These days, the market is flooded with "heritage reissue" and "vintage-inspired" watches, but it wasn't always this way. The Longines Legend Diver has been around since 2007 and is still one of the most attractive heritage dive watches on the market. In this video, we'll do a complete review of the Longines Legend Diver Date to see how it stacks up in the now-crowded retro dive watch space.

This watch is absolutely beautiful. IMO its the best vintage inspired dive watch you can get, I even prefer it to the Black Bay (which I own). Longines, is my favorite watch brand. I own seven different Longines watches in my collection. As an avid Scuba Diver, I own a Longines HydroConquest Dive Watch which I love. I do not own a Longines Legend Diver watch at this time. I do love the design, however as an environmental Scuba Diver, ocean explorer, and as a scientist concerned about the environment and overfishing of our oceans, I would like to see Longines make a redesign change on the elegant Diver image on the caseback of the watch. I would like to see the harpoon removed from the diver’s hands and/or a new design of a more environmentally friendly diver on the caseback. So the diver does not appear to enter the ocean as a hunter, ready to hunt and kill aquatic life, but to appear as a diver entering the underwater world to explore the beauty of the natural environment and be respectful of all the fish living in their natural habitat. I have previously written Longines’s management and product development leader with this suggestion , even provided sketches as examples of a potential redesign of an environmentally-friendly looking diver. But, have never heard back. I love Longines, and as a Scuba Diver and ocean environmentalist, I hope one day Longines would consider my suggestion. I believe it would give the Longines Legend Diver watch a new and attractive look, and at the same time position Longines as a Dive Watch company concerned about the preservation of natural aquatic life in our oceans and waters of our planet. I would be happy to talk with someone from the company to further explain and discuss this topic. I have some thoughts to share regarding this.

I own the 42 with the mesh strap and absolutely love it. BUT. I bought it one month ago brand new from the boutique in NYC, and it stopped working last week. I had been winding it every morning, wearing it everyday, and taking very good care of it (no drops or impact damage) - even the folks at the boutique couldn't figure out what happened. I had to send it in for warranty service (6 week wait time) I am hoping it was just an unlucky fluke, but it did shake my confidence in the brand.

The LLD is one of the most gorgeous vintage inspired/reissue pieces ever made. But the watch is ruined by those gigantic lugs, which make this watch wear like a 44mm (which is why I ended up having to sell mine). Longines would sell truckloads of these if they brought down the case size and shortened those ridiculous lugs. The 36mm model is not an alternative; it wears too small and uses the terrible ETA2000 movement

I bought it with the bracelet and I have pretty hairy arms and so far my hairs are intact hehe. The bracelet is super comfortable, it ajusts perfectly to the wrist and, in the case of this 36mm model, the watch feels light!
I was not sure if I would buy the 42 or the 36 and I can tell that I am very happy that I have chosen the 36 version, it wears like a 38 and the lugs don't over hang. Maybe it's an age thing. 😃 The whole hankering back thing has been going on for much longer. Longines were producing vintage reissues in the 90's. Various Longines Weems/Lindbergh and various iterations of Trench watches too. They weren't the only ones, but they were among the first. Rolex would be an exception, though mainly because they've barely changed their designs in the last 50 plus years.

Such a great watch just wish the size was between 39-40 mm. Longines is making fantastic re editions , however they need to get the size right .

Pretty sure a BOR bracelet will go well with this watch as well. Vintage FTW!

I don't understand how people wear 36mm watches. 40 mm looks like a dot on my wrist.

The median male wrist size is around 18.4cm with SD of 1.7cm. A 36mm would fit nicely on a wrist ranging from 14.6cm up to 18.4 (look for the many reviews of Tudor BB36 or OP36), which covers 50% of male consumers. After all, watches are like clothes, there’s no one-fit-for-all

I love this longings and I think it's one of the best looking divers out there, but there is 2 things that bother me, there is no middle ground when it comes to size, It would be perfect if they made a 38mm version, and second why I cannot get the mesh bracelet with different dial color than Black lacquered polished and White mother-of-pearl.

I am not sure if the 36 mm version is ok for a 14,5 cm (5,7 inch) wrist. Maybe the lug to lug dimensions would help to imagine how it would look.

The speck issue is worth noting. This watch is known for the not at all remote possibility of getting specks of dust inside ... on top of a black dial (!) and inside a diver no less!
I was but another victim, with only a couple of weeks of wear. Thankfully, longines customer service is top notch, and they cleaned it out, assuring me it wouldn’t happen again. Hopefully it doesn’t.

Can I operate this internal bezel under water?

  • @newsnowadirondacksredux360

I have seeing a 42 for $1,600. I have large hands and wrists so it might be a great deal for me. Maybe the 42 isn’t selling as fast as the 36.

The original did not have a date complication (its a diver after all). So, why did Longines decide to ruin this otherwise gorgeous dial with a date window?? Were it not for that defect I would certainly buy one.

Yes I thought so as well. I am still glad though for a hand wind Chrono. Not a lot of them out there and are even thicker (think Sinn automatics) and I already have a Speedmaster which is the gold standard in my mind.
