  • I decided not to wait for my rotor/stator to become a grenade inside my 2012 Yamaha FZ1. I have about 13k miles, and no signs of any issues. I bought my FZ1 in 2014, so the updated Yamaha OEM rotor that came out on the 2015 FZ1 had not been interfaced or available for purchase yet, so I knew my FZ1 was a ticking time bomb. These FZ1's can do 80k+ miles, why ruin it over something this trivial? Maybe you're scared to do the job yourself.
    *Did you know the 2011-2013 FZ8 and 2004-2008 R1 are also affected?
    Here's the thing:
    1. It's technically not a very technical job, it may sound scary, but my video shows everything you need to do the job.
    2. If you already got sticker shock over the OEM Yamaha rotor rebuild at $639 MSRP, you may have walked away without realizing an aftermarket company called RMStator has a replacement for only $199. Honestly, I'd rather give RMStator my money because they solved an issue anyone would have on an FZ1 of overpaying Yamaha for something that Yamaha should have done a recall on for us in the 1st place. Yamaha doesn't deserve my rotor money!
    3. And last but not least, if you caught my posts on the FB FZ1 groups, Amazon has a deal still going on as of 4/9/22 that you can get $40 off, plus am additional 15% off if you buy more than 1 part at the same time from RMStator. You're going to need to buy 2 parts; the rotor and the replacement gasket, cause that gasket isn't going to be reusable! So now you can get both the replacement rotor and the gasket to do this job for...wait for it...$148.54 including tax! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
    Follow my step by step video tutorial and you can keep your FZ1 from becoming a boat anchor by replacing your rotor before time runs out...KABOOM!
    I recommend this product.
    Amazon RMStator Rotor plus Gasket kit:
    www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08L5G...
    *If you have any issues getting the discount, try adding the rotor and gasket to your cart separately.
    *For anyone in the UK, there have been some issues with buyers trying to make the purchase and Amazon says it's not available to ship, there is apparently a button you can click on the order page to change it to calculate shipping to the UK.
    *For anyone in Australia, I've not been told of a way to make the Amazon order work for you, but maybe it would be best to contact Amazon and ask them.

    Just did the change a few days ago from RMSTATOR. My gasket is leaking very small amount, so I may need to buy a OEM gasket time will tell.

    • @bigduphusaj162
      @bigduphusaj162 Před 3 měsíci

      it will be leaking at the cable grommet likely? Theres actualy some black RTV paste in there and people refit them after ripping the samwich grommet out without repasting. It only needs a little and you put it in the grommet sides and fill it like a samwich then you smear some in the case bit that comes of the engine. If you pop it out and look inside you see a recess cut, yeah that needs it smeared in there too only a little.

    • @crazycrookerr
      @crazycrookerr Před 3 měsíci

      It stopped leaking about 5 days after install, and hasnt leaked since. when I say "leak" It was really just sweating tiny tiny tiny amount of oil on edge of the case where the new gasket was.

    • @bigduphusaj162
      @bigduphusaj162 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@crazycrookerryesh the rubber grommet has found its natural sealing position after a few heat cycles by the sounds of it. Its nearly always that grommet causing leaks on them it even gives the false "seapage from gasket" look to it as any oil that gets squished or leaks out that samwich grommet finds its way right around the gasket perimeter of the case real quick. From factory they are smeared lightly with black RTV paste and i mean Lightly, its hard to even tell they have.

    • @bigduphusaj162
      @bigduphusaj162 Před 3 měsíci +2

      you need to damage the stator with the magnets or they last forever. The only known issue they ever get bar that is pinched wiring on refits or they have got water in the connector as its been hit or damaged. If the bike charged fine when you take it apart and you are only doing this out of precaution then you Dont need a new Stator at all mate.

      @@liviu9181 swapping Rotors behind customers backs by a shop is absolutely desperado grade stuff and just doesnt make financial sense. I own a garage here in Scotland and know of some dodgy places that overbill for parts that they dont fit if its a car they own and fancy the new part themselves or if they struggling for work that week they think its ok to rince last weeks customers by claiming more work needs done than what is necessary. Removing upgraded parts from a bike though is not in there repertoire as they dont want caught for a start. A surefire way to get caught would be to remove a part that the customer had already payed someone to upgrade it in the past. They would need to be a special kind of stupid to do that given the other well known methods of rincing customers with no way there is any comeback for them other than you leaving a bad review after taking it for a second opinion and the second guy tells you it doesnt need all that work. That story they told you in balance id say its likely 1% true at most mate thats an honest opinion from a legit bike & marine mech

      @mobley Mobley I've chatted with an RMStator engineer at their Canada shop. He actually responded to my install video too. It looks like it's all based put of Canada. That doesn't mean they don't have a shop in China actually mill them although it seemed from my interaction that they were made in Canada. Proofing the specs would be done at the Canada shop typically, if that's their warehouse. What I have witnessed is customer's buying them from resellers who have had a previous customer return the item damaged and the reseller puts it back on the shelf for inventory and it was sold to another person. That customer hen goes all over the internet and talks about how horrible RMStator is and not the reseller that sold them a used rotor. It's unethical but a lot of resellers do it.
