    I have the one with date and I really love it.. actually it made a friend of mine who wears a Patek Philippe aquanaut ask me about it :D he also recommended it to another friend!! Now, about the lugs, we all know that this watch was designed in the 60s and at that time divers needed little space between the strap and the case to suit different & thicker diving straps. The great thing is that Longines kept it in the reproduced pieces .. So in my humble opinion it's an up side point of the watch to make me feel the need of the divers in the 60's. in all situations the watch is unbelievably comfortable and elegant in a reasonable price and huge remarkable watch box 😄

    People complain about the size of the watch but they stayed true to the original. Basically, in an era where larger watches are acceptable, you people are complaining about something that is historically accurate and innovative.

    the only divers in my collection are compressor style divers. i had a legend diver with date from 2016-2019 and now i have a ball engineer master ii gmt diver in my collection. i love the inner rotating bezel style so much. it just feels so satisfying seeing every functionality of the wathc housed under the crystal, rather than outside of it.

    Hello TGV,
    I'm really loving the new Longines offerings. Longines seems to be 3 companies; 1. the well respected 20th century brand , 2. the easy to overlook 1990s-mid 2000s watches, and 3. the renaissance of a great watch brand of today.
    My question is, where is Longines positioned?

    • @soundersiren07
      @soundersiren07 Před 7 lety +1

      Unfortunately in a really crowded place! Below Omega but well above Tissot/Mido/Certina/Union Glashütte in the Swatch hierarchy. Oris and Baume & Mercier and probably Mühle Glashütte would be their most direct competition. Longines offers the most bang for buck in that sector, the the case finishing of B&M is better. The negative side is as great value their Master Collection and Heritage pieces are, they have a lot of pedestrian quartz watches. I don't have anything against quartz but the watches themselves look uninspired and generic.
      I'm debating right now between this and the Oris 65. I have a great sporty dress watch with my Omega but want something that works better in the woods, on my surfboard and on the slopes.

  • @TruckeeDoggo
    @TruckeeDoggo Před 7 lety +2

    I owned this watch, loved it, but it didn't fit my wrist, so I flipped it for an Oris 65 Diver. The Legend Diver is a 42mm but because of those gigantic lugs, it wears more like a 44-45mm. I have a 42mm Planet Ocean, and the Legend Diver looks absolutely huge next to it.
    If Longines knocked the case down to 40mm and shortened those lugs, they'd have a blockbuster product.
    TGV, you're right, it's an Elabore grade ETA 2824-2. Longines unfortunately doesn't get Top or Chrono grade calibers for their watches. :(

  • @funwithturtles6844
    @funwithturtles6844 Před 7 lety +1

    Imagine, in the sixties and Longines built a diver with two crowns. It was definitely a challange to guarantee high water resistance with two holes in the watch case. Amazing! I wish they would try adding color to the inner bezel - in that case, the watch would easy jump on my "watch list".

    I have the date version of this watch and while I really ‘like’ it, I’ll never love it - the date window annoys me when I see the no date version. There was no need to make this addition to a watch that in all other ways is so faithful to the original. The dial on the no date is gorgeous.

    Longines, is my favorite watch brand. I own seven different Longines watches in my collection. As an avid Scuba Diver, I own a Longines HydroConquest Dive Watch which I love. I do not own a Longines Legend Diver watch at this time. I do love the design, however as an environmental Scuba Diver, ocean explorer, and as a scientist concerned about the environment and overfishing of our oceans, I would like to see Longines make a redesign change on the elegant Diver image on the caseback of the watch. I would like to see the harpoon removed from the diver’s hands and/or a new design of a more environmentally friendly diver on the caseback. So the diver does not appear to enter the ocean as a hunter, ready to hunt and kill aquatic life, but to appear as a diver entering the underwater world to explore the beauty of the natural environment and be respectful of all the fish living in their natural habitat. I have previously written Longines’s management and product development leader with this suggestion , even provided sketches as examples of a potential redesign of an environmentally-friendly looking diver. But, have never heard back. I love Longines, and as a Scuba Diver and ocean environmentalist, I hope one day Longines would consider my suggestion. I believe it would give the Longines Legend Diver watch a new and attractive look, and at the same time position Longines as a Dive Watch company concerned about the preservation of natural aquatic life in our oceans and waters of our planet.

    That is a nice looking watch for a diver. Faux patina is a blaah, if you think it that way, but you can just think it is beige color chosen for the numbers, which looks really good. It's not like the lume is artificially aged, it's just an ink color. In 60 years the lume blips will be the same color.

    Hi TGV
    Very fine achievement from Longines there, slightly updating a classic dive watch. This seems to become a new trend - I assume it was started by Omega.
    Like the inner rotating bezel and the check pattern design. Unfortunately the watch would be a bit too big for me too because of prolonged horns. I own a Seamaster 300, and that's the absolute maximum size for me. The Omega is 4 mm shorter - a few mm can make a very significant difference...

    I have long admired this watch. The bidirectional bezel put me off for a long time, but I didn't realise it was lockable. The no date version is always going to be the winner here. I do wonder how easy the bezel crown is to manipulate using thick diving gloves? Almost impossible I should think. That makes it a bit of a deal breaker for an actual diving watch here in blighty.

    Great choice for the intro music. Dead man, Neil Young.
    You're collecting good points in my book 🍺

    I'm a big fan of "Dead Man". Great soundtrack!
    I just received a NATO strap from Wrist Candy.... so so so much more comfortable than the stock strap that was on my Laco DC-3. Thanks for the recommendation!
    Keep up the great work!

    Regarding the long lugs its an easy fix. I hated the original strap when worn exposed the lugs. The key is finding a strap that's 3.5mm in thickness and I found it with watch geckos vintage italian leather strap in the light brown and it changed the look and feel of the watch completely, and it removed the gap seen 10:54. It also gave it a more vintage look and feel compared to the oem strap, and the light brown has aged nicely over the year. Plan on getting worn and wounds vintage peanut down the line either for the speedy or the ld.

    Thanks for the review. Great!
    Can you tell me of the Longines Acciaio bracelet, that also is available with this watch, has srews or pushpins to lengthen or shorten it?
    Thanks.

    I wonder if this watch is actually cased with the Super Compressor technologies, or it is just made to resemble the look of the iconic design.

    As an added bonus with this watch you get a box big enough to use as a garden shed!

    the lug width is 23mm the strap should have a mm spacing unless u don't ever want to remove it

    I agree. The lug to lug distance is too big. I tried the watch at the Longines shop in Paris today and it is uneasy to wear despite the bezel itself not being that big. Is that a diving requirement to have such long lugs???

    great watch, but still prefer the Oris Divers 65 in blue. You should get a copy to try out, sure you would love it.

    Killer music from The Legendary Niel Young featured on an Old Unkniwn Johnny Deep movie with a ton of Big Hollywood swaggarts. Robert Mitchem, what a badass movie. One of my Favs. Forget the watch.

    Hi TGV,
    Very nice example of a vintage inspired watch that give you the look of the old one but with a modern movement and other components. If there would a be version with a 6 o'clock date, I would consider the watch for myself.
    Best regards,
    Claus

    Great intro music, William Blake! :) I think it's a real shame Longines insists on making only the Date model of this watch. How many people of the "no date" subspecies of watch geek would buy this if they made BOTH options available? Not like it would cost Longines a fortune to offer the option. :(

    i don't understand why Longines has discontinued the no date legend diver. I think they realise most of them like the no date version more than the date version, so why they have stopped the production?

  • @junjonathan5847

    Eventhough longines has more snobbery and higher brand image IMO, I still prefer the Alpina seastrong heritage diver. It also has a super compressor style case. The white dial one looks stunning!

    man that intro is so incredible! are those single coil pickups with reverb, a little grit for overdrive and some delay? badassery in sound!!!....never thought that would work so well with the amazing visuals.

    Have the date version and I love just how it screams mid century, and it looks just as good next to my eames lounge chair. Between my speedmaster pro I tend to wear this watch more often during the week. Don't let this watch fool you, its of extreme quality when held and worn especially against other watches it gets compared to. The oris 65 doesn't look, feel or wear like the legends diver, the one that comes the closest in feel not so much in look is the black bay. Also just saw the new heuer autavia 42mm chrono yesterday and I was surprised based on the size and height that my LD was heavier. The face and registers was beautiful on the heuer autavia but everything else felt a little cheap from the bezel, pushers, strap, and didn't befit a $5k watch. The LD that I wore that was half the price felt more like a $5k watch in my hands and on the wrist.
    Regarding the long lugs it was an easy fix. I hated the original strap when worn exposed the lugs. The key is finding a strap that's 3.5mm in thickness and I found it with watch geckos vintage italian leather strap in the light brown and it changed the look and feel of the watch completely. I must say the Oris feels positively cheap when handling but the rubber strap does at least offer amazing comfort levels. Of the two the Legend Diver is the more versatile piece. Any Nato or canvas, suit , jeans or beachwear, it looks cool with anything.

    Great video as always but not a big fan of this watch - the dial is much too busy - always thought the dial (with some changes) would suit a pilots watch more.
