techniques like asking them to do illegal or unethical things is one element to extend this forever. No judge would ever have the guts to make her have a trial without an attorney. Only bad thing for her is that she is in jail all this time but perhaps in better conditions than she would be if serving a murder sentence.

    • @krisspkriss
      @krisspkriss Před 2 měsíci

I think the judge can force her to either go pro se or hire someone at her own expense. That or he can perhaps use this as signs she isnt competent to stand trial and delay trial until she is. This would leave her sitting in prison until she... finds herself well enough to make nice nice with the person defending her in the case. I ain't a lawyer, so I could be wrong.

  • @privatename2648

Regarding @10:16, Judge Wooten, when allowing Sarah's 6th attorney to withdraw and assigning the 7th warned Sarah he was going to have to take a closer look at this issue with the attorneys because of the delays it causes. Sarah, in her ignorance, does not see how her actions have contributed to the delays in her trial date.
In her letter to new judge on the case dated January 19th, 2024 she blames Judge Wootin for the fact that she is still sitting in jail after four years with nothing to show for it except seven different attorneys and her "case permitted to be slathered on the global internet."
She states she had been in the process of trying to get Judge Wooten disqualified when "The Lord" strangely handled it for her. She believes that Judge Kraynick not delaying the trial further validates her stance that what will happen in the next few months could have and should have happened four years ago.
She ends later stating she "awaits the judge's overdue and very needed judicial direction, supervision and intervention," and WELCOMES him!
I imagine the above puts into context Judge Kraynick's decision and I believe "this show" is indeed going to play out over the next few months.
I would be willing to waste precious HOURS listening in on every word spoken between her and her 8th and last attorney. 😅

i hope this attorney will work for her because representing herself will surely be a ripe opportunity for appeal when she’s inevitably found guilty in that scenario, and i don’t like the thought of an overturned conviction. i want to see her get a fair shot in court, and then sit in prison for the rest of her life. that’s my honest opinion.

Is Sarah in jail or a "nice" prison? I am wondering could she be trying to delay the trial to delay going to less desirable prison? Sarah thinks she knows more than all of her attorneys. I think you are right about most female attorneys who went to law school when there weren't many women doing so. I feel this attorney will suit her better. I also feel the judge is trying everything to not have her represent herself. He knows what a nightmare that would be!

TransparentTea recently published the list of the prosecution’s witnesses. The neighbor who gave absolutely damning testimony is on the list, so Sarah is toast. According to him, Sarah and Jorge had a knock down/blow out fight on the second floor of their townhome that fateful night, followed by silence. It is believed Sarah knocked Jorge out with her son’s baseball bat and stuffed him into the suitcase during those minutes of silence. The neighbor then heard a very loud crash going from upstairs to downstairs. That was the sound of the suitcase being shoved down the stairs, explaining why it was initially upside down. Sarah then sat down and videoed the rest. She also will not be able to claim she fell asleep because phone records indicate she made a two minute call to Brian at 11:46. This trial should be very interesting. Fingers crossed it’s televised.

Thank you for this added information! It definitely is going to be an interesting trial (and also tragic, as every murder case is). She's obviously in a relationship either with someone else locked up in that jail or perhaps even more likely with a correctional officer. She is just trying to stay in that jail as long as possible, she knows she will get day for day jail credit to whatever her eventual sentence ends up being. Turns out that she is an unemployed, aggressive drunk. She was not the mother that she claimed to be. She had nothing going on in her life as she claimed. She might have been an intelligent person, but not smart at all. Narcissism keeps people from self awareness! The police interview was very telling!
