  • Hey guys! I finally got around to doing a proper video on my Longines Legend Diver, and I am just head over heels in love with it. With that said, there are a couple drawbacks with this watch that are not to be ignored, so watch the video to hear my thoughts on it all.
    I bought mine from Bloomingdales, you can too:
    www.bloomingdales.com/shop/pr...
    And here's a link to the Hodinkee Italian Calfskin strap that I've got mine on: shop.hodinkee.com/collections...

    Great review. I realllly wish I knew about the Bloomingdale’s deal. That’s an amazing price. I currently want the one on mesh but for the price I would have hopped on this one. Enjoy it!

      Hi there! I know - I wish there was an easier way for me to share deals and what not with you guys. Maybe I’ll start doing a quick 2 minute video when I see a deal like that around. That aside, like I said in the video, the high end department stores are constantly doing sales these days so keep an eye out on Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s specifically. Bloomingdale’s was just doing 30% off $400 or more. I’d recommend signing up for emails from them too so you’ll always be notified when sales like that happens. You can also buy the mesh separately for about $200 from Longines as well if you get the sailcloth I believe. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!!!

    May be I missed it in the video, but could you let me know whether this Longines' case is 36 or 42mm?

    Can't believe this review has been out seven months and I didn't see it until tonight! I remember you were returning an Oris or something and buying this one instead. So glad you ended up loving it so much! Terrific, slick review. Well done!
    I was concerned about the size. Since we have about the same size wrist, you've given me confidence I could pull this off. And I take a microfiber towel to every watch I wear several times a day, so no problem there. Awesome strap choice as well. Thank you for sharing!!

      Maybe you were returning a Hydroconquest at the time? Whatever it was, I think you made a great choice on this one!

      @Matthew Davis Hahaha! I hear ya, I think sometimes CZcams doesn’t notify you even if you’re subscribed. It’s strange. But in any case, yes I was returning a Hydroconquest (which I was actually just thinking about again before I saw your comment). As for the size of the Legend, ABSOLUTELY wearable for someone of our wrist size and especially on a soft leather strap. It’s lighter (the case) than I expected too which makes it way less of a burden to wear.

      @@joshswatches my original comment mentioned my present lust for the Captain Cook, but I decided to edit that out because I later read in other comments that you weren't a fan. Honestly what brought me to the Captain Cook was Breitling's limited edition Super Ocean Heritage '57 with the rainbow colors. What a gorgeous watch (now selling for crazy, crazy money)! I loved the way the bezel sloped inward toward the crystal. So I've had a thing for the Rado ever since! I recently purchased a Glashutte Original PanoMaticLunar with the green dial (I am in love with it), so green is out for me. Have you seen the new burgundy red dial Rado in the bronze case? If they ever offer that in steel with the beads of rice bracelet I would be all over it!! In the meantime when I venture into the dive watch world again, your Longines is top of my list! Right now my SBGJ235 is the star of my show. Obviously I don't need to spend anymore money on watches for a while, but an "affordable" dive watch is on my short list. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! You are awesome!!

      @@matthewdavis8199 Hahahaha!!! I knew I saw mention of a Captain Cook!!! And I edited my response out because I was like huh he’s going to think I’m stupid. 🤣🤣🤣. I actually didn’t dislike it so much as I think that it’s overpriced at retail.
      I agree 100% on the rainbow marking Breitling Super Ocean. I died when that came out, and should have bought one when I could have!!!
      Meanwhile, on the affordable diver side, I definitely would go Legend, Oris, and for a bit more even Tudor. Since you mentioned the Captain Cook in Bronze, my response to that would be I’d spend another $2K and do a Tudor in bronze instead, I think. They’re absolutely gorgeous.
      And congrats on the Glashutte!!! That’s a fabulous watch and so special in green. Cheers!!!!

    Josh,
    I love your videos and I think your content is superb.
    I like and trust your style.
    Do you think this watch or a Rado new original Diastar or Captain cook? I can get a legend diver for 1500 on the mesh.

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 3 lety +1

      DBS ll Hey there! Thanks for the wonderful compliments. Personqlly, I would go with the Longines. I’m not a huge fan of the Captain Cook I have to say. That’s another one that I think at retail is overpriced at $2K. It’s a great watch but the Legend to me just has more prestige and heritage. It goes with far more strap options too (new or vintage leather in any color, metal mesh, etc.)
      THAT SAID, if the Longines is too large for your tastes, I do really like and recommend the Original Captain Cook reissue (36mm if I’m not mistaken) for those who prefer smaller cases.
      Hope this helps, Cheers!!

      Josh,
      Quick question. Do you see any brown hues in this black dial?
      All of the Seikos I have owned had an annoying brown hue in certain lights. I plan on getting this watch on the mesh.

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 3 lety

      Hello! Apologies, I didn’t see this comment until just now for some reason! I know exactly what you mean about Seikos and NO brown hues here, this is super dark, fully opaque black glass on the dial and likewise some really nicely polished gloss finish on the interior bezel. :)

  • @jpizz88
    @jpizz88 Před 3 lety +2

    It’s a beautiful watch, I prefer the all black version myself. Random question, but do you remember the lug width of the Hydroconquest you had before?

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 3 lety

      jpizz88 I love it as well, I just worry about the finish wearing off over time as it’s not ceramic but just coated. And yes! It’s unfortunately 21mm like the new Seastar. Cheers!

    • @jpizz88
      @jpizz88 Před 3 lety +1

      Josh James Thanks for the reply! I hear you about the finish, I love the look of black watches but have avoided them for the reason you stated. 21mm, ugh... I truly don’t understand why manufacturers do that, the extra 1mm is not going to throw off the aesthetics that much. You had the 41mm version? I’m between the 39mm and the 41mm. I’ve heard the 39mm also has an odd lug width of 19mm.

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 3 lety

      jpizz88 Hi! Of course! And I agree I don’t either, that was one reason I ended up returning mine. So yes I had the 2018 Ceramic version and if you’re okay with the 41mm size, I would HIGHLY recommend going with the new ceramic one if you can, or if you can visit a jeweler and see both side by side. To me the newer model and 41mm size is worth the extra price.

      @jpizz88 Před 3 lety

    Hey Josh, great review. Are we sure the lug width is 21mm? Tim Mosso on the Watchbox states it's 22mm.

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 3 lety

      Hey there! Don’t think I said it’s got 21mm lugs (I might have said that this is unlike the Seastar and Hydroconquest both of which I’ve had but didn’t care for are 21mm), and I know it isn’t because it’s wearing a Hodinkee 22mm strap in the video. This is most definitely a 22mm lug width.

    • @alectang1614
      @alectang1614 Před 3 lety

      @@joshswatches thanks for the reply. No, you didn't mention it in the video but you replied below to a previous comment (jpizz88). Nevertheless, I just wanted confirmation, so it is 22mm. I'm thinking of adding one sometime this year and I can get a pretty good discount off it here in Hong Kong.
      Do you also happen to know if yours has the updated movement with 6phours power reserve? I know Longines updated the legend diver recently. Thanks.

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 3 lety

      @@alectang1614 Ah I see, if you read the original comment left by the viewer, he asks if I remember what the lug width was on my Hydroconquest, that’s a different watch than this.
      I have mixed feelings on the new movement. Like many of Swatch’s newer, longer-reserve movements, they dropped the beat rate to conserve energy, which is great, but the seconds hand doesn’t sweep as nicely in the L888 cal (had that in my Hydroconquest). Not a big deal and I think the new movement is great, just my personal opinion.

      @@joshswatches oh you're right. I completely missed that it was about the Hydro-conquest.

    You just helped me make my mind on this watch - not to buy it. I think ppl with channels who sell watches cannot be trusted as ppl who just talk about watches out of love. Don't get me wrong, I like the watch, but I was struggling with how blingy the strap was and how pricy. Now, you made it easy to walk away from it without much trouble.

    Thanks Josh, Great review. I also ordered one from Bloomingdale's at that crazy discount, couldn't resist that price after months of searching. Glad to see you received the watch you ordered from them. I received the Longines VHP Quartz in PVD and have yet to see my refund from them, it's been over a month. I just ordered again from Prestige Time and I'm hoping to finally get the Legend Diver that I've been waiting for. Thanks again for the review, it was very informative.

      Hi! That’s really strange that you didn’t get what you ordered, I’ve never had that specifically happen from Bloomingdale’s. Definitely give them a call and I’m sure they can get that straightened out for you. In my experience their customer service is excellent. And I’m glad you found the Legend elsewhere as well, cheers!
