    Firstly, thank you for this "how to" video. I live in Canada and have a 2007 R1, I decided to proactively change the rotor even though mine looked fine at 22k. I didn't see the need to replace the stator so just did the rotor. I had 3 options, $950.Cnd for OEM, or $250 for the RM or Kimpex (China Made) replacement. I called RM Stator first but they were unfortunately resistant to answer my questions, I found their customer service poor. I ordered a Kimpex brand one which looked exactly the same as RM Stator's. The rotor looked decent but had improper machine tolerances, the spacer didn't fit over the shaft - some people apparently sand it down but I didn't feel comfortable doing this, nor should you need to if machined properly. Additionally, it fit too loosely when seated in the bearing. Returned for OEM. BTW the OEM has updated this part and it does look slightly different than these Chinese knock offs. In a high HP, high RPM engine, I'd buy Japan made OEM... just my opinion. Good luck & stay safe!

    So happy I swapped out my generator on my ‘07 FZ1 at 22k. Saw and heard too many horror stories.

    Also my chain just snapped on my bike a few days ago. What size chain do you use. The bike I purchased came with a 47 tooth in the rear 16 tooth sprocket in the front and they 520 122 link d.i.d chain. From what I gathered online the bike actually comes with a 530 chain so I'm wondering do I have to go back to that chain I'm new to this FZ1 I'm still learning and nobody's talking about what chain they have on the bike everyone has went to a 520 conversion kit but it's for racing and they say is not good for two-up riding

      Yes i would mate. I have heard so many stories about them and Yamaha didn't improve the rotor till 2015 . but i have two FZ1s and both rotors failed one at 56000km and the last one went at just over 11000km. so my experience is not a matter of if it will fail but when.

    Thanks for you video! Did you hear any rattling noises? My FZ has 28k km, I also went for a ride and the engine died and my battery dried up. I recharged the battery and it seemed the bike was back on track, but I test drive it and soon the engine died again. I recharged the battery again and started up the engine, but this time a rattling noise started . I Turned off the engine . I suspect the rotor failed.

    Thanks for the video, first I've seen that shows the damage caused when the magnets break free from the rotor. You're probably lucky none of the magnets didn't end up in the rest of the engine - were they all stuck to the stator? I've got a 08 FZ1s, 60k km, you've tipped me into checking and replacing the rotor if necessary ASAP, not comfortable having that potential hand grenade spinning around in there 😅

    • @photographyrides7913
      @photographyrides7913  Před rokem +2

      Yeah mate it's a good idea to replace it it's happened to me twice the 1st time on my 2006 FZ1 at 63k. The 2ed my 2008 at 23k so in my experiences it's not it could happen but when it will 👍

      @@photographyrides7913 as luck would have it, the very next ride after my last comment the bike shat itself on the freeway, check engine light came on (error code 46), then headlights cut out and I pulled over. After having to transport it back home checked my generator rotor and it was a magnet soup like yours. Check and replace the rotor people, don't end up stranded like me!

    Would You recommend a change on a FZ1 Fazer 2012? Or is this problem only for the early models of the FZ1?

    • @photographyrides7913
      @photographyrides7913  Před 3 lety +3

      yes mate its not worth the risk on how much damage it can do.9000 km or 90000 km its not a matter of if it will happen but when!. and The result of this malfunction is without any warning sign, destroying in most cases both the stator and the rotor. Yamaha, dealt with the problem by making a new and improved rotor in 2014
